SE 14th Street in Des Moines. Ive had enough of this place! I try to get propane here because its by far the cheapest in town but also by far the worst service Ive ever had at any place. All I get is excuses on why they cant help me such as Were out of propane even though customer service told me that store had plenty, or another is We dont have someone authorized to pump propane, and the best one is Were shut down. Why is the propane shut down but the store is still open? Im tired of the excuses. UHAUL, you have lost my long time business and you will never get it back!
Can I tell you that it was a breathe of fresh air when Lori picked up the phone. I work storage and this girl has integrity, customer service, and the art of doing the next right thing, which is rare.The ONLY person during my long move across country that was a welcome sign of relief!! Better acknowledge Lori, she’s the bomb!!
Don’t even bother renting from here. Made a reservation way in advance and called several times ahead to make sure everything was good. Until the day off when we came to pickup we got screwed over and did not get any money off or anything. We wanted a reimbursement and money off for having to travel far away to get our van, but got nothing except wasted time and gas money to go there. Was offered a larger van for a MORE EXPENSIVE price than quoted, but we were unable to move such a large van in the city. Can’t believe we didn’t receive any reimbursement
Its hard moving by yourself with 3 young kids but these ladies have been so kind and so helpful! We appreciate youre patience and thank you for being so wonderful to us!
Picked up truck same day. The lady was friendly, knowledgeable and quick. Dropped off truck when I was done. Smooth transaction, I will be back for more.
I have had the worst experience with U-Haul and if I could give no stars I would. It starts out with the reservation being put under the wrong name, now this is important because when they STEAL hundreds of dollars from you they wont speak to you because your names not on the contract! I have been attempting to get my money back for over a week. What was supposed to be $70 dollars became almost $300! Hey if you feel like getting ripped off U-Haul is the place!
This place seems always under staffed. Therefore the workers run around like crazy. Tempers can run short, but I have found them all to be good people. Expect to stand in line.
You would think that it would be really easy to check out a truck when the reservation was made online. You would probably be right. Unfortunately, the employees at this location are entirely inept, and dont honor the online reservation. Not only did the employee who checked me in try to talk me down on the distance and time I had requested, she actually gave me a truck that was nine feet shorter than the one I had reserved, causing me to need to add a trip, which increased the mileage I had to pay. I thought the truck looked short, but I assumed I must have been wrong, because my reservation said 26 feet, so surely that was what they were giving me. It might have been easier to do her job if she hadnt been busy talking to her coworkers during the three question check in process, or trying to get change out of her purse so someone could buy her a soda while I was standing there waiting for her to do her job after we had started the check in. Out of pure pettiness, and at great cost to myself, I would buy my own truck before this location gets any business from me again. Their team is entirely unprofessional, and not honoring the terms of my reservation is unacceptable.
I wouldnt normally write a negative review, but Ive given this location ample time to make it right and they have not. I rented a u-haul for 22 hours- my estimated total was $119- going 40 miles (an overestimation on my part). I found out when I checked my bank statement a few days later, they had charged me $1271.68. I spoke to the Regional Manager, who assured me it would be corrected. My supposed refund was for $978.09. Still wasnt adding up, especially because my actual mileage was 17.9 miles. Ive emailed, called, even texted to get the additional refund- and have been ignored completely- and the original refund has still not been put back into my account. The customer service has been absolutely terrible- wish I would have read the reviews before using this location.
My son-in-law rented the 26 ft Uhaul truck; I drove it for him. I was surprised at how quickly the turn back in process went. In my opinion, if you need moving equipment - its the place to go.
I rarely give a business one star, but tonight was their lucky night. Were going camping tomorrow and one of our 30 lb propane tanks was empty. It was 6:15 in the evening and my daughter checked out Uhaul to see when they closed... 7:00. I figured we could get there in time for someone to fill the tank and still leave by seven. Apparently, I was wrong.We raced down to the store and got there about 6:40. Theres a bell to ring to get propane filled. My daughter rang it and we waited about five minutes... no one came out so we went inside and were told that propane was shut down for the evening. I was disappointed that we drove 15 miles to get propane and came home empty handed. Rest assured that I will find another source tomorrow as I dont think I can take the chance on catching them in the mood to fill tanks.
Friendly staff but their pricing for truck rentals had gone through the roof. Mileage is over a dollar a mile.

