I would recommend these guys to anyone interested in Fly Fishing! We had the pleasure of being guided down the Bow River by Luke and Mike, two expert guiders. These guides went above and beyond to make sure we had the experience of a lifetime. From taking care of everything from flies to food, they also shared their abundance of knowledge which truly helped us perform better on the water. Each one of us left a better fisherman and more excited to get back out on the water.

I popped in here by chance and I have to say, this is a fantastic store. Great selection of all things, fly fishing!They even offer a free, fly fishing course a couple of times a month. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will be happy to look after you.Tight lines!!!

Best fly shop in my opinion, this is the only shop I go to and am never disappointed. I come in here not only to shop but to talk with the guys, they are all very friendly and helpful! Never tried their guides or trips yet but might try it out sometime! I love their huge selection of patagonia and other quality equipment. Tight lines!

Brought my dad to OFF as he was having issues with the fly line on his rod that was making an annoying sound when casting, and he wasnt happy with the response he got from the shop that sold it to him.Instead of simply selling us a new fly line and sending us on our way, Josh the owner explained in detail the technical reasons for the unpleasant noise and took my dad out front of the shop and gave him a free casting lesson.Im a born and raised Calgarian and life-time fly fishermen and ive been to every shop in Calgary. This type of service is what the others are lacking and what differentiates OFF from the competition. OFF has my business and they just gained a new loyal client.Thanks again Josh!

Just want to give a shout out to the management and staff at Out Fly Shop. During the recent Covid-19 pandemic they went above and beyond by creating a program to create some much needed joy to kids around the area by sending an assortment of flies as a gift to brighten their days during lock down. These gifts were sent free of charge. My two grand kids were fortunate enough to receive flies from the Flies4kids program and were thrilled to receive their packages, definitely brightened their day. Well done folks.

Best day Ive had on the BowBooked a full day on the Bow with O.F.F. had a great day fishing and learned a lot. My girlfriend and I are new to fly fishing and Josh was very helpful and patient. Ended up getting some nice Rainbow trout, including the first ever fish for my girlfriend on a fly rod. We enjoyed our day and would recommend using O.F.F. to anyone, whether just starting out or experienced anglers I think they have much to offer. Im certainly planning on booking further trips. The shop is great as well, very helpful staff and all the local knowledge you need. Good advice and they wont oversell you on equipment either, I expected to spend a great deal more getting into fly fishing but they set me up with a nice rod/reel at a very reasonable price which has served me very well.

Super nice guy working the counter. Im fairly new to fly fishing and he took the time to have a look at what gear I already had and hand picked the stuff I needed for fishing the mountain streams of the eastern slopes. Gave me some great tips too. Will definitely go back when I decide to invest more in gear.

This is cool little store that will satisfy all the requirements for the fishing enthusiast. I visited here to purchase face shields only as per their listing on their website, however, I was saddened to see only a few in stock and none of which I had seen on the site. As the kind and helpful attendant informed me, they only restock after all current stock sells out. This was clearly understandable to me given the fact that these are American products which required shipping fees and cross border excise taxes so placing single orders would not make business sense at all. I purchased one face shield and shortly after returning home, I found the same ones on amazon.ca priced at 5 units for the same price I paid for 1 in this store with free delivery.4 stars due to the kind and knowledgeable staff and huge assortment of fishing supplies but limited stock and high price on the face shields.

I have always been treated with respect and dignity by the staff atOut Fly Fishing. As a Beginner fly fisherman I have been told tips and tricks to improve my cast and for certain things to look for out on the water. Ty in particular made me feel welcome and showed me how to tie a better knot then the basic knot. Ty even went as far as to give me flys from his own personal tackle box. I highly recommend OFF! I will be back

Their guides work hard day in day out to give you the best experience. Both Courtney and Greg are super helpful when choosing from their large selections of brands that they will take the time to talk to you about! Overall great first time at OFF. Staff was friendly and asked if I needed help, also mentioned the flies are tied locally by two tiers which is a definite plus. Good selection of clothing and apparel. The front display case is an awesome touch! Watching trout swim around a tank while youre gearing up to chase trout is everything you didnt know you needed in your life, until you see it

Go here if you want to be taken advantage of and scammed!! Heres the story...My Sons are new to the sport. After losing the loop on line and everything attached, I brought the rod in to OFF to get help. Walked in and was taken care of right away. Not knowing what was needed to fix the issue, I felt like I had been treated great. The employee was helpful to find me the $100 replacement line he said I needed and was going to put it on the reel himself. Since it was going to take a bit of time this kind employee asked if I minded that he quickly helped two other customers. While he was helping them, a family member (avid fly fisher) called me to ask how fishing went and I told him what happened and how it was getting resolved. He told me run with my rod out of that store. After learning its a quick, easy fix that cost me $2.50 for a welded loop at a competitor in the NW I realized how badly we were taken advantage of. Too bad he only saw the value in that one visit. Ive got two teenage boys who have just found a love for flyfishing. We would have been customers for life. I know I will never EVER give any of our business to OFF!Thank you for pushing us to your competition!!

