Our first visit was today. The best part was the food - I liked both the Chicken Corn Taco and Chicken Wrap (served with smokey BBQ sauce). The taste was great for both of them and both were served with generous portions of cheese. The chips were good, but the guacamole was average at best to my taste.Beyond the food, be prepared for an average fast-food experience with no table service. You wait in line to place your order at the counter, then wait for your number to be called and pick up your food at the counter. Have been eating the original fried taco for years, the best taco in town. Had a long line at lunch today but it moved quickly, employee was hustling in the dining room clearing tables.

Quick, tasty, and inexpensive is the way I like to describe Tasty Tacos. I like it much better than chain Mexican restaurants when in DesMoines.

If you havent tried tasty Taco you should give it a try its good stuff

If youve never been here, skip all sides and get two original flour tacos. The original shells are fluffy and lightly fried. Dont get the steak or pork, just get the original. Even if you dont use hot sauce, you must try it on the tacos. Sometimes it can be spicy, but never too spicy. If youre really hungry get extra meat, its worth it. Once youve done that first, you can move on to the other stuff on your next visit. Tasty tator supreme con queso is a good choice to switch it up or even a pork or bean enchilada. I have eaten here every other week for 8 years and its always consistently tasty at this location when we go on Saturday afternoons. Pictured is a double meat original taco, well worth the extra dollar for extra meat. Hint at ordering, if you want your tacos in separate trays(which you do), say the term One and One right after you order the tacos. This prevents a multi taco order being squeezed into 1 tray. They end up fuller and not squashed.

I have been eating tasty tacos since the 90s and still love them to this day.

So delicious. Definitely not traditional, but the way they fry their flower tortillas is delicious. One of the best splurges in town while also being easy on the wallet.

I go back many years with Tasty Tacos probably more than 50 years. The food is excellent normally and for me the service is always great....here comes the but lately the amount of meat and cheese put in the original has been at best skimpy. I had two original flour tacos and the dog got half because the meat was almost invisible along with the cheese, lettuce and even very few beans. It was very poor today, but I have had bad days too, just hope this isnt a pattern hate to see the small business die as so many have in this past year.

Do yourself a favor next time youre in the Des Moines area and are considering Taco Bell...just find a Tasty Tacos.Inexpensive, and miles better. Big chain restaurants dont have anything on this place.

I will never return to this location...Ive been eating at Tasty Tacos since the 1980s. I have eaten at this location for many years and have experienced great food and great service.On a Saturday evening in July, I went to this location and the OPEN sign was on. It was 7pm but the door was locked and the girls behind the counter did not indicate the location was open. I went to the Ankeny location and enjoyed some tacos.Once in a while Ive stopped into this location around 9:15pm to 9:30pm in the evening. Most of these visits I experienced the same great service and food. However, last night when I stopped in at 9:30pm we were asked if the meal was to go by the person at the register. I asked if we could eat in and that we would be gone by 10pm, which is listed as the closing time on the door. The person behind the counter was clearly irritated.The team was doing their nightly cleaning which I totally expected. My husband and I tried to hurry and be gone by 10pm so they could close. Upon leaving I discovered the floor was wet by the exit door and slipped and fell. There was not a sign stating the floor was wet.I think this location may need some customer service and safety training. The food was as I expected but the service was terrible and I would urge anyone to be careful if you are looking for a taco later in the evening. I would try a different location.

This is not your ordinary taco! The soft tortilla, seasoned meat, and generous cheese make it amazingly delicious. House taco sauce makes it as hot as you please. Lots of other options too, but Im stuck on the taco after 12 years. Dont worry if the line seems long during the lunch rush. They crank out the orders quick enough to get you back to work on time.

Actually, I wish the hot sauce was not quite so hot so I could use more of it, the taste is really good. Its not just hot.The absolute best Spanish rice in town. Try it and tell me if youve ever had better (then tell me where it was so I can try it!)If youve never eaten there, try the Original Soft Shell and a side of Spanish rice. That will start you off right. Hard to eat 2 soft shells, nearly impossible to eat 3. So try one, and get one more if you are still hungry.Worth exiting the Interstate for!!!

Place was empty. Placed my order. The cashier was in a hurry. Then they got busy. About ten people followed me and left with their food. Waited patiently for 30 minutes. Left with no food. Got my money back. Was cashiers fault. She threw my order ticket out.

Coworkers raved about trying this local taco chain and eventually I caved in and went to lunch at this location. I sampled a chicken enchilada, cheese fries, pork flour taco and soda for $11.34. The chicken enchilada was the best part of the meal. The cheese fries were frozen and then some nacho cheese from can on top, really? Lastly the pork meat was not season well and had too much cheese. My coworker said the steak enchilada was good, so if we ever go back I will stick to the enchiladas. People giving this a 5 stars, makes me wonder if they have ever left the city. Would have given it poor, but I have had worse in San Antonio, TX. Not trying to sound negative, but taco johns tastes better to me. Thank for reading.

Stopped by for 2 flour tacos and some flour tortilla chips with cheese. Both were very good. The tacos were way better than Taco Johns or Taco Bells. In my opinion this is a step up from them, but maybe not quite as good as a good sit down Mexican restaurant.

The original tasty taco is fantastic and served in a deep fried flour shell. The hard shell corn tacos hit the spot as well. You can tell the salsa is fresh and they give you a lot of it! We will visit here any time we are in town.

When I go, I avoid the Chicago-KC Expressway on the way there and travel through Des Moines instead just to stop at Tasty Tacos! First time I was disappointed. Apparently if you go at 9pm when they close at 10 you get pre- made warmed up tacos. Sad. Just lost a loyal customer. After 7 months no response. Tells you a lot about them.

Had to try it, its not every day we are in Des Moines. With that being said I thought the flour taco shell was great but otherwise the original taco was rather bland. The only savior was the delicious salsa to throw on top. Maybe just smother everything in that and I would give it 4 stars.

I am extremely disappointed! This is my first time to this location and it is NOTHING like the other locations that I’ve been to. Very skimpy with their ingredients. I ordered three original flour tacos and one steak flour taco. They each had hardly any toppings on my flour shell and they had given me an extremely small container of hot sauce that didn’t even cover two of the tacos. Just not the experience that I’m used to with other Tasty Taco locations. Very disappointed!!

Who doesnt love tasty tacos? A Des Moines must-have, the original flour tortillas are an incredible bargain and the salsa they put at each table seals the deal. Tasty tacos has expanded quite a bit in the past years, opening new locations, and with good reason (Iowans cant get enough). Ill be back soon for a taco or two!
