I take my car to this carx whenever I need something done. When I have questions they make sure I understand whats being said. Theyve even taken me under my car so I could see what they were talking about from their point of view, literally! Great staff, great service.

I had gone to my dealership to get an oil change and they had a 2 hour wait at 8:30 in the morning. So I left and stopped into Car-X to see if they had time.This was my first time ever going here. As soon as I walked in the vibe was good and welcoming. They got me in an out under an hour. The guys are super nice and down to earth. I asked for prices on pads/rotors and tires. They were so helpful with explaining all the options, warranties and prices. Cant say enough, super great guys here! I will be back.

I dont know what more to say about how awesome of customer service this Car-X has. Seth is an absolute life saver. I had a metal flap hanging off the bottom of my car that was scraping the ground as I was driving. I was on the interstate heading from Clive to Ankeny. I needed to be in Ankeny in 30 minutes. I got off on the Merle Hay exit and knew I just needed to get to a tire place. Car X was off the interstate and I luckily had gone to this one before and had a great experience. I pulled up in a panic and Seth literally got me in and out of there within 5 minutes. Christian was able to pull the metal plate off and fix the plastic right away. I did not have an appointment at all, Seth just remembered me from being a prior customer I can not thank both Seth and Christian enough for how caring they both were that day. You guys rock :)

We had a newer car with speakers put into it. Long story short the car was stuck at a car wash inside a stall right next door to these amazing people. We go in explaining the problem and right away they are eager to help two amazing guys walked over there diagnosed the problem simple easy fix and under the hood fuse was blown. They fixed the problem with a wave and a smile!!! thank you so much for everything you did and I will always bring my service to you!!

Had work performed a year ago and the new parts installed on my girlfriends SUV went out causing it to destroy 2 new tires. I had the vehicle checked by another location (Not this location) before having the new tires installed, they assured me everything was fine, turns out it wasnt. I voiced my complaints to Kyle( the manager) at this location where the work was originally performed, after a short conversation he decided to fix everything and even replaced the tires. This was above and beyond what I had expected. We couldnt be more appreciative and grateful for Kyle, hes a straight shooter. Honesty is rare and accountability is almost non existent, thats not the case with Kyle.

The starter went out on my Jeep. I had it towed to Car-X and they were able to get me in right away! Changed my oil and replaced the starter. Very courteous staff, clean waiting area and service counter. Will use them again for oil changes and maintenance.

PHENOMENAL PLACE! The manager, Anthony, is the best! Very reasonably priced, when they found a strut issue with my truck, they brought me out and SHOWED me the problem and told me as to why my tire is waring down in a specific spot. Was extremely helpful and gained my trust in minutes! Highly recommend this place. I have never felt so relaxed and as ease at a place getting my truck fixed knowing it wasnt going to cost me an arm and a leg and know it was going to get done correctly. Will always come back here.

ZERO STARS!!! This was my 4th or 5th time coming to this location. Prior to todays experience I would have recommended this place; however after todays service I will not be returning. They called and suggested replacing a couple filters (which I authorized changing) they also indicated that they would suggest checking the alignment. When I asked how much this was they said to check the alignment was free (which I authorized). When I go to pick up my car the bill was 2X the amount I was expecting. They charged me for the alignment and a balance and I did not authorize either of these. The office staff would not remove the charge or even give a discount. 0 stars from me and I will not be returning. I will find someone else to take care of my oil changes from now on.

I just left that place.. For a simple tire repair !!No service lights before i got there.!! But after i leave 40 min later.. Service brake light turns on and my navigation screen is not turning ON... I am super upset!!! I will never go to any of the locations again!!

Original 9-22-2020Find another shop if you want the work done you pay to have done. Took our van in for an oil change, tire rotation and alignment check. The rotation and alignment was free as we purchased 4 new tires last year and the 3 year alignment. The tires did not get rotated, as I had marked each one of them by the valve stem as my dad always recommended when going to a shop. The alignment was not done as the van still drifts slightly left. I asked for the normal sheet you get when an alignment is performed they said it was a waste of paper to print it out. The oil was likely not changed as the oil life monitor was not reset and the oil is still pretty dark vs the normal golden color after an oil change. They did do something to the engine as now it has a small tik sound when it idles which was not present when I went to the shop.Edit: 9-29-2020Got a call from Anthony the store manager last week and brought the van in to get some of the work accomplished. Have another appointment on Friday (10-2) to complete Very pleased with the professionalism and responsiveness of Anthony. Will edit again once the other work has been completed on Friday.Edit: 10-2-2020Took van to the dealer as scheduled by the Car-X manager to get the damages assessed that occurred during the initial oil change. The VW dealer said the lifter that had collapsed and was likely due to improper oil level or viscosity using during the oil change. The manager wants to take care of the issue but is not supported by the company. The techs should have noticed if the issue was not present upon arrival which is was not, but it was the service that caused the issue. The manager is trying his best to make thing right but his boss the area supervisor would not approve the $1,700 repair that Car-X caused as are not taking responsibility for the damages. The area supervisor claimed that it was like getting a brake job done and it breaking the radio then said good day and hung up the phone. Am in the process of filing with the BBB to attempt a resolution. In the mean time will need to find $1,700 to get my van back on the road to how it was 2 weeks ago.One of the biggest frustration with the situation is the manager was told by his boss to call and make thing right at whatever cost, they are not supporting him in doing what they asked because they are unwilling to take responsibility for the damages that occurred to a vehicle its is care. They definitely are the opposite of the slogan Dont worry call the Car-X Man they have lost the trust of keeping the word. If you are not going to honor your managers promise to get the damages fixed you should not have made him make the call do make it right at whatever the cost.

