I dont know its something about it I dont like, maybe the vibe or service! Either way its something BUT the ice cream was pretty good. I only got the shakes and it was a little to milky but overall it was good and my son loved his. I say visit and judge it for yourself because I truly believe its and hit or miss tupe of place. I probably wont go back because they dont seem to follow the whole washing hands thing but still to each their own.
I loved the fact that they were open till 11, and it was packed Ill say. 2 flavor samples per person, and Ill be honest you wont need more then that. Great choices to pick from and we were definitely in the ice cream mood. The cat theme was funny and really added to the name obviously. We are definitely coming back to try the floats next time.
Jason is very kind, funny and patient. It was my first time and never heard of this business. They were open late as I was craving ice cream after an event. The flavors were interesting. So I went ahead with his suggestions and they were on point. I forgot which ones I had, but one was with beer and the other with rum. They were delicious on a waffle. Definitely going back
This is one of my favorite places in Houston. There is always something new to try and I have never been disappointed. The Chai Tea Coconut is absolutely incredible. They always have seasonal options and rotating items in addition to their staples. Worth the trip no matter where you are in Houston and the outdoor seating has been reopened so bonus
Ice cream was great; customer service was not. I cannot be certain why the group of people I was with received such bad service unlike the other customers there tonight, but I will probably not return because of it. When we arrived, there were 7 customers in the shop. The line was to the door, so we waited outside. Once 3 left, 3 of my friends tried to walk in. The Manager came from around their barrier to tell them they need to wait outside as they can only have 6 people in the shop at one time. There was no sign on the door stating this. We all waited and only went in when a customer left. Checkout process wasnt great at all. The only chocolate flavor they have is alcoholic so when trying to determine what my child, who was waiting outside with my husband, wanted instead, we were rudely told by a worker to close the door as it is letting in the humidity. Once done ordering, one of the friends with me was told by a worker to wait outside for the item they ordered; he was the only one asked to do this. Worst part is, as we sat and ate our ice cream outside, there was consistently 7-9 customers in the shop at one time and not one of them was asked to wait outside. Seems as though we were singled out. There are 9 people pictured in the photo... 9... not 6.
Always a good experience here. They have a set of flavors they keep year round but they have rotating flavors that also include soft serve as well. Ive been here more than a few times and every single person Ive brought with me has agreed, they have the best tasting unique flavors around. Ill make special trips to the heights just to come here, its that good.
This is the exclusive ice cream place for us in all of Houston thus far. Its an hour round trip easily but worth it. They have creamy, thick, rich cream but most importantly some amazing flavors. Check their website for their latest ones, but they do keep staples always in stock their milk chocolate stout, my personal fave. You can for sure taste the stout right away, no back end nonsense! They let you do plenty of sampling of course so feel free. Their brown butter waffle cones are scrumptious and compliment any ice cream you get. They have some other cool flavors in their freezer to the right of the counter, like the chili chocolate peanut push pop, which was really bursting with chili heat, just what I hoped for!! My wife said it was a bit too strong, you have been warned. They make other things like sundaes, and this seasonal one included cinnamon dust crunch, man that sounds good! See my pic for full description. Obviously we are regulars here and try to make everyone fat cat too!
Altogether, very creative but missed the mark on flavor and texture. Great customer service, cool atmosphere when walking in, cute marketing, and creative ice cream flavors and toppings. My wife and I got the Milk Chocolate Stout Waffle Cone and Banana Rum Ice Cream on waffle cones. The waffle cone was the best waffle cone I have ever had. The Milk Chocolate Stout was a little too much on the beer side and lacked mouth-filling flavor. The Banana Rum lacked a lot of flavor. The Ice Cream was milky in texture, melting very quickly even at night in an Air-Conditioned vehicle. The only way I can describe the flavors is that they were a little boring and lacked substance. I’d recommend coming here, but probably will not be back.
The best ice cream i ever had 100% hand made
Good texture and not overwhelmingly sweet. Overall great ice cream spot. Strawberries and cream was solid.
Fat Cat Creamery is a boutique ice cream shop on 19th and North Shepherd serving small batch ice cream and shakes. Their ice cream is incredibly well done - rich, smooth and creamy. I went two kinds of a vanilla and a coffee and cream all of which had unique twists on the classics. Be aware seating outdoors is limited.
