Another great spot to eat on Washington Avenue.Prices are reasonable, good location, and great food. My favorite was the caramel churros. They were fresh and you had a selection of caramel or chocolate. This restaurant utilizes local companies. The soda is locally made. So they do not serve name brand sodas at the dispenser.Food - 3 starsWe ordered the following: Baja taco, Pescado taco, and Cameron taco. The Baja taco was not as appealing as the pescado taco. The batter took away from the flavor and taste of the fish. Now the Peacado ( grilled fish) was delicious. It had good flavor and all tacos had chipotle sauce. The chipotle sauce added the extra flavor and the tacos were stuffed. Important to note: they make HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS!Baja TacoBattered Fish, Onion, Cilantro, Cabbage, Tomato, Chipotle Sauce.Pescado TacoGrilled Fish, Onion, Cilantro, Cabbage, Tomato, Avocado, Chipotle Sauce.Camaron TacoGrilled Shrimp, Grilled Mozzarella, Cabbage, Tomato, Avocado, Chipotle Sauce.Churros(3) Filled with Chocolate or Caramel.Customer service - 3 starsPrice - 3 dollar signsWe had four tacos, 1 order of churros and two drinks. The cost came out to around $32Tacos $3.95Churros $6.25Cleanliness- 3 starsThe sitting area is small but clean and presentable.Restroom - 2 starsThe hand soap dispenser was not working and had graffiti on the door. The floors were sticky. Good note, the sink was nice.
The tacos are reasonably priced for the large amounts of filling. The corn tortillas are classic, medium thick, fresh-made and those shelf-stable chewy ones other taquerias push off. They have really great quesadillas and with a few choices of meat additions. The Mexican Street Corn I ordered came in a cup, which was pretty fantastic...but, if they could have roasted ear-corn on the ready...this place probably would have a line down Washington Avenue.Overall, if you want classic taco truck favorites, but dont want to wait in line outside and other restaurants are too full or closing their kitchens for the night, stop on by and youll probably make this your regular go-to taco bar!
Exceeded my expectations! Burritos were off the chain, asada fries were delicious and I like their salsa selection. Definitely will come back if Im in the area.
Don’t listen to the negative reviews, this place has authentic California style Mexican food. As someone who grew up in California I would know. The California burrito is full of flavor and good quality meat. The salsa bar is excellent, especially their habanero salsas! Friendly service and even better food. This place puts Tex-Mex to shame.
Delicious fish and shrimp baja tacos, one of the best places in H-Town. Fresh ingredients, full of flavor. Favorite place for real baja fish tacos. Hand made 🌽 tortillas. Everything is so so good!
Delicious tacos. Options to upgrade fish if you want. The batter in the CABO taco is one of the best ones Ive ever had. Great salsa options, the habanero green salsa is perfect amount of heat.
Customer service is nice but the food was not. I saw all the great reviews about this spot but when I checked it out I noticed the atmosphere is catered the surrounding environment. The food looks delicious but lacks flavor and originality. The burrito taste like bland Chipotle, tacos de Carne asada taste like Taco cabana tacos and the elote is like water down can corn with no taste. So if you want overpriced bland fast food this is a spot to check out. Wont be coming back here anymore.
This place has incredible tacos! We just found it and have already been back. Their tacos are very reasonably priced. You should definitly try the fish tacos! Right off Washington so very easy to access as well.
Love this place! Def a go to for me. Delicious stacked tacos with late night service on weekends. Also listed on Uber Eats for delivery!
Exellent tacos! Even better than in Cabo de San Lucas itself! Highly recommend! Very casual and laid back.
Everything was good except the fish in the fish taco. Good salsa bar. Good service and friendly employees. I think it was a farmed fish from Asia.
Thr chicken taste was not fresh-cooked... it was a just taco
The staff was so nice and professional. I will be visiting again soon. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Have had the Cali burrito here like 50 times. The Carne fries are also excellent! Love sitting on the rooftop too. Sometimes its locked so you just gotta ask em to unlock it. Good for kids and covid! After eating here will walk over to three brothers and get some desert!
