VERDICT: There are so many dealers in this vicinity, there is NO EXCUSE for poor service. Move to the next dealer. Nothing to see hereMy experience was SO bad, Im not going to waste my time reviewing it but for this: there are about 50 other dealerships within a few miles of this place. They have the same cars, and they very likely provide better customer service.

Anthony Tony was so wonderful at Armstrong! I called a day prior with the exact car, model, and color I was looking for and knew it was available from their website. I had looked for nearly a week for the exact color combo I wanted as far as two hours away. He informed me it had just been delivered that day and I could see it the next day. I arrived at the dealer less than 24 hours later and the team at Armstrong had it cleaned up and ready for a test drive! I was so impressed with Tonys knowledge and interest in what I was looking for; he was a fantastic listener and never once pressured me into buying. When it came down to negotiating a price and a trade in value of my 2019 Jetta, he listened to all of my concerns and price points.Everyone at Armstrong went out of their way to give me clear financing options for my new 2022 VW Taos, even staying nearly two hours after the dealer had closed for the night to ensure I had a great experience. Where do I start... We bought a used car that didnt make it out 25 miles before it had issues. Took it back to the shop and while they attempted to make it right and fix things, their service guys would refuse to answer the phone, causing me to have go into the shop to get updates. Staffing issues was their an excuse but when I showed up there was two guys in the bay talking... All while the phones ring... Like what the heck is going on here.Just terrible communication throughout the experience. The two weeks it took them to repair the car caused us some pretty serious inconvenience. 1/5 stars for entertainment value and 1/5 stars for all the excessive inconvenience caused by this experience. And in case anyone thinks Im off my rocker, just call the Honda dealership down the road. They will tell you exactly the same thing regarding the communication breakdowns.
Worst customer service ever. Was there last Friday with my sister who was shopping for a car. We got there and looked for a couple of minutes in there show room, no one came. Then we sat down and was there there for about 10 minutes and no one came not even we will be right with you, nothing. There were a couple of workers who could see were talking about us. Then when we decided to leave another guy just kept watching us even going out the door. Just an awful experience with customer service. Will never go back there. Just awful. Which I could give them no stars.
Car dealers have a nasty reputation for not always being honest and forthright. The folks at Armstrong Volkswagen were very easy to work with an even though it seemed to take forever we got everything done in about 90 minutes. So happy and pleas ed with how we were treated. Steve our sales representative is a true hero. This poor man had his foot in a boot and was running around all over the property helping us. His dedication is worth his weight in gold. My experience with Darrrien was great, he was not pushy, but allowed us to take our time. We appreciate his calm demeanor. I bought a car that didn’t turn out to be good for my family, but the manager was kind and accommodated our family with a better vehicle that fit my families needs.
Came in and test drove a used white Mazda CX-5. During talks, I mentioned I will also look at another Mazda that is the Color I want. The salesman(cant remember the name younger guy), looked and asked why did I even come in to test drive? I told him I just want to weigh all my options and before I spend my money. He looked annoyed and became rude. Made some argument that made no sense. I truly was going to buy that car after checking the other options since it had low mileage compared to the others I have been looking at. I ended up buying a white Acura SUV from another dealer that day. I guess this dealer gets offended when customers are shopping and making wise decisions about where they spend their money.
Travis made my daughters first vehicle purchase (9/6/21) a very easy and enjoyable experience for her as well as us. I have bought dozens of vehicles and this was by far the easiest and best experience to date.
Carl Chilcutt in the service department has been absolutely incredible every time I have been in. I not only had a wonderful experience purchasing my car from here but being a young new mom and coming in for servicing done on my car has been such a stress free and very pleasant experience. Carl has always been so helpful and going the extra mile when helping me any type of issue or service I needed. I always had such a negative experience going In for any type of servicing done on past cars at different places, always dealing with them telling me a bunch a random stuff needed done at one location but when I went to another they said something completely different. I have never once had this issue when coming in and getting my car serviced here. THANK YOU CARL AND VOLKSWAGEN SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS SUCH AN EASY EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY FOR BEING A FIRST TIME MOM!!!

