Competent and quality repair work..Honesty and integrity.. only did work required.. didnt run up bill!!Getting return business from me!!
I love to support small local businesses, but my experience with Beaver Mower has been poor. I took my small mower in for a yearly tune-up which ended up taking nearly a month. I had to borrow my neighbors mower twice to keep the lawn from turning into a jungle. They originally quoted me $80 for a tune-up and it ended up costing over $140 because of some vague extras and they never called to approve any extra charges. One of the line items included cleaning and the mower came back in the same condition I dropped it off in. That was frustrating enough, but now the mower has broken down after 2 hours of normal use. I wish we had just spent the money on a new mower, unfortunately. I would look elsewhere to have your mower serviced.
PSA PLEASE READ AND SHARE: DO NOT EVER take anything to Beaver Mower in Des Moines, IA. We dropped of a newer pressure washer on 04-02-21. It needed one small part. We were to get it back within a week. They then claimed their pressure washer mechanic had quit. We called again 2 weeks later. No return call. Multiple calls made in the next several days, no return calls. John went in on 04-27. They COULD NOT EVEN FIND our pressure washer or paperwork. They then wrote up a new receipt and said they would get to it when they had a new mechanic. More unanswered calls in the next week. I called today and they said it still wasnt done because of no mechanic but one was starting next week. They then proceeded to tell me that it had only been there since 04-27. I said no, we brought it in several weeks ago. She said no, the dates dont get changed. I said no, you are wrong, it has been there several weeks. She disagreed again. I then asked when it would be done and she said oh, we are waiting on a carburetor. I was like what?! You just said it was because you didnt have a mechanic. Then I said when will it be in? When was it ordered? I dont know she said both times. Waited for John to get home and found out we dont even need a carburetor, just the one small part. He went to go pick it up and the OWNER is refusing to return OUR property that has sat there for 7 weeks (which he admitted) with nothing being done unless we pay for the carburetor that isnt even here yet!!!!!! So John called the cops. He then decided he would give us our own property but only if John paid for the labor he had already done to the tune of $112.35, ($90 of which was labor). See receipt. Funny thing is, it started immediately when John brought it home just now, but he had ordered a new carburetor for it? Can you say CROOK? Needless to say, again, DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH BEAVER MOWER. HE IS A LIAR, A CHEAT, AND A SCAM ARTIST.
Just got off the phone with me and talked to a teck for honda motor very helpfull thank you. You saved me 100s
Was recommended by a family member and really wish I would have check their reviews first. I wasn’t sure why my mower wasn’t starting at the beginning of the season and dropped it off to have it checked out. They mentioned it would be about a week and they would give me a call once it’s ready. About 2 weeks went by and I called multiple times with no answer and no call back. I was at work at the time so the family member that referred me went in to check up on it and they said they were busy (and I totally understand that) that think it should be done by the end of the week. (Still didn’t call back to let me know that like I had asked) another 2 more weeks go by and I called and once again no answer and no call back.So I said screw it and went down there and picked it up regardless of whether it had been touched yet or not. When I went down there I was informed that there was 3 ahead of mine so if I wanted to wait they think it will be done in a few days. I probably would have taken him at that word if I would have just gotten a simple call back after the multiple times I’ve tried to contact them. At this point I would rather spend my money on getting something new than give them my business if that’s how they operate. The one positive I will give was the young guy that talked to me when I picked it up was very nice and apologetic to the situation.
Dis organized and rude staff
Reliable and dependable. Scott and his team have always done a fantastic job with our lawn and small engine repair. I would highly recommend Beaver Mower & Equipment.
Had everything I needed for spark plugs and air filter parts no one else in town at other small engine part stores had. Front desk employee knowledge and experience paid off as well. Worth the trip (cause I could never got through on the phone).
Very poor service. Dont go
Great place. They had the small part that I needed for my snow blower repair. They even talked me through how to replace it. I will always shop here first
I tried Beaver Mowers this year as I lost confidence in my previous repair place. They did an excellent job service was prompt and my mower runs and cuts better than it has for years. Service was fast and I was realistic as I took my mowers in before I needed to mow not when I needed to mow. These guys are good!
