The team at GT (front desk and mechanics) do their best to seek excellent customer service. They have fit me into their schedules for last minute emergencies and have given me fair and honest repair feedback and costs. I go to them for routine upkeep on my ride, feeling comfortable knowing my ride is in good hands. Friendly, quality, and fair priced. They listen to instructions and turn around is within good timeframe. Ive never had an issue with them.
Went there and received an appointment for a later date. The mechanics could hear my motor from the shop and stopped me from leaving the parking lot. Took me in that same day and had the car fixed by the next morning. Brought my infiniti there because I know they specialize in Japanese cars but I wouldnt hesitate to bring any car there. I have a 1993 Nissan Hardbody and I wouldnt trust it to anyone other than GT Japanese Automotive. I am a repeat customer and drive an hour South to bring my truck there when it needs something. Had such a pleasure dealing with Kun and his team. They went above and beyond getting my oil change and installing my Tomei Expreme full titanium exhaust as well as carbon canards on my Nissan R35 GTR. They absolutely made sure I was notified every step of the way and were extremely careful with everything, always double checking. Super knowledgeable and they definitely know their stuff. Today I went to company to service my Honda CRV. There was an inexplicable problem with the sunroof not tilting up and not aligning completely with the top of the car. In a half hour I was surprised when they told me my car was done. Turns out it was debris keeping the sunroof from operating correctly. There was no charge. I am so thrilled because the Honda dealer had looked at the car, told me they couldn’t figure the problem out and said it would take hours of labor and cost thousands of dollars to fix it!
I drove through a flooded road and my car ended up going crazy. From no power steering, break issues, battery issues and then my car broke down. I thought I was going to have to buy and new car but they were able to fix my car at a very reasonable price in a timely manner. Workers are very professional and friendly, Kun the mechanic definitely knows his cars. Highly recommend this place.

I needed a last minute fix to my emergency brake on my FJ Cruiser before shipping it to Alaska. I was really impressed by how fast GT was able to squeeze me in before I missed my appointment. Ive been going to this location for the last two years and I think their service is very thorough and the employees at the reception desk are very professional. They have a small waiting area. Therefore, with todays pandemic, it is impossible to wait and be socially distant if there are two others waiting before you. With that said, I would have a back up transportation for this situation. Otherwise, the location is overall very clean and orderly.
I am making GT my go-to for repairs on my car because they turned my car into a snow-traversing beast, and they fixed my girlfriends messed up starter in the same day when her car literally wouldnt start while we were dropping off my car. Amazing service, other-wordly repair skills, super fair pricing and really nice staff. Im bad with names but everybody made the experience at GT a friendly experience even though my girlfriend and I had little experience with going to the mechanic ourselves since we are recently out of the house 20-somethings. Read all the great reviews and was looking forward to getting a quote and bring in my 04 LS430 with Aisin A761E 6 speed for a transmission fluid drain & fill. Browsed LS430 owners forum on ClubLexus, majority of owners recommended against a transmission flush and recommended a drain & fill.When I called, the receptionist kept telling me about pump and fill and that Im getting hanged up on vocabularies. I asked whether I could call back later and speak with a tech at his/her convenience to clarify whether this would be a flush or a drain a fill. The receptionist told me all techs are busy.I tried to explain to her that a machine pump and fill sounds like a flush, which is not what Im looking for. The receptionist then lost her patience and asked me where Im calling from, at which point the pointlessness of my attempt for clarification was apparent and I ended the call.Its ok if receptionist isnt familiar with the differences between a transmission flush and drain & fill. Id be very happy if she could recognize perhaps theres more to the topic, take down my question, ask a tech on a break and get back to me.Had high hopes for this place.

Came in to replace a passenger side mirror on my Prius. Straightforward smooth transaction. Months later, installed and balanced 4 new tires with alignment. Driving local it felt fine, but once I got on the highway over 60mph, my car felt wobbly. I called to explain the situation and they had me come in right away. Luckily I am less than 10 minutes away and the mechanic took it for a ride to make sure the vehicle was safe. He did this with about 3 other customers waiting on their cars so I felt they made time to make my safety a priority. He told me it was safe and to break in the tires for a 1k miles and then check back with him. At that point, Ive only driven the new tires for 300 miles. He was right. After 700, the tires were fully broken in and now they feel great. I was truly impressed by how they stand by their work. They didnt charge me to look over my car again. That definitely builds trust.

I was restoring an old 3000gt that was rotting for more than 5 years. This crew brought my baby back to life. Gt Japanese provided great service and expertise.These people were there every step of the way. I am out of state and they helped coordinate the toe and delivery of my car to the shop. I had some performance parts I wanted to install too.With little notice this shop was able to get my car road worthy and I was able to drive my car from Edison to Chicago straight from the shop.I would recommend this shop to any of my family and friends.

