I bought my first guitar here 20 years ago. I couldnt play a lick but I wanted to learn. I asked one of the sales associates to test drive several guitars for me and give me his opinion. He was totally cool about it. Not condescending. He made his recommendation and twenty years later I play that guitar every single day. Its just a great shop with great people who love music and want to share it.

Ive purchase a few guitars and amps here over the years, it was my brothers favorite guitar shop, hes the one who first brought me here. I decided to get another guitar and amp and I ended up at Rockin Robin; I found exactly what I was looking for, a sweet Kustom amp and an as sweet Fender Strat. Got it home, plugged in and enjoyed myself for several minutes. The guitar was set up nicely with new strings, the amp put out the perfect sound. I couldnt be happier. It was nice seeing my late brothers artwork on display, it was a great visit to a great shop run by great people. Thanks, Bart, I really appreciate it.

Great guitar shop thats been around for years. They have used guitars for good prices, some rare and special as well. Some guitars that are signed or belonged to famous musicians that are not for sale just cool collections. Used amps and pedals and just for fun some used surfboards! They do excellent repair work and tune ups. I just had my guitar in for repair of the nut and a little neck straightening. They did a great job and now my guitar is sweet!

This is just about the coolest place for music enthusiasts that you can possibly find. I bought a vintage Gibson acoustic and had my Breedlove repaired for very reasonable prices. Its a wonderful place. The staff is super helpful, and the owner is friendly and available if you need to ask any questions. I also like that its an independently owned small business. I like to support local businesses when possible. I absolutely suggest that you check it out!

Yeah this isn’t just from me, it’s from everyone that I have talked to about this place within the music industry in houston. We all hate this place... employees just act like you are in there to break all the guitars and are standoffish and rude. Such a shame. I have never felt comfortable in here for one minute and I know for a fact I am not alone.

Review №15

I went here with my daughter (18) to check out what guitars and amps they had (for me), and to look for a relatively cheap bass (for her). We looked around and I did come across a couple of Peavey amps (a 6505MH and a Heritage 2x12 combo, which happened to be the first tube amp I owned, and that was in 99... So, it was nostalgic to me). I already had in my mind I was buying it, but first we had to find her a bass. We came across a cheap (less than $200) bass resting on a stand next to a stool. I picked it up and handed it to her, asking if it was comfortable (btw, she can already play piano and guitar). She liked it. She was also happy when she realized I was actually going to buy it.... Then one of the salesmen walks up, takes the bass from her, then says This is supposed to be on the wall, so I gotta find a spot for it. Let me know if you see anything you like., then he just walks off with the bass. We both stood there, baffled, and I didnt want to cause a scene in front of my daughter, so we just walked out. No bass. No amp. No thanks. Im giving it an extra star, only because of the string selection. Also, its more of a guitar museum than a store (most of the guitars on the wall arent for sale).

As a local shop, Rockin Robin carries a lot of really cool items that youd never find at a Guitar Center or online. The staff is generally very knowledgeable and they have equipment for all playing abilities and price points. That being said, youd be hard pressed to find a special deal on items because their prices are average to high (but fair). They also dont repair amps in store, but instead work with a local specialist.I bought two guitar pedals last time I was there as a birthday gift to myself and they threw in a free pack of strings! It was cool, and definitely not something you would experience at a Guitar Center.Note: they also sell surfboards, which is cool but never made much sense to me. :)

Rockin Robin is A GREAT GREAT MUSIC STORE......one of the very few of the classic stores of the past where the sales people REALLY KNOW THEIR PRODUCTS. They match chain store prices in most cases but dont have you buy incorrect useless gear. Ja
Review №34

