Alger Bikes goes the distance- and then some. There are many west MI shops, but Alger delivers a better experience. I’ve always been treated fairly. They are not pushy. They are friendly and care to understand you AND your cycling needs. Big plus, their mechanics and bike knowledge are tops in the area. Stop by and check them out.

Awesome service and friendly staff at the bike shop. Due to supply chain issues they did not have a part, but gave us a suggestion for a temporary workaround. Great group of people who care about the sport and our toys. Well be back next time we need to get stuff for the bike. Also have a great service department offering tuneup and inspection services to keep you safe and rolling upright.

A+ in every regard. We drove from 2 hours away to buy a Cannondale Topstone 1 that only Alger had in the right size. Even though we are a long-distance customer without other options in the midst of the current bike shortage, we were treated like wed been buying bikes from them for years. We worked with Mike, who did a very good bike fit to confirm the size and determine if any changes (stem, seat setback, ...) were needed. Mike also walked us through every single detail of the bike, maintenance recommendations, pre-ride checklists, the works. Frankly, I was blown away at how competent and friendly this store is. The woman working with Mike and the mechanic were also very friendly and knowledgeable. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone looking for a bike to put Alger on your list.

Bosch E-Bike experts. Nathan F was able to solve my quirky firmware issue on my Bosch E bike. His knowledge and contacts at Bosch were able to take care of my bike, even with same day service. It was an issue that he says he’s never seen before but was still able to correct it. Top-notch service.

I took my 47 year old Schwinn in for service. The technician called twice to let me know the estimate for the work and then again when that work wasnt possible and to approve an alternative. The bike had a little issue when I got it back and they corrected it while I browsed the shop. The gentleman (Chris) came out and showed me what had happened and chatted for a few. Ive been enjoying riding more and more and will be back soon to buy a new bike. Ive been quite happy with this shop, even though I live closer to other shops and have used them too. I feel a lot better about making a large new purchase from them seeing how helpful they are keeping even a bike fast approaching its 50th birthday on the road.

Had a great experience here! They have a wide selection to fit every budget and all needs. They also have bike repair and services with experienced technicians. I spent a long time here, tried lots of bikes, got good advice, and even went to other shops, but made up my mind and came back here. Happy with my purchase, their accessories are a good price too, and my accessories were installed for free.

Everyone is amazing. My back tire got a flat and I wasnt able to remove the bolts. Nor was I able to get up to the shop as it was my only mode of transport. Mike made sure my bike got up there and fixed. Im in awe. Thank you.

Terrible website, I filtered for “in stock” and still had to have it shipped instead of “curb side pickup” and I had to enter my “payment method” THREE TIMES... all I wanted was some 700c inner tubes with Schrader valves, they could have said that it can’t be “curb side pickup” before I spent 15 minutes on the stupid website. Will not “visit” again.

The day before I was to leave for the sweet trails of the Keweenaw, I broke a disc brake caliper. Alger Bikes squeezed my brake rebuild into their already busy service schedule and my riding vacation was saved! Thank you!

Great bike shop with talented, knowledgeable staff. Probably on the more expensive side of comparable places in town, including co-ops etc. Ive always had great interactions with the staff. They are honest and not trying to push unnecessary work or replacements. When a part they installed failed, they were quick to investigate and replace for free.

Wonderful and knowledgeable staff. They assisted me with a bike sizing which included measurements and testing out bikes. They helped me determine the right size and fit for me. I drove from Kalamazoo and will soon return and purchase a Scott MTB. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALGER BIKES!!!

Took my 2005 bicycle here and was told they couldn’t service it because it was leaking oil on the forks. The technician then proceeded to try to break the screws inside the forks. Prying then with as much force as he could. After telling me he couldn’t work on it mind you. If he would’ve managed to break them it would’ve been a serious problem. Came back recently and got an inner tube and a skewer cap on the cheap. Had a good experience the second time around so I left a positive review.

This a great bike shop. I have been doing business with them for years. I just got the latest addition to my Cannondale/Alger fleet. Brian and his team spent lots of time over several months to make sure I got the new bike that was perfect for me. They were successful in helping me choose a great bike. The shop was terrific under Carl and Brian is making it even better.

I love this place! Alger Bikes always does excellent repairs. When my 5th graders bike needed a part, they let us keep the bike until the part came in -- and then they fixed it in 3 hours so that he could still ride his bike to school! Thank you!!

