A small well stocked Japanese supermarket. They have a bit of everything: Fresh produce, fresh fish, to go snacks and entrees, candy, ice cream, detergent, and everything in between. The market is hence crammed to the gills, a bit of old timey charm. The checkout, despite the long line goes by really fast. Try to resist the temptations of the snacks on both sides! They have staff of different nationalities, hence if you have questions you can have someone answer them.
We always get excited when we go to this market. Lots of japanese product. And when its Japanese, you know that its good quality products. Even their cup noodles are better. I can sew scrambled eggs, shrimps and some vegetables in it. They have ready packed sushi and sashimi plates, onigiri, instant soup bowls, chocolates, candies and also rwady cooked meals. Awesome marketplace.
We love this market.Believe or not their packaged sandwiches are delicious. So are the shrimp dumplings, the beef bowls, the sushi and everything else. Its fabulous.
It has a number of nice stores, can spend time here, except limited parking spaces and entering or exiting traffic.
Great store, love being able to pick up sushi and spam musubis for lunch.
This is fascinating place to shop andexplore. Covers all the basics and then some.
Great selection of Japanese premade food, made fresh everyday. They also have various groceries and cooking staples available.
Nice clean cute little Japanese grocery store. This place only has essentials, along with decent prepackaged sushi, sashimi, sandwiches, and rice rolls. The isles are very tight but very tidy. The workers are helpful, eager to help. The prices are very reasonable for a little market. The produce section was fresh, clean, and affordable. Nice shopping experience.
Ive been to this location two years ago and hasnt changed much. You can pretty much grab anything from products of Japan or anywhere else in East Asia.
Love Nijiya Market! I always spend hours here. Always have to have lunch such as a Bento box, Mabo Tofu, Chicken Curry, or one of the various Sushi assortments. I like to buy various snacks such as Seaweed potato chips, or spicy rice crackers. Great selection of fresh vegetables, fresh fish and seafood, and wonderful chocolates and desserts. Love the colorful and playful packaging - always makes for a nice gift. Great prices on Sake. And the clincher is customer service is always friendly!
Good local grocery store! Bluefin and wagyu on sale here
Awesome little japanese market, sells raw fish for sushi, has a million different sauces(they carry plum sauce!), They sell pre made boxed lunches/dinners, and a lot of different japanese candies/snacks.
Its always the sushi role and the bento boxes! Well since my grandmom is Asian, we get most of our staples here while my Dad just went in for his fav egg sandwiches lol. Always a great store to visit!
It is great grocery store with Japanese staples. I was very happy to find a section of organic produce and find organic nori. I also enjoy the prepared food to go here. Always delicious. And it appears to be more reasonably priced than its counterpart, Mitsuwa, down the street (well, maybe about 3-4 miles away) There are even live plants for sale outside.
I am a very regular and enthusiastic shopper of Nijiya market. I probably get here about twice a week. They have full-time sushi people who make very tasty sushi. They dont have the selection of a better sushi bar, but the quality of what they do have is very tasty and very good. I buy all my Japanese and Chinese ingredients here, including tofu, which is their own organic brand. I also get Tobanjan, wasabi, chili oil, sesame oil. They have excellent quality organic garlic. their wild salmon fillets are delicious, much better than what I get at Whole Foods Market. The staff is very friendly and very nice, and although the store is relatively small, its very well stocked. Highly recommended!
Small Japanese Grocery store. There wasn’t much variety in their selections since it’s a much smaller-sized grocery compared to others. What I liked about this store though is that they allow you to buy a box of ramen noodles rather than buying them individually.Another favorite of ours is their TAKOYAKI which is also awesomely delicious.A bit difficult to park though even if there was a lower ground parking area.
Pros: Best tasting, freshly made, simple ingredients (water, soymilk) Nijiya branded organic soymilk. Cons: Too many unsustainable inorganic non-local non-seasonal non-fairtrade imported highly-processed industrialized plant and animal products wrapped in plastics and single-use packaging. Nijiya isn’t the only one or the biggest culprit but our food system is unsustainable and unjust. If you love Niniya, demand change. If you hate Nijiya, find a sustainable alternative.