Took our brand new Tiguan in on Monday because the driver side door rattled when the window was down. Two hours into my wait I took a walk outside and saw a car that looked like mine but I didn’t think anything of it. Half an hour later I walked into service and asked if there was any update on the car since I was told it was a quick fix and shouldn’t take to long. After another half hour they told me my car was done and proceeded to walk out to my car, the car they had parked an hour earlier that was actually my car. They didn’t even fix my car and told me I would have to come back in a few days after they get in the part they needed.Fast forward to Wednesday I bring my car in and unfortunately I had to leave my mother there to wait for the car due to me having to work later that night and I couldn’t wait around for them to fix it. She said the same thing happened to her, she watched them park my car but didn’t think anything of it. (This is a car dealership, and they have a lot of Tiguans in the same color). They waited 45 minutes to let her know the car was done. After everything was said and done I read the paperwork they gave my mother and it clearly states they just tightened the bolts under the panel and didn’t even use the spare part. Thanks for wasting my mother’s and my time these two days because no one actually looked at my car on Monday.

I got a great deal on a used car with low mileage at Armstrong Volkswagen and I’m very happy with the purchase. Darrien was such a great salesman to work with too. Very friendly, informative and best of all not pushy like most salesmen I’ve delt with in the past at other dealerships. Ust sends me to voicemail box because everybody is busy, but calls never returned because Carl is on vacay! Had a terrible experience six months ago, too, when the same Tiguan needed a new turbo. I was considering trading in and wanted to take a look at the new ID.4 when I dropped the car off this time, but the sales people would rather talk to each other than help me. Actively avoided talking to me, left me standing at the front desk until the person finished with the customer. Take me out to look at a car in the lot, and another customer is literally like this is my car what are you doing, they don’t even know what car to show me! Then the salesman just wants to bad-mouth Tesla and Chevy when I tell him I’m considering other EVs too, instead of telling me how the VW is better I get to hear how Tesla isn’t a real car company…. Ok… I’ll end with Armstrong lost my sales and service business forever, I’ll take my VWs across town to another VW dealership for service, and they’ve done such a good job tarnishing the brand I’m considering switching away completely. Nice job guys, keep up the good work!