I went there slightly after their supposed opening time and the place was still locked up, lights were off and no one was to be seen. I waited around for about 25 min and still no one was there. I ended up leaving and going somewhere else.
I would give this store no stars if possible! An employee got ahold of my card # !!!! I rented a Uhaul for 49.95, which I was charged 5 times for! 12/17/2020, 12/18/20, 12/21/20, 12/21/20, 1/13/21! Dirt Bags!

Had an appointment scheduled for 11am to have a hitch installed I was not help for an hour and a half. When they finally got to me they said I would have to come back the next day because some of the parts were not delivered. Horrible customer service and will not be going back.

The manager at this store is very unprofessional and rude. She was unpleasant and clearly hated her job. She talked down to me and the employee she was training and when I simply asked if any other units that were closer were available she told me to suck it up a simple not at this time would have been sufficient. Unprofessional for the money it costs. Would not recommend.
I rented a 14 foot truck (reserved online) to move my daughter into her college apartment. I had nothing but a totally positive experience at this location from start to finish of the rental. From the friendly staff, everything explained, no having to wait, in fact - no issues whatsoever. Would I recommend U-Haul Moving & Storage of Southeast? You bet. Ill be back in the future for my next U-Haul rental needs.
Managers are super rude and unprofessional. We reserved a 26 truck and two days before our move they called and said it wasnt going to be available and offered us a 20 truck. Of course, not everything fit, so we had to go back and rent a van to finish our move. They charged us FULL price for the van, and the only discount they applied was 20 cents off the miles (only drove it 13 miles). Rent from any other Uhaul than this place. They are AWFUL!
Ubox pickup was smooth and speedy. Order was as booked online, no problem with one day shift in pickup. Box has yet to be shipped cross-country but our experience so far has been great.
Very positive experience here. Also, they held onto a personal item I left in the truck and had it when I came back that day. A+

This is the worst business I have ever patronized. We showed up the morning of our move and they didnt have our truck...but dont worry, they gave us one half the size. And still made us pay for it. On top of that we had to pay $200 extra for our movers because it took twice the time and number of trips to move our items.We were literally laughing because we couldnt believe how rude the employees were. I have no clue why these people have a job with any sort of customer interaction. When I asked if they would call if the bigger truck came i so we could switch it out, they literally said why would we do that? why would we help you? (because they didnt like that I was an upset customer). Umm..how about because its your job??I am a Realtor and will refer my clients anywhere else, I will move their boxes MYSELF so no one else has to deal with this ridiculous place and wretched people.BOTTOM LINE: Go somewhere else. Go ANYWHERE else. Steer clear of this place, its cheaper for a reason!!!
I guess close at 7 means they want to be done with their work and out of there by seven. It doesnt matter if someone comes in at last minute. If they ignore you, youll go away. A worker walked to a rental, avoided eye contact and went about his business. I needed propane for my trailer, but they didnt care. If I could give them no stars, I would. I guess they come first before customers.

Tim and customer service number has been very understanding of my situation lost our home of 13 yrs and had only enough money to rent truck and obtain storage and with truck full the storage of property at storage Mart was not 24 hours as I first thought so before I could get it unloaded (26 ft truck) they helped me not stress on time and I AM JUST VERY PLEASED AND WOULD RECOMMEND THEM FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FOR BEING HUMAN ....., And the restroom was very surprising for men running the store! Way to go
Horrible and I mean HORRIBLE customer service. They are not helpful at all. The people are rude and inconsiderate. People who work in the customer service industry should NOT talk to customers the way they do. They never have enough people working to meet the demand and the people who work there, you can tell they hate their jobs, and would rather be anywhere but there. Gtfo of customer service. Never will I waste my time or money there ever again. I dont recommend them for anyone. Dont waste your money either.