Great food, fresh, excellent blend of flavors, and awesome value! One of my new favorite spots to grab a quick bite!
Have to start off by saying this food is good. Swung in for lunch as soon as it opened. Good call cause the line formed fast. The service was nice. I ordered the grilled fish taco and a taco pastor. The pastor was different. Had an interesting tangy season. Tried a few of the salsas from the bar. Also ordered a side of elotes. The elotes was the best. That alone will get me to come back.
Meh, nothing to write home about. Service is slow, food quality is mediocre, and flavors are muted.
Excellent burritos and tacos. Their Mexican rice is PERFECT. The salsa bar has limited options but is all freshly made and top quality.
This place really surprised me. Better than Berry Hill! Had their Baja Taco(battered fish) and the Camarón taco(grilled shrimp) both on corn tortilla. Tortillas were hand made and delicious. Also very good in size, the shrimp taco was a little smaller but was the most tasty. Fresh and savory cabbage, avocado and pineapple. Only critique is their tortilla chips are not very good - inconsistent chips and too greasy at times. Also the deco and furniture doesn’t really go together, pretty eclectic. Big plus - the habanero salsa was on point! Perfect balance of heat and flavor. Looking forward to my next visit!
Cabo Baja has a good selection of more traditional tacos. The Camaron (shrimp) taco is awesome. The shrimp is well big, plump, juicy and well seasoned. It’s complemented with a great house made chipotle sauce. The staff is friendly and service is fast. There always seems to be available tables. There’s a great selection of house made salsas. The chipotle is my favorite. It’s creamy, but doesn’t have too much heat.Decent parking in the back.
LOVE THIS PLACE! I got shrimp tacos and my husband got a shrimp bowl and both were full of food. I could only eat one taco because it was very filling. We also got fries (tacos and fries - what more can you ask for??) and churros. Both were delicious. The non-fried food was fresh and tasty and the fried food was a fun treat!
Passed by this place for years, finally tried it and it was pretty good! Lots of great tachos and burritos with some custom twists. Not sure if they make their own hot sauces, but they have a big selection and theyre all pretty good.
Every time I come here, I recount the time I overheard someone mention how amazing it was. The burritos are stuffed, not with massive amounts of rice and beans, but with the fish or meat that you ordered. Their salsa bar has great flavors. Even their drink machine has good sodas.Random: try the fried avocado taco. Also you can get the grilled fish in a burrito. Im always torn between the battered fish and the grilled fish.
Does not matter what you order! Everything is delicious! Explore different things and just enjoy! You wont be disappointed with anything you order! OH!! Get the corn on the cob!! Seriously! And your welcome!!
We have eaten at Cabo ever since it opened. We drive almost 50 mile to eat at this authentic Mexican grill. The food is the best and the staff is outstanding and have made us feel like family. We love them and the food. If you are looking for San Diego style Carneia Asada you will find it here!! If I could put more stars I would.
Food was Awesome, customer service could be alot better as far friendliness!!!! Very Clean!!!! Good Enviornment, Peacful Location!!!!
Food is delicious. Service is friendly and service is fast.
GREAT CARNE ASADA FRIES
The food is decent. The churros are awesome! A little $$$, but worth checking out.
The Fish Tacos are really really good!! I will definitely be back!!
The tacos were decent. My corn tortilla was torn in multiple places and soggy, I opened it as soon as it was given to me, so there was no excuse. I ordered 2 tacos and the 3 people who ordered after me got there carne asada fries, burrito, and 4 tacos before I did. There was hardly any guacamole on my carne asada taco.
Nice quaint spot with Cali style Mexican food. The Pescado tacos are delicious, grilled fish with a light cabbage salsa and a healthy slice of avocado. I also had the carne asada burrito and though it had a little too many beans, it was still pretty good. The burrito is a meal by itself, and two tacos would have been enough to fill me up at lunch.