I went in to visit my son John ONeal in the Parts department on my visit to the USA. And he gave me a private tour of the facility. I remembered the dealership when it was Buick a long time ago. Not a great dealer experience so far. My wifes car was dropped off for a simple reflash and what should have been a one day job turned into two months without our vehicle. Seems they only have one master tech and he unfortunately was out with covid for weeks. They had other shop staff try to work on the car during that time and then we get a call that the cars ecu computer was fried in the process. Carl in service said it will be around $1,000+ to repair and we would be responsible for the charge, even though we were quoted $150 for simple reflash. We were surprised at that and called a few other shops specializing in that type of repair. They all said its impossible for this type of procedure to damage the ecu computer UNLESS the shop did not maintain the battery voltage and make sure the cars battery was at spec and kept there for the duration of the procedure. Mistakes happen. Problem is, I cant get anyone to pick up the phone at the dealer or return my voicemails. I have called dozens of times just over the course of the last few weeks to Carl and also waiting for a callback from the GM. How does a business operate without answering the phones? We brought our vehicle to the dealer because we thought they would be the best and operate with integrity, seems we might have been wrong. We have been more that patient but need this issue resolved asap.
Had a wonderful experience here. Found a car listed on line and they are very transparent and up front about costs. Walked in, test drove the car, then paid exactly what was listed on line (which was on the bottom end of the KBB fair market value). The bad service dep guy said we can not fix it ! . Well. How can I do.? I am so afraid to drive my vehicle with the problem. But I drove to my home. And park. I plan talk with my attorney . Volkswagen dealer can not fix the Volkswagen vehicle, where I Get fix the problem? Non responsible dealer service guy I really want give him only half of star. Wow. What a bunch of scammers. They ran a credit check- with out my permission- so many times my credit score is now lowered. The sakes guy could not even finish the sake with me before he was on to someone else. Felt really gross and I paid way too much and have buyer remorse.
I have bought or leased a lot of new cars in the past 6 years. My needs and wants change often so I am always looking at the idea of getting a new car. For years i drove electric cars and would use the dealerships free charging station quite often. 5 stars for that.I have been in a number of times to look at cars and check for deals. Most of the time I have been blown off in the past but found them more willing to help now.I was referred by Megan in parts as well as one of their former techs to stop by and check them out again because I was looking at getting rid of my fiat that I had bought new just 2 months earlier. They offered what 2 other dealership had for my car but the number was 2500 less than what carmax had offered so I sold the car to carmax. I went in looking for something that had a great discount and the got me a jetta s with the manual that was priced better than anyone else could do so I took it even though it was my least favorite color. I worked with Gordon and he came down on his day off to finish the deal. The sales manager was wonderful as well but he did seem a little shocked when I stopped in the next day to set up my detail. I can be a hand full to deal with in regards to cars so I think he thought I was returning it. Lol. On the day I picked up my car i was in and out of there really quickly. That was a huge concern of mine because I had my 2 kids with me.To sum things up i feel like i was well taken care of and got the very best new car i could get for my humble budget. Thank you!
If I could give 0 stars, I WOULD!!I took in my car to this dealership to get it serviced, and I specifically requested for it to not be washed because I had a $1900 paint correction and ceramic coat done to it, and when I came back to pick it up, I saw that it was washed and all scratched up from the terribly done wash. When I asked Chris to talk to the service manager, he didn’t get him on the line and said that “he didn’t have it in his notes” but I specifically asked for them NOT to wash it.To some, this might not be a big deal, but paying $1900 to make my paint look new just to get it all scratched up again is just not acceptable! Would never expect Volkswagen to treat their loyal customers this way. I feel so cheated, and now i will be at another loss to fix the damages.

I looked at and test drove a 2015 Tucson. Made an offer and they declined. I proceeded to wait a week and follow up on the same vehicle. After calling the dealership and making a second offer (higher than my first offer), while telling them why I am unwilling to budge in price. I receive a text saying cool. Unprofessional, and unnecessary.I advise people not to do business with this dealership, the first salesman (Anthony) was inexperienced, unable to answer multiple questions.

This dealership did everything quickly and efficiently on a recall of a 2016 jetta- Carl advised me they would have my car ready in about 6 hours that they would have the part ready- AND that the recall was needed- Herzog mier advised me they would need my car all day and only then would they know if it needed the part- they stated they did not have the part on hand and if the recalled part was needed they would not allow me to take my car home -they said it could take time till they got my part and i would be without my car UNTIL THE PARTS CAME IN!! they stated they would not allow me to take my car home!!!! REALLY !!!! I almost laughed at there answer- SO STAY AWAY FROM HERZOG MIER CARL AND HIS TEAM AT ARMSTRONG ARE GREAT THANKS!!!!

Lori (Laurie?) at Armstrong VW was fantastic! She worked quickly and efficiently to get us our new Subaru, and helped make sure the alignment was checked, since the car seemed to pull a little to one side. When we discovered that the sliding cover for the trunk did not fit properly, she got us a replacement at no charge. This was 8 1/2 months ago. We have now driven our car across the country to relocate, and it did a fantastic job! It towed the U-Haul trailer from Oregon to Virginia, and all of our stuff, in 6 days. We needed to replace the tires after that, but otherwise all is good. Thanks, Lori!