Can’t say enough good things about Beaverdale Mower. Very knowledgeable - super customer service! So happy I bought my new mower there. Only slightly more expensive than one from a big box store, but it was assembled and delivered with a full tank of gas - amazing!
Great people. Did great job fixing my mower. Will be going back if I have to knock on wood. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Found snow blower belts here that no one else had.
Stopped in for the drive belt on my lawn tractor. Amazingly they had it in stock! The dude even took time to walk me through the right way to get out back on. Compared to HomeDepot where I couldnt even get a person after having someone paged
Very fair pricing. Great variety of products and repair services. Scott (owner) is honest, kind and will refer you to another place if he doesnt carry in his inventory the best product to meet your individual needs. Very trustworthy. Highly recommend him. Treats you like family.
Push mower dropped off for a standard tune up. One month later still no mower and the person behind the counter went from will have it done in two more days to at lease another five as soon as he heard the words better business, and if I wanted to just pick up the mower we would be charge 20.00 for nothing. DO NOT REFER ANYONE TO THIS COMPANY.
The guys at Beaver Mower are great! Friendly, fast service, and if they dont have the part, theyll get it. Happy to send business their way!
We had Beaver Mower tune-up our mower this spring (2018). Ran great! They picked it up and delivered it back to us which was a plus. Our back yard got VERY flooded on 6-25-18 and we had so much water, our small riding lawn mower ended up on a concrete storm intake in the neighbors yard and got very damaged and water logged to say the least. When I told Scott what happened, he did not charge me for pickup and delivery and adjusted our bill due to our circumstances. Very, very nice people!!! Will definitely be back!!!
Great place to go if you need anything fixed!
All of the workers except the owner are nice. The owner is very rude and unpleasant. I hope they get zero more customers just because of the owner. (After posting this review) the owner called me harassing me... telling me that I was a liar and did not have a bad experience with him... which only makes me further want to re-post this experience... when I first called after waiting almost a month i gave the gentleman my claim ticket and he tried to tell me that my claim ticket did not exist, so I said come on dude i know this claim ticket is right and that you have my power washer. he then started to mock me and become very unpleasant saying that my using the term dude was condescending.. and that I was being rude first (mind you after he basically said that my product I had left at his place did not exist) I REPEAT I WILL NEVER SEND ANYONE OR GO TO THIS BUSINESS EVER AGAIN PURELY BASED ON THE OWNER HIMSELF. I URGE ANY POTENTIAL NEW CUSTOMERS FROM NOT GOING HERE... Find another business to go too.... heck buy a new machine or deal with the manufacturer before ever considering going to this place.. I hope this man never gets another OUNCE of business
Ive taken a number of items (weed whacker, mower, snowblower) to Beaver Mower and Ive always received fast, fair, friendly and competent service.
Stopped in to buy a part I thought I needed to fix my hedge trimmer. Scott gave me some excellent advice that pointed me towards another problem and I was able to fix it. I was close to tossing it in the garbage, but do to his excellent service I was able to save money on unneeded parts and wasted time. Thanks!
Scott made sure to get me in right away for a tune up. He even showed me how to operate parts of my mower I didnt know I had. He was fair and called me that day to let me it was ready to go. He even stayed late so I could pick up my mower. Great place to do business!
Took in my 3-yr-old power washer because it lacked pressure and no water was coming out. Was told I needed a $250+ pump. Said it would take 2-3 days, but ended up being 11. Used it a couple times this summer, then it recently had the EXACT same problem. This time, after I suggested it may have been due to poor workmanship, they said it was just a loose valve that they fixed for free. I feel like they scammed me in the spring…I also took in my mower for a tune-up. Was told it would take 2-3 days, but I had to call them after 7, 8, and 9 days. I used it during the summer, but noticed it was getting more difficult to start. Eventually, I couldnt pull the cord at all. I checked the oil and found there was NO OIL IN IT! They tried to tell me it was a leak, but there was no evidence of any leak on the mower or on my garage floor. Luckily I put oil in it myself and got it to work again. Avoid this place!!