It’s astonishing how this place has so many stars when the food was disgusting & bland.I spent $70 with my wife and kids. We all left still hungry and wishing we would have spent our money on dining out else where rather than feel like I made the regretful decision to dine in and give this spot a try. Beyond disappointed. It’s safe to say I wouldn’t recommend this spot to anyone. Great cashier & customer service, horribly bland food lacking any real flavor profile.
I have always loved this place. It brings me back to laid back days on the boat with grilled fish tacos! Dang good!
This place smells great!
Delicious tacos. I mean it - some of the best tacos Ive eaten in my life. Their frozen margaritas are good and the caramel churros are a treat! Sauces like cilantro dressing/salsa are free here, while at some neighboring taco shops are 50 cents. With so many tacos shops on Washington, Cabo Baja is one of the best!
Yummy tacos and their sauce game is on point! Favorite tacos are the Pastor and Nepal.
Tasty fare.Fajita French fries are filling and good.Nice up stairs outdoor patio.Staff was very friendly and helpful.Plenty of parking.
We arrived 2 mins before close. We felt so bad but nothing else was open. The staff welcomed us in and didnt show a single bit of frustration that we showed up. The food was so good. We both got burritos. A carne asada burrito and a chicken burrito. Both were massive and so tasty. The salsa options are plentiful and really good. Definitely be back to this place! Excellent.
Service was real good soon after opening on a early weekday a couple weeks ago, tacos/all food was excellent, but, the ice dispenser had actual mold inside and it got on the ice cubes a lot. Luckily my little girls noticed it, before we started drinking our beverages. My Wife couldnt so they exchanged hers for a bottle of water. But we dumped ours and drank them without ice. Then they did turn if off right away and quit selling fountain drinks. So hopefully next time we visit this fine restaurant, we will enjoy the complete experience.
This is our favorite burrito place. Great prices, unique and delicious burritos, and super filling! Also, all the salsa and sauces you could ever ask for.
It was great 👍 and affordable. And the frozen margaritas are the best .I will go back.
The California burrito here is delicious. I lived in California for several years and used to eat cali burritos a lot. I was so excited when I found out that Cabo Baja had them. I drive 40 minutes one way just to come and eat their California burrito!
Best tacos I’ve had in Houston so far! Their tortillas are made to order! Delicious!
Had baja/carne asada/pollo asado/pastor/camaron taco. I would have given 3-4 stars if there was no pastor taco or camaron taco. Yes, yes, yes to the pastor taco. The marinated pork was so flavorful and the combination with the pineapple was just perfect, even though I don’t like warm pineapple! The shrimp had delicious flame grilled smell and was so juicy. The others were not bad, but they were not really interesting.
Amazing gem of a taco joint w the best salsas. This place has to compete with el rey, el tiempo, taco deli, taqueria laredo, and velvet taco. Each of those places are awesome in some way.But this place.....Ungodly amazing battered fish tacos. Gourmet quality! I would expect to pay 30% more in a formal sit down.Add on top some of the best creamy verde and roja salsa - like Umami good - and u have a winning recipe.Get two or three #1 tacos and a bunch of their creamy salsas and rise in bliss.
Have gotten Cabo many times and they never disappoint. The Baja taco is always so fresh and crispy and the breakfast tacos always kill it. Great prices too!
An absolute Houston culinary gem here! Incredible food, the building & location are amazing, rooftop seating, perfectly spacious dining area and the staff is amazing. Da beers, perfectly battered fish tacos, grilled fish tacos, grilled cactus is brilliant.....do yourself a favor and hit this spot up.
This place has good tacos. My favorite of the ones I tried where the baja and the camarón tacos. They were well made. This is the closest I have gotten to tacos that remind me of the fish tacos I had in cabos. Definitely a good place to go if you want baja style tacos. The carne asada tacos where meh. They werent bad but they where just passable. Id skip them. The shrimp tacos where as good as the baja tacos. It would be hard for me to decide which I prefer more. I believe if you come here I would have both since I would not be able to decide which one I would want more. The salsas where all good. The ones I enjoyed the most with the baja and shrimp tacos was the one that was light green it was mixed with sour cream. The other was a light orange yellow one that was very good. The green and red salsas where passable but I would not add them to the shrimp and or baja tacos since they dont go as well as the ones I have mentioned previously. I didnt get to try the burritos but Id expect that the baja burrito would be as good as the baja taco since the ingredients are very similar. I got all the tacos on flour, but in Mexico Ive had baja tacos on corn tortillas and they are very good so id expect this to be the case in this restaurant as well.
