Beautiful guitars, but the Hammond organs werent in functional condition.
The best guitar store in town. The employees are eager to help and they sell quality items with a nice selection. The employers are very knowledgable too. Not much more you could want from a store.
Rude. Its a weird thing to go into a guitar store and play several guitars looking for the the one, ready to spend 1k$ and be asked by the owner if youre going to buy anything or just touch everything. Hes local and old-school, which is what the extra star is for, but definitely not recommended.
Didnt spend too much time there, but had a great conversation with knowledgeable people. Their guitar inventory looks awesome, too. Ill have to spend more time there.
Pretty awesome store. Really great guys that run this place and theyre FULL of knowledge. Their breadth and scope is pretty impressive and their walls always have some real gems hanging on em!
I had fun, my friends play guitar and they were playing on some of the guitars, while I listened. The shop keeper was very informed, but also friendly. (Not something you always see). Overall its a very nice spot.
Charlie does great work. Super knowledgeable staff and friendly as well! Highly recommended. If you need a luthier Charlie should be your stop here in Eugene.
I have always had the most professional, courteous & useful interactions with the staff of this store. The sell high-end guitars but have always been willing to help with even the most low-end questions & services.
Love those guys, Great service, also they are supportive of my Friends at Gophers Music Gear; Those are my two Music Shops In Downtown Eugene 😊🎸🏠🎠
Knowledgeable owner that is passionate about putting out quality instruments. Higly recommend. Great knowing there are honest and respectable places like this in the neighborhood.
Great music store where we found and bought a mandolin for my wife. The staff was extremely helpful and patient and knowledgeable. Also, they are following Covid-19 guidelines. Thank you!
The bald guy in there really seems to be looking for the money only, he doesn’t care about you as a customer, he only cares about the money in your pocket.
Always give me excellent servicing on my equipment! I trust them with my most trusted guitars.
Charlie is very knowledgeable.
My husband went to this shop yesterday. He was looking to buy a part for his guitar. The owner stood there and lectured my husband about how you cant buy these, you have to have it special made. When my husband stated that he was surprised that they didnt carry the nut and saddle part especially since you can buy it is online, the owner became even more rude, going as far as chasing my husband and young child out of the store. Seriously!!! And then he continued to follow my husband and child out while yelling about politics....yes, REALLY this happened. My husband said the guy just snapped! Politics....really?! Come on, my husband just wanted to fix his guitar : (After reading the reviews on here (the authentic ones) I can see that my husband wasnt the first to be verbally assaulted, but the worst part was MY 5 YEAR OLD CHILD was part of this mans negativity. Honestly, I cant believe this guy is still in business.
I always have a good experience here when I am helped out by Mark. My father has gotten quite ill with dementia over the years and still plays guitar. Sometimes its challenging to help him because I dont play, but Mark is so kind and helpful and patient and helps make the experience for me easier.
A great shop for all things guitar but definitely not your place for any other instruments
Great store, had everything I needed and the staff was amazingly helpful and friendly.
Expensive and not much in way of customer service, asked about buying a Gibson...went and ordered one elsewhere.
The owner of McKenzie River talked me out of buying a guitar from his store which I would not have been happy with. Very nice to have an owner who is so passionate about music they would be willing sacrifice their own sales! I’m thrilled with my new purchase. With that type of honesty, you’re sure to have a roaring business.
Dont waste your time unless you have $$$ Third time Ive been in here and he always makes me feel unwelcome. Last time he was upset because I moved a drum stool. Thats not for sale**Update after owner made snide remark about sign clearly being posted: sign was irrelevant as I moved the stool back after tripping on it. Dude clearly has some anger issues. Be warned.
