This is one of the citys greatest furniture stores!

This was my first and last time ever going into this store. It was the strangest experience Ive ever had at a furniture store. We walked in and it looked like they were doing temperature checks at the door so we waited but no employee ever came up to us so we walked in and starting walking around. We passed several employees and not a single one even turned to say anything to us. We walked around for about 10 minutes at one point passing a group employees that were just sitting around talking to each other, again not even stopping the conversation or turning to acknowledge us in any way. We will definitely not be going back again.

I bought a gliding recliner in August of last year, 2020 and had pick out the fabric, I received the rocking chair in October and keep the chair even though it was the wrong mechanism to the chair. As I was purchasing the chair I asked repeatedly if the delivered to my area as I bought the service agreement also and was assured that I was in the delivery area. The chair started to make a popping sound then a big pop. The mechanism had broke, so I called the store in Valparaiso and was sent to warranty service and I was told that the company does not service my area, but they where looking for someone close to me to fix it that was may . I was toldThat they where working on it, in July I called again and was told that the new mechanism would be ordered and they would contact us to deliver the product and it is now August 10 and still no respond from anyone about the new mechanism. Sorry disappointed in how I an being dealt with. Everyone was sooo happy to take my money for the purchase, but when it came to make it right they really dropped the ball. Shame on them. This is not how to treat your customers.

Liked the set up and most of the furniture showroom. Again, similar to Penny Mustard (also reviewed earlier) this showroom is alot better is prices and comparable quality. You can customize a great deal here as well. They do check your temperature when you enter and you should have mask at all times. Unlike penny, where I got the quotation and left, I actually ordered a sectional (end Feb) and their delivery will be in June. Hopefully I can update it after receiving the furniture. Love their furniture, pricey but the quality is there.

Great selection, quality furniture at a fair price. Our designer Debbie is the best! Shes helped us design our kitchen table, chairs and counter stools. Quality is not cheap but the prices are reasonable. Remember you get what you pay for.

Beautiful funiture too expensive

Very nice furniture but will not shop here again due to sales representative putting their interests before mine. They tried up selling a sectional with more pieces than necessary to increase the price. Spoke with a gentleman at another reputable furniture store who informed me that I could get the same couch with two pieces instead of three and I would save $1,300 on the overall price including delivery. Representative was condescending, stating that if I spent any less than $4,500, I would not find a comfortable and quality couch. Ended up purchasing that exact sectional for $3,250 instead of $4,565.

Maria Woodworth is an amazing sales and interior consultant for Walter E. Smith. Kevin the manager was also helpful. My wife and I bought a sectional, which after we bought it, we saw it at a lower price elsewhere and they price matched it. Maria and Kevin made sure my wife and I were happy throughout the entire process. Maria W. was especially kind and gracious. We have a large family and she was always eager to help and could relate. Shes awesome to work with for all your home needs. Best salesperson weve ever had with furniture and your interior design for your home.

We have been buying furniture from walter smithe at merrillville location since 2010. We always go with Genny Fagan. She is one of the reason we are going back again and again for the furniture purchase at this location. She is very professional, talented, knowledgeable and much much more. we love her. I’ve never been in the store, but I love the commercials. Whatever the Smithes are up to, they were making beautiful children for a minute there.However, I’m disappointed that my favorite sister, the THICC one, hasn’t been in on the commercials lately. Bring back the THICC one- baby I want to cuddle on the couch with you.

We worked with Michelle R. From Walter E Smith about 2 1/2 years ago when buying some furniture for our new downsized home. She was a delight to work with during that time. Her ideas, her ability to listen to our needs and wants, and arrive at the design feel we were looking for was incredible. Recently we decided to add a few new items, and we chose to return to Walter E. Smith, and sought Michelle’ s insight and talent again. She has been great. With her help, we made a long and short term plan. Once again, we were extremely pleased working with Michelle. Walter E. Smith has been phenomenal assisting us with questions about care of the furniture, and quickly responded to any concerns we have had. We bought two chairs and I absolutely love them. They fit perfectly in my home, and we get a lot of compliments on them. Keith is a good listener, was responsive to our style/preferences, and is friendly and helpful. He was easily accessible by text for quick answers to our questions about pricing, size or color options. I would do business with him in the future.