Best Fly Shop In Town!!!Friendly Staff and I always feel welcome.I felt obligated to comment when I saw the negative review about the return of the rod above. The people who work at O.F.F. are fair and decent people. Not familiarizing ones self with a return policy is not a reason to blame a retailer for a bad experience. These business probably get many yahoos like this guy who buy (RENT) equipment all the time, and as the next guy (who may buy that rod you returned), I dont want it if you opened it already... hence the restocking fee... Its no longer new ...Maybe this guy should shop at the big box stores where they take this stuff back and sell it again without another thought. Small shops who take fishing seriously would never resell a returned rod as new. I shop at small, local shops because I expect a high level of service, attention to detail and products that have not been previously purchased (rented).It sounds like his beef is really with Canada Post.

Naoto was a great guide and was able to get and experienced and beginner fisherman to hook and bring in lots of fish on a hopper! It was an enjoyable day. Naoto is very knowledgeable of the river and fish. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a great day!

Whenever I travel to Calgary this is the first and only shop that I visit. I am always treated with a smile when I walk in and the staff are always eager and happy to help me with what ever I need. I would gladly recommend this shop to everyone and anyone. Great atmosphere, great people and great products equals a GREAT shop.

Super friendly atmosphere. I also come here for tips on what kind of flies might be effective for a particular period of time, and once again, never leave disappointed!PS: I read some of the older negative reviews here before going in, and I seriously cant understand how someone could rate it that low....but then again, people go on amazon and give 1 star ratings to things they mis-order out of their own mistake :| .Id say dont mind that and give it a go if youre in the area or looking for some friendly advice!

Needed new wading boots for my daughter on a Friday afternoon to head away fishing together for the weekend. Went to Out Fly Fishing and explained to the store owner that my daughter couldnt get in there to try them on for size before the store closed because she was at work. I said that I would buy 2 pairs from them (a size 7 and a size 8), and would bring back the unused pair that didnt fit on the Monday. They agreed. After I paid for both pairs, and was shopping for some other gear elsewhere, I found out that the boots I bought were the older, discontinued models (now replaced by a new model) that everyone else (I mean EVERYONE) was selling at a discount of 30% or better. When I went back on the Monday to return the unused pair of boots that didnt fit, not only did they refuse to price match on the discontinued boots, but they actually tried to charge me a restocking fee on the 2nd pair - even though they had already agreed to take them back!! (Remember, I bought 2 pairs!!) What was even worse was that after a full month, the credit never appeared on my credit card statement. My wife had to drive back to the store to rerun the credit card through again, and after another month the credit STILL never appeared! After a 3rd time and full 2-1/2 months AFTER the return, the credit finally appeared. I sent an email expressing my dissatisfaction to the store owner, who never even bothered to reply. Very questionable ethics here - AVOID THIS SHOP.

Theres something about this shop that just makes it so easy to shop at or just stop in for a chat. They have great fly selection as well as great products. The staff is very friendly and super knowledgable. Overall great place

Just wrapped up a day on the Bow with Naoto and had a great trip! River was high and fishing a bit tough, but Naoto found a way to put me on some fish! He clearly has been doing this for a long time and had excellent knowledge of the river and where to find fish - and we found them! Greg was great to deal with for booking my trip and they have a a really nice fly shop. I would highly recommend them for your next outing!

Great fly shop with great people! OFF has an extensive fly selection, high quality gear, all of your tying needs and second to none info when you deal with senior staff members. (Not that the junior staff members arent informative, theyre just new.). I like to get info from Josh or Courtney, but thats just me.Pricing is very in line with other fly shops which is a little higher than big box stores where you have sift through the inferior to find the quality.They also bring in great talent for workshops. I attend Tim Arsenaults spey workshop and my cast was at the next level that day!I shop all over North America while traveling for work and OFF is on my personal favorites list.

Without a doubt the best fly shop in Calgary. After shopping all over for a spey rod, Cabelas had one rod, another Fly Shop answered the phone yah and countless others left me feeling bewildered, uneducated or overwhelmed. and when youre spending this much money on a new setup you want it to be perfect. The person that helped me on Friday afternoon September 21 2018 was a true professional. Sadly since Ive been planning on buying a spey rod for about 5 years I was too excited to ask their name. I was pointed in the right direction at every turn and walked away feeling like I had purchased the rod that I was looking for, and that after my visit to out fly fishing, I was more likely to catch the salmon and steelhead I would be chasing. As a 25 + year single-handed Atlantic salmon fishermen from Newfoundland I knew nothing about spey rods other than what I had read on the internet. But now I feel like Im heading in the right direction. Thanks to out fly fishing, a true fly shop

Super friendly staff

A couple years back I decided to take my then 13 year nephew fishing for his birthday. I asked Gord to set me up with a guide who would be good with a kid who had not fly fished before. We were booking on short notice, but Gord assured me he had the right guy. Well, he could not have been more wrong. The guide was impatient, critical, and even downright unkind to my nephew at times. He expected this neophyte to make 40 foot casts to the bank in a good wind. When the boy actually hooked into a fish, the guy quickly grabbed the rod out of his hand and promptly lost the fish. I was flabbergasted.I had to actually take him aside and read him the riot act. On top of all this, we got skunked, and I am a very experienced fly fisherman. So when I called Gord to explain what happened and request my money back (the guide was that bad) all he did instead was have the guide call me. The last thing I wanted was to speak to that guy again. The apology was meaningless. It was such a bad experience all around that it has stayed with me for several years, and it finally occurred to me I could feel some sense of justice by writing this report. Dont trust Gord.
