Incredible local family owned dairy farm! Clean, environmentally friendly, and a place for kids to actually learn where milk and their favorite ice cream comes from! Take the time to watch the cows get milked, go to the petting barn, maybe even feed a baby cow! Great place for kids with special needs as well as the whole family! Very clean with hand washing stations, friendly staff, and delicious ice cream to end the day! Definitely worth the trip!

Beautiful farm experience. The cows are clearly happy and healthy. Makes you feel good to spend your money there. The sundae was HUGE, and for such a reasonable price. It was tasty, but probably too big for just one person.Only complaint is the calf feeding took a long time to start. The website was very clear that guests must arrive on time or the calf feeding will start without them. We got there early, then ended up waiting 20 minutes past the start time because the farm staff was still setting it up. There were also very few chairs and limited shade. Not a big deal for adults, but for little ones, I would recommend bringing lots of water and sunscreen on a hot day.

Great dairy farm experience with the kids. Really nice that you can take a self guided tour, and lots of friendly animals to pet. Beautiful scenery and plenty to do. If you plan to do the self guided tour, make sure to read the FAQs on the website, and stop in the store for the map of the grounds. Otherwise can be a bit confusing. Definitely a one of a kind experience the kids will love! ..and the ice cream is the perfect treat to end the day.

Cute dairy farm to visit for some fresh soft creamy ice cream. Walk around and see the baby cows and goats. The place isnt huge, so youll see them rather fast, but its enjoyable. Inside is small, but they have milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, granola, eggs, coffee, some meats (pig ears, jerky, ground beef, hot dogs, beef patties) and we saw some cucumbers. Keep an eye on their Facebook from time to time they will have other produce or even full meal kits to pick up or food trucks. We did get some.granola, milk, and string mozzarella cheese (sooooo soft and fresh tasting!) To take home with us.

PLEASE DO NOT PATRON SOUTH MOUNTAIN CREAMERY. We went to get some ice cream, but declined when we arrived. We hope you will not support this farm. The conditions of the animals were unspeakable. It was very hard to watch.Several cows were severely limping in pain. Looked as if some had issues and needed attention. Some were really struggling to walk. Some looked like they had disease . They could barely walk to the milking barn. They were malnourished and boney. P,ease see photos. We would add the video if we could. The maternity area was also a sight. We read a calf was found dead in another review. It is not surprising. We will be forwarding this information to the necessary persons. Thank you !

Weve been trying to go to this place for a very long time. When we saw they opened a store in downtown Frederick, we were elated. However, the products we bought in our visit there were somewhat disappointing ... Two different flavors of ice cream were just OK, not that creamy, and the butter is hard as rock (even after being left at room temperature for a while) and not that tasty. Definitely, the same products purchased at other store or in the supermarket are better. We like to support local businesses, but I feel i must give them a so-so review in this case, in hopes they improve.

Went to South Mountain Creamery as a part of Marylands Ice Cream Trail initiative. The atmosphere was a bit basic, but gives you the full farm feel. The ice cream stands for itself and is rich and flavorful with many options. Apart from the tasty ice cream, they offer viewings of the cows being milked, cow feedings, and calves. Definitely would recommend for anyone living in Maryland or neighboring states.

Cool little place in the middle of nowhere. Excellent ice cream and shakes set in a working dairy operation. Come for the cows, stay for the best ice cream in Frederick! We have taken my niece and daughter here several times. The kids and adults alike love seeing the cows, especially the calfs that you can pet in the barn. Theres a super fun playground and old trikes for kids to ride on. Really my favorite part of going there is the phenomenal ice cream! Of course they offer all kinds of dairy products as well. Great way to spend a couple hours with the family!

I have been planning to bring my kids here for awhile. I hear advertisements on the radio, etc. all the time. I am extremely confused as to how this place has a 5 star rating. The kids area was a dump! An abandoned dryer, buckets of mystery water, trash bags, food, old broken toys. How is this considered a family attraction? I understand that a dairy farm is not a glamorous place to go. But the experience was very disappointing! The photos on website, Instagram, etc. are very deceiving.

Yummy selection of ice cream, milk, cheeses, meats, etc. I took my son on a self-guided tour of the creamery. We were able to visit calves and watch the cows being killed in the milking parlor. Afterwards we played at the playground and grabbed some ice cream, egg nog, apple cider, and cheese to-go! Highly recommend! My favorite part was the calves and my son’s favorite part was the playground. They have a virtual tour that can aid your tour as well. They seemed to be doing as much as possible in this new pandemic “normal” world. We appreciated the outing very much!

South Mountain Creamery is like extended family to me. My husband and I have been customers for several years and became Moo Members when the program started last year. It is important to me to support small, local businesses that value communities and sustainability. South Mountain Creamery provides great products and continues to expand their co-op to an extent that it is like having a local farmers market delivered to your door every week. I really appreciate their communication and customer service. Their drivers are also great and I love getting a Christmas card from them every year...shout out to Kenny, Im glad he delivers to my neighborhood every week. We have also visited the farm and Harvest Kitchen restaurant...loved them both. Their ice cream is sooo good. My husband grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and was very impressed by their operation. Love being able to pet the cows! Thanks for everything. :-)

Check their Facebook for festivals that are going on pretty regularly. Thats when I would recommend going. Tons of activities from feeding the cows, to corn hole, hayrides and tons for the kids to climb on and play with. Their ice cream is delicious and made on site. They also offer select meats, eggs and other dairy options including milk delivery in glass bottles like the old days. 4 stars because if theres not a festival going on theres not much other than ice cream. Which, if youre going out for ice cream then youre set. Friendly people, friendly animals, good day trip.

This place is outstanding! They have all the products you would expect from a dairy farm, but for me, the real star is the ice cream. Really not sure how it could have been a worse experience - dead calf in the calf barn that somehow no one knew about until we told them, bought two yogurts in the shop that were very, very rancid (turns out they were long expired). Only redeeming grace was the very nice lady at the shop, but she should probably be checking the product each day. Having such expired product means that *no one* is checking their product for several days, if not longer. Definitely would not trust this place with food based off of these very poor, basic food handling failures. Perhaps the dead calf was just a one-in-a-million fluke, but combined with our experience in the shop - it doesnt bode well.