Small nice store. The owner is really sweet and friendly. She offered us to try as many flavors as we wanted. I chose hot chocolate flavor but it was quite sweet for me. $3.85 for a scoop and each additional one is $1.60. If you want a cone, it’s $1.50 extra. Store is quite small but they do have outside seats.
First time going today! We found it randomly on Google and decided to try it. We most definitely will be back! The customer service was great. They were so nice and helpful. I loved their peach cheesecake ice cream. So fresh and delicious. Definitely worth the price plus they give you a lot. 10/10
Drove here 30 minutes and not what I expected. I thought the ice cream would taste different better, but I dont see the big hype nothing special. I got mint chocolate my kids got vanilla and strawberry cream they think the same as me. And customer service was horrible. The cashiers were so rude not even a thank you, the lady with glasses blond hair was so rude kept screaming to close the door. They seem bothered the line was getting long.I do not recommend this place Ill stick to Marble slab Creamery is way better more options . This place is overpriced with not much flavors, and not even good. Frozen ice cream even is a better choice. Dont go based on high reviews, Im picky about what I eat and this place is not good. Surprise people even go here.
Some might be turned away by the smaller selection of flavors but it really captures the “”less is more” saying. Ice cream is BURSTING with flavor, even without the toppings. Unique but not unappetizing flavors and such a cute, small place. Really feels like it’s own experience. Plus they have ube ice cream which is EXTREMELY hard to come by! If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I gladly would. Definitely a must!
Fat Cat is known for their new and innovative flavors, which I love! However after today’s experience I may never go back. I wanted to sample their new flavors and was told no without any explanation. Upon further inspection I see a sign that says sampling returns in July. So in less than 48 hours sampling will return, yet with no one in the store but one server and my family I cannot receive one simple sample. There are more germs having to touch the iPad screen that everyone touches to pay than exchanging a plastic spoon with a little ice cream on it. Very disappointing!!
Had to come here after a terrible experience at a local toy shop. Flavors are amazing and all natural. Left here feeling better than ever at the amazing service and selection.
Awesome place to sample different kinds ice cream ...but the strawberry cream took my heart it was delicious.. friendly service has a outdoor section to enjoy your dessert ..🥵if its not too hot
Ice cream was good, nothing amazing. What I LOVED (not) was how friendly the employee was. No hello, smile, nothing. She was especially strict about how you wear your mask (which she should be) yet was oblivious to the food handling. None of the staff were wearing gloves, the employee handling the register was also making orders, and her hair was not properly restrained at all.
Icecream pretty good . Employees at the front could be better. Not even a smile from them what a shame. The also have kind of an attitude when you ask questions about their jumbled up board behind them
The Mexican vanilla ice was delicious! Will definitely recommend!
Wasn’t impressed. Perhaps it was just my mood but the ice cream was okay nothing to drive across town for. I live in spring and prefer luliet creamery and bakery shop.
Was my favorite ice cream. In line and maskless woman working behind counter sneezes into her hand, smiles, and goes right back to work. Great COVID protocols. Bye bye
We dropped by around 9pm on a Saturday and there was still a line outside. The wait was not long, its about 10mins. The Sundae Special is very decadent and big enough to be shared by 2. The Cats Meow Mexican Vanilla is a good choice if you find yourself guessing what to order. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, there are no dining available, no sampling and the use of the restroom is not allowed.
Good place for some ice cream 😋😋😋😋 really liked the strawberry and cream delicious defenetly will come back!!!
Staying in Houston from Dallas for the week, boyfriend and I get a sudden craving for ice cream but its already 10 pm so basic ice cream places are closed, we saw this one was open until 11 pm (sorry for being those annoying customers that come in 30 minutes before close) but we were so excited we jumped in the car before looking at the menu onlinewhen we got there and saw the menu we were a bit hesitant and a little off put (our fault though, were the basic chocolate cone type of ice cream people) and this place has some pretty interesting mixed ice cream varieties that Im sure others loveI settled with strawberry milkshake and boyfriend chose a chocolate malt, and we also grabbed a pint of chocolate wasted to try when we got homethe shakes themselves were very good! great consistency and tasted very fresh and sweet!!!4/5 stars simply because I would have preferred some classic flavors for scoops, but thats just a personal preference on my side!
The long lines are a good indication of how amazing the ice cream and other frozen desserts are at Fat Cat Creamery. We tried the seasonal special called Summer Peach Sundae and it was incredible with blended peach and Mexican Vanilla ice cream between two butter biscuits. My family tried two of the popsicles and said they both were fantastic with very unique flavors. The staff is very friendly and tries to keep the line moving quickly. On weekends the few tables inside fill up pretty quickly so taking the ice cream to go may be the only option.