Every time Ive been to Alger Bike Ive felt like the owners and staff were looking out for me and going the extra mile to figure out exactly what I need at the price I would be comfortable with. One thing Ive noticed after going to Alger over many years - they treat everyone with a high level of respect, whether theyre in there for a repair on a bike thats been handed down 12 times, or a brand new top of the line mountain bike. Alger Bike is a bikers bike shop, but in the broadest of terms. They look out for their customers (all of them) and help them figure out exactly what bike, parts, or equipment theyre looking for, and Ive found that they usually have as good or better prices than you can find online (and Ive checked). So why not go somewhere here in town, where you can talk to people who know what theyre doing and get just as good of a deal?

My parents bought my first bike here in 1974. Then in 76 I paid $400 (a LOT to spend in 76) on a Super LeTour. I still have it, and Alger still services it when needed. By far my favorite shop in GR. When I walk in the larger Chain stores, I feel their sole goal is to sell me something. When I walk into Alger I feel their sole goal is to help me, even if they are not making money off me on every trip.

Dont waste your time at this place if you want to get a coaster brake fixed or repaired in any way. Terrible customer service all around. The excuses are endless at this place.

You cant go wrong with Alger! They have been around for a long time and there is a reason for that: great service, great brands, great people. They listen to what you need and recommend products based on that, not on profit margin. Just ordered a custom wheelset while someone else was buying a comfort hybrid bike. Everyone is welcome, everyones needs are met!

My go to Bike repair and supply store. It seems like all of the staff routinely ride and keep up on all of the latest bike technology. It also seems like each one of their staff has a favorite type of riding. You can find road bike, Cross bike, Fat bike, mountain bike and BMX riders here working. They also want to sell you the correct bike for your riding style.

Ive bought many bikes from Alger over the years, and have also had them serviced and repaired. Its a pleasure doing business with them. They are knowledgeable, friendly, devoted bikers themselves, and trustworthy. I hope they stay around at least as long as I do.

They wont repair my bikes tire because it was bought in a department store sorry I couldnt afford a $500 bike from your shop but I was still willing to pay for you to fix the flat tire 🤷🏽‍♀️

Beware of their “chain tool”. They make it a practice to try and fool you into buying at the very least, a new chain.This shop uses a worn out Park Tools chain checker. The way I found out they tried to tell me that my chain was COMPLETELY worn out. The BRAND NEW chain I had installed 2 weeks prior. They told me my derailleur hanger was so weak it was about to break. The hanger turns out to just be loose.All I wanted was to have my derailleur adjusted for my new larger cassette. Oh well....what do you do

This place is never open when I need them. Never.

The staff are great however the Cannondale bikes are not. This was my first Cannondale and I had numerous problems with the bike. I do not recommend the purchase.

Hate to be the one to go against the grain with the reviews here but I feel that I should let people know it is not always sun flowers and sunshine at this place. Not all of the workers are as nice as the owner sadly and in the last few years it has begun to show the roughness of the area it resides in. I brought my bike in from Germany as it was having a problem with the crank today and the owner was no where in sight. That is okay I suppose but after standing around for five minutes with out being waited on I finally spoke up. Not a single-one of the six people were busy with customers or anything else. When they did help they did not even look at my bike and just said ... hrmm it is prob this or prob that and that you should replace the entire thing. Okay as someone that has biked around the world I do know a thing or two about biking and called him out right there on the spot for not even bothering to look at the damn thing. When he finally looked at it is was indeed what I thought, a worn crank thread. No biggie yeah? well apparently for them as they tried to sell me a cheap plastic p.o.s from China as a replacement and when I finally asked them to go online in check he dicked around on the computer for a few moments. I finally went behind the counter to look at what he was looking at and he has Facebook on.All in all what a terrible experience.

So Brian and the team at Alger literally *saved my race day*. I was headed to town for Barry-Roubaix and realized half-way there Id forgotten my shoes/cleats. Coming from Chicago on a Friday night, this posed a real problem for a 10 am race start the next day.Not only did Brian stay an hour after official closing time on a Friday waiting for me, but he fit me with an amazing pair of Sidi shoes (and gave me & my friend dinner recommendations for the neighborhood). We talked a little bit about everything - there was no rush, no pressure, no ok we sold you something now lets go. Ill go back anytime Im in the GR area... and hopefully for them it will be during regular business hours.
