JJ Cafe is still great as ever! Most places have reduce their quality, portion, and/or service. Not this place. Steak was as I remembered and the quality was really good, medium. The baked seafood was more seafood than rice which is rare and the sauce was really tasty. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. I am glad one of my favorites is still great despite the pandemic.
Arrived at 1030 was told theyll only do takeout. Which is fine but when the place is listed as closing at 12pm... They should change the closing time. I wouldve gone somewhere else for the night.I ordered take out. 1 short rib tasted like it went bad and had a really funky ammonia smell and taste the other meat was fine. The food wasnt worth the price and the questionable meat makes you wonder if they were serving expired meat. I do understand that with pandemic things are hard but things shouldnt fall this low.
After the server put down the food, he never came back to check on you. So, he did not refill the water. He did not come to give me the check even though I put a $20 bill on the table in a very visible position that anyone can see. I dont know what the server(s) were doing; whatever they did, they were not serving customers.
Super fast service super chill waiter any problems fixed it right away. Price good food great dine in or take out super solid spot
Good HK-style food at reasonable priceAlso one of the few places that stay open till late night
I started coming here 20 years ago and it’s still my favorite casual hk style cafe. They have a big menu, you can come here for 30 days straight and order different types of good delicious dishes everyday. It’s open till 4am 7 days a week, I could just drop in anytime I like. JJ Thanks for all those years, I really appreciate this place, I’ve had so much good foods and memories here!
One of the best late night HK cafes in 626! Friendly staff and great quality food.
Food was delicious. Ordered the Minced Beef with Egg over Rice. Food came out piping hot in 10 minutes, and tasted delicious. Highly recommended for that late night craving.
Great food and service. Good sized plates and reasonable prices.
This is one of fav places for the breakfast and lunch specials. They give you a giant drink and one refill along with the dish. I recommend the coffee there, sooooo good!Their customer service is professional and top tier as well.
These foods taste good. But fork was dirty and oily. So I have felt uncomfortable at first. Although flavor is ok, feeling never be changed.
Affordable a d decent comfort Hong Kong dining!
Great lunch specials with great milk tea. The prices are some of the best around!
The food was Gucci but out of a party of 8 my BLT sandwich shouldnt have been the last plate out but in the meantime my wifes escargot was great and the crab/mussels thingy was something I will have again and again & btw who ever designed and created the menus need & deserve a raise 👏👏👍👍
Open from 7am-4am, that means you will never go hungry. I like their afternoon tea menu - limited options but good. I had the pan-fried turnip cake, crispy on the outside with intense flavors from the minced pork, satay sauce, dried shrimp and green onion. Heavy on carbs so consider sharing with others. ;) The beef brisket was cooked perfectly. Free milk/lemon tea or coffee refills. Plenty of parking spots.
Very stable name in cafe food in Monterey Park area. Could be really crowded on weekends, especially brunch and lunch time. Theres parking behind the cafe, but not too many spots. If that area is full, theres always street parking. People come here for the food, not for the service or the cleanliness.
1) extensive service hrs from 7 am to 4 am2) extremely affordable and huge portion tasty HK cafe style dishes3) if you come between 7 am to 11 am, each item comes with a drink which you can choose between coffee and good HK milk tea.Folks if you decide to go, take it into perspective- don’t compare this to your $100/pp meal. For that’s you are paying for and the HK cafe vibe, it’s a good spot to hit, regardless you are a local or from out of town. #1 on the menu, steak with egg and toast is a steal. It used to be 7.50, and now 8.50.The HK milk tea is legit! This place brings so much good memories of HK/ Cantonese cafe back home. Will def come again.
Been going to this restaurant at least once per werk for years!!! I stopped going here in the recent years because the prices became too high.I recently went here to buy fried rice because of the epidemic. It was nice and empty. Service was fast while I waited outside for the cooks. I ordered Western style fried rice. One of my favorite dishes here!!! The food was so hot that the steam coming from the bag was burning my fingers while holding the bag. There was plastic/styrofoam chips in my fried rice. The bottom of my boxes had HUGE cracks in them; I think the intense exposure to the heat and weight of the foods caused the boxes to become brittle and crack while sitting on top of soup containers. Its not a severe problem, I got home and flipped the box upside down onto a dish after getting several bites of plastic bits. The spoon scooping had enough force to just chip polymer bits off.I dont know why but I got 15% off my order before I even took a bite. Get the discount from here before it goes away 😋🤤 Great food, Id order it again during the shutdown and see if the problem still persists but the solution is to flip it into a dish.