I went there 3 weeks ago to get my oil changed. I took my car at 10 AM and never got a phone call to come and pick it up until the next day!!! Somehow they put my paper work in a different spot saying that they called me and never did. Out of all that I got a FREE service but I was so disappointed and I also told them to check my tires and they said they did but I have a small leak in my front driver side tire so did they really check my tires and also my low tire gage light was on.

I took my car there because the license plate screw was stripped and I couldnt get it loose. They got me in right away, took care of the problem, installed my new license plates and didnt charge me a dime! What great service and friendly, helpful people. Will recommend to family and friends

I went in to take my car for an oil change. After a few hours I just wanted to checkup on my vehicle as an oil change doesn’t usually take too long and after a minor miscommunication on my vehicle found out that it was ready to go. So I go to pick up my car and found out that Nolan, the manager there, had taken care of my bill for me. He didn’t have to do that and it was just a kind gesture. It’s reasons like this that I recommend this particular car-x because they go above and beyond for their customers and have certainly taken care of me in the past. Shoutout to Nolan for being such an awesome dude and thank you to car-x for always taking care of me! You guys are outstanding!

My wife took my sons car in for an oil change. When she picked it up they said the struts and shocks are in really bad shape and are just hanging down, it was very dangerous. heres a quote for $1,100. Thanks for the unsolicited inspection. I looked at them, they are fine. The following week my wife went in to get her oil changed and they literally told her the same thing is happening on her car. We just bought the car from a dealership 3 months prior. Now two weeks later my daughter took her car into a different car x in for help changing a headlight. They tried to charge her $170 for a half hours worth of work so now you charge $340 an hour for shop time? Man this place is sad. They just try to take advantage of people and scam them out of their money. I would definitely go look for a second opinion or better yet just avoid it altogether.

Went there to have the car looked at and they tried saying she needed a new catylic converter and new flex flange cause they couldnt just replace the flex flange. Wanted to charge 890 dollars to do it. We said no and took it somewhere else where they fixed it with just the flex flange and was a 1/4 of the cost. Not too mention trying to talk to them on the phone is impossible, spent 18 minutes on the phone on hold while he checked a price . Then had to call back because I got tired of waiting. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

I went to Car-X this morning in hopes for a tire rotation. Amber was great and was able to get me squeezed in to an already busy day. I am usually not one to write an online review, but his time I’m making an exception. I have nothing but good things to say about how well Amber took care of me at the Johnston Car-X Tire & Auto. And she didn’t even fix my car! My dependable Toyota Camry, which I’ve been driving for years, suddenly stopped running. I had it towed to the Johnston Car-X. It turned out that the timing belt broke. Amber was not satisfied with simply replacing it and sending me on my way. She insisted on taking a deeper look and assigned her top technician to run a thorough diagnosis. It turned out that the timing belt breaking caused more damage to the engine. I had two choices: I could pay over $2,700 for an engine head replacement or Amber would do her best to find a used engine to replace the existing one, which would easily be over $3,000. She patiently answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. With no pressure from Amber, I reluctantly decided it was time to find a new car and send my Toyota to the junkyard. When I asked Amber how much I owed her for all her trouble and diagnostic work, she said, “Nothing.” I am deeply appreciative, and I will tell anybody who lives in or near the Johnston area that they can trust the Johnston Car-X to take good care of them. Took my car In for a wheel alignment and it wasn’t fixed, had to retake it back the next day due to fact I had to pick the car up right at closing time and guess what? Still wasn’t fixed, had to take it to another shop.

I highly recommend Car-X in Johnston. I have visited 3 times in the past month for tires on my two trailers; and brakes on my truck. During all three visits, Amber (Manager) kept me well informed and had me on my way the same day. This included a significant brake job (rotors, pads, etc) on my difficult-to-work-on truck. I highly recommend Car-X in Johnston. Brought my Ford F-350 in to just have it checked out prior to pulling my boat down to Tennessee. I just wanted to make sure that nothing was needed prior to making the 700 mile trip. I had an appointment for 10am but was in and out before 9:45am. The staff are supper friendly and knowledgeable. Amber is great and knows her stuff.