Good Japanese food & grocery store
Love stopping my here for a few things when eating somewhere on Sawtelle. So convenient
They always have good finds.
My first visit: cashier tried to double charge me for one item ($15 on a $53 ticket) and didn’t apologize when confronted. She said “we all make mistakes”.Be careful there and double-check your receipt. They all make mistakes and not in your favor.
My go to Japanese market. Amazing.
Was thankful to fund this place again, tucked into the corner of a mini plaza area. Parking tight above ground, more spaces below. Its easy to buy $10 worth of items to qualify for free parking. Theres a little manned booth at entrance to parking. Sometimes not on duty. Market is well stocked with all sorts and quantities of Asian foods, minimum kitchen utensils, hard to get Asian vegetable seeds, quite a number of live plants including perilla or beefsteak leaf plant. Will be back.
Great Japanese store with a variety of products.
Abundant variety of Japanese products. Staff helpful. Very often, you need help to understand what you are buying. Always ask just in case. Parking: absolute nightmare.
Never fails. If youre looking for Japanese stuff, its a go to. Not as big as a Marukai, but I feel its really for the people who live close by.
I buy snacks here often!! Staff is always friendly and the selection is greatTheir frequent rotating sales have encouraged me to try snacks that I hadnt before, like Karamucho spicy curry snack (its like cheetos but spicy curry flavor instead of cheese) which is now one of my favorite snacks!! I hope that one comes in a family size bag some dayAlso they carry brown sugar boba ice cream, but the cashier told me it does sell out often so 👀
Nice small store that carries a large selection of Japanese products and foods. Parking may be a bit challenging and be prepared to wait in line before entering. We were so glad to see that this store followed social distancing guidelines by limiting the number of customers entering the store. Everyone also wore their masks! Thank you!
Got some noodles and a sushi roll. Ive been going to this store for goodies every time Im in West La
It is my favorite place to shop. The quality of the food is excellent. The customers and the staff are friendly and help each other. It is one of the nicest things in my community.
Nice spot to get a quick bite such as bento boxes or sushi for real cheap. Plus, its a market so you can get Japanese food/products you wont find at a typical market.
More clean at the all area
The place to go for Japanese food.
Wasabi Doritos! Do I need say more? Im trying to eat more seaweed, because thyroid problems run in my family, and this place has a million different snacks that include seaweed. The Wasabi Doritos do not include seaweed, but they were Wasabi Doritos so how was I supposed to resist?? They also have an impressive selection of rice, including some heirloom and organic varieties, and plenty of brown and white options. If you have a craving for any Japanese staples or Japanese treats, this is the place to get them!
Nijiya market is a nice mix between a 7-11 and a Ralphs. Be warned that many of the products are imported with little to no translation on the packaging more often than not. Double check what you purchase because like many things in a grocery store, it might not be for you.If you are walking in with a modicum of knowledge around Japanese food products, then youve found an ideal snack shop. They come with the usual candies and sodas closer to the front area with bakery goods like bread, rolls, and buns. Deeper in you have some fruit juices, chips, and even a meat section. Then theres the utensil aisles for kitchen appliances, aforementioned utensils, and so on. And at the deepest lart are the vegetables which inckude cabbage, daikon, shitake mushroom and more.It really does have nice variety but remember that theyre still foreign products. Dont be shy and ask an employee there about the product you have a question on and Im sure theyll help. Theyre very nice there.Pictures includes a single product there with a cute mascot on front. It was a kind of gummy candy where you get a mold to make shapes out of them. Niche product but Japan is kind of the king of niche.
Small but well stocked, a little pricy compared to alternatives but very convenient and staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable.
Very unique place but getting food with friends is a pain in the arse instead everyone decide but no he doesnt want spend
I found almost all Japanese products and foods I need
I love this little supermarket. Always good service and a large selection that you wont find in most Western Supermarkets.
So good, the real Jp supermarket
Its got all you neeeeeeed.