I went in with a friend who was looking for an inexpensive used bass amp. They didnt have much along those lines but they had a bunch of amps that needed repairs or that were just for parts. In the background I couldnt help but overhear the person who worked there (maybe the owner) lecturing a few customers about the varying levels of quality that one could expect from an instrument in corrollation to its price. He sounded very arrogant.I remembered that Ive been meaning to get a piece of grill cloth for one of my amps so I asked him if they had any. Im not real picky, I just wanna put new grill cloth on it. The guy pointed some out and told me that it was fancy, that I didnt want it. What a salesman! I asked him how he would know what I do or dont want, bade him a rotten day and left the store.Ive been going to guitar stores for 32 years, long enough to have been condescended upon by guys like that a bunch of times. In direct contrast, the guys at the buy and sell center a few blocks away were friendly and helpful. Ill just go there from now on.
Terrible customer service, being new to town my 18 year old son wanted to find a new guitar store. He’s been playing since he was in grade school and owns several guitars already. When he walked in(with a face mask per rules) the owner took 1 look at his long hair and I guess you could say rockstar look and asked him “what do you need “ my son replied he was just looking at the moment and the guy told him to leave he didn’t have time for people to be looking around. We will be purchasing several more guitars in the future but will never go back there.
Awesome place if you like music Guitar Tuning And whatever else that he may have for sale Good place
Nice shop, repair guy wasnt in . Unable to help me .
Ive dropped by a handful of times since I started playing guitar in 2000. The selection is not for me but I know that if I was in the market to buy equipment I would most likely come here. I have never dug into their expertise but feel like I dont need to. I play harder music, very distorted. The shop obviously carries a lot of uppity brands and vintage guitars that arent suited to my style or pocket book. The shop isnt trying to focus on everyone, which is their own rite. The staff has always been helpful and informative. They most likely get a lot of tire kickers and lookers. The older crowd most likely does a lot of the purchasing here and they have formed some good relationships with that crowd. Its a mature shop for mature people. Cant knock it for what it is. Still a great shop and someone who takes their craft seriously, Eugene needs them.
Best place in town to buy a guitar. They have a good selection of vintage guitars and amps and some great non-vintage gear as well. They have a small room to demo gear at volume and an experienced luthier on site. Even the less expensive guitars are very playable and nicely put together.
Rude. I’m socked they get any business
Great customer service! I appreciated their help in selecting the right banjo picks, only store in my area that had them in stock.
I went in 10 minutes before closing to look for a lap steel. They didnt have one in my price range, but the guy behind the counter was happy to answer my questions, and even told me what to look for and avoid if I buy a used one online. Excellent service, even after it was clear I couldnt afford anything. Beautiful shop. Knowledgeable clerk. Ill definitely go back when I have the scratch.
Best selection of fine gear for miles. I spent a considerable amount of time here (2hrs) shopping for a high end acoustic (over $2.5K). I traveled over 600 miles to hit every guitar store in my path to find the guitar. Staff here was very accommodating. I would say above and beyond. I needed to compare different models and put them to the test. This meant playing them loud enough to see where/if they would choke out when strummed to their max. Not a real pleasant thing to hear on a 2K instrument in a refined show room such as theirs. But, if you are going to spend over 2 grand on a guitar you should know its weaknesses as well as strengths. They kindly set me up in a sound booth and brought in all the guitars I requested then several recommended and let me go at it for hours. I ended up going with a Custom Shop guitar direct from Martin in the end. Long story short. This is one of the premier stores in Oregon. Expect the best and expect a higher level of sophisticated staff in both sense of the word. Make no mistake if you are a kid banging on the guitars this may not be the store for you. If you are a seasoned player who needs to bang on thousand dollar instruments to understand their strengths/weaknesses they are more than happy to accommodate with a nice room to boot.
Very helpful and my axe no longer buzzes. The shop is beautiful and well organized. The stock is excellent and wide in variety.
Ive been going to them since I was a kids. Nothing has changed, they are wonderful people.
Great shop, very understanding of me being a beginner. Charlie is a wizard with repairs, took an old Fender in to him for help since it had sat in a closet for going on 30 years. He had it a few weeks and it came back in wonderful condition and working great.
I had yet another fantastic experience buying a guitar at MRM. Thanks Artie!
By far the best guitar shop in Oregon. Wide selection of premium brands, as well as standout vintage guitars and amps. The staff is incredibly helpful, and relaxed. They appreciate good tone and know their stuff. Make a stop in!
