I really enjoyed this shop. The customer service is always very good and the employees are very knowledgeable. They gave good advice and recommendations which is always really helpful. Their store has a ton of stuff there and good quality products. Id recommend this as a great bike shop in the grand rapids area. Highly recommend.
A great bike shop, the best in GR. Amazing service, very knowledgeable and super affordable. They are committed to selling you what you need and not trying to upsell you. They have told me multiple times to buy a cheaper option because it fit my needs better. Cannot recommend enough!
Good bike shop. They helped me fix my bike and now my bike is running nice
Ive browsed the shop in the past, impressed with all the inventory. Yesterday, I received excellent service and was impressed with the way others were being helped around me. Staff took the initiative to get out from behind the counter. Very top-notch crew.
After not having ridden much the last five years, and never having been serious about it, I visited Freewheeler looking for a hybrid bike as a way to get some good outdoor exercise. I planned to mostly ride on paved trails.Walking into the store, even on a Saturday morning in early March, it was clear that the Freewheeler staff makes it a priority to ask people if theres anything in particular theyre looking for or could use help with. In my case, Maddy asked what I was looking for. I explained that my budget was a little below the prices of new bikes on the website. She mentioned that they had used bikes downstairs and proceeded to point out a few that were my size. The second one, a 2016 Trek 7.0 FX, looked great, so I took it for a test ride and loved it! After a little more research about the bike, I went ahead and purchased it. And they threw in a free water bottle and holder!I really appreciated Maddys help throughout the process, never rushing me and answering any question that I had. I will definitely plan on returning to Freewheeler for my biking needs!
Thanks for the repair tips. You people are awesome!
Love this place. They have all kinds of style bikes to help get you the bike you are looking for. I bought two bikes from them recently and love how they were patient as my wife and I tried out a few to find the perfect fit. I havent needed any repairs yet, but I am sure they do well in the shop too.
I went there for the first time 2 . months ago and dropped off a bike. It was ready when they said it would be and price was fair. I brought my wifes bike for the repairs it needed and they were great again! Staff is friendly and very helpful.
I went to this bike store for the first time today to purchase my daughter her first good bike. I was truly impressed. Pat, who helped us, was friendly and knowledgeable and went above and beyond. This store has a huge selection and a lot of bike stores right now have a very low inventory. I’m very happy with our purchase and we will definitely be back.
Fantastic staff and great selection! Eager to explain to the novice while knowledgeable enough to speak with experts. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much Mike for fixing my sons bike in less than 10mins. Very generous and Kind. Great place 👌.
They are quick and professional and got us out the door in a matter of minutes do enjoy that kind of service
Good products selection. The customer service is hit/miss. Half of my visits were great, while half have been terrible. Depends on the employee.
This is my favorite bike shop. So much so that I drive an hour to get there. I was disappointed when the website said 2-3 days turn around and first come first serve. Yet when I dropped my Rad. Mini off for a new gear shifter I was told 2-3 weeks. Guess I should have called ahead. Anyway, great shop but disregard website claim of quick turn around. (Otherwise it is a 5 star shop.)
They helped me find the perfect bike and over the years since then have helped keep me satisfied with maintenance and accessories for a great biking experience. Definitely worth checking out of you need a bike, accessories, or repair.
Great service on my new bike rack. Helped carry to my car and load it as well. They did a great job building the rack for me as well. A very good reason to buy local rather than online!!
I really, really like this place. Ive had several bikes serviced here - mostly cheap ones. They never judge and their prices on parts and service are fantastic! Thanks guys!
Everyone I worked with was incredibly helpful, informative, and a joy to work with. I would recommend them to anyone. Their selection is amazing. They can get anything you want, even when other bike shops are unable to locate it.Haro, Redline, Bianchi - you name it, they got it.I will definitely shop there again. Looking forward to returning to Freewheeler in the future to upgrade components. Thanks Freewheeler!
These guys are fantastic! They know their stuff and have a true passion for bikes. For any of your biking needs, go here!
Awesome crew. Great shop to get you bike related needs and wants.
Visited this shop for the first time to grab a couple miscellaneous parts for a build. Extremely impressed! Tons of parts and bikes in stock when most shops are running very low. Patrick was super cool and very helpful. A+ on this shop and customer service! Thanks Patrick!