The ready-to-eat deli items are awesome! Great selection on all Japanese beers, instant noodles, shrimp crackers and other dry snacks, everything you need for shabu-shabu (hot pot), also love the fresh ginko nuts, super thick slices Japanese bread, nato beans selection, Japanese pickled vegetables like onions and garlic great on salads, every trip to this market is a very happy shopping experience!
Classic Japanese grocery store with a selection of to-go food. Its one of my favorites for Hollywood Bowl picnics. There are a few tables outside; this place is a popular lunch stop for people who work in the area. The produce is fresh, and there are many items specific to Japanese cooking that are difficult to find in a regular market. Nijiya is small. Narrow aisles allow a lot of merchandise per square foot. It is not inexpensive, but I have yet to find a Japanese grocery store outside of Gardena that is.
Today was my first time at this market and I love it! Their variety was great and I found exactly what I went for.
Good Japanese specialty food selection.
Well controlled in terms of restrictions to allow a certain number of people in at a time (covid reasons)
Me & my wife used to go here a lot after work and working out at LA fitness (2014-2016). Not sure if they still do it, but they cooked takoyaki and okonomiyaki that were really good. Of course, that is after weve gone inside and bought several other goodies (cup noodles, wheat cakes in different flavors, miso). If they dont have the freshly cooked ones, we bought the packed ones inside and used their microwave. We recently started going back here, but due to the pandemic, no freshly cooked goodies. We still get the ready to eat boxes though. Oh, the UCC canned coffees are good (by the chocolate mousse and milk pudding, which are also good).
Its small and its got lots of great Japanese food and bento, too! Nijiya is famous for their bento!
Awesome place to get all your Japanese food. Fresh fish, quality meats, and good bento boxes. You can get all the ingredients for your favorite Japanese dish right here.If you dont want to pay for parking, come early and leave early. The parking guy isnt there in the morning, at least on Fridays.
Clean and organized market with plenty of Asian products
I buy beer here all the time, when they have a sale, it’s a really good deal!Of course, I have to buy 10 other things every time I go...such a unique place. The tea sets are a surprisingly reasonable price.
Japanese supermarket. High quality products, good selection of products, and clean environment. Pricier than Tokyo central, but the cakes they sell are great. Difficult to find parking at certain time of the day. Around 6pm during weekday was somewhat easier.
Personally I think marukai has better bentos options than this location but it does have better dessert selection than the marukai closeby when you look at cakes and pudding.Parking for market was free underground. May need to show receipt when you leave tho.
I love this market, I find some good fresh seafood and dried seaweed. Im not a big fan of sweets but they have a big selection as well. The grocery is very fresh and you could pick up some fresh sushi or to go meow if youre not interested in shopping they have a tiny corner like a food card where you could sit also fear wanting to shop around. traditional Asian markets are normally cheaper with more variety but this is convenient right bite Santa Monica excellence hotel
Fresh fish and take out sushi!
Can find uniqoe and rare goods.. Very helpful staff.. Love and would recommend
Its always fun to walk through the aisles of Nijiya Market its always clean and now the cashiers extra friendly
While the service here is either a hit or a miss, their variety is quite good. I’ve never not found what I want here. They have all different kinds of flour, sugar, noodles, sauces, and spices. Will definitely be going back soon!
Excellent Japanese market with wide variety of Japanese grocery essentials and beloved snacks.
What a wonderful market! So many people in the neighborhood shop here. Its close, convenient and offers great and unique items that many people need and want in this area. I know several people that drive between 15 and 20 miles to shop here. Theyre open late which is great! Seems that many people including myself need things later in the evening, so the market does a robust business that hours when most businesses are closed. Especially neighborhood markets!
Great little Japanese market with good deli and great raw fish and sake assortment
Market next to the house, has everything I need. Also great to visit if you do not live in the area and looking for some Japanese dishes. Amazing veggie section as well.
The employee at the entrance is supposed to manage the line to keep social distance between customers. But, he was not doing anything, just chatting. Very disturbing under this circumstances. Wait line is very long I waited for 45 min. I never want to shop there again. Marukai on Pico has much better management and price is cheaper on most of everything. I dont understand why people still shop there...
