Line out the door had me curious! Worth the wait. Sweet potato hash was SO TASTY! Coffee was good. Definitely going to visit again. Space is small but there are tables inside and out to sit. You can also order and wait outside for your order when it’s crowded.

Super adorable spot with attentive and friendly staff. Seems very popular with the college kid crowd.Ordered a cortado and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll came served in this egregiously huge box (maybe ask if its going to be eaten right away and serve on a simple napkin--save the waste) and tasted impressively blank. I wanted butter and cinnamon and warmth to come thru, but it was just heavy and doughy and tiresomely sweet.Cortado tasted like charcoal with a lazy little swath of foam at the top.

Excellent food. I got the sliced turkey roast, it was delicious! The wait was short and the food came fast. Popular place for young people.

Great aesthetic with unique takes on breakfast classics and a few unique dishes overall. Lost a star in my mind today when I tried their lunch for the first time. Ordered a Cuban sandwich - the meat and cheese was great, but it was made without any pickles or mustard… I checked back on the menu and apparently that’s the way they do it - but when I asked for a side of pickles and mustard they didn’t have any. A Cuban sandwich is literally six ingredients; why they wouldn’t even bother stocking the two cheapest ones is beyond me.

Had Slawpy Jalopy one day and Shakshuka the next. Both were fabulous!! Wish I lived closer! I will definitely go back, frequently!!

Great cafe style breakfast. This restaurant is small and doesn’t take reservations so you might have to wait a while to sit. It’s very casual and they have a good variety on the menu.

First time here today. What a charming little cafe. Healthy tastey cafe fare. Rice bowls to lattes to omelettes. I had a croissant sandwich which was delicious and ready quickly. Pictures are of lattes and crepes.

Sweet potato hash was really good!! The place has a cool history - read it on the menu. Counter service, got food quick and it’s nice inside. Easy coffee refills too. It’s a quaint, quality spot for breakfast or brunch in Ithaca/College Town. I recommend it.

Very cute and inviting building from the outside. Inside was just as cute and the staff could obviously tell that we were new and they were very helpful. The food came out very quickly and my Tex Mex Melt sandwich was fresh and delicious. The flavor pairings complimented each other well. Would definitely recommend this place for its cozy-cafe atmosphere and its selection of quality food and baked goods.

Friendly manager with excellent customer service, Items on menu are Stellar with flexibility for dietary restrictions or just plain preference. Would recommend to anyone willing to listen to me, an utter highlight of Ithaca.

This is an excellent local Cafe with amazing food and very friendly staff. After ordering, food came out amazingly fast, which with two hungry waiting kids, was appreciated. Excellent soup and sandwiches, and great coffee and Chai. Will be returning here again.

Coal Yards food is always delicious and unique. You can tell they take care in what theyre preparing. The outdoor dining area they have set up is really pleasant, although I will be pleased when they open up the inside again. (Its so cute!) All their drinks and even plain coffee are delicious! Cute place, solid lattes. I recommend it for the coffee, but not for their egg salad sandwiches. I don’t know about the rest of the food there, but the egg salad sandwich was mostly bread, Mayo, and lettuce. Kinda skimped out with the egg salad tbh, and would have been more enjoyable if they’d been more generous with it haha. But 3 is a lil harsh, I’d give 3.5 if it allowed me too.

You order and pick-up your food outside at a small window. They have unique breakfast items and excellent coffee. I ordered the jailhouse wrap and it was good and filling. My friends enjoyed their meals as well, but it wasnt filling for them.

Seems like a cozy, friendly little cafe but take a look into the kitchen, the cooks never wash their hands, theres grime in every corner, looks like it hasnt had a deep clean in years. Me and my friends have come here a few times and gotten food poisoning everytime. The bacon just sits on top of a counter all day then its seared on the grill quickly before serving. Will be calling a health inspector.

The food was exceptional the staff was very friendly that is until two asian kids came in and all the friendliness they showed us two white people went out the door. They were given short responses where we were given these long and happy responses. Not sure if this was on purpose or not. The two kids didnt seem to notice but I did and it made me just a little sad they couldnt be shown the same enthusiasm.

The food here is fantastic! I don’t believe I’ve ordered something I didn’t like. It is often crowded here, but I find that the food is well worth the wait.Unfortunately I can’t speak to the quality of the coffee as I’m not a coffee person, but thy seem to take a lot of pride in their espressos and such.You will probably not eat here for less than $15. While they do have some “less expensive” options, the good stuff starts at $10 and up.

Good fancy lattes on a Saturday morning. Pretty long wait and a little claustrophobic to wait by the counter, but overall I liked the feel of the place and want to go back for breakfast sometime.They had compost and recycling bins out for customer use, which I like to see personally.

Had a chai, which was fine. Its a small space with limited seating, and if its busy and youre not eating, they may ask you to leave. I had been there about 20 minutes and wasnt finished with my drink when I had to ship out. This is, in my opinion, pretty lame.

Sooo much better than the local bagel Monopoly.... I know they dont set the bar too high but this place blows them out of the water in terms of quality, service, and ambiance.

The atmosphere is beautiful I’ve been working outside of this place for two days. They allowed me to use the bathroom without having to buy a thing which is rare and much appreciated if your flagger like I am Their food was fantastic and they brought me out drinks when I was way too hot there caring loving and honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever visited sure it’s small but it’s wonderful. I give this place five stars because you don’t find places like this anymore they’re rare and beautiful places and I hope it stays open for generations to come

Fantastic breakfast! Fresh, large portions, really tasty

Rich, roasty dark espresso. Luxurious foam with tight bubbles and long staying power. Warm, wood paneling and lots of natural light. The cashier, barista, and cook give welcoming smiles and look you in the eye. Surprise, refreshing half a pear came with my bagel. I can recommend the latte, the London fog, and the poppy seed bagel with butter.

Ive gone here for coffee at least once a week over the summer and the staff are always fo friendly and patient. The food is excellent, as are the specialty coffees, and I always looked forward to my trips here!

This is a nice coffee shop tucked away from the busy downtown area. The space is nice but a little warm. The person who took my order was very nice.

One of my go to breakfast and lunch spots in Ithaca! It gives me great joy to support a local restaurant that puts so much care in to their food. Service is always friendly with a smile and my meals are consistently tasty! Thanks for being a staple in my rotation of favorite places to eat!

I love this place. The food is delicious (and unique; the breakfast rice bowl is awesome!). The drinks are tasty, and the place itself has a cozy feel to it. The employees are all extremely helpful and enthusiastic about what Coalyard has to offer. Who can blame them? Its all delicious!

Fresh and interesting food and a nice staff. Be warned that its pricier than much of the area, but quality is high. Wish they stayed open later.

Food was served quickly, but great quality. Portions were just right. They were out of GF bread which was disappointing, but one of the staff gave us great tips on the waterfalls in the area. We really appreciated the attention!

Great lunch! Look for their daily special. Lines can be long at peak hours, and it can be tough to find a table, but it goes quickly and is worth the wait.

I have been coming to Coal Yard Cafe at least once a week for the past two years and it is the highlight of my morning. Not only is the food Amazing, but the service is outstanding as well. I no longer consider the employees servers, but instead, I consider them friends.

The internet connection in this place is not good. If you’re using an IPad it is difficult to connect. Other than that, it is a good place. Food is good and coffee aceptable. If you’re thinking to get some work done (needing internet) while having coffee or food, maybe this is not the most reliable place to do so.