For small engine repair year round! Simply the best! (Be patient they are very busy) Comes with being the best. 😉
I needed a missing part for my power washer. They quickly identified the part, searched their extensive parts area and found what I needed and installed it for me. Exellent service and helpful advice.
The Beaver Mower team has become my go-to guys for maintenance of lawn care equipment. What was once a topic of frustration (will it start!?!?) is now an afterthought. Scott & Mikes rating in the Peace of Mind factor is consistently high.
Dropped the weed whacker off Saturday afternoon. I was told up front that due to high demand that it could take up to 3 weeks to fix (understandable being the beginning of June). Debated fixing it myself (simple tune up & gas line replacement) but I thought that I would never be able to get around to it. Just my luck, it rains all day Sunday, softball games canceled, now I have freetime with no weedeater to fix. I call bright and early Monday morning, explained to the owner and requested to come pick it up. My request was granted, no grief, no excuses. I will return to purchase by parts here and would recommend this place to others.
Very bad serviceCalled many times to find out what was going on with my mower and the finally told me it was doneWent in for a cable replacementEnded up with an air filter .6 quart of oil and a new bolt for handleThe guy at the counter Mike when asked why I got no return call stated if you find me employees I would have time to answer the phoneCrappy customer serviceAVOID THIS Business!!Owner called and harrassed me after I posted this!!
Scott always takes good care of me and is very personable, knowledgeable and professional! Wouldn’t take my mower or showblower anywhere else! Always fair and quick.
I will never take anything to Beaver Mower and I strongly suggest no one else does if they want good customer service.Scott was very rude, aggressive, disrespectful, etc. He spit on my wife and was bumping his chest into her after he came toward me in an aggressive manner after I accidentally slammed his non-fire code door. He called me numerous profane names both before and after I exited the shop. He assaulted my wife by spitting on her while screaming and threatening her when she stepped in front of him to prevent a physical altercation because he was coming at me so fast.He then got nose to nose with her and started bumping his chest into hers while spitting on her and threatening her.I paid $105.00 for repairs that allowed me to use my chainsaw 4 times. Beaver Mowers advertises, Service is what we sell but they wouldnt stand behind their work. Im now out $105 and my chainsaw doesnt work again. I have never been treated so unprofessionally in my entire life. Scott, the owner might be able to turn a wrench but the way he treats paying customers is deplorable. He should never be able to deal with the public in any form; let alone as a business owner.
Please potential customers take these reviews to heart. Worst service I have ever encountered. Scott the owner is a horrible person. If you have questions he will openly mock you for asking. Took boyfriends power washer here for warranty. It took almost a month to get done and we had to call them. Thank goodness this was a warranty and was not costing us, I would have just bought a new one and say to hell with them. Horrible horrible horrible. Do not give them business!
Great service. I take ALL my lawn equipment to Scott and his guys. They take care of me WELL. Quick turn around.
Terrible service 😞 Was told two weeks. At three weeks called and no update was told new time frame of three weeks and that they were not responsible for what employees told customers in terms of time frames (it was the owner that stated they original two weeks!). Then what was supposed to be an oil change, blade sharpen, and fix of self propell ended up in a new transmission. Our mower was running fine up till then with the exception of no self propell. Taking mower elsewhere. Very disappointed in service and integrity of this business. 😞
These guys have earned every star. They have shown respect to me, and attentive care for my equipment on numerous visits. I will continue to support this local business, and hope others get to experience this local Des Moines business.
Great place to get your mowers/snow blowers/yard equipment repaired! Nothings better!!
Terrific service, small part costs are often better than the interwebs. Keep local small businesses alive.
Outstanding business place. Honest and listens to your concerns to come up with the best solution.
