Brought my TH400 from my ramp truck to Mike, knowing I was using it for towing he took extra care to ensure it had firm shifts and would hold up well. Works great and at an awesome price.

I have a 98 Toyota T100 SR5 4x4 truck in excellent condition. The truck has a supercharger and a few other subtle performance upgrades. The transmission started leaking badly and the torque converter was making some telling sounds of bad news - I looked for a shop with a good reputation. This was in 2013.Since the only true tranny builders at that time were only interested in fleecing the high performance diesel crowd, with their extreme torque mods - no one wanted to look at mine.I needed it fixed ASAP because it was my daily driver. A well respected friend of mine that owns an Auto Electrical Service recommended SoMD trans, so I went to see Mike.Mikes team fit me in line after 2 weeks and rebuilt the transmission and replaced the torque converter. I was pleased in the way I was treated at that time and would recommend the shop even today.HOWEVER, now - being 9 months OUTSIDE of the warranty, the transmission has busted its gut and is leaking fluid. There are also with that, confusing symptoms that could potentially mean torque converter issues as well, so the transmission must be removed for a positive diagnosis.I live in Southern Calvert County so I cannot conveniently take it back up to LaPlata (again) at this time. Even though the truck has some performance mods, it is NOT run hard. I use it to do normal driving, never off-road, and try to keep it in top shape with longevity in mind. I dont think any transmission should fail in less than 10 years unless strained, neglected, or abused.Lastly, since those performance mods were explained - and my specific instruction to Mike at the time of the complete rebuild was to do whatever was necessary to assure its strength and compatibility with the engine to make sure it will last - This latest result is disappointing to say the least.So this time, I am taking it elsewhere. $3k is a lot of money for only delivering 3 years of service, IMHO.

Just got back from Southern Maryland Transmission. Very happy with the honesty of Mike the owner. Had our transmission looked at and he told me all of my options, our car is old and he said honestly that it probably wouldnt pay to have the transmission fixed. Would recommend SMdT to anyone.

Very friendly and professional staff, fast and very knowledgeable. Called at 0830 and got an appt. for 2 the same day...was home by 5 with my car fixed (Transmission cooler line corroded and ruptured). I asked all of the back-yard mechanic should I questions, they recommended and did only the services I needed/requested, they were NOT out to make a buck. I would highly recommend them to friends and family and I will/would bring any one of my vehicles back to this shop for services or work.

Took my classic 1989 Lincoln Mark VII LSC to Mike (owner), referred by Scott at Mr. Tire, because the transmission was slipping. Mike diagnosed and repaired the issue in a short time and at a very fair price.Highly recommend!

Took car in for leaking trans fluid. Got bill stating repairs were made. Just to bring it home to have it leak again next day. So took it back up there and was billed for something else and told to not bring it back. Owner is a rip off artist and wouldnt trust his work for anyone.
