The location, building and inside of the diner is really cute. The staff is so kind and helpful with selections. But overall the food was not that great. We got the cast iron French toast (initially delicious but then the more you eat it’s just too sweet and doesn’t taste much like French toast), curry and eggs (alright, way too many potatoes, not enough eggs and overall not wowed by the flavor combo) and Raclette omelette (delicious! Highly recommended).
Real good place to eat. The menu pictured was current. Everything looks to be sourced locally based upon freshness and availability so I’m speculating the menu can change. This place is so worth the trip, it’s located in a building that looks like a castle to top it off. Great food great service great hospitality. If the menu kind of throws you off, work through it. You will be glad you did.Visited again with out of town company and we loved it. Make sure to ask for the jams that were made fresh for you and the specialty hot sauces which also are made fresh. Delicious 😋.
Amazing food! Well worth the wait. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and the menu rotates every 3 months. We were given a 35 minute wait and waited 45 minutes. The restaurant is small with about a 35 person capacity and there were more people waiting than eating while we were there on a Sunday morning before a Lions game.
A very very cool diner! They had so many unique options: duck eggs, suckling pig bacon, they whipped the eggs to make the omelet in a malt mixer which made them very fluffy. There were a variety of hard drinks on the menu. The jam for my toast was a seasonal, house made jam. They were extremely busy, but our waiter was phenomenal. Offered great suggestions and conversations. There were vegan and gluten-free options as well. You can see more of our diner adventures on Instagram: mi_diner_adventure
This was my second time dining here! Had a great experience both times. This most recent experience, we brought our daughter and she loved the lamb bacon! I did too! The ricotta pancakes are amazing! Our waitress Liz was great too, especially considering how busy it was and she was waiting a few tables!! Definitely a great time place to dine and is worth the wait!
Loved the food. Everything was amazing. Loved the self serve coffee stand while we waited for a table. Was impressed they were still allowing people to come in a little after closing as well. Waitress was nice. Only complaint I had was how loud it was. I gave up having a conversation because I was basically yelling. Would return regardless!
By far the best little diner in Detroit, but I should emphasize little. The good news is that even on a super crowded Sunday morning I only had to wait about 15 minutes and the service was impeccable! They have a few amazing vegan options as well as numerous vegetarian options. Fast, friendly service and unique breakfast options that truly set this little diner apart.
The food was delicious. OMG good. I had the cheese omelet. The eggs were fluffy and light and the cheese just right. The potato chunks were crispy and brown. I also ordered their pimento grits. The taste out of this world. My husband had their buttermilk pancakes. Superb. The pancakes had cinnamon and maybe nutmeg flavor. I dont know. All the food had an extra kick to them. Not spicy but flavorful. The food came out hot. The place is small, 30 people maybe, be prepared to wait. The staff wonderful. Give them an extra tip. They deserve it all. Enjoy!!
Everything overall was meh. The donuts had the best potential but one of them had uncooked dough in the middle. The hash potatoes were nice and crispy but the toppings of caramelized onions and roasted garlic were overpowering and mushy. I think they had the most potential if ordered by themselves. Biscuits and gravy wasn’t very good especially since the gravy was very watery. Hot chocolate was also very watery.
I loved it, but can see why others would not. Its an authentic little diner that puts out some interesting dishes. I had the fisherman board and was thrilled! A substantial amount of salmon, and the fresh creme with dill, pickled vegetables and pumpernickel allowed for some lively flavor combinations in each bite. I was just visiting Detroit, but this is a place I would go back if there again. We timed it just right. There wasnt a table open, but there was a couple stools at the counter. I enjoyed eating at the counter! But that only works for one or two. When we left the wait was substantial. So if you go, be patient. Service was good for us because we were good for them. But I could see them catching an attitude if the customers cope any attitude.
The food here was top notch. Hands down the best breakfast sausage I have ever had. Eggs were very good and the creme brulee french toast was so incredible I didnt add syrup! Coffee was also very good. Service was also top notch. Friendly and approachable. Nice place to eat and people watch. No reservations taken, but it is worth the wait.
This spot is small and quaint ( and that is not code for cramped). They serve a lot of traditional breakfast items, as you can see on the menu. They do have Bells Two Hearted on draft which is a huge plus. Their homemade salsa is also great, sweet with a kick. They make it from habaneros, carrots, and sugar. I ordered The Standard, eggs over-medium. Everything was cooked to perfection. There was a nice, light seasoning on the eggs as well. Really enjoyed the house coffee. The staff was friendly and prompt too. Highly recommend.