I was told my string trimmers would be repaired in 10 days, and waited patiently for over a month. After a phone call and a personal visit to the shop to check on the progress, I finally decided to take the trimmers home and complete the repairs myself. I was polite and professional with the employees of Beaver Mower throughout this entire process. Nonetheless, the owner of the business came out from the back and became confrontational and abusive with me--all because he apparently did not like the fact that I silently shook my head while he gave me a long-winded excuse about why repairs were so backed up. I explained that I am a small business owner myself, and I understand that sometimes work falls behind--but I would have appreciated a simple phone call. The owner then got even angrier than before, called me an ass, and refused any further discussion. On the bright side, he held the door for me courteously as I exited with my broken trimmers.
Always good workmanship and honest. Turnaround is usually two to three weeks, but sometimes up to a month. Owner is friendly but for three years running has complained about being overwhelmed with work. Can be difficult to find your order if you lose the claim ticket. Not great about calling you to say its done but very friendly when you call them.
They do good quality work and charge the lowest shop rate of all the small engine stores in the city
These 1 star reviews are warranted. Took some equipment here for a warranty repair, and it took over a month for the process to even get started. We were never returned a phone call, or ever called back like we told we would be, so after 3 weeks we had to call in every day to find out if its progress. The owner (Scott?) was either on vacation or decided to take the day off unexpectedly (according to the guys answering the phone). In the meanwhile, the yard was growing like weeds & I was stuck between deciding to leave the equipment there & buying new, or waiting it out. In the end everything got taken care of, and was done professionally when doing so, but the process overall was not very professional and I did wish, at the time, I had gone with another solution.
They had our lawnmower for 2 month charged us alot and told us it wasnt worth fixing. We took it to a guy who works on it for fun and had it dine in a week and said it was a great rider. Plus said everything that that beaver wsaid they did was not not done. This place ripped us off. I wouldnt send anyone there. Big rip off.
Terrible customer service from start to end. 4 weeks later and multiple call backs to learn they wanted $275 to repair the self-propelled mech. (Basically totalled) Then wanted $75 to return the mower. Avoid this shop at all costs.
Scott the Owner is very Rude, beware he will lie to you and rip you off.
They got my mower up and running like new,and the pros at beaver mower did it in a timely manner,I couldnt be happier the service with a smile, and I thought such things were a memory of a bigone era.five stars to beaver mower
I took my mower there this Spring after making the poor decision to mow off my Hastas (apparently the stalk is pretty hard). They had my mower for a month, I got it back May 6th. I took it home and it ran great... on the pavement. As soon as the mower touched grass and the engine took a load, it bogged down and quit. The mower ran terrible. I took the mower apart myself this time. It took all of 10 minutes to discover that the flywheel key was partially sheered off, resulting in poor timing and thus poor engine performance. Quickly replaced the key and the mower runs like new. Runs perfect. By the way, for those who dont know, the sheer key is very commonly replaced when you hit something, it is designed to sheer so it reduces damage to the engine. It is ridiculous they didnt check this. I talked to Scott, the owner, about the issue today. He argues with me that it ran perfect when it was at the shop and therefore wasnt his problem. I tried to explain my side of the story to which he didnt believe. He would not issue me any kind of compensation. Needless to say, but I enjoy telling people now that I will not be returning to this place nor would I recommend it. I even filed a BBB complaint against them today. Its a shame too, this area could use a good small engine repair place. Better customer service and repair and this place could thrive.
Took almost 3 weeks to get our mower back for a pretty basic tune up. after being told that theyd contact us if they recommended anything else to fix, they just did it and our bill was considerably higher. also left 2 voicemails that went un-returned. they blame they slow service and ignored calls on being too busy. This is akin to not having enough wait staff at 6:30 at a restaurant. Very poor service. On the bright side, the probable owner that I deal with was friendly and fair when it was time to settle up.
All Scott (owner) cares about is Warranty Jobs, because thats where he makes his money. had my mower there for two weeks sitting. Finally I picked it up and took it to Tru Value on 63rd. The Guys took care of Me there.