Great staff. Great vibe. Beautiful and comfortable layout with a lot of fine guitars and a tryout room. Mark was great and didnt pressure me, talked about options, and steered me in the right direction.
Owner is unpleasant, to say the least. Got a better deal at Guitar Center.
Went in to grab some new bass strings, walked out with a plethora of awesome information. Mark was very welcoming, and answered all of my noobie bass questions. Dont even step foot in a guitar center until you see these guys
The kid that works there was helpful. I had a somewhat negative experience with the owner. First he told me that it didnt matter whether the used amp he was selling was a re-issue or not. Then he tried to convince me that the strings I needed for my instruments were not the strings I needed and that he knew better what I should use. When I tried to return an item with a receipt I was told they only offer store credit which made me feel that they were trying to monopolize my business.
Pretentious. The guys who run the store have no idea how to talk to thier customers. Basically argued with me after i complimented his store after explaining i was new town and was impressed with the quality of selection. Made me feel very uncomfortable because i didnt have $2500 for an acoustic guitar. Dont shop here unless you are the best musician on the planet. And even then, bring your chops. Not going back. Only place in eugene i have felt less than welcome.
I was in the market for a new guitar and wanted to check out what they had in stock (been to the store years ago and had a great experience with the staff at the time), only to find some bitter, sarcastic salesperson behind the counter lobbing jokes at my expense. I did my best to ignore the guy and look around. Then I remembered I needed to get some picks and strings before I headed out. Of course, Mr. Personality was at the counter and proceeded to comment Thats all youre buying? Gee, thanks for coming in.I was polite with the staff, didnt ask for anything other than to check out what they had in stock (none was offered anyway), and I was treated disrespectfully by some misanthrope. My advice: spend your hard-earned cash elsewhere.
The worker was extremely rude and rushed us out the door and didnt care about what we where looking and asked us to shop online and the worst part was the worker was the actual owner of the store.😠 put a sign if yall want us to shop online.
Ive worked for Guitar Center, LA Music & Sam Ash, so theres my validation. Im also an experienced musician. I lived in Southern California for years now. I visited MRM through ads I saw in Vintage Guitar magazine. These guys are Pros & if U want some of the best in either new or used, theres no better place to pick up a fine instrument or amp, IMHO!Keep on Rockin in the Free World!
Lots of good instruments, strings, picks, and other accessories, as well as friendly and helpful employees. This place and the Guitar Center make Eugene a great place for guitar-players.
This store is fairly large, a lot of big names and some higher quality makes/customs. Great selection if your in the market for quality or vintage. Staff is friendly, especially Erik. Always ready and willing to help you make a purchase based off what need/want without much personal preference input unless you ask him. Note this isnt guitar center. Youll be pressed to find that 150 dollar Chinese Fender copy. When I say Vintage I mean 40 to 70s guitars. As for the way staff treats costumers, never had an issue or remark that offended me in any way.
The employees seem fairly indifferent to the customers (do people in Oregon not know anything about customer service?). I dont know if its ego or intimidation like some have suggested--it may just be social retardation like so many others round these parts. The luthier (Charlie) does great work but is INCREDIBLY overpriced. I only do warranty work through him. Everything else will likely cost more than the guitar is worth. Go elsewhere unless money is not a concern.I love their selection of vintage instruments but their prices are ridiculous. Ill play their guitars but would buy elsewhere. I did buy one new guitar there but their used are way overpriced.I too am now looking at going back to Guitar Center with their lowbrow employees and questionable products. But thats for another review.
Thank You for fixing my old guitar so FAST and fair price.
Very friendly staff. Usually the owner is in the shop. They let you play any of the instruments. I found a great bass guitar there.
Nice place fair prices .helpful employee owners.organized clean store.they answered my questions politely .
Best store to buy vintage guitars and amps in the area. They have new instruments as well. Knowledgeable staff.
Ive never physically been to the shop, but bought two instruments from them via telephone. The customer service was outstanding, and it was nice to know the people on the other end knew what they were talking about.Clint and Artie were both a pleasure to deal with.