I enjoy vintage bikes. In order to get parts I need for my bikes I have spent much time and money at freewheeler. As a woman I have learned to tolerate a certain amount of arrogance from men when dealing with such things. However the absolute lack of professionalism and common courtesy is no longer acceptable. From now on I bypass small business and I will not support local economy. I will make my purchases online.
Great shop, always very busy, patience is good but they have always exceeded my expectationsThanks
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE!!!! PATRICK WAS VERY HELPFUL AND REALLY TOOK THE TIME TO HELP ME WITH FINDING MY NEW BIKE! I PURCHASED THE JAMIS HUDSON... AND I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE! THE CUSTOMER SERVICE HERE IS FANTASTIC AND I WISH THERE WAS MORE PLACES THAT HAD THE CUSTOMER SERVICE FREEWHEELER BIKE SHOP HAS!!! THANK YOU PATRICK FOR BEING SO HELPFUL!!
Gabby Alcala was great she made adjustments to my bike and helped me loaded it and installed new straps to my bike pad on my truck.
I bought my first road bike here, and the guys were amazingly helpful and kind! Im new to road cycling and modern cycle technology, so the terminology was all unfamiliar to me. They were patient enough to walk a noob through everything I needed to know, and hooked me up with the perfect bike. I couldnt be happier!!
This is the only place I will take all my bikes. Always helpful and fast service!
Awesome selection of bikes and accessories which is rare during covid. Shawn hooked me up! Called him and told him what I was looking for. He showed me the bikes in my budget and gave me his honest opinion with no pressure to buy either. I drove 2 hours to get here from the east side and it was totally worth it!
Great bunch of guys to work with always helpful and great service
Excellent experience, with awesome customer care and service from the staff!
They stole from my friend, an employee tricked him into buying a 2 year warranty, he came back a year later and they said the warranty didnt exist. Also, most of these reviews are fake!
Service is great. Pat is the man and Shawn is super helpful
I just had a great experience buying my first mountain bike at Freewheeler Bike Shop! They respected my budget and swapped out tires or no extra charge upon my request.
Great place, great staff and very helpful, never trying to make a buck off you, always giving you the cheapest option but great products and service.
I appeared at this shop during a cycling tour with an issue on my bike. They were welcoming and friendly and were interested in hearing about my trip. The guys in the back found a stand and we started investigating the source of my problem. As a bike mechanic myself Im always cautious of mechanics in shops I dont know, but chatting to the guys here they all seemed very competent. The guy who was working on my bike was excellent and knew exactly what he was doing. It can be hard to find a good bicycle mechanic sometimes but even with my relatively short trip here Im confident I can recommend this place if you need something getting done!Although I didnt have a whole lot of time in the rest of the shop, it seemed well stocked with great variety.
Love this place. Only place in town with bike supply right now and a team to build you one if you need one.
I bought a bike chain for my grandsons bike. After a failed attempt by us to put it on properly at home, I came back with the bike and asked for assistance. Within 3 minutes, the service tech had the chain on & I was on my way. No waiting, no charge. Awesome customer service. Happy Grandson, happy Grandpa (for not having to try to attach it again) !Thank you so very much!
If you are thinking about getting into bikes, or an expert level rider there is no better place to shop than FW! No pressure sales, just expert advice and help picking out the best equipment that suits your riding needs. The first bike purchase I had with them went so well I bought another bike the next year and have referred a couple friends as well! Other shops do not deliver the same amount of service nor do they welcome you without a chip on their shoulder. Get your bike and service here you’ll be happy you did! Say hi to Pat while you’re there...
Great place with low affordable prices. Great customer service too!
Given the circumstances, theres a slight wait time to have a bike worked on. Totally worth the wait, super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Love supporting local, great westside bike shop!! Thanks 😊
I was in the market for a mountain bike, and during my research process I spoke to many bike shops. Sticking to the positive interaction at this shop and that I am not here to criticize others, with them all my interactions were informative, they listened to what I was looking for gave suggestions and also took the time to explain to me.After researching for 2 weeks, I ultimately decided to buy a bike from them because the interactions I had put me at ease. I took a Fuji Nevada, and while because of the current shortage in stock, I could not get the lime green color the black certainly looks the part.I am riding 5-10 miles daily and I am enjoying my bike each day. This is not my first bike, so I have knowledge and some experience going into this and committing 600+ dollars towards the bike. For all the people who are looking at a brand name bike, please dont buy from a big box store or order online. The quality of the bike is night and day, and most importantly the setup and installation of the bike matters as well. Thanks Freewheeler for giving me the joy I experience each day.