Very friendly staff
I took my snowblower to this place for repairs to the pull start assembly. It was under warranty from Sears and this is one of the two places they recommended me taking it for the repairs. I dropped it off in the beginning of the summer (June). I was informed that they had a lot of mowers they were working on, but would most likely start working on it in about 3 weeks. After a month, I called to check on the progress and was informed that they had not started yet. A couple of weeks later I called again, assuming they had started. Again, I was informed that they had not started. This occurred throughout most of the summer. At one point I received a call from the company saying it was ready for pickup and that they had put a used pull start to keep my costs down. When I asked why a used part was put on and not a new one, as it was under warranty (and because I did not give authorization to put a used part on) they seemed confused and did not realize it was under warranty (even thought I informed them of this when I dropped it off).I stopped by the building after about 3-1/2 months and several phone calls later to, again, check on the progress. They claimed they were starting the warranty process and I was told they would most likely have it taken care of by the following Monday. I called on the following Monday to see how it went and when it would be ready for pick up. This time I talked to, I believe, the owner who was extremely rude and unprofessional. He flat out told me that I was wrong that I was told someone would start working on it within 3 weeks from when I dropped it off and that he was done speaking with me.Finally, after four months (June - October) I finally had to contact Sears, the company who I had bought the snowblower from and who the warranty was with, to get these guys moving. They are contracted by Sears to fix warranty products such as this. By this time the snowblower had sat outside in the elements the entire time. We had received a significant amount of rain. After a couple of days from the time I contacted Sears I received a call it was read for pickup. I went straight to pick it up after work so I could get it in my garage. All of the plastic is faded and discolored from the sun and there is some rust as well. Had I know it was going to take 4 months I would have kept it in my garage out of the elements and taken it in to be worked on at a later date.
Horrible experience and customer service. I took my power washer there as I had to use them for my extended warranty contract thru Sears. Called said was ready to pick up no cost due to warranty thru Sears. Went to pick up said no wasnt ready. They called me the next morning said wasnt finished repairs totaling more than I paid for it initially. Advised me next time to purchase thru them rather than Sears. Gentleman said would be fine to leave it there while I wait for response from Sears as to the next step. Received call from Scott (owner) screaming at me to pick it up, tried to tell him arrangement previously made w/ his employee. I was told to shut up, I hung up on him he continued to call me back multiple times harassing and screaming at me. I will never purchase from Beaver Mower or Sears again, as I will NEVER deal w/ this company or its owner again. Very bad business! Reporting to BBB
NIghtmare experience,,,,, took my rider in for a tune up,, Mike told me they would change oil, rebuild carberator, change plug, sharpen blades & would be just like new & would cost $140.00 & would take 2 weeks. 3 weeks went by...told them to bring mower back. they took 3 more days, they put new blades on with out my permission. Charged me $374.00. The blade deck is on the ground on one side & 6 off ground on the other side & the lift wont work, talked to scott the owner,,, HE WAS VERY VERY MOUTHY AND Rude....Have 2 push mowers to be repaired. ..GUSS WHERE THERE NOT GOING
4 weeks to finally tell me they werent going to work on my rider because they bumped snowblowers ahead of me. It wouldve been nice to know that 4 weeks ago when i dropped it off and was told 1 week.
Despite the negative reviews the only place I could go to for my push mower while under warranty was this business. Although I was given a 1 week turn around time on the time of service repair I was very pleased that it was fixed in a matter of hours.
Fantastic service and super-positive attitude.
Had a good experience with them warrenty parts for log splitter thank you
Very helpful and wise, great advice!
Took forever to get our pressure washer fixed. Half the summer was gone before we could use it...
Nice people AND good service
Outstanding service and customer relations
God awful service.. Scott needs to find a different career or stay in the back. Was told customer is wrong 90% of the time!!!
Horrible customer service they take longer then they say they will to fix your item. And they dont call you when its done and wont pick up the phone either because Ive called for about a week now!!!
Took time but the unit I took in had to have parts that were hard to get
Hey Scott ( owner) Youre going down . Sears is gone. No more warranty jobs for you buddy. Get out of our Neighborhood.. youre a disgrace.

Great folks to deal with.
Limited parking, not greeted when entered, poorly laid out
Good friendly people
Extremely slow and over priced.
They keep what you take to repair they do not return it and they never call you to tell you if they restored what you took to repair and they are very reasonable