I arrived for an appointment today and was greeted by Amber and had my car pulled right in. I was having some regular maintenance done and I used the nice waiting area they provide. The repair work done quickly and Amber went over everything with me. Very good service - I will use this Car-x location again in the future.

It was just a quick tired rotation and oil change. The staff was efficient and friendly. The gentleman running the front desk was professional and kind. Its nice having a such a great place for servicing my vehicle so close to work who I can now count on for future services for my car.

I want to thank Nate and Mitch for the wonderful experience. I had been told that I needed new struts, but it turns out, I just needed a bolt tightened. I would highly recommend these two guys, they did a wonderful job!

Car-X in Johnston is the ONLY place Ill ever take my car now. On my last visit, Amber (at the front counter) was extremely helpful. She explained things to me and kept me up on what was recommended by calling me on the phone. Pete (in the back) knows what he is doing. His experience and knowledge is admirable. I had a wonderful experience at the Johnston Car-X today. The engine splash guard on the undercarriage of my Volvo loosened and became detached on one side. Except for a piece of wire to lift it enough to get to a repair shop; it was essentially not drivable. I was having no luck getting it in somewhere in the near term when I called Amber at Car-X. She told me to bring it on in and they would get right at it. She promptly put V on it in and he repaired it while I was there. It was done in minutes and now I have my convertible for the holiday weekend. Thank you very much Amber and V...will be seeing you again!

I had just driven into town for a family visit when the engine light came on. Drove into the Johnston Car-X at about 4pm and they looked busy. I talked to Amber and she spoke to a mechanic named Mitch - within 10 minutes Mitch was reading the code on my car and analyzing the problem. It turned out to be something that was not immediately serious and could wait until I returned to my home in Texas. They did not charge me anything for their trouble.These people were quick, careful and courteous. It is obvious that customer care is a high priority here. We don’t have Car-X in the Dallas area - and that is our loss. I would not hesitate taking any auto need I had to Car-X.

Took my truck in this week concerned about the 4 wheel drive. They looked it over called and said nothing wrong. No charge!

They are always professional and courteous. They make sure that if they find other problems with my car, that they let me know what the issue is, what needs to be done about it, and what could happen later on if I dont fix it. And they do all that before they even begin to fix the issue. Will continue to take my vehicle there!

Wow. Great service here! I walked in your service center after briskly walking out of a VW dealership down the road, only to find out you not only carry some of the specialized European vehicle oils/lubes, but also some mechanical expertise in that area as well. Amber and your team did a great job.

I took my Jeep Wrangler in because the check engine light was on and Amber and Mitch took great care of me. As a woman, not knowing that much about cars, they could have easily told me there was something wrong and charged me hundreds of dollars, however, what they told me was that there must have been a misfire by the battery (possibly because of the heat) and there was really nothing wrong that they could see right now and they didnt charge me a dime! Lousy service, waited over 90 minutes to switch tires on my truck? Gave an excuse that my tires in the bed of my truck, didnt fit without trying to put them on? I took my vehicle in for a second opinion. The first place that I went wanted to charge me $1600 for some steering issues. After looking it over for me again they told me that they would not recommend fixing anything because everything appeared to be just fine. They saved me $1600 in repairs that were not even necessary. Plus they topped off my windshield wiper fluid! Great guys at this Car-X. They have my business from now on!

I had a great experience with these guys. First time I went there I had a leaking tire and I will admit, I was grumpy and in a hurry. However, they were patient and got me out quick. So, I brought my wifes van in because it was having break trouble. They were honest about what needed to be done and fair about pricing. The dealership would have charged a lot more and taken longer.

Best service!! Amber was great and very helpful. My car was damaged by Walmart during an oil change. Amber gave me an estimate for the repairs that I submitted to Walmart. I brought my car in on Friday evening got it back Saturday by noon ! I will only bring my car to car x for oil changes from now on thank you so much for your help Amber !

Noticed I had a coolant leak. Called first thing Saturday morning, was told to swing by, they checked it out. Found the leak, quoted me a price and scheduled me in for the following Tuesday all within less than a half hour. Brought it back today to get the radiator replaced. Two hours later with “your car is done and ready for pick up”. Haven’t had very good luck with over service tech providers in the past. This facility was fast, friendly and very professional. Highly recommend. Will be bringing all my business to them as well as spreading the word.

We started going here a few months ago. The waiting lobby is very comfortable. They dont try to upsell you on every repair, which is much appreciated.