I bought a set of wheels and tires from GT automotive for an insanely good deal. Not only did they give me a great deal, they even balance, mounted, and programmed the tpms sensors to the truck. This is a family owned, reliable auto shop. I started going there several years ago, when my aging 2003 Tacoma needed repairs. I trust Bill and his team so much that my 2016 Subaru has never seen any other shop than GT Automotive.We need more shops like this one, because dealer service departments are all about up-selling these days.

They will work with you and help you to save money.My side mirror swings freely and doesnt stop at the usual position. Other shop quoted me $700 to replace the entire mirror, but GT Automotive helped me to put screws inside the mirror housing for a price of $120.The mechanic, Kun was so thoughtful and professional, he helped to tape the mirror to hold it in place temporarily before my appointment.My car went in with a light of low tire pressure and I didnt expect them to check/fill the air for my tires. When I picked up my car, the mirror was fixed and my tires are all good to go!This shop is going to be my to-go place from now on and I highly recommend this place!

Bill Gill took personal responsibility for the repairs of my 07 Hyundai Vera Cruz. The brake system and front struts were 100% shot. Just recently brought my Mazdaspeed3 in to GT Auto for a complete clutch and flywheel replacement. Bill gave me a very competitive price on what looked to be an intricate job that would take quite a while, lower than several other shops I reached out to. He had my clutch replaced along with several other maintenance jobs performed in less than 1.5 days. Needless to say I was quite nervous about how the job would turn out as this is a pretty complex job on a pretty complex car. All in all I could not be any happier in the job GT Auto did for me. Its been about four days so far since having the car back and the clutch feels perfect. I would absolutely recommend GT Japanese Auto for your repair needs, big or small. One thing I will also mention is do not mistake Bills professional, strictly business personality for anything but that. I could see how one might think his personality is a little dull or blunt but he is actually quite a nice guy and just a professional whos been doing this for many many years and you couldnt ask for more in a mechanic or shop owner. Based on my first experience with this shop, Id give it 5 stars for sure. Credit to the mechanics as well as they did a hell of a job on my car.

He tells you what needs to be done, why, and how. They do not try to sell you anything you dont need and are the only place I would trust to take my car.

I have been going to GT Automotive for over 15 years. I have always found them very honest and dependable. They have gone above and beyond in providing excellent service, and they are very straightforward and informative. Its unfortunate to see that the most likely people to write reviews are those who had a single bad experience. I always buy used Toyota Camrys, which are excellent, and they have done a great job to make them last. I service my cars with them regularly and have never had even a flat tire. All of my experiences with GT have been positive.They will tell you about parts that are wearing out or worn out, but it is your call if you want to replace them and they will give you the low-down on that. They told me that I had problems with my rear struts last year, which I knew was the case, but they said I could take care of it later if I wanted to wait. The problem finally annoyed me enough (especially when I hit bumps with the back tires) that I decided to take care of it. It was definitely a good call.One time I had a minor accident with my car where I did a 360 on ice and sliced the front fender on a large rock on the side of the road which grazed across it as I spun past. I was planning to replace that car soon anyway, and so I was reluctant to fix the problem, short of taping it up. But they offered an elegant solution, using unobtrusive plastic loops to hold the fender together really well and not unattractively. No charge for that. It was really nice of them.My favorite story about their honesty came one day when I was sitting in the waiting room while they were doing an oil change and some other work for me. A fellow came in to say that there was some problem with his car because he sometimes felt light-headed while driving it and that maybe there was some problem with carbon monoxide. They did a series of tests, including a test drive and tests with the car running for a while, but they could not duplicate the problem. I think they spent about at least an hour on his car -- he was there most of the time I was. In the end, rather than telling him there was some problem that they could fix and charging him, they said there was no problem found. He was disappointed, but when he asked how much that was they said, No charge. We found no problem. You could easily imagine a less scrupulous repair shop inventing a problem just to satisfy him and make a little money. After he left I joked with the owner that sometimes the problems are not in our cars but in ourselves. I think Shakespeare said that.Highly recommended.
I have a been a customer of GT for over 20 years. I have found them to be honest, reliable and forthright. Every time I have had any of my cars serviced there the job has been right the first time. GT Japanese is a much better resource than the dealer. Bill has always been there for me and my family. They do there best to get the job done in a timely manner, work cant rushed if you rush then quality is sacrificed. I will never go anywhere else.