Thats one of the best places to get affordable Hong Kong dishes.
Their taro milkshake is really good!!! Worth ordering that drink again. Ordered their grilled pork chops with mushroom sauce as a late-night dinner with friends. Some parts of the chops were tasty, while the other parts were a bit on the dry side. The mushroom sauce is okay, not too salty and worth dipping your chops into when its too dry. And that side pasta that comes with the pork chops, its nothing to go wild about. Even if I was drunk, I could make better spaghetti than that! LOL!!
Such a variety to choose from...nice staff
After all these years still good as ever but please be patient as covid recovery there is shortage of kitchen and restaurant workers so it might take longer than usual to get your food or check.
I like chicken stake here.Feels like homemade food.Good for lunch!
Regular Hong Kong style cafe, decent food and price.
Open till midnight daily. Good place for late night dinner 😀
Food was just fine. The service was horrible. They literally threw the plate on our table.
Foods are tasty nice clearn comfortable place to eat
It doesnt close at 4am they have a new time they close Monday-Thursday at 11pm Friday/Saturday close at 12am
This place hit the spot for late night hunger sessions.
Call ahead orders ready for pick up in about 20mins. Seafood chow mein with crispy noodle, fried squid w spicy salt, and indo fried rice are my go to.
Its been here forever. I used to frequent it when I was a young lad. I still go once a whole with a friend to eat, chit chat and lay idle for a while.
Great hong kong style dishes. Great and friendly service. Love this place too bad so far from my house lol
Absolutely under the mark of acceptance. The Congee had a spoiled or rotting kind of tast. Like the first time I went .......was not impressed and simply hope to survive. Prerogative not to return is exercised.
My fav spot for asian food. This place is absolutely one of my favorites. It has a good atmosphere.
Still the best in town.
Great place for some inexpensive comfort food. The porridge, the noodle soup, and the steak and eggs were all very good. And theyre all great considering the value. Only tried it for the first time recently, but will definitely be coming back.
During this particular time, the wait can be pretty long so make sure you order in advance of 30+ minutes. Cash is king but they take credit as well. I ordered the baked bolognese pasta and it was great! Highly recommended.
It is just a disgusting Chinese restaurant that has Greed for money only no customer satisfaction I would not recommend it to anybody during this pandemic time they should keep the doors closed rather than trying to grab every penny they can thats how disgusting they are
I arrived at 11PM and was told they close at 11:30PM.
I usually only come here at ungodly hours after a night out with friends. The food is good and they serve pretty quickly even when they are full house or close. Dont hesitate to flag servers down if you need help because they will be too busy to provide five star service. Theyll try to get as much done as fast as they can so dont expect a smile from them 😉
Tasty food
You know what, Ive been here so often I must write a review for them. Its not an exceptional place, you see, if youve grown up around other Hong Kong/Cantonese-style Cafes. The food can be oily, the plates are a little messy, and nothing here is... mindblowing. So why the five stars? Because its GOOD. It fills a niche only a Hong Kong-style cafe can, and it does so spectacularly. It is a walking stereotype, a cultural icon here in the San Gabriel Valley in beyond. Those familiar with establishments such as these will find themselves longing for black pepper sauce, for Cantonese curry, or for freaking spaghetti smothered in mushroom sauce when away from one for too long. I am speaking from personal experience. If this is your first time, get the chicken or pork chops, and get them with spaghetti and black pepper as your sauce. If youve been to a Hong Kong style cafe before, know this: JJ Hong Kong Cafe? This is it. Youve found it. A good one. Cheap, consistent, and exactly what youre looking for.
Our favorite would be the house special fried rice, beef chow fun. New York stakes are good also. Love the lemon Ice-t. Good prices. Sometimes very busy but its worth the waiting time. Parking is a little difficult to find sometimes but other than that the food makes up for all the negatives.
Always come here for late night dinner. Place is old so not very clean. Service was okay. Food is good.
Food is pretty good here. Service is minimum. I usually order food to go. Salted fish fried rice is my favorite, one of the best in town. Lately Ive tried grilled lamp chop, and its darn relish! Not so impressed w/the soup n side veggie, as they all taste like can food...must be Microwave heat up n serve. Maybe just stick w/salty fish fried rice.