My husband and I came in to look at a certain SUV they had in their used inventory, we were hesitant to have our credit checked because we knew our credit wasn’t the greatest but didn’t know our numbers exactly. The owner there reassured us once he ran our credit he was going to be able to work with us better and find us some great deals so we decided to see where our credit was and surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as we thought. They gave us options for the SUV but unfortunately the payments were out of our comfort zone. Since it is a Volkswagen dealership they showed us an SUV they have that has the same features we were looking for. I test drove the car and they gave us a quote. We decided it was a good deal and felt comfortable with the payments. They gave us a great interest rate. Overall we felt comfortable not pressured or rushed like you would at other dealerships. I’m very thankful for the family owned business that are and super happy we found them.We walked out with a brand new suv for lower payments and a lower loan than we thought we would have and no down payment. Armstrong Volkswagen is by far THE BEST car dealership I have ever been to!! Not only do they have good clean cars, but they have better customer service than any car dealership I’ve ever seen (I’ve been to a lot of scummy places). I recently purchased a car from them and to help me with getting paperwork signed they drove an hour away from the dealership twice to get signatures so I didn’t have to make the drive!! a few days after I purchased the car I noticed it needed an alignment I called and spoke to them about the issue and they really listened to me instead of brushing me off because I’m a woman like a lot of places do! within a couple days they were on their way again an hour away from the dealership to bring me a service rental so they could pick up my car and take it to the dealership and fix it, the service department had it fixed and they had my car back to me IN ONE DAY!!! Not only did they make 4 trips down here total so I didn’t have to pack all my kids up and drive an hour each way THEY DID IT WITH A FRIENDLY SMILE!!! So many times I’ve been to dealerships where they treat you like a paycheck and are rude and pushy! ARMSTRONG VOLKSWAGEN has done nothing but make feel comfortable and confident in my car buying experience and they truly went above and beyond for me!!! I couldn’t have asked for a better dealership to buy from!!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CAR THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!! This is the ONLY place you need to go to service your Volkswagen and Carl is the man to see!! I’ve visited all of the Volkswagen dealerships around and Armstrong is hands down the BEST to visit and I have so much confidence and trust in Carl after my most recent visit. I had a recall and a kind of major general maintenance done and not only did they complete the work a lot faster than expected, the quality of care they put into the vehicle and making sure I was communicated with was top notch. I was willing to spend whatever they recommended because I knew they were 1) looking out for my safety and well-being of my car and 2) I knew it was going to get done RIGHT! Skip going to unreliable third party shops and just go to Armstrong even for the basic stuff, they take care of you and specifically Carl! He promised to take care of my car and could sense I had major anxiety when it came to servicing my vehicle and he made sure to follow through with his promises. As a woman, I never felt pressured to spend money on additional services that were recommended, I was spoken to like a human being and explained certain things I wasn’t knowledgeable on. Before the service, Carl explained to me what was going to happen to my vehicle, a time estimate and a cost. No surprises at all! Mike was also a great contribution to the experience! He was very friendly and easy to chat with, you could tell he and Carl worked well as a team on a Saturday - they were holding the service fort down. I’m so thrilled with my experience and I can’t say that enough - I’ve finally found a service advisor/manager I can trust and build a rapport with for all the services to come. I brought my Jetta TDI here to have multiple problems fixed. I made the appointment online (which is so convenient for my schedule) and I’m very happy with the service at this place. Carl is the one who helped me at the appointment, and he was very kind. He explained everything I needed to know about what they needed to do with my car. He called with updates on my car every couple of hours. This place has outstanding customer service, and I will be bringing my car here every time it has a problem!

Ruined my vehicle. They just want to keep charging you.I bought an OBD, i scanned my vehicle, then took it to them and paid for it to get scanned and they ended up telling me everything is fine.I did this after i kept taking the vehicle to their shop every time i had a problem, which was constantly. Be careful. they ruined the wiring in my car and caused a lot of damage!
Just stopped in to the parts department.I’ve had difficulty getting a headlight assembly for a 2020 Atlas Cross Sport. Parts man took the time to look for it and found one somewhere back East. 10 days +! He was courteous.

Overall they try to make your experience a positive one.On one hand, they need to be honest. I called to service my recall. I asked how long it might take and they said they could have someone call me back but never did. I called again to schedule the appointment. Again, they offered to call back with a wait time but never did. I went anyway and they said it would take an hour when really it took two and a half. A recall is free and not the fault of the buyer yet I found it a little funny they recommended services to buy at the end. Especially because I just had my oil changed yet they recommended I do it again.On the plus side their waiting room is cozy, temperate and has snacks, coffee, TV and magazines. The staff is friendly as well.