Keith C. was a pleasure to work. My husband and I came to look around and we never felt pressured. He allowed us to look without any worries. The fabric we selected was no longer available. He called and set up an appointment and texted me with other options. Today Keith designed fabrics with colors and textures I never would have chosen. I am so excited to see the end result. We are sure it would be amazing. I would definitely work with Keith and Walter E. Smithe for my next project.

Terrible experience with Walter E Smith. Can’t even begin to tell you how bad the customer service is. My order was late, they never called me about it! I spent 3 weeks calling them, leaving messages! No one would return my phone call and give me an answer! Still don’t have my order and they won’t let me cancel even when they were late delivering it, by weeks! Just bad experience with them all around! Don’t go there if you are expecting good service!

Our experience with Walter E Smithe in Merrillville has been unbelievably amazing. The entire staff have been courteous, respectful in a less than perfect situation. Without going into great deal, we needed repairs that were under manufacturer warranty. The customer service from the initiation of the claim to the actual repairs of our furniture was handled with superb personal respect, timelines and extreme quality. So often warranty work is not of great presidents to a company, however that was not so in this incidence.We are forever thankful to the person that initiated our claim to the dispatchers, repair men, pick up & delivery personnel for the quality work & respectful treatment we received from everyone at Walter E Smithe in Merrillville. The delivery drivers were amazing they took off their shoes before they entered without me even asking and then they were the sweetest with our 3 year old letting him “help” them out his big boy bed together !!! From beginning to end our shopping experience at WES was wonderful. Our designer at the Naperville location, Kerri Murphy, went above and beyond our expectations. I went into Walter E. Smithe with a plan to redecorate a room around a picture. I had no idea about the furniture or accessories I would use. Im a senior citizen, so this was totally overwhelming for me. I met with designer Teresa Lekan. She was very patient and more than willing to take all the time I needed to select the items that would accomplish my goal. Teresa was very helpful in decorating the entire room, not just selecting the furniture. Ive always been more traditional, but with Teresas ideas, the room I had hoped for, is now a reality, and not something I could have accomplished on my own. Im very pleased with the quality of Walter E Smithe furniture, and would definitely choose them for any future purchases.

I initially had a poor customer service experience with Walter E. Smithe and decided to that I wanted to cancel my order. Upon learning of the issue, the company demonstrated that they value my business and dealt with the situation. I was very impressed with how they handled it.

They are so friendly and they let you look around. Elevator takes you up to second floor where they have pop, water and coffee.

Nice furniture, but shipping to Colorado was quoted at $799 for 1 item and/or 10. They only ship to Indianapolis 1 day a month and Fridays ONLY. If you pick up the item up.... you yourself must carry it out of the store (employees/designers are not able) unless it is a Friday between 10 am at 12 pm. TOO many restrictions and unwillingness to cater to customers specific needs. The manager is trying to refute a full refund even though I have not received any product, by offering help to carry out the furniture AFTER the terrible post-sales service.

Beautiful furniture, but pricey. Fell in love with an oversized sofa....but it wouldnt fit through our doors. Oh well. On to the next store.

Cant say enough about my experiences with Walter E. Smithe and their designers. I have worked with two designers, the first being Gayla Pressner when I was looking for furnish my new home and later on and currently with Joe Bardoczi. Cant see myself purchasing furniture from anywhere else. Their designers have assisted me with picking paint colors for my walls, drapes and most currently fabric for upholstery covers. Every service you can imagine is provided by one store and by my designer. Thank you Walter E. Smithe.

Expensive very expensive but great quality

My parents always told me You get what you pay for. They were right! We met the most wonderful designer, Odeka Pollard, at the Merrillville store. Odeka is a gem! We trusted her completely, which doesnt always come easy. She designed a living room for us that we just love, love, love! The furniture is wonderful and we know it will last for years. This experience was a splurge for us, but now that we have our new living room, we are sure we made the right decision purchasing quality furniture.Thanks Odeka for your efforts and time to truly understand our wants and needs, and for being such a wonderful designer!