Can’t believe Masks are still required to order. One of the last few places requiring this. Y’all should Recommend wearing NOT require masks. Sadly you are loosing lots of local customers because of this.
If u are anywhere near this joint and find urself craving ice cream this IS the place. Wow, wow, wow. Small batches, large flavors, and frequently a line out the door, but dont despair as the line moves quickly most nights and is worth the wait. I love sitting on the small patio and enjoying with folks from all over. Cant wait to come back. Enjoy with a smile!
I LOVE THIS PLACE. SERIOUSLY. if this were down the street Id be 30 lbs heavier. The nice twist of quality ingredients with booze in some items. My go to is their coffee ice cream. As basic as it sounds, its very addicting! This is crack... Maybe because coffee ice cream is my kryptonite. This time, I got the rice crispy chocolate and the banana bread. Just WOW.Rice crispy chocolate was Rich and had bits of rice crispy. It was just so creamy!!! Simple flavors but worked so well together. Perfect on a hot summer day.The banana bread was my favorite of the two. Not sure if it was the banana bread bits, but this was just heavenly. I just finished a large meal before dessert and I thought of going back for a second ice cream!? Crazy? Or crazy good?Always cool people working, so helpful when it comes to respond new flavors. Only downside is that its very pricey. So if they moved down the street from me, Id not only be 30 lbs heavier but broke too. $17 for 2 scoops and a pint of coffee ice cream to go. Ouch. But yum!!
Always friendly and responsible staff and owners -Fat cat creamery is my favorite ice cream place in Houston. They dont have the most extensive menu, but they make up for it with amazing and creative flavors that rotate seasonally with fresh and local ingredients. Of their year round offerings their chocolate stout icecream is simply to die for, and their cones are delicious and house made. If you really want an indulgence, their sundaes often have homemade baked goods that are warm and phenomenal.
Came here with a couple friends and we cant wait to come back! The ice cream was absolutely delicious. I got a scoop of the horchata on their brown butter waffle cone with almond brittle on top. Staff was friendly and answered all our questions about the flavors. Definitely a must try if you love ice cream!
Due to COVID19 you cannot dine in only order to take out but thats ok it doesnt change the fact that the ice cream is delicious and the prices are fair. Hey, handmade in Houston with local ingredients you cant go wrong!!! So far we tried Stone Cold Cream Austin, Strawberry sorbet, and the Chai Tea and they are all so delicious, perfectly sweetened, and sooooo creamy! It is a must try. My family and I will definitely be back to try the other flavors!!!
This is one of my favorite places in Houston. There is always something new to try and I have never been disappointed. The Chai Tea Coconut is absolutely incredible. They always have seasonal options and rotating items in addition to their staples. Worth the trip no matter where you are in Houston and the outdoor seating has been reopened so bonus!
This is more of a novelty ice cream place, I would say its more for adults rather than a place to take you kids, wont be going again, only gave it 5 stars because of great service.
It was good, but nothing spectacular. Not alot of flavors to choose from.
By far the best ice cream in the Heights...often you get a great server as I did this visit...
No mask no service. That was the sign on the door 5/12/21. We and our dollars went elsewhere. Absolutely 0 tolerance for socialism!
Fat Cat is a place where you cant go wrong with any flavor. The description they give of the ice cream hits the taste every time. Have new flavors in rotation so you can try something new every occasional visit.
It was okay, very popular with locals, however I was looking for more selection
1st timer here. Peanut butter and strawberry jam ice cream was everything I thought it would be - divine. Also a scoop of cinnamon cheesecake - not bad. Topped with meringue kisses which I’ve never seen before. A delightful texture.I love that the waffle cone tasted home made and crispy. What a treat after a long day...Not pictured are the 3 slices of chocolate fudge that was eagerly consumed, definitely try it...Going back for more soon.
Terrible customer service. Rude employees. We left and spent money elsewhere. No wonder there were no customers in the store.
Yummie! I read Fat Cat Creamery is one the best ice cream in Houston and I tend to agree. Their Mexican Vanilla is awesome! Very creamy and super tasteful. The Chai Tea ice cream is also yummie. They get extra points because their cups are not plastic so kudos and thank you! Its a fairly small shop with very limited seating inside but they have a terrace outside.
Odd flavors. No chocolate without alcohol in it. The continued mask mandate is irritating.