Had a great experience a while back when I bought my 2018 Infiniti q50 from their used lot! The salesman was really helpful when was looking for the car! The only complaint was when the finance manager was a little too pushy on the extended car warranty but otherwise everything was great!
Sales guy was very short through the process, but trying his BEST to pretend to be a nice guy( typical sales people) wouldn’t put requests/agreements about items missing from the car being replaced, into writing...And then when it was negotiation time I told them what my bottom dollar was, they tried to get $200 more from me but lost out on the whole deal over it.I told the sales person what my available amount of money was, and was he obviously was willing to let the 11,000 sale go over $199.99. Felt insulted they came back with that offer after I stated I only that for my budget. Disappointing
Please, buyer beware. We live on the Oregon Coast and made the 3 hour trip to Portland to purchase a car for my son. We had several vehicles in line to view but in the end made a purchase from Armstrong as we trusted buying from a dealer vs. a private seller. This was a huge mistake. We purchased a 2009 Audi A4. By the time we made the trip back home (3 hours one way), both the front and passenger seat back panels had somehow come loose and were lying against the base of the back seat. This was our first discovery. Long story short, we are less than 3 months since the purchase and now the car will not start. I reached out to the dealer and per the service manager they were aware of some of the defects we noted and he has no idea why they were not fixed as he says we dont let cars go out unless these things are fixed. Still waiting to hear back from him as to what they can or will do to remedy this situation. I have sent pictures of all of the defects (as requested by the service manager) but so far have had no response to those. Please do your research and do not trust that just because it is a big dealership that they will be honest. I will tell everyone I know not to do business with this company. They need to make this right but so far, no luck. After reading all the terrible reviews Im not expected much of a resolution unfortunately.
We had a GREAT buying experience for a used low mileage 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan!We knew exactly what we wanted so I reached out to the dealer on the phone. Darrien was fantastic and offered to set it aside for me while I spoke with my wife. I did an online application and received the approval email within the hour.We came in 2 days later at open and the van was ready for us to drive. Somehow, someone still beat us to financing by 5 min so we had to wait about an hour but they accommodated our family with 3 kids with snacks in a seating area with TV.Darrien checked in on us regularly and gave us updates on timing for us to reach make it into the financing office.Once we made it in, it was an easy process. The options were set out for me to purchase extra warranties and I showed my wife who was with the kids in the waiting area. After we politely declined, we were simply asked if we were sure and after we said no a second time, there was no pressure and still treated with respect and kindness.In the end, we left with an AMAZING deal on our vehicle and a great car buying experience.Thanks Darrien and the whole team at Armstrong VW!

