Excellent & honest service! I wont go into much detail on what I had done to my SUV but just know after my experience with Sterling Automotive they have a customer for life! Its amazing when you drive away from a mechanic feeling like you DIDNT get taken advantage of and thats exactly how I felt. Also the property is gated!

John and Jason were great to deal with. I am very impressed with the repair (all new bearings in the rear-end) and would not hesitate to bring my truck back to Sterling Automotive! Have been there twice and both experiences were great.

I would NOT recommend using this location if you are only seeking a diagnosis on your vehicles check engine light or poor performance. They charge $110 an hour for the diagnosis unlike some shops that charge a flat rate for a diagnosis. AND they can claim the diagnosis took as much time as they want. I paid $242 for a diagnosis at this location for my MDX that has a check engine light on with the codes stating multiple misfires. John told me when I called to schedule my car to be dropped off that given the codes and issue I was explaining that my diagnosis should take about an hour to an hour and a half tops (Johns exact words). When I went to pick up my car John charged me for 2 hours and gave me a runaround reason why it took 2 hours for a PROFESSIONAL shop to figure out which cylinders on a V6 had bad ignition coils when they told me they used their own good ignition coil to swap around and see which ones on my MDX were bad. ALSO -- they didnt even call me to tell me that the diagnosis was not going to be as originally quoted so I could make the decision to not keep racking up the price--and FYI, the Washington State Attorney General says that auto repair shops are supposed to inform the customer if the work is going to be 10% or more from the originally quoted price so the customer can make the best financial decision to continue with the service or not. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN HERE!!! Totally blindsided by the EXCESSIVE cost!If any of you dont know--an ignition coil is at the top of my engine--right there for the taking, no digging or hard work required and screws in and out with ONE screw.... so it took this shop 2 hours to unscrew and screw in 6 ignition coils and run the diagnosis on the machine...? Even if your swapping the coils around and resetting the check engine light, 2 hours is MORE than excessive for a PROFESSIONAL shop!

I cant say enough good things about Sterling! We have been bringing our vehicles here for years and they have always been amazing! They are honest and trust worthy, they dont try to sell you things you dont need, they are kind, professional, and prompt in their service. Plus they have rescued me at broken down vehicles not once but twice! I would never bring my car anywhere else!

I had a flat tire the other day at the gas station across the street from them. Needless to say I have aftermarket tires and rims on my car and had removed all the extra needed tools to take the center piece and lug nuts off the car to change the tire. I walked over to see if they might have tools so that I could get it changed. Not only did they let me borrow tools the guy who helped me even offered to help me if I needed it. I live in Tacoma so not in this area very often but if I lived in that area I would definitely use them for services. I truly cant thank them enough for helping me. I had to take my daughter to work that day and if they hadnt have been willing to help me I would have had to have my car towed. You truly saved my day!

I have a heavily modified vehicle. Places like Les Schwab And other chains do not want to do in alignment. Sterling was very knowledgeable and friendly did the alignment quickly for a very good price. I drove the truck 6 hours to Oregon. Ran it in the sandians and then 6 hours back With no problems or unusual tire wear. I will definitely be using this shop again.

Had a really great experience here. John took the time to explain everything to my husband, even though he was incredibly busy and had already explained what was wrong with my vehicle to me. In addition, he sourced parts overnight and completed the job incredibly fast so that I could have my car in time for work. Also had great experiences with the nice lady who answered the phone a couple times. All around really pleased with the customer service. Wont hesitate to bring my vehicle here again.

I brought my truck to Sterling automotive for a diagnosis of a sound coming from my engine bay and I was told it would be a MINIMUM of $110 for an hour of labor, and they still only ended up charging me $66 after they correctly diagnosed my issue. They saved me tons of time because I thought it was a different issue completely. Huge help.

Truly amazing. Not only was the shop clean when I walked in, not only was the phone manners amazing, but they fixed my car quick and without costing me an arm and a leg. They were sweet, they took pity on a woman with zero clue, and explained everything and I just cant say thank you enough. I have found my local auto shop and I will tell everyone I know of the great service and people at your business.