My best friend and I always come here for our reunion brunch. We havent had anything we didnt love yet - they have lots of vegan and vegetarian options which are all so flavorful. Their menu is always changing, and everyone that works there will tell you what their favorites are and what specific taste differences are, which is helpful! I love their herbivore tacos (vegan), and their VBLT is always on point. They also make this giant cinnamon roll, its their grilled confetti roll that is PLENTY for at least two people. Great option for dessert :) Oh and weve never gotten their mimosas yet because were pretty broke, but everyone that orders one has a physical reaction to how delicious they are hahah, so enjoy!
Just one example of why this is AND HAS REMAINED one of the best brunch spots in Detroit. I took my family here the first time my parents visited me in Detroit after I had moved here a couple years ago. Needless to say, this is now a tradition to come here. All of the food is made from scratch, even the ketchup. The OJ and mimosas also keep me coming back.
Parks & Recs is easily one me of my favorite Detroit establishments. I have been here twice for two very different occasions and I was blown away both times.Once, my friends rented out the restaurant and we all participated in the tasting menu. The menu was filled with unique plates, such as, duck, rabbit, and a variety of veggies, cheeses and meat. The second time was for breakfast, where I had one of the best Bloody Marys I have ever had, an amazing eggs Benedict and delicious figgy treat. The place is small but the energy is not.
Parks and Recreation! I love some of the original building decor! Its was worth the wait. I didnt have too long of a wait on a #beautiful - #tailgating - #lcarena-kickoffweek #lionsfootballkickoffSunday, considering I was dining alone, which is all good, because I meet some great ppl, had some great convo and great food! I will return, very soon #potatohash #p&r #parksandrecdiner
The space is really small so it gets really crowded, which also translates in long wait times at peak hours (they even offer coffee while you’re waiting, which I found really considerate). The staff is nice and the food is good.I definitely recommend stopping by if you’re a small crowd and the place has less than 15 min of wait time. Otherwise I advise to search other options nearby.
The good: the service was on point and quick. The eggs were cooked perfectly, they were light and fluffy. The bad: food was bland, not much flavor. I ordered the hash and it was just too spicy with no other flavor, the potatoes were not cooked throughly and the veggies were barely sauteed and just placed over the hashbrowns instead of incorporated. I was expecting more out of this place with the great ratings but unfortunately I was left disappointed and hungry.
Very cool classic diner with a bit of a modern twist. Located in an amazing old building the space has a counter plus tables giving it the feel of a classic diner but the menu is mainly made of dishes that have a twist on classics. Had steak and eggs, shrimp cake benedict and brisket nachos (best of the three) - all were very good. Also have full bar and nice selection of drinks. Service was great and prices are reasonable but not cheap. Definitely recommended for breakfast or lunch.
They have a great unique selection of brunch items. I got the Killer Croque. Which is pork bacon, runny egg and croque sauce on a homemade biscuit. The homemade biscuits was excellent. The bacon had a nice thick cut and wasnt over cooked. The runny egg made the sandwich difficult to pick up but was a welcomed addition.
This is by far my favorite lunch place in Detroit. My favorite brunch item is the biscuits & gravy, which is by far the best biscuits & gravy Ive literally ever had. The server recommended a side of lamb bacon with the biscuits, which was EPIC. Ive also had the chorizo burrito & the sweet potato French toast, which were fabulous. The place is small so if you go for brunch plan to get there early (they open at 7) and stick to a smaller group if you dont wanna wait forever.
Fantastic. Its like your neighborhood corner diner atmosphere but with crazy good food. The bloody was on point, the cinnamon roll was glorious and my steak and eggs were luxurious, cooked a perfect med rare, and full of flavor. My wifes shrimp and grits cake had this amazing spicy sauce to it... So good. The coffee was also quality. Not the cheapest brunch around, but likely the best tasting. Will be returning.
The entire menu looked so good! Im not a breakfast foods person but I really liked this place because they put a unique spin to each classic brunch dish. That made this place feel special and different than a regular diner. The space was really cute and comfortable.
It was my granddaughters 23rd birthday and this was her choice for a birthday meal. So her mother and myself go downtown Detroit to this restaurant. but I was definitely the oldest person in the building. It was full of young people I think my daughter was second oldest. We enjoyed our meals which tasted good. It was very loud and noisy in there with happy voices. So we shouted along with them. The building comes to a point its one of those buildings that is not square but the door is the only corner Im. It was fun to be in the building in Detroit that is from years and years ago. I enjoyed my visit, my granddaughter was happy.
Great place for brunch. Coffee is amazing, biscuits & gravy is awesome, but would not recommend the nachos. They were a bit salty and not enough chips. Easy fixes, but atmosphere is great, a park is across the street and nice people. Highly recommend!