They say you can make a reservation with one card and pay with another when picking up reservation....WRONG...they will have you swipe the card you want to purchase with but charge the card they have on file, very untrustworthy. They didnt seem to understand anything about our reservation of a simple tow dolly or answer any questions. They couldnt spell a name right on it after being told how it was spelled three times, very slowly. I understand this store has alot of traffic but maybe relaying the messages between the people checking in and out the reservations and the people answering the phones would help.
Lately Ive just been going here to pay my storage room rent & I usually get it done pretty fast if they are not extremely busy.

Paid to have a hitch installed at 8am, drove over an hour to get there, arrived early. They put another vehicle in ahead of mine and told me 4-5 hours. I came back 5 and a half hours later and my vehicle was still parked where I left it. I got a refund, but now Im basically screwed. They will gladly out a drop off in before your paid to install at this time.
Customer service is terrible at the SE. 14th St. store in Des Moines. Everyone walks around really slow with no purpose and doesn’t acknowledge your there and are very very slow to do anything. All the employees look unhappy to be there, end it seems as if they need training on customer service, people skills and even how to do their job. I stood inside the store for 15 minutes while two different employees walked right past me and did not acknowledge I was there, I was only waiting to get my propane tank refilled so I decided to go somewhere else. When I rented a trailer from there recently it was the same story.
I had a HORRIBLE experience. If I could give a negative start rating, I would. This is for the SE 14th Uhaul location. Random charges were put on my card for things I never used or bought AFTER I dropped everything off. They charged me for a utility dolly and furniture pads that I NEVER EVEN HAD or ordered in the first place AFTER I dropped everything off. AND they called me TWICE AFTER I dropped off the truck an hour early to tell me I was LATE in bringing my truck back. How do you lose and entire truck?ALSO, when I dropped off my truck, I was walking into the store and one of the employees met me at the door and just TOOK my keys. So I asked him if I could have a receipt for everything and he said he just had to check the truck and get back to me. So I go in, ask another one of the guys behind the counter, who saw the whole thing if the guy who took my keys actually worked there and when I could get my receipt. He said Josh (thats who he said helped me) did work there and that he was getting the mileage from the truck. When Josh came back in he said that another guy was going to get me my receipt. So I waited. I sat there for 20 mins. Several employees passed me, one was behind the counter for most of the time and NO ONE ASKED IF I NEEDED HELP OR GOT WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR. So I left, thinking well, I did my due diligence, I came back early, truck was full of gas, and I waited 20 mins with no help. I still have to unpack all my stuff cause I literally just moved and Im tired. Then around 3:30pm I get a call that my truck needs to be turned in. Then I get another one around 5 from a different person saying the same thing.The only reason I even have a receipt letting me know they wrongly charged me is because I spend over an hour on the phone with about 3 customer service reps and then had my final receipt emailed to me.I want everyone to know that I booked my truck online 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE for my move. I didnt just walk in that day to get a truck. ALSO the idiot and theif who charged me is named Joshua Reynolds - found that on my overcharged receipt.

These guys are terrible. I reserved online, got confirmation, but they were missing one dolly. I also was there on time, but had to wait over a half hour to get my truck. The person at the front desk was busy arguing with another Uhaul, loudly, when I got there. When the guy went to move trucks around, he grabbed his vape and used it in the cabs! These guys do have decent supply stocks, though, including truck availability. If you can, try another Uhaul first.