Comfort food done right 😋
They have a lot of good options, so far they havent been amazing, but they are good. I really enjoy the milk tea, its brewed strong and tasty and the Cafe refills it. I like that they have really late hours, even though theyre after my regular bedtime. Its a bad idea to drink the milk tea late, you will be up until the next dawn if you do.
Good to go hongkong style western food 👌
Your typical Hong Kong style diner with tons of selections. Food was good service was ok...... Great place for late night eating (close 3am) and group of gathering.
The souffle here is to die for. Im personally a huge fan of their dessert and Crepes. JJ Cafe is the best late-night Cafe in the area. They are super fast in the dishes come out super quickly. The menu is huge oh, and you are sure to find something you like. Its really authentic Hong kong-style so there are some funky things on the menu as well but I would stick with the fried rice the porridges and the noodle soups
I ordered the pan fried sausage with macaroni dish. It was very oily and salty. I had to them fix it, but it was still a tad too oily and salty. Their Russian Borsch soup was a tad too sweet but still good. The place looks and feels very compact. Parking is also very compact and limited. It’s not as comfortable as it used to be. Most likely won’t return. Shame. I used to love coming here for their grand mariner souffles.
Poor service. My dish came out with the wrong sauce, I told them but they changed it rudely with no apologies whatsoever. Then my drink was empty; servers brought my check, ran my card, brought it back. 3 times they never asked if I needed a refill. So I stood up and went to the bar myself, holding an empty cup. Servers walked past, stared at me, and looked away as if I was transparent. I even got up to get my own straw. Zero service = zero tips, simple as that.
Good food, reasonable price. Lunch specials come with a soup and drink. Only downside is the broth is a little on the salty side. Might want to avoid that if youre trying to eat healthier. Good variety of food
Definitely the go-to spot for after clubbing food. Most of your Staples are there as far as Hong Kong food goes. A lot of the times I order the curry there which is really good and has a unique taste. A lot of people I know will get the specials which include prime rib or different cuts of meat that seemed way under price for what they should be which makes me question a little bit how theyre getting it that price
Delicious food with great portions and a phenomenal price point. The lunch specials (11am to 3pm) cannot be beat. Try the thai tea!
Everytime i visit California i always try to stop by here becauee the food here never disappoint me
My friend and I came here really late in the night for food.We got the beef chow fun and this other rice dish. Both were good but the chow fun was really oily. I guess its expected at this place? They do give you a pretty big portion. The restaurant itself is pretty run down but the food is cheap so no high expectations there.
Decent service. Food was decent. Prices are well set. Theres underground parking. I would go back for simple indecisive Chinese food if you are not craving anything fancy.
Foods & drinks are good. Waiters & waitresses are friendly. Have been coming here forever. I believe it is time to have a make over. Needs to do better job on cleanliness. 20 hrs operation, when will they have time to clean.
The prices are fair considering the large portions you get; many menu items come with soup and a beverage. Its open daily from 7am to 4am! This place serves Hong Kong style comfort food and its almost always packed with couples and large groups, young and old, families and friends. Its not perfect. Its a bit aged. Some may even call this place a dive. And the wait can be a bit intimidating. But it must be doing something right with so many regular customers who cant get enough.
I used to come here 17 years ago... came every summer with my father for 10 years... I love their food! And they are always so nice to me when I come in. Love them! I moved out to NV and havent been able to come get some food there in a long time... my father passed away last week and as a last tribute to him, i came to this restaurant like weve done so many times before as a tradition... but i can say that i am literally obsessed and inhaled their creamy sole pasta... wish I could have ordered the baked spaghetti To go... miss this place so much! Wish I had their food here in Reno where I live now...
Great food and free refills on most drinks, my go to for late night eats!
Probably been going here since I was a kid. One of my favorite HK cafes and favorite places in Monterey Park. Parking in the back is a lot more convenient than parking on the street.
Great spot for late night grubbing in particular due to their business hours, as most mention. Solid food that is not your panda express version of Chinese food. More authentic so dont be turned off when you dont get your orange chicken. The Indio rice is always a go to. Ask for an extra egg if youre looking to get yolked!
Bad service, stone face
The most delicious kung pao dish Ive ever had!
It’s ok as a Hong Kong style cafe, foods are good but not that fast on serving. Servers wander around but seldom ask for helping.