The service manager, Carl Chilcutt, provided me with excellent customer service! He was very welcoming and made sure all of my questions and concerns were answered before the service. I was told everything up front, what was happening during the service, the cost, the time frame and he even asked if I wanted a car wash. Mike was also there to help check my vehicle in and was a delight to chat with! He is a great addition to the team and has such a positive and welcoming attitude as well. I havent had good luck with any other dealer in town in terms of getting a loan approved. I bought a 2014 Smart Fortwo from a shady used car lot in Salem back in May. I was able to bring my credit score up another 100 points since then with perfect on time payments. No matter where I went, nobody could approve a loan and trade in my car. No matter where I went, big dealerships, small dealerships, no matter what car. So I had given up on buying a newer, nicer car. One day I was looking on Autotempest for 2016 smart cars. I found exactly what I was looking for, and for the right price. So I texted Armstrong Volkswagen, because I was working that day. I told them about my situation. They were super kind, werent judgemental, and took a credit application. They respected my wishes and didnt shotgun my credit. I was surprised to get a call the day after Thanksgiving (48 hours later) that I was approved and everything is ready to go. I was in disbelief, because of how much Ive been burned by other dealers. So I went there, met the sales guy, and the owners son. Very kind, and nice people. They had me sign a few documents, and they helped me move my stuff into my new car. I was there less than 2 hours. The crazy part is the loan they got me was 5% cheaper than what I was paying, and kept me with the same bank I was with before. Even more crazy they paid off my entire loan, even though it was under water. I have to tell you, I wish I could give these guys 1000 stars. They are very honest, and transparent about everything. They didnt even try to sell me extra packages or anything in the finance office. Just a smooth sail. If you havent bought a car before, or have had problems getting approved, definitely work with these guys. My next smart car or Mercedes Benz will likely be through these guys. I promise you will not be disappointed. Look on their website and find a car you like, take a test drive, and tell them about your credit situation. Theyll literally go to work for you.
Found an Alltrack SE on their website and drove the 4 hours to purchase it. Got a ride from a friend but they were prepared to buy me a bus ticket if needed. Car was even more loaded than expected and the price was fantastic with essentially minimal haggling (thank you Lori, you are the best!!!)Year and a half later, car got totaled out by a hit and run driver and had no idea what to do since my insurance was trying to screw me. Called their office a few times with general questions and they were helpful, informative the whole time. They even told me that since Id bought a warranty package, I could get a refund from them since I wont be needing it anymore (James thank you!) When everything finally wrapped up with the insurance claim, Nick was really patient in helping me get all my paperwork together to get the refund awarded. Huge relief after fighting and fighting and no justice for 10 weeks. Thank you Nick!If youre in the market for a Volkswagen, theyre team is the best the whole way around. It’s the perfect car for the young family, and will ensure that we are ready as we begin the next step in our lives.Lou really shattered all of the preconceived notions we had about car salespeople, and made the experience a memorable one. It’s the first large life purchase we’ve made together, and I’m really glad that we ended up meeting Lou. We were mentally and emotionally preparing ourselves for a stressful event, yet it was everything but!I’ve been a VW loyalist for nearly a decade, but when it does come time to replace my beloved GTI, we’ll be contacting Lou and the folks at Armstrong VW. Best car buying experience ever! However there service department has a lot to be desired! I have a warranty so far thats been amazing! The guy I deal with at the service department really needs to be like the others service department people and check in with his clients and let them know whats up every time I come in its at least a 2+ hour wait! I know it is probably me I am not patient either!
Great experience buying a car, very helpful staff. This place will not try to gross a ton of money off a sale and has, in my opinion, fair prices. Highly recommended if youre in the area and debating where to go. A suggestion would be a better organization/inventory/accountability system for the keys and cars as it seemed like it took a while to track down where keys and cars were. One car we wanted to look at couldnt be found even though they had a key for it and it was apparently still on the lot somewhere. Either way, great place, better than the other 3 dealers I visited in the past week.
So I am writing this after returning to the service department. I had my oil changed a few days ago and right after it was done I drove e straight to work about 20 miles. When I arrived at work I noticed an oil smell. The car sat at work for 48hours then I drove home and the car sat for a few days. Went to work yesterday morning and later in the day my wife called and said there is oil all over the driveway. Went outside and looked under my car and yes fresh oil was there. Took it back this morning and they found that the o-ring was pinched and leaking oil that was the bad part. Now what makes a good business is how they step up and they did. They fixed the leak cleaned the oil up under the hood and belly pan and offered to have a company come and clean the oil in my brand new driveway. That is customer service and how business should be done. Thanks to the service management for stepping up admitting a falt and taking care of the customer.
Great place. The customer service was good; my car didnt come with the users manual and they went through 2 parking lots to get me a replacement. Also, I did pay much for my car and its a really good car. Repair section is good too.
Bought a used certified TDI from Deb. Everyone was been extremely helpful with the buying process and making everything easy for me. Found an issue with a small valve in the AC one month after buying the car. The part was covered under warranty but I was happily surprised when the sales department paid the deductible for me. It will make it easier to do business with them again in the future.

I had a wonderful experience at Armstrong from start to finish. The staff was kind, honest, and the dealership is really clean/nice. I always felt like they were doing what was best for me as a customer. I worked with Craig and he was awesome. Well definitely be buying another car from them one day.
Mechanics will rob you dry. I do not recommend women bring their cars there. Go to Fix-Um Haus in N Portland. Its worth the drive.