They are among the most honest, straightforward, knowledgeable, reliable, and conscientious mechanics I have ever met.I see some bad reviews, and can only imagine their writers arent realistic or are in a rush, so they arent happy with what they hear. Or they are unwilling to accept that for tricky problems, mechanics cannot predict what theyll face when they open up the engine or other parts. But I find GT conservative and thoughtful in addressing problems, communicating well in describing the situation and my options.

Im a second generation of customer of GT, making me a customer for 32 years. I havent always lived in New Jersey but all but one of my cars that I have ever owned has been serviced by GT. The knowledge, integrity, and enthusiasm of GT for doing the job right is something I have not experienced with any other mechanic in any place Ive ever lived. Two of my cars have gone over 200,000 miles with GTs service (one of them over 300,000), GT has completely refurbished engines, resuscitated dead cars with new engines - there is nothing they arent capable of. If repairs dont stick, theyve fixed them for me free of charge and with no aggravation. Highest recommendation for GT for all things automotive!
Left spare parts in the engine. Did not re-attach all parts they took out. Unable to find color matched parts. Just look around the place. The business is not taken care of and thats probably how they will treat your car.
As the owner of Gt Automotive I would like write a rebuttal to Mike K review. We are not dishonest or try to mislead when estimating repairs. He has a 2000 Honda Civic with 213,000 miles. He asked for a labor only quote to install his timing belt and water pump that he will supply. We installed his parts, charging exactly what we quoted. He failed to supply the coolant needed with the water pump, so he needed to use ours for $14.00.When he picked up the car the ac was not working. After checking the ac system we tapped on the compressor & it started to work. The compressor was starting to seize due to old age & high mileage, not because we replaced the belt. He asked for a labor only price to install a new compressor that he will supply. When he asked about the freon my exact response was as long as the freon in your system is full we will recycle and reuse it and there will be no charge for any additional freon. He failed to tell me that he had the system checked several weeks before and was told by another mechanic that the system was low on freon then. He probably had the system checked because the compressor was starting to go bad at that time. Since he did not supply any freon with the compressor to completely fill the system, we needed to use ours to finish the job. Again, he was charged exactly the labor quoted to install his part.We have been here almost 30 years and have an excellent reputation and would like to keep it that way.Bill

Just recently did a jdm engine swap with gt automotive. Talked to Kun a few times gave me some tips on what to look for when picking a engine /transmission. He was very patient. Dropped the car and engine off Saturday and got it back Tuesday and it has been running smoothly so far. I would definitely be going back regularly.
DO NOT go to GT Automotive, unless you want to spend a huge amount of money on replacing irrelevant parts or just change oil. They cant find the key problem when your car goes wrong. Once they told me there was oil leakage, I spent 600 bucks but the problem is still there. Recently, my car had a starting problem, they asked me to replace the radiator and belt, which cost me nearly $700! But I still cant start my car the next day, I called AAA and they found the starter is broken. I went to another store, and it turned out the starter was the real problem.

GT was recommended by my father in law years ago. When our family moved to Warren County, NJ in 2005, I continued to make the 85 mile round trip drive to GT because I have complete faith in them.Bill is up front with the cost of service and even lets me know what can be done at a later time.I changed a flat during a bitter cold night this past winter and didnt stow away the tire changing kit.When I picked the car up, all of the tools and gear were stowed away perfectly as if nothing happened.I remember it was a really busy weekend and I appreciated that extra service as it was one less thing I needed to do.Thank you Bill and Lynn and the rest of the staff for taking care of our vehicles for all of these years.

I have only positive things to say about GT Japanese Auto. Inc. In fact, I implicitly trust Bill and his fantastic crew. He will never sell you a product that he himself would not use and will never try to sell you something that you dont need. His first concern is safety and reliability.I speak from 10 years of experience as a customer at GT--for both my car and my wifes.Regardless of what Bill and his mechanics (Kun and another Bill, et al) are doing--a routine oil change or a major service--they do not have tunnel vision; instead, they are careful to look holistically at the car. You will not have any surprise breakdowns on the highway, because even if the crew are changing a muffler, they might still catch a belt that is about to go. Thats just it: they are thorough. Perhaps that is why my 24-year-old Honda never had any breakdowns and always ran smoothly. In fact, I just got a new Honda and entrusted Bill to sell my old Honda. I got rid of it reluctantly, since the engine was in AMAZING shape; its just that the body was starting to rust out. He was able to get me hundreds of dollars more for my car than the Honda dealer would have given me, mostly because the car still drove beautifully and the motor and moving parts ran smoothly.One last thing: the counter and phone service are also very personalized and professional. Whether I get Bill or Lynn at the front desk (and now, I believe, Julie, who is new), I am never rushed and always treated with respect and friendliness.People use the word honest sometimes with automotive service, but with GT, honesty isnt the best policy; its their ONLY policy.Keep up the good work, GT.