Staff seems super friendly and the prices are not bad. I also appreciate the variety at the salsa bar. Unfortunately, my food was rather mediocre. I ordered chips&queso and the Baja and Carne Asada tacos. My fish was mostly batter but otherwise tasted good. The beef had the texture like it came straight from the fridge actually. That was disappointing. Curiously, the tacos were wrapped in what looked like squares of printer paper... Which was wet and torn when I went to pick up my taco. The queso was really good. This seems like it could be a decent place with just a few kinks to work out.
The best fried fish tacos! Also really like their steak and shrimp tacos.
Good fish taco. And carne asada fries. Great sauces too. Very friendly and helpful ! :) highly recommend.
Great food and service very good portions
The food was decent, service was decent. Nothing to write home about. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here but if I were near it and hungry I wouldn’t mind eating here again.
Carne asada fries. I dont know any other place in Houston you can get them.
Wow great tacos! Taste sooooo much better than Velvet Taco. Tried them on a whim before hitting the town to prevent from getting too tipsy, and they did not disappoint. I had the fried avocado taco and friends had beef, chicken, and pastor. All delicious and tender! Salsas were awesome and just the right amount of spice! I loved the super spicy green one!
Great food and service.
The chips and queso hit the spot, but the tacos were somehow boring and bland despite all the toppings and flavors. Very disappointing.
This is one of the best hidden gems in the Heights/Washington area. Their food is dang good. Nothing on their menu is bad and Ive pretty much had everything, so I can confidently say that. As an added bonus, compared to other Uber Eats/GrubHub options, its fairly inexpensive to order and have it delivered. Keep doing what your doing!
4/20/2020 530pm The girl at the register was nice, the portion size are good, I enjoyed the chips and queso and sauces. I wasnt a fan of the California burrito the main reason for my visit. the fries ruined it they were soft and mushy it reminded me of potatoes in a breakfast taco. Ill will comeback and try another item off the menu Ill give them one more try.
THE BEST SHRIMP TACOS IN HOUSTON!!!!
Damn good tacos and variety
The food is solid! I never remember to take a pic before I eat . I get a burrito easy on the sauce . Grab a beer and sit on the roof. Great every time
Im having a hard time finding an amazing burrito. This place was good, but nothing Id go searching for. I felt a lack of creativity on the menu and the shrimp in my burrito were overcooked (rather over than under though).
Love the carne asada fries
The flavor is outstanding. The price is really reasonable for the quality food you are getting. I have tried a lot of food here in Houston and this place is by far the best!
Very unique interior that has a tropical vibe. Place looks like a converted apartment or house building. Great food, but I always order the same thing so I dont know about the rest of the menu. Good service. Fun casual setting.
Ordered the nopal grilled cactus mozzarella tomato and cilantro along with the baja grilled fish onion cilantro cabbage and chipotle sauce. 10:20pm, not busy maybe 2 customers. Hot sauces were all very good different levels of heat. Food came out hot and fresh with the fish being extra crispy... perfect fish taco yet could have had a bit more fish than 1 strip @ 3.50 each. All in all very good tacos. Nopal taco was awesome btw. Service was meh.... definitely needs training. Prices a bit on the high side but all things considered I would probably go back. -D
I have tasted Mexican food this authentic since I visited San Diego. I ordered a burrito, but its huge. And its so good, I was planning on just eating half to save on calories...but I couldnt put it down!! Its in a great location downtown and I highly recommend it for fast service and EXCELLENT food. Go there! Support local businesses!
I love their rooftop. It is a cool place to sit and eat at night. Their salsa collection is decent but I wish their tacos were better and they had more variety. Or let’s say I couldn’t pick many favorites out the variety they offer. But still, decent tacos, great seating and location. Especially the roof top at night.