Excellent brunch option. The bread and toast here are so good. Small little spot but tables turn quickly thanks to the attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommended!
The food there was delicious! We didnt have to wait to be seated. However, it is a small area, so it filled up quickly and within a short time there was. The food is well worth the wait if you have one. This is one of my top breakfast places in Detroit so far. We will definitely be back!
Our greeter was on point and helpful. My steak was cooked properly and tasted good, not great. More cramped than cozy. No convenient area for waiting. Our server didnt offer her name, was forgetful, didnt bring spoon & condiments for coffee, and we had to ask a different server for utensils after our food arrived. Food was not memorable.
Nice local place with great food and service. I enjoyed the Vegan Tartar which was quite tasty. My dad had the Fungi Omelette and it was quite yummy. I would recommend this place in a heart beat. Our waitress was very personable and delivered exceptional service. We were joking with her asking why it took so long for the coffee to come out because she literally brought it in 30 seconds after we ordered it. This place is a great find.
Great mimosas!! Service was great!! Food is mediocre. The Menu is also misleading. My vanilla custard cakes were supposed to come with a pistachio crumble; instead whole pistachios were randomly placed atop the cake and blueberry jam, creating a difficult bite. The ambiance is nice but the food doesn’t speak for itself.
Always something new to try on the menu and never disappointed! Excellent food and service. Avacado toast was great and so was the corned beef hash. Will be back soon!! Great job!
Great food. Small so to get in fast avoid the weekend. Menu changes which is great. I ordered the chicken biscuit and it was yummy! Biscuits are homemade. Service is great. Cant wait to go back!
The portions are small for the price. I know that portions are typically smaller in nicer restaurants but when you order biscuits and gravy, there should be more than one biscuit and a small serving of gravy. The quality of the food is good. I think its a nice restaurant, its just a little pricey for what it is.
Cosy corner brunch place, with amazing, locally sourced, and seasonal food. My personal favorite in the city. Alcoholic brunch beverages also available. Busy on weekends (10m wait). Street parking nearby and easy to find.
Food is delicious, especially the biscuits! Coffee was great and served in very cute mugs (which you can purchase). The place is small but charming. If you beat the rush, you’ll get in no issue. Staff was very nice as well!
I LOVE breakfast and have been to some of the top breakfast stops in Detroit...this is one of the best. Only downside/critique is its a small place so there can be a wait especially on weekends when a lot is going on in the downtown area. But, worth the wait!
Used to be awesome place but head chef was terminated. I understand new chef wants to make his mark but his style just isn’t my style or taste. No more vegan options or vegetarian options anymore, they don’t cater to the non red meat eaters anymore. I tried twice and food is just different. I never knew how important the chef was in design of menu but I see now it’s everything
The food here was amazing. Everybody in my group enjoyed what they ordered and the service was very friendly. I only gave a 4 star because it was very busy and the layout of where I was sitting forced me to be bumped every time a server passed my seat.
Super cute little diner in downtown. Got there when they opened and got a table right away. I ordered the pancakes which were good, but were definitely missing something. Definitely not the best pancakes in Detroit. My friend said it was they had best bacon they had ever had though! There were also lots of vegan options on the menu as well.
The handmade cinnamon roll was the best I ever had. Definitely recommend it to share. Homemade Lamb patties & Avocado toasts are amazing here. Prices are on the higher side, that is why Im taking a star away.
The food was excellent. The eggs were cooked perfectly. No overcooked, rubbery eggs here! Everything was fresh. The black pepper toast was so good. It was hard to choose. Lamb bacon was a nice surprise and very tasty. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Definitely will be returning.
Delicious options in downtown Detroit. Service was wonderful. The atmosphere was so fun. Had the shrimp and grits Benny and the fried green tomato BLT. Drooling thinking about it
So sad I dont live close enough to this place to frequent it anymore. The portions are correct, the coffee is delicious, and they have standard breakfast as well as theyve concocted some beautiful twists on American fare. Id recommend this spot to anybody that likes diner breakfast, and LORD GET THAT BLACK PEPPER TOAST.
Location is good. Decent parking around. The food tastes average.Lots of potential to be better. The bread/toast is weirdly spiced with pepper, that with jelly tastes bad.Wait staff are friendly, but service is poor/slow. The place cant handle a full house.
I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad dish here. They make their own hot sauce that has a perfect flavor combination of sweet and spicy. The lamb bacon is amazing, and I actually prefer it to regular bacon! Highly recommend coming here. It’s worth the wait and the money.