I had been going to them for my oil changes and when I came in for my next oil service with GT Automotive, they told me my oil pan plug was stripped and I would have to pay for it. They didnt want to accept or acknowledge that they were the culprit or remotely responsible for this costly repair and simply expected me to accept it.

Absolute worst shop in the area. Dishonest, lazy, and unprofessional. Vehicle was given to shop for alignment first time. No bolts were tightened past finger tight, as a result alignment was undone upon lowering of car, and first drive. Second time, front bolts were tightened, rear was left undone, cause major damage to both rear tires as well as strut housing. Attempted to speak with shop owner/supervisor for resolution, only received illogical, and impossible explanation of faulty hardware.DO NOT USE.
They mounted a tire on a rim for me at a great price and really quick service, I was very happy, and Im going to go back so they can mount my other tire

I have been taking my familys many Hondas and Toyotas to GT Japanese Automotive for over 30 years (!!!) and I am very satisfied with their fine service and reasonable prices. The friendly staff has always gone above and beyond to be helpful and fair. Heres a great example: I also own a Ford Mustang, and I had a blowout on I-78. So I went to Fullerton Ford (where I bought the car) because they displayed a sign saying we sell tires and will beat any prices. When Fullerton quoted over $200 to replace the original tire, I decided to ask GT if they could get the same tire. GTs price was HALF what Fullerton Ford wanted for the same original tire! When I told Fullerton this, they told me to take my car and my tire and never come back. I am not making this up! When GT replaced the tire, they were also willing to change my oil and filter (although my Mustang is not Japanese) and guess what. The service was also HALF the price of that service at Fullerton Ford!

If I could give more than 5 stars for a shop like GT Auto, I would. My brand new WRX unfortunately suffered flood damage and the engine had hydrolocked and the entire interior was flooded. I spoke with Bill and Kun and both were provided amazing service and attention to not only myself to make sure all my concerns were addressed, but most importantly, to my brand new Subaru. Kun had always kept me updated on the progress of my car and went out of his way to send me pictures of the damages and even showed me what the damage caused to the engine and ensured that everything that was caused by the incident was assessed properly and professionally. From the electrical, the carpet, and most importantly the engine, they were able to ensure everything was as good as new and worked very quickly to get things assessed and repaired for me while still paying attention to the smallest details such as making sure no wiring harnesses had reminents of corrosion to prevent potential problems in the future. They even gutted the interior to make sure all the mud and dirt was detailed from all the panels and underneath the carpet padding and had the carpet replaced and a new block installed. I must say that I could not have been any happier with a shop, and have never dealt with a place that actually cared for my car as much as they would if it was their own. Ive had terrible experiences in the past with shops in the area and now I finally have found a mechanic who I can trust and be assured that I am not getting cheated. Thank you Kun and everyone ar GT Auto for the amazing service and care that youve all given to for my car. I was hesitant to take my WRX to a shop at first because of the boxer engine but the guys here sure know what they are doing and the results show. Ill sure be back here again for any work I need to be done in the future and recommend this place to all my friends.

I’ve been bringing my cars to GT Automotive for over twenty-five years. Bill, the owner, and his team are honest, dependable, trustworthy and extremely knowledgeable. Based on the initial recommendation of a friend, I started bringing my new 1990 Nissan Maxima to GT for normal mileage maintenance. At the time, I worked about 15 minutes away which was very convenient and the service and repairs were always thorough, reliable and done in a professional and courteous manner. Just as an example, I brought my car in for a 30K mile service. When I returned to pick it up, I fully expected to pay the price that was listed for that service. The bill was less than the listed price and Bill explained to me that some of the items in that service were not just based on mileage but age and since I put a lot of miles in a short period of time, I didn’t need all that work done. Well, I no longer work in the area (and haven’t for the last 21 years). I live about 50 minutes away from GT, but I continue to take the 1.5 to 2 hour round trip drive to bring my cars to Bill for repairs, tires and maintenance, even for oil changes because I know everything will be checked and he will inform me of upcoming maintenance when it’s really needed. I’ve gone through a few cars since I started with GT. That first 1990 Maxima went 360K miles thanks to GT and was still running when I donated it. Incidentally, Bill keeps a few white boards in the reception area with the make, model, year, mileage and owner’s name of customer cars that have over 200K miles and are still in service. It’s an impressive list! My son has a 1996 Nissan Maxima on that list with over 250K miles and I currently own a 2011 Nissan Maxima and 2011 Nissan Murano which I’m sure will eventually make the list under GT’s care.