Former customer and I vow to never return. Staff is rude and inconsiderate and they ignore customers, mistreated, and left waiting in long lines for slow service. The current manager/owner Jedediah is rude and highly unprofessional. When problems arose with my account he treated me like I was scum and garbage and started getting snippy and using foul language. It was his way or the highway.This is a climate controlled facility that isnt climate controlled. Various times I visited my storage unit I found the facility to be warm and the staff showed that they did NOT care! Furthermore, U-Haul pushes you into this climate controlled facility with the promise of a month free. Free is great but theres a catch. Storage cost is higher than at a regular U-Haul location = not worth it. Standing in long lines to get a separate key, rude staff, and sometimes an inability to get to the storage door due to trailers or trucks parked in front. Small parking lot.This location has also changed management and staff many times and over the phone everyone is either clueless or flat-out rude!U-Haul as a whole has lost my business forever!
The worst possible. DO NOT GO THERE! You will be sorrrry. They are understaffed, unconcerned, full of excuses as to why your reserved conveyance is not there, and basically clueless. People dont bring trucks and trailers back when they are required to, and obviously that makes those bad customers complete morons, but will the employees here go out of their way to make sure that is not your problem and wont completely screw up your moving plans!?? Not even close! Especially when you reserved a trailer weeks in advance, show up and stand in line for 30 mins only to be told it is in a different city.I see most U-Haul locations in the metro have poor ratings, but this one is by far the most important one to avoid at all cost! An unorganized cluster and a half! Penske is more expensive, but at least they try to make it worth your money & time. U-Haul borders on total idiocy!Live and learn I guess.
Absoutley a complete joke and the people working there made it even worse..Had a reservation set up go to pick up the uhaul say they didn’t assign it to that place or any for that matter..Best part is I called two hours before to make sure it was ready for pick up oh yeah no problem at all we got it ready for you..Workers are complete morons and have no clue whatsoever of how to run a business..Thanks for making us go to Penske which is the absolute best!!
Horrible service . Had a storage unit with this location for years . Found out they were billing me for “insurance” on my belongings so I called and left messges, that were never returned, until I finally called customer service . They sent a message to the GM about removing the additional fees and I put my account back on autopay thinking it had been resolved . Come to find out SEVEN FULL MONTHS LATER they were still billing it . Called in a complaint and the GM basically scoffed on the phone and told me to file a complaint with customer service in order for him to credit the charges back . That was in Feb of 2018 . Next week is May . Beyond frustrated, still no response from this location as they NEVER return customer voicemails & will be moving my stuff out this month !!

DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION!!!! Called about the 5 day rental policy on a tow dolly to move from Des Moines to Las Vegas. Asked multiple times if I got out there in less time (the drive is 27 hours) I would be refunded the difference. The staff member then hung up on me after the 3rd time I asked the same question. I called back asking for a manager the person acted like they cared and said they would get an answer to my question. As I type this I have been on hold for over 10 minutes. For the $350 I was quoted plus the insurance I could drive the car out and stay at a hotel with the difference.

I move up from florida about 2 months going on 3. My family used to work with uhaul, so I know how it works. This particular Uhaul dealership is flat out rude, doesnt help you in the lightest, and and need to hire more COUNTER people. You cant tell me they cant afford it, because uhaul is the #1 self moving company. BUt like I said, this location is pretty much crap, the units are NOT climat controlled like advertised. I have went into my unit and I could just feel the humidity and grossness of the warmth in there. They say you first month is free, but whatthey neglect to tell you is their employees are idiots. I was trying to get the cheapest insurance on the unit, and the guy helping me did the 3rd most expensive one, and said he couldnt change it. So happy to be getting my stuff out of storage today, but I will never use this location ever again. I will find another.
First of all, the staff are not co-operative and the timing are not good.I did not receive my bill till date,i had taken out all my stuff from storage a month back and the guy told that he was going to send out bill in a email within few minutes.Staff and reckless and irresponsible.I would not suggest this place to anyone.I hope that they would atleast send my bill after looking at this review-if at all they care about their business

They cancelled my reservation of a 5x8 enclosed trailer with out notifying me when I showed up to pick up the trailer all they told me was that there wasn’t anything they can do.
Took a truck 23 miles, filled 6 gallons full and they said I was short. Crooked place and will never return. They will nickel and dime you for everything they can.
