Great place to eat. It’s a vintage place like a trip back in time. This has been a restaurant sine 1923. Part of the building was a pharmacy and then a post office over time and now is an antique store.Great breakfast menu cooked fresh for you. A real diner experience from history w homemade pies and cakes as desert plus ice cream floats.Very reasonable prices and good service. We had big breaks plates and drinks. Our total bill was $22. Minor ding was the biscuits appear to have been frozen over handmade.Lots of locals eat here. A great place to go. Recommended.

Great old school diner at the edge of the Heights (been in operation since 1923). Family-oriented or good for a quick solo visit. Large menu choices. Great service. If your looking for a solid throwback dining experience check these guys out. Parking is limited, but not a deal breaker.

A great family-owned diner. The food is great! Made to order! They know you by name, if you come on a regular basis. Daily specials. Next door is a antique gift shop! FYI: The gift shop is closed on Tuesdays. It used to be called Yale Pharmacy. My mom used to come here, sit on the bar stools and drink homemade malts/shakes. Which they still have today. Definitely a must if youre visiting from out of town or if youre a native Houstonian. Make sure to ask for April to be your waitress. Very accommodating & great personality!

Will NOT return The eggs had shells in them, but the pancakes were good

12:38pm, Thursday:I ordered a chocolate shake, double cheeseburger, onion rings. Husband ordered an egg salad, fries.YSG makes a damn good milkshake but it’s a small amount for the $3.95. Nevertheless, I’m not complaining! It hit the spot.We wanted to sit at a booth but they were all dirty at the time. Busboy could’ve been quicker with clearing off the tables.I was not impressed with the onion rings. As you can see in the pic, I got 5 of them but the onions were so small that it was more breading than onion. There were more onions on my burger than in the onion rings. I saw “char-grilled” on the menu but I don’t taste any charcoal at all. It’s just grilled. It’s not a bad hamburger at all though. For the $10.95 I paid for the burger and onion rings, I expected a little more onion rings (or at least more onion IN the onion rings). Still, this place has been here since 1923 or so and it’s a nice place to eat lunch! The nitpicky stuff makes me give it a three-star rating but I’m sure we will be back again! My husband absolutely loved his egg salad- said it was the best he has had in a long time.

Majorly disappointing experience. Im new to Houston and have been trying to find a great diner type restaurant. Houston seems to be seriously lacking in that department because every place we went to has been horrible. Not because the service was bad, but because the food literally tasted like they just warmed it straight from the freezer.Never even got to try the food at this place. As soon as we walked in there was no one to greet us. All the workers looked up at us, so they knew we were there, but no welcome, NOTHING. There was a sign saying to please seat yourself, which we tried to but the only empty booth we could find was still dirty. As we stood there like a group of buffoons we still never got a greeting from anyone. And then a couple of ladies walked in after us and seated themselves at the dirty booth, okay...Finally we did notice an empty, clean table in the very back corner next to some stacked up boxes, so seated ourselves there. After waiting about 10 minutes for any sort of acknowledgement from the staff we decided to leave. How this place manages to stay in business is beyond me.

If its kind of late for breakfast and too early for lunch, try a combination of both. For example, the chicken fried steak with breakfast. Also, there are lunch specials. Waiters are very efficient offering refills.Afterwards, take a look at the antique items next to lunch area. Place is popular since it was full on a Monday morning.

Found a new gem of Houston in the Heights! The food was delicious, hot, and fresh. The menu had a great selection of breakfast and lunch plates. The service was good. This was our first time here, but I could see that the staff was familiar with the customers. It kind of gave me that small town feel. I also liked the unique layout. Its half restaurant and half antique shop, and they still have the old Yale Pharmacy sign up. Great first experience. We will definitely be returning soon!!

Yale Street grill, another disappointing place this is my first time going there. Everybody keep telling me how good the Yale Street grill is! So Im going to have to tell him bad experience for me. I went in there sat at the counter no acknowledgment of high it took them 15 minutes to come give me a menu so when I got the menu and they brought my water I drink some of the water, and looked at the menu. So how can a restaurant have seasonal steaks, steaks are not seasonal if the t-bone is in season then you can get it T-Bones I served all year round and I forgot the other steak I think it was a sirloin or whatever or ribeye that is seasonal what kind of place does that a restaurant this is another place where everybody goes I was going there because somebody said they serve fresh turkey burgers and thats what I wanted a turkey burger. Then I look down on the menu I like soup all year round I dont know about most people but I like super all year round. Thats another thing thats seasonal! So I dont know whats in people that like to go to subpar restaurants but I dont. Im just giving advice I like good food and quality food if Im going to spend my money.

Majorly declined since change of ownership. No apparent management.Terrible kitchen timing, I was served cold mushy hashbrowns, soggy cooked from frozen chicken fried steak. Had to wait for gravy that tastes like raw flour and houston tap water. Never got my sausage, which I am eternally greatful for after one bite of the rest. Spoiled ketchup bottle on the tables. You can smell the grease trap in the dinning room. My dinidaybyhaving n was served half raw bacon, not undercooked, literally one end cooked, the other end raw. The food is acceptable. Keep your expectations low, but it is not terrible. My wifes coffee had a beetle in it, which admittedly can happen. Im trying to understand these 4 stars people are giving this place. I gave it one star because the waiter was nice and that is the only reason. Food is precooked and kept hot under heat lamps (bacon, grits ect) bacon tough pancake rubbery. You dont get all your food at one time, I would hate to see what happens when a big party comes in. I ordered the steak omlette NEWs FLASH that isnt steak it looked like the the stuff they feed us in high-school. Omelette was messy like my 10 year old cooked it wish I has took a picture before I sent it back. Hashbrowns were burnt. I have never had food and had to leave to go to another restaurant just to get full.... I HAVE NEVER HAD FOOD THIS BAD. It is time to upgrade and move with the times Decor is dead.

Nostalgic feel. Went in for early (7:30) Saturday morning breakfast. Looked like a lot of regulars. Food was good and quantities were just right. Waitress came to table about five minutes after we were seated. Asked about drinks and left menus. Took more than ten minutes to come back to table with one coffee and two glasses of water. The entire place wasnt even one-quarter full, so not sure why the delay. Finally was able to place order. Fortunately we werent in a rush, but still not pleased with speed of service. When food was delivered the same waitress didnt remember what food went to who (there were only two if us and the orders werent close to similar). Id recommend the waitress learn how to associate orders better to establish rapport. If service was better this would get five stars. McDonalds is across the street and was busy for breakfast time, so people do see that service is important.

A fun touch of nostalgia in the Heights. This is an old-fashioned diner that shares space with a cluttered antique shop. Ironically, that makes for a fun atmosphere for Saturday morning breakfast or workday lunch. They have daily specials and your usual breakfast fare. Price point is right for this kind of place as well. But you need to know one thing, its not fast. Every time Im there for lunch, it takes a good minute to get my food. If youre on a time crunch during the workday, look elsewhere for a lunch. If youre job is flexible enough to sit for an hour+, then this may be a fun stop for you.