I usually go to location in Ames, I needed tail light changed plus oil change, did it closer to work. After I left driving 65 on interstate I kept hearing a kind of knocking, thunking noise. I saw my hood was bouncing up & down. Luckily the latch held till I got off interstate & could close it tightly. TPM sensor wasnt cleared even though inspection says tire pressure checked. They are usually more thorough. 🤔

I have had several cars serviced at this CarX. Very quick turnaround time. A few weeks ago we had a car that had brake issues on a Saturday afternoon. I assumed it was too late in the week but explained that the vehicle belonged to one of my kids who needed to get back to school. They got me in that day and had it repaired in under three hours. My radiator hose broke and my engine was smoking... I called CarX and they sent a tow truck, delivered my vehicle and I to the shop, had the part to replace already delivered there while I was being towed, and fixed my vehicle in less then half hour. Exceptional customer service and extremely timely. They charge very very high hourly rate or labor (2x as much as most body shops), but in my opinion they did such a good job I was fine with the price. They got things done there. John, the manager, is fantastic along with all the workers who worked on my car with the service and hard work. Might not be the cheapest shop in town but gets job done the fastest! I would definitely recommend to anyone, it’s worth the extra cost.

This location went above and beyond service! They let me know an issue with my car that I didnt know and even reached out to a dealership to see if my car was still under warranty for the fix. EXCELLENT and would highly recommend! Will go back!

Ive had mixed experiences. Theyre always friendly and courteous, and usually very quick, but I had a negative experience recently...About a year ago, I had all 4 breaks and 2 disks replaced. They also repaired a broken E-brake caliper. Along with the $1200 in costs, I purchased the warranty on the parts. The E-brake caliper initially held well, but quickly began to lose its grip. Eventually it wouldnt hold on my driveway. I asked to have it fixed under the warranty, but they insisted it was due to a stretched cable and not the work for which I paid a warranty. This seemed fishy to me, because the problem started and quickly progressed AFTER they fixed it... But Im not an expert so I let it go after some back and forth. I asked if they could quote a fix for it and they said it would be something like 2 hours of labor and over $200 to open it up and assess it.I (a mechanical novice) watched a 10min YouTube video and did the job myself in about 30 minutes.Now, Im wondering if the labor for my $1200 brakes and rotors was inflated too. I might continue with regular oil changes, but Ill probably consider somewhere else for other things.

I’ve had a few repairs and general maintenance items done at the CarX in Johnston. Over the last year I have taken my 2002 Jeep Wrangler a several different times for the following items; oil change, coolant flush, serpentine belt and pulley, valve cover gasket, engine degreased, starter, and new battery terminals. The manager John and all the staff are always friendly, helpful, and honest. I also, used them when I had a vintage Mercedes-Benz. Always great service and top notch customer service. Overall fair on prices although, some may seem a little higher than other shops they stand by their service with their guaranty that includes labor. It’s a relief to feel feel like I’ve found a reliable trustworthy mechanic service after transplanting here just over four years ago. Recently when I went to pick up my Jeep it wouldn’t start due to a small human error of pulling the key out when it was in the accessories setting this draining the battery. The manager John was very apologetic and admitted he was at fault. I wasn’t worried as mistakes can happen and I liked that John admitted he made an error. After the Jeep wouldn’t start he thought he could have killed the battery and offered to take care of it while helping for about 30 minutes after close and after he was supposed to go home for the day. Well, the next day the Jeep started right up and the battery was fine when tested. Thankfully John made the error as it helped find a problem with one of the battery terminals where the previous owner had connected two cables together and the cable had come loose. The cable issue wasn’t visible and by removing the battery to test it was how it was discovered. I’m thankful that this was discovered and repaired quickly as as hidden electrical issues can cause more problems down the road and could have left me stranded somewhere. Another thing that I like is they will inspect items as they are doing service and won’t up-sell you parts and repairs that you don’t need. Good honest management and staff. Quality and friendly service! The waiting area was very comfortable and has tables there too for people working remote via laptop etc. Will be going there again as they have the knowledge and tools to work on my Audi/VW.

I started using carx in altoona iowa about two years ago and loved the service i received at that location then they changed the store manager three times on me and on the third time they put amber in charge of the shop. after sitting and talking with her about cars and things going on with my truck i could tell she knew what she was talking about when it come to mechanical work on cars. after a month or two of dealing with her every time i took my truck into that shop i could tell she was very trust worthy and would shoot me straight no matter what was wrong with my truck. then they transferred her to johnston, so i took my work out to johnston its very hard these days to find honset trust worthy mechanic that knows every thing amber knows about cars, she continues to take care of me like she did in altoona and tell me the straight honest truth about what going on with my vehicle.. i just hope that carx realizes what they have in amber the rest of their shop managers need to follow her lead in how to deal with customers, if they would do that carx would out beat any shop out there... reall hope that they dont transfer her again dont want to have to chase her all over the state lol