Probably one of my favorite, if not favorite, music store in Oregon. They have an eclectic selection of high end acoustics, electrics, and amps. But, what makes McKenzie different and special, is their selection of vintage gear. For instance, I played a 1947 Martin that was just stellar! Very nice and knowledgeable staff too! If youre in the market for high end guitars like Collings, Martin, Suhr, and vintage Supro, this is a great place visit! Highly recommend!
Weirdo.
I dont like to say negative things, but this store turns me off in person, and on the phone. When I first went in the store just to buy some strings, I asked for some info on a line they carry, and the person there seems bothered to even offer any. Are they trying to sell? If you dont like the GC, like me, you dont like hard-sell...these folks are the opposite end of the spectrum. Dont ask, dont tell seems to be their motto. Then, looking for a Les Paul, the person on the phone seemed very difficult to speak with, had a very negative, seemingly elitist attitude.I wanna keep my bucks in town, but in Eugene, that is very difficult.
The owner (Artie?)was extremely helpful and was able to work out a great deal that was mutually beneficial for both of us.
What can I say...its the best guitar and amp store in Eugene. Ive bought electric guitars, both vintage and new from them, as well as steel string acoustics and nylon stringed classical guitars. They have a great selection of new and used guitars, as well as mandolins and vintage guitars and ukuleles. The best thing about the store is that when you are trading in gear, the store owner always tells you how much he is able to pay for used gear, and tells you what he thinks he can sell it for, and why he is offering the amount he is for your gear. Its been my experience that they pay more for used guitars and amps than Guitar Center. They have a knowledgeable staff, and a luthier right upstairs. Most of their inventory is really high quality, high end gear. This is not Guitar Center. You wont be disappointed with the selection. And you wont have some adolescent punk trying to pressure you into buying. They try to hook you up with the right guitar, the best guitar, in your specified price range. I have got some incredible deals from them over the years. And they always treat me right when I go in. They sell Suhr, Tom Anderson, Collings, Martin, Eastman....the list goes on and on.I would highly recommend them.
Great shop! Always ready to help the customer.
Interesting selection of gear. Less annoying atmosphere than Guitar Center but also a bit more snobby. But hey thats why I keep going back.
I usually dont write reviews, but I felt inclined to tell people about the poor treatment I recived. I think its the owner; the bald guy with glasses. He was incredibly patronizing and mean. I dont understand what his deal is. Whenever I had a question his response was vicious and condescending. Im never going back. Go to buy and sell further east on 11th ave. The guy has issues.
Great selection of vintage guitars and gear
Its the kind of a small music shop but great service
Lovely store, great staff, and selection.
Has some cool guitars! Staff was helpful.
The absolutely best selection of top of the line guitars in Eugene!
Very helpful and had just what I needed.
Great selection of acoustic and electric guitars!
Good service knowledgeable friendly good place
Treated me fair. No complaints.
I have to counter the previous review with the simple observation that a substantial amount of floorspace toward the rear of the store is dedicated to a room for playing instruments and amplifiers. Not only does McKenzie River Music carry some of the finest guitars built during the past century (albeit with a price tag reflecting the fact), but their staff if knowledgable and willing to assist with questions. Eric is always particularly helpful in my experience, and the house luthier, Charlie Longstreth, is a top-notch craftsman.
Were very rude and nasty when I tried to buy $20 tuners. Will never recommend this place to anyone.
Respectable place, high prices, but excellent instruments!
Fantastic shop, excellent service
Staff is laid back and polite.. Prices Are retail...
Good selection and some unique items.
Beautiful guitars, very pricey, very nice owner
I Guess I wasnt dressed well enough to get a can I help you?
Expensive, but extremely good selection of amazing instruments!
High end quality acoustic guitars
Awesome guitars and amps!
Super helpful staff
Cool place
Fast service great selection
The owner redicules everyone trying to sell an instrument.
Old sale tactics
Rude!!!! Sorry for the inconvenience.
Nice selection.
Great service!
Great Selection
Knowledgeable staff