That bike shop got it going on I would recommend them to everyone
Been working with these guys since I was a kid on bmx bikes. From new road bikes to Mountain bikes, they got your back!
Service was and is incredible, and is incredible, started with repairs on my big box bike. The employees are so helpful I asked about a aluminum bike in my price range and they had one. I wanted to buy here because of the employees.
Best costumers service ever! 🚲👌🤗
Hands down the best bike shop in Grand Rapids. Do yourself a favor and buy your next bike (and then the rest of your bikes) from Freewheelers. Super helpful staff that wants you to enjoy your hobby. Arguably the best retail experience I have ever had.
Had some work done on my full suspension mountain bike and got it back only to find an awful creaking sound coming from one of the pivot bolts they had replaced. Took it apart to find out they didn’t grease it at all or loctite it per the manufacturer specifications. Also attempted to purchase a headset here and I had the exact specs I needed and was handed a different one than I expected only to be told I didn’t know what I was talking about and it would fit fine. After attempting to install it I found out it was completely the wrong size. If you want work done here I would second guess yourself because it seems to me they don’t really know what they’re doing
The freewheeler bike was the absolutely BEST bike shops I had ever been In!!AND THERE PRICES ARE SUPURB.
I recently brought my bike to get tiers and brakes.i have a custom triathlon bike.this place is amazing not only are they friendly there prices are great!!!!! Truly is the beat bicycle place in town!!!!!! Big thmbs up!!!!!!
Always helpful and have great customer service!!
I love those people!!
Went in looking for a part. Found the part on Amazon for $70, a different online shop for $40. Wanting to try to keep money local, I checked Freewheeler. They had it in stock, sticker said $29.99. Great. While checking out, I told the clerk what I had found online. So he started looking, with me still standing right there waiting to be checked out. Sure enough, he found the same prices. He then looked at me and said he was going to charge me $45 because thats what I was going to pay anyway, with shipping and all. I said no, sticker says $30. He then looks to the guy sitting next to him, presumably his supervisor, and asks what he should do. He cant reorder it for what the sticker says, so he should charge me more, right? Guy next to him says sticker says $30, gotta sell it for $30. So I paid $30, walked out and will never go to Freewheeler again. The sad part is, theyre just a few blocks away.
The best bike shop aver!
I walked in with my 3 year old son to fix his bike and it was busy. I waited for my line and then watched 3 folks getting help before me .. they literally watched me waiting and started helping other people.
Poor communication. After about a week with no confirmation of shipment. I dug through my inbox to find a link to my order status. They cancelled my order.
Pat and the rest of the team at Freewheeler are top notch. They helped me build a Santa Cruz and do a great job with service. It doesnt matter if you are a seasoned biker or just getting in to it, this is the shop to use.
Very helpful and friendly staff
I cannot say enough about the excellent service I got at Freewheeler. Prior to moving, I got a bike tune up and new tire on my bike. The bike tire had a factory defect and they shipped me a brand new tire. I would highly recommend this shop!
Even on a busy afternoon, the staff at Freewheeler makes sure that you get everything you need.
Great service and selection of bikes!
These guys are the best. Excellent assortment of brands, chill guys, and know their stuff, etc. Links to GR/West MI bike community. Youll never get the condescending-bike-shop feeling that a lot of shops have, and thats pretty rare! Go here and support em!
Great place and awesome service!
Very friendly, fast, and affordable. Bought a new tire tube and had it installed for less than a new tube on Amazon. Very happy.
Freewheeler is our go-to shop for bike repairs, tune-ups, etc. Yesterday we purchased our 7 year old his first serious bike. The folks at Freewheeler were great with him, explaining to him how his gears worked, how to stop the bike, and carefully fitting him on the bike. Just the patience with our son was so appreciated. He loves going to Freewheeler (so do we) and the staff take the time to talk everything bikes with you and make sure youre on the right bike for you. Thank you for yet another excellent experience. They are reasonable with repairs, fast, and polite. Highly recommend these guys!