Good food all around, awesome place to stop for a late night meal. Havent had to wait for a table since I have been going there. Good service, clean restrooms, cozy atmosphere.
This place has been around for a very long time, I only went couple times years ago. I went for lunch today, very disappointed and will never go again. It took them almost 20 minutes to realize that I am ready to order food. I had 1) Hawaiian Fried Rice 2) Stew Beef with Rice Noodles 3) Curry Beef with rice. Took another 20 minutes to have the first dish -- Hawaiian Fried Rice. The diced pineapple were bad, they were rotten and tasted sour. The waitress didnt apologize. Curry beef took another 10 minutes. When complained about the speed, the waitress stated that because every customer ordered Chinese food today and they only have two cooks for Chinese dish today. Two dishes with 3 drinks, the bill stated $25, considered the services and quality of food, I think its pricey. There are only two stalls in ladys room, one very large for wheelchair access but the other one was so tiny that my knees hit the door. The restroom was so dirty and messy, a huge roll of tissue was on the floor and it was soaked. I just wanted to get the hell out of there and never come back. I really dont know why they could stay in business for so long.
I love breakfast here. Ive been coming here since i was young. Great customer service every time. Great food.
JJs is my go to for good authentic Chinese food. My favorite dish here is their chicken fried rice but it has to be made by their evening cooks ask me why? Ive ordered it for lunch and it wasnt as tasty. They have a large menu and even have desserts and shakes such as a Taro shake which is absolutely delicious. I gave them a 4 star because sometimes the service and cleanliness isnt their forte. Well, if youre in the mood for good chinese food and in the area this is one of my favorite spots to go. Good eating peeps.
Very tasty
Absolutely love the food here! Waiting time is always short and it opens until 4am. Highly recommended.
This is your typical Hong Kong cafe. They have a mix of Chinese and Chinese inspired American food. Their brunch menu isnt bad. My favorite dish will probably be the Indonesian Fried Rice. Their service is okay, not the best and their restroom is small and dirty. Dont be surprised to find yack all over the toilet if you coming here late at night.
Surprisingly good iced coffee. We went there for breakfast and it was not bad.I ordered a steak with instant noodles and I told the waitress I wanted the steak medium. And when the order came the steak was on the noodles and soaked in the soup. Of course it was no longer a medium (more like well done). Good thing it was somewhat seasoned and most likely processed with baking soda and it was not chewy at all. Still I wish they would serve them separately. The congee and fried noodles were not bad.
On a late night, there no better place to get a great bite. Their menu is SOOO loaded that you can imagine how a place like this can make so may different dishes. From asian to European dishes. And nearly everything Ive ever ordered there come out quick. I honestly dont know how unless theyre reheating from frozen, but it all tastes too good to be frozen. Puzzled but happy that this place exists.
Small parking lot and hard to notice, otherwise its the Asian Dennys of the world. Love their mix of food and their cafe feeling with the late night service. The prices are manageable, especially given the selection of foods!
JJs is one of the few restaurants where the staff can honestly ask us the usual?. We know what our kids will actually eat though we occasionally try something different. The service is friendly, accurate and fast. The food is very good and equally important, the price is very reasonable. Dinner for 2 adults + 3 kids with plenty of leftovers for the next day is $40-$50 after tax and tip.
Awesome food! Everything is good here. Customer for over ten years.
Awesome lunch specials here (11 am to 3 pm). I usually get the grilled sole fillet or grilled chicken steak with black pepper sauce. Their Indo fried rice and smelt roe fried rice are delicious too.
Everything is good and safe here. They have an extensive menu, but the Chef is skilled and well rehearsed in many types of cuisine. From Prime pork chops, fried wings and spaghetti, Hainan chicken, wonton soup, to even Souffles with green tea ice cream added on. Anything and everything will hit that sweet spot. They have the consistency at every hour of the day. This is Always a good choice in the 626.
Their customer service is not the best but the food is great, never disappoints.
Extensive menu with very affordable prices. A great place for groups and late dining since theyre open until 4am.
This is not haute cuisine but I still love the variety of the menu and the go to feel about this place. Usually dont eat in, I order by phone and then pick up. Something about the way the inside decor is makes me not want to eat inside. I think its the temperature, sometimes its freezing inside and my food gets cold too fast. And occasionally it feels humid inside when its cold out (ew, right?). Parking is a little lacking but I can usually find some place on the street close by.