This is the second time Ive had work done by the friendly professionals at Sterling. My first experience was very positive. So when I needed help with my brakes and AC they were my #1 choice. They gave me an estimate very quickly, sooner than Id even hoped. The repairs were finished quickly and thoroughly to my satisfaction.

Their mechanic Jason spent 8 hours (most of which was on his own time) working on a problem that he was unable to fix appropriately (not due to lack of skills)on the previous visit at no extra cost!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Hacks. Steer Clear.Misdiagnosed a major catastrophic brake leak.Sterling Automotive changed out other parts that questionably had leaks too. Replacement parts/workmanship failed within 2K miles.Marked up replacement parts 3 times from what they sell for at the local auto parts store.I had the shop stop work on the truck because I felt I was being screwed over. The owner lied to me and said he stopped working on the truck to save me money.Owner did refund partial bill after lengthy argument. This was before replacement part failed. Owner refused to give me full refund or fix failed part. I basically paid a couple hundred dollars for Sterling Automotive to mess up my truck.Hacks. Steer clear.

John went out of his way to help me with new tires and wheels as well as an alignment and tune up. He has a great group of guys and they were eager to help out. Thanks for all the help

When our family moved to WA State in 1993, it took several years and disappointed attempts to find an honest reputable automotive repair shop to maintain and/or repair our vehicles. Finally we were able to find Sterling Automotive, and what a relief it has been! We have been taking our vehicles to John for many many years and not once have we been disappointed with the work or the cost associated with their labor. Johns estimates before the work begins are continually fair and honest and he always calls to explain if there is something more or different than what we thought needed to be done, and then would let us decide exactly what work we would have done. No surprises. In his shop is a bulletin board full of thank you cards from satisfied customers just like us who have appreciated Johns kindness and integrity. I highly recommend Sterling Automotive, this business deserves and has earned FIVE stars all the way!

This place just sucks a@@ they did an absolute horrible job on my Dads truck and quite frankly I will NEVER TAKE my car there they deserve to be out of business in all seriousness. They are so bad that all they care about is your money they dont take ANYTHING serious while your there. They deserve about an D minus maybe close to a F.

I was moving my elderly aunt and my tire on my trailer came apart on a Sunday. The owner and his wife pulled in to get something from the office while I was stranded across the street. I ran over and explained my situation and he went to work even though they were closed! Really bailed me out in a jam even though it was their day off. Fixed my tire and wished me luck and I could barely convince them to take twenty bucks. Conversely, There were two workers at less swab. They were working on a vehicle but said they couldnt help me against policy. Shop local. This business deserves the patronage and they are really nice people.

Brought vehicle in with a problem I needed fixed and then when they couldnt figure out the thing that needed to be fixed after a couple tries over 3 weeks they said they didnt have time for my vehicle. brought it somewhere else and fixed it in a couple days. over priced. poor vehicle diagnostics.

Shady business: We had a horrible experience with Sterling. Had work done and when we got the car back there was a rattle like a loose bolt that needed to be tighten and brought right back in to see if they could just look over the work they did to find out where the rattling noise was coming from. Was told we needed a new alternator and that is why it was making that sound. (working fine before any of the work was done). Left the shop & took over to Fathers house he found there was a loose bolt and tightened it with in a matter of two min. Shady business. You always worry about it and sure enough it happens.

My entire family has been taking our cars and trucks to Sterling Automotive for YEARS and have never had a problem. The staff has always been friendly and bend over backwards to accommodate.We even refer to John Sterling, as Honest John. They dont perform work that is not needed and even if you cant afford the list of work needed at the time, they will break it down by priority and safety.I would not (and dont) hesitate sending friends to them. And have yet to hear a negative come from them.My Only wish, is that were open on the weekends... They tried it but, found there was not enough traffic to justify.Mark Hutson

I had my vehicle serviced there once, but never again. The engine light came back on after it was fixed and so I brought it back to the same shop. Turns out they installed the wrong part and they had me pay them over $90 just to tell me they messed up in a diagnostic.Then they wanted me to pay to fix the mistake & made it sound like they were doing me a favor. This shop looks like a good one but they charge much more than other mechanics. They did not treat us very well and I felt ripped off.Thank you!