Came in for a break repair, and it was fixed in 20 minutes!
Weve visited FBS five times in the last six weeks for various issues concerning both of our bikes. The staff cannot be described any better than saying theyre simply amazing in ever respect. Being newbies to the Westside, admittedly we were hesitant that any bike shop could surpass the great service by Velo City, in Holland. The personnel at FBS have exceeded our expectations! In our most recent visit, Curt and Alan performed the tasks in a superb manner; one of the bikes came back better than new.Thank you all at FBS for easing our concerns and making us all the more happier to be back out on the road with our bikes. In this new normal environment were all now living in, FBS gives the appearance that nothings amiss because of their special skills, excellent professionalism and exceptional customer service rapport. Thanks, again!
Best bike shop in Michigan friendly, knowledgeable, and great selection of products .
Great shop and super friendly staff. They are really accommodating and helpful. Highly recommended!
I needed a set of brakes for a 1970s Schwinn Varsity 10 speed. My other bicycle was broken and the Schwinn was sort of halfway through a restoration and I needed a bike to ride. I did have the original brakes on order from Ebay but due to Covid 19 the brakes were delayed because USPS is in shambles. The bike shop that I was using was next to useless and made me feel like they were just not interested in helping me. I called Freewheeler and spoke to Jason. Jason was very helpful and told me that even though they were closed that I could come up with the bike and they would serve me curbside. When I arrived Jason was very busy in the shop so I was served by one of his colleagues. He spent the next 30 minutes or so looking through and trying all of the spare brakes they had in stock to find me a set of brakes that I could use! In the end we found a set of old Shimano brakes that fit the bill and he only charged me $5 for the pair!!!! Freewheeler has got my business!!!
Excellent customer service and knowledgeable staff.
These guys have been around forever. I purchased my first legit BMX bike here when I was 14, a “free agent”. Just purchased my 7 year old his first legit BMX bike!
Great place. Went to a lot of bike shops and ended up buying two here. Customer service is awesome. Everyone was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They taught us everything we needed to know before we left and adjusted everything for us. We were really impressed.
Coming in and knowing very little about the technical side of bikes myself, the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The shop itself is very clean and organized, and they have a very wide selection of both bikes and gear, all of which is at or below MSRP. They were very friendly and enthusiastic about bikes, and even helped me pick out a great one that suited my needs perfectly! The discounts, warranties, and extended service they throw in with your purchases are definitely an added bonus. Would definitely recommend!
From riding my old GT Performer and Robinson SSTs to the shop back in the 90s, to hauling in my old man Schwinn nowadays, Gordy and the crew there have ALWAYS been #1. Always loved just wandering the shop, chatting and looking at more bikes!
I went in to buy some stuff for my brother as a present. He purchased his bike there so I told the staff what kind and they gave me all sorts of ideas of things he may need, both high and low priced items. I received excellent opinions and felt like they really care for the sport and their customers. My brother was completely thrilled about all his new bike gear. I highly recommend stopping in!
Purchased several bikes for my family and self over the years and always a family rate experience from this family owned business. Thanks for always providing great service.
Very friendly great place to have your bike repair
Great bike shop. Best in city and area. Will work to make you happy. Extensive quality bikes. Repairs fast and well done. Will allow you to put your bike on layaway. Has all kinds of extras. Ive bought all my bikes here.
Best bike shop on the planet. Great selection of bikes for all kinds of riders - from casual to serious road, mountain bike and triathlon racers. Plus they really take care of the local people that just need bikes or repairs for their kids. These guys LOVE bikes and their customers and it shows in every visit to the bike shop. Great local Grand Rapids business!
With the service they have shown me in the past, I will proudly say I think it is probably the best bike shop in west Michigan. I will make the drive from Kalamazoo when the time comes They are the only place I will go for my serious bike purchases. Some things are just worth the drive.