To all of the reviewers posting negative comments, you must realize one thing - communication. Now, before you say that the staff at Rockin Robin are poor communicators, think about the store. When you walk into Guitar Center, a salesperson wants you to buy anything, preferably something expensive, but anything at the very least. At Rockin Robin, the staff wants their customers to buy something that will be loved, enjoyed, played and cherished for a lifetime. If they wanted to sell you anything, they would have a bunch of cheap instruments that sell easily. However, they find quality vintage or custom shop items which the staff services before they take any money from a client. Thats right, I said client. See, were arent just customers, we are clients of Rockin Robin. Last week, I came into the store looking for a Holy Grail pedal. The guy behind the counter said, Well, we do have some nice reverb pedals and units, but the Holy Grail has its own sound and quality. He couldve sold me anything else, but he turned down the opportunity to place something in a clients hands that wasnt truly desired. On another occasion, I sat down at a Fender Rhodes on display and found that the Volume and Tone controls were malfunctioning. The owner came up to me and said, If you would like to buy the Piano, I have to repair it first. I dont want to sell it to you broken. I informed that I had a technician in San Antonio who works on Rhodes Pianos and I would be happy to take it as-is. They declined because they didnt, want to place a broken instrument in the hands of a valued customer.People, please walk into the store and introduce yourself if someone doesnt say, Hi. This staff is truly helpful and proud of their work. Ive walked into the store at least 100 times and only purchased guitar strings and a Fender Guitar case. However, they always greet me and tell me about a new tube amp or Telecaster arrival. Remember, if you are going to be one of their clients, you have to let them know who you are and what you like. What would you do if you wanted to browse through the section of Guitars at the PRS shop that they decline to send to retail shops because they were demo models for Carlos Santana or other Musicians? They wouldnt try to put the Guitars in your hands unless you asked if there were any previously-demo models available for sale.Give Rockin Robin a chance. Everyone hates what Wal-mart did to the smaller shops like Gibsons, Bills, Sears and Ace Hardware. So, dont support what Guitar Center and other supercenters are doing to Rockin Robin.

I would give 5 stars if parking were better. The store itself is cozy, the staff friendly and ready to assist the customer. Which I really appreciate. The box stores dont even come close. There is a nice variety of instruments available. There are also some fabulous items which are not for sale, but nice to see. If you are looking for an instrument, check them out. They do have a website showing the inventory, so shop from home if you choose.

Its a great place and of course been here forever... Been in and out of this joint for 30 years... Recently came in and was in need of cash (not cool), and sold my Boss digital delay pedal (brand new basically) I used all of maybe 3 times, so was used but in excellent condition... Offered me 40 bucks... I understand this is a business and I needed the cash badly and took their offer but cant help but think they could take better care of long time customers in need of a little help... And know for sure it will be marked up way more than even 50 bucks a 10 dollar profit... Anyway, if you need cash for gear but not too concerned about being taken advantage of for being a broke starving artist this place will help you out with that regardless who you are... Regular or not...

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.I contacted the store Rockin Robin guitars asking them if they could lower a price on a guitar as I dont have much to spend due to having to pay for school. Instead of giving a nice reply or a simple no, I was instead given a string of rude replies and also told that someone working there has a background in IT and was strongly suggested they could track my IP address and find me. Pretty weird to threaten that just for asking for a lower price. They also straight up called me an idiot and scam artist when I am not and rather low on spending money due to having to pay for college. They also were mocking me and everything i said. I said I was planning to leave a poor review after this due to their poor customer service, rude attitude and disrespect. They then tried to claim it would be grounds for a lawsuit, since no business has transacted here for giving a poor review. The person I was corresponding with also said maybe I should call your school in an attempt to threaten me to not leave a bad review. It isnt grounds for a lawsuit due to customer service being apart of the buying experience. Plus the fact that schools cant do anything and have no part in this.Save your money, buy elsewhere. Theres better people and deals out there.

The shop seems like it has good selection. Today I had an instrument in my cart for checkout, and if it wasnt for a very memorable conversation I had with a condescing representative of theirs named Cassandra a little over two years ago they wouldve made $2900. Cassandra took exception to me critiquing her condesding service bc I thought her reply to me asking if they would do better on a piece I thought was priced higher than I could pay for the same piece elsewhere (I was right.) Thankfully the stores name was recognizable, otherwise I would have actually made the purchase, phew! I was able to find the conversation and made my purchase elsewhere, since I was previously told by Cassandra they would never sell me anything and would immediately refund anything I purchased and if I didnt like it call and speak with Bart. That would have been a rational response had I actually said something to warrant that type of reaction, but judging from other poor reviews thats probably her mo. Sure youll probably sell the pieces Ive now bought twice somewhere else, but maybe Bart would care to know because someone else made that money instead, eh Cassandra?