Consistent service. A gem on the Sawtelle Strip. Open until 11:45pm, which is very convenient. There’s one parking attendant, the one with a gut, who’s got an attitude issue. It would be nice to finally have an automated parking gate installed here. It will automate enforcement, improve service, and decrease your cost of hiring manual labor.
Lota of great food and great employees. The customers are nice and the great selection of food and drinks makes shopping there is simple. I had a wonderful elderly lady assist me in figuring out check out lines
Hey all of your Japanese fixes here! Sushi, Rice Balls and lots of other goodies too...
There are several Japanese markets within a mile or two of this one, but this is the one I like the best. Their prices are generally pretty good, and they have a lot of Japanese products available. Parking can be a little difficult in the parking lot where this Japanese mall is, you might do better parking on the street.
My hunger begs for the excellent selection...
I go there with my mom and sometimes there will be a line but it won’t be to long of a line. So wear a mask & 6 feet apart.
Nijiya is like no place I have ever been. I could spend hours walking the aisles, examining items, and basking in the glory of the Simplicity of design and the incredible affordableness it all. One of the great unknown Treasures of Los Angeles.
Excellent sushi 🍣 go around 10
I went there with my 4-year-old daughter who has asthma and is disabled. I couldnt leave her in the car and they pressured me to put something over her face after I waited in line for an hour. This is totally unacceptable.
Always a pleasant experience doing my shopping here. Large variety of imported goods and selection of fresh foods and packaged foods makes it an easy place to go for a quick meal.Checkout is fast even on busier days. Parking can sometimes be a hassle during peak hours but not a big deal.
Great little Japanese market. You can find virtually anything you desire sourced from Japan. My favorite part would have to be the pre-packaged sushi though. They have a good variety, but I keep going back to the spicy tuna. They have a nice selection of bento boxes, as well.
I just love the great selection of authentic Japanese foods and vegetables. The various ingredients to make home made soups are what you see and taste in a fancy restaurant. The only thing I see missing is a variety of seafood meat produce. To me this is essential to any Japanese Grocery. Overall this is the place to get a variety of Japanese foods!
A great place to shop. Helpful staff, beautiful flowers, good produce. Favorable for prepared foods good for a couple . Highly recommend
Love their sushi great value for market sushi all your japanese food essentials sold here as well for a decent price. Prefer Nijiya sushi over Mitsuwa sushi
Really like this market. They have a wide selection of goods at fair prices. Included in this store are a number of ready made dishes to go. This is definitely worth a stop if your hungry and dont want to hit up a restaurant.Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz
Great inexpensive place to eat and dine. Ive come here on many occasions and am always satisfied. The only thing is that service is better in the morning.
Smaller than some of the other Japanese grocery store chains in Los Angeles, but still they cram an amazing selection of sushi, boxed lunches, Japanese snacks & candies, and produce in the size of this store. The sushi and other prepared Japanese food has always tasted delicious and it tends to go on sale in the late evening. Recently they have improved the aisle ways near the entrance leaving more room for people to walk.
Best Japanese market around! Bought sushi grade fish to make my own sushi plate, excellent farm fresh organic vegetables. All those condiments and meal preparation needs for amazing Asian dishes, plus of course, fantastic noodles. My favorite is buckwheat soba noodles. Give it a Try.. You wont be disappointed!
Granted that they carry imports and that can hike up the price on some products, but most of the stock here will run you a dollar or two more than your typical grocery market. Other than that they have a great selection of Japanese products. Check out the deli case for a quick lunch or your favorite prepared dish to enjoy at home. Its a huge selection. Its not the best place to do your weekly shopping if youre on a budget, but its perfect for specific ingredients if youre trying to make certain Japanese dishes, or a novel housewarming gift (look in the wine and candy/snack aisle).
Best Japanese supermarket in this area! Amazing choice of sushi, traditional Japanese meals and groceries. If you want to have something quick come here, oh and I recommend their crab 🦀 croquettes. They are addictive 🤤🤤🤤