Since I discovered these guys last year, I have been in 6 times, for various reasons (never for the same thing twice), and they have performed well each time - two tune-ups, and couple of other repairs, and some equipment. Last week, I tragically broken the seat off my bike on a long ride and had to ride standing up the last 7 miles (thank God it happened there and not earlier). So, I took it in to get it fixed (the seat was damaged, but they did not recommend I replace it, as it was most cosmetic), and they did that well. While I was there, they suggested I change the tires, as they were the knobby ones on a hybrid bike. I am 69 years old, so I need all the help I can get. Well, they put on the smooth center ones with knobby exteriors for stability on dirt and they panned out marvelously. I bettered my previous best by over 20 seconds per mile on a 34 mile ride. One thing about these guys - they will never recommend anything you dont need. They are not into jacking up the bill, unlike Village Bike. These guys are aces. But, if you dont like crazy busy places, dont go because this place is like a very active bee hive. They do have a lot of people working there and they are all helpful, so you never have to wait long.
Cant say enough positive things about Freewheeler Bike Shop. A great selection of bikes and accessories at a fair price! Very helpful and patient staff!! Most importantly, the best service of any shop I have ever dealt with. After visiting several bike shops in West Michigan prior to purchasing two new bikes last year, very happy with the pre and post purchase support we have received from Freewheeler!
I brought my bike in to get the chain replaced, and tune up. Told me it would be a couple days and $80. They called me the next afternoon and said it was ready! And it was under $80. When they brought it out to me I didnt notice it, they had cleaned the years of mud, spider webs, and dust off from it! It rode and looked like a brand new bike. Very nice and knowledge staff. Customer service is second to none.
We walked into the store and was greeted like we were old friends, even though it was our first time. We found everything we needed and with so much help and knowledge and pricing was a little lower than other places we had been to on some items. We would definitely make the trip back there for future needs.
Brought my FELT road bike in for a repair...these guys were amazing! Didnt make me feel dumb even though Im a rookie biker! Super affordable & they even threw in some extras for me! Highly recommended!!
Perfect. Pat was a great help!!
I have been a customer of this shop since i was 3. My dad bought me my first bike from Gordy. Over the years I have gone back and will continue to go back to Freewheeler because the Owner is an amazing guy and he over the years has done a great job trying to keep the best help he can find. I love these guys and no matter where I live I will continue to travel to get my bikes from Gordy and they guys at Freewheeler. Thanks guys and keep up the great work!
Salesperson was very knowledgeable and wasnt pushy. I told him what I was looking for and he showed my the options from lowest price to highest. Good selections of bikes from entry level to racing. Store is busy is for reason. Store is smaller than some others but I am there to buy a bike not to check out the decor.
Took my bike in on Friday night. Asked politely if it could possibly be done before Saturday night so that I could get to work Monday. Was told this was no problem. I needed new brake cables and brake shoes and asked that both be done. I was quoted $14 for both sets of brakes and $12 each for cables which seemed reasonable. Saturday came and went and I was never called to pick it up. Monday morning on my lunch break I called them and they had not even started it. Half an hour later they called to say that it was finished. When I went to pick it up after work they had only replaced the back brake shoes. I was charged $21 for this, which means I was charged $14 for less than half an hours labor on something I could have done myself and was only having done because I figured I might as well while I was getting the cables fixed. Not only did they not fix the cables like I asked for, they clipped the rear one so short I can no longer make any adjustments to it and argued with me about what I had asked them to do in the first place. The overall treatment I received on both visits (dropping off and picking up) was shady and condescending. I will not be returning and do not recommend this place to anyone. Find another bike shop, Grand Rapids has plenty.
Best in sales best in mechanic best service in all of Michigan! They know their stuff and fun to be around. Fair prices and staff willing to take time to answer questions. Get out and ride!
Hands (actually feet) down, best in the business
Knowledgeable, professional. Great mechanics
After being treated really poorly at Village Bike Shop on Plainfield by one of the floor saleswomen, I took some advice to check out Freewheeler on West Leonard. They were fantastic. Expect a little bit of a wait, because they are busy all the time-- but after my experience there, I understand why everyone in town is willing to wait for their service. I was attempting a low budget single-speed conversion to an old Schwinn World Tour. Kurt and Seth helped me piece together what Id need and even kept me within the budget I had.It was an outstanding experience. I will always give them my business from here on out. I am so grateful that they were willing to be patient and work with me on the project. I finished my bike last night thanks to them-- and it rocks. :)
This little shop is amazing. They have a huge selection of bikes in stock. Customer service was excellent. We were very pleased with our purchase and experience. We will continue to give them our business.
Purchased my first quality bike here 23 yrs ago and just brought my son in to get a Kink BMX. Great experience and helpful staff