As someone that will respect a business and what they ask, as long as it was asked in a respectful way. I was afronted when we entered and then were rudely shood outside by an employee. She loudly said can we not count? Then counted 10 people and sent the rest out. No where was it posted that there was a limit on people that could enter. All parishioners were wearing masks. After waiting we were able to enter and the employee had changed her tune with other costomers apologizing about the wait. When we approached the counter we were given a cordial enough reception but were then told not to eat anything till we were outside. That went without saying because it was actually posted around the restaurant. The actual ice cream in my opinion was okay...nothing special or very interesting and the vegan flavor had an odd after taste. I was super excited for the brown butter cone,it sounded amazing but it tasted like any other waffle cone.
I made my order online, the person in charge had not even seen in her online order, I had to wait for the girl to prepare my order.
This was the best! I can never find good dairy-free ice cream and was so impressed!
This place has the best peanut butter ice cream I have ever had in my entire life! I dont understand why the peanut butter ice cream at this shop is only a seasonal flavor; the fact that this place does not carry this flavor year round should be treated as a crime. If youre a lover of peanut butter, try two scoops of peanut butter with some fudge on top and youll be in heaven. Although if youre not a fan of very sweet ice cream, you may not like it as much.
Came with the familh, person was nice but one cone is valued for the cost of a whole meal, Way to over priced for the quality and quantity. To charge that fee I would expect better from an establishment, but what I saw Indoors was a poorly maintained establishment it did show a sanitary and mask wearing environment which is a plus to me. Outdoor seating has no shading and seating is rough, and cones are to simplistic, I felt flavors were not unique for the price, I had similar in a supermarket, cute names though.
GET THE CHAI LATTE! As a fellow vegetarian/lactose-intolerant friend, this vegan ice cream was SO delicious!
Ice cream is ok but ppl are not very friendly. Been here 3 times.
Love their ice cream! Homemade taste 😋
Really great vegan ice cream. I had the chai tea coconut. Chocolate kitties in chocolate ice cream for my granddaughter. Yum!
Ice cream was delicious and serving size was very generous. I liked the topping selections. Warm pralines sauce was my favorite. However I wanted brownie crumbles as a topping option. Hopefully they will consider it soon. 😊 I didn’t appreciate the closed patio seating. We drove far to enjoy the delicious ice cream and we wish they could have offered a reduced seating or created social distance seating design for the patio. Finally the menu was hard to read, and I would have liked some visuals to get an idea of what the desserts looked like. All in all minor challenges. I hope my family plans another outing here soon. Great ice cream!
Delicious quality ice cream but very smallllll portions. one scoop is the equivalent of a kids scoop at any other place for 5$.
While their ice cream has the right amount of sweetness, it does not, however, have much flavor: I ordered a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of strawberries and cream--both of which did not have much flavor to them.
Fat Cat Creamery is my favorite ice cream joint in all of Houston! My favorite flavor is the Cats Meow Mexican Vanilla! They also have a ton of toppings that you can add on. I like to do crushed graham crackers. There is typically a lot of parking and they almost always have a line, but it goes very quick! Limited seating inside and out front on the patio.
This is the best ice cream shop with the best waffle cones in all the land. I am an expert, yes.
If you like ice cream, youll love this place.
Fantastic ice cream with an interesting variety of flavors
Chick with Blonde hair and glasses was rude. Took my business elsewhere
The ice cream was good but nothing to write home about. I had chocolate stout. I could taste the beer in the chocolate ice cream, it sounds better than it tastes.
It was wonderful I got the mexican vanilla. It was around 7:30 pm and it wasnt to busy. Nice servers too :) overall great
You must try the bourbon vanilla bean milk shake it’s awesome the flavors are a little different but always good 👌🏽 would recommend!
I love Fat Cat Creamery! This is hands down the best ice cream. My favorite is the chocolate stout and my husband’s is always their sherbets. Their waffle cones are also really good. My brothers and I always skip birthday cake for ice cream when our birthdays come, it’s that good. I also love that all of their ingredients are local. 10 out of 10, would eat again.
Place is amazing! Staff is so sweet same with their ice cream! They get everything right!
A friend and I got the chai tea coconut and honey lavender... neither of us could get past more than 4 bites of our ice cream as the flavors were good but wayyyyy too intense (and wayyyy too sweet)Don’t think I’ll be back
Got the recommended slush and ice cream scoop and they did not disappoint. 👌
