Came here to buy hair and the lady asked if I was getting my hair done there…. I did not even know they did hair in the back but I am very pleased with my hair the staff were friendly and fast my same day appt was at 12 I only sat for about 20 mins before they started the price was reasonable

This beauty supply and hair salon is the only one Ive ever gone to in Houston. They are great at what they do. Just show them a picture and they will have you looking fabulous. I chose to only go here because they are professional, neat with their braiding and fast. They also dont braid extremely tight to where you have to worry about your edges which is very important to me since I am tender headed. Make sure you have cash. They only take cash for payment. There is a atm at the nearby Foodarama. I would suggest you get cash there before getting your hair done. This place is great. Thank you ladies at Essence!!

I been customer with Essence Hair Design since she first open .The owner is a very nice respectful Christan lady as well as a Christan atmosphere .The employee are very compassion about your hair and the styles that you want,and pleasant attitudes.I been a customer since 1998.I love this shop and would recommend it for guality beautiful work.

I got my hair done at the beginning of March. My experience with Essence Braiding was absolutely wonderful, it’s a one stop shop I also purchase hair from them as well. I arrived when they open and explain to them what I wanted, the price was reasonable. I got medium size box braids. They lasted for 3 and half months with proper care. It was definitely a life saver especially when the pandemic begin and I couldn’t get my hair done. I will be coming back soon to get my hair braided.

Fast service! wait time no more then 10mins before your seated and work is started

What I asked for and what I got was two different things and I get that but what piss me off is I paid $220.00 and two days later the braids were coming unraveled and more than six came out. When I went and complained the lady said we can fix it by burning the ends I told her that in the pic I gave the ends we’re not burned.This was last week on January 18, 2021 I went back in on January 19, 2021 to complain about the services they fixed some and told me to come back Friday by the time Friday came the ones they fixed plus eight more had come undone one fell out at my job. I know they are not going to give me a partial refund and they cannot do a knotless bob at all. So I went to another shop to find out that I didn’t even have knotless braids they felt so bad that they told me to take them down and they will redo my hair and are giving me a discount. The sad part is G-baby one of the three that braided my hair has braided my mom, my daughter, my sister, and my niece hair they have lost loyal customer for almost three plus years. I wish them the best but I’m taking my business elsewhere

The braiders here come and go. They do pretty good work most of the time. Check your hair before you leave sometimes they will take short cuts depending on who you get. Mrs. Tola is the owner.

These African ladies do great work!! 4 start, b/c it does take all day.😒Note: cash only, will cost you $160-$200 depending on the details of you want, it WILL take 4hrs, if two work on your head to 6hrs if not (COVID-19). Its worth it: again, good work cant rush beauty. I drive from Spring/Cypres b/c I havent found a spot near home, plus I support small black owners businesses.

I was referred by a friend and have been coming here for years. The staff is has always been friendly and professional and any service performed has been completed well. It’s hard to find a braiding salon that can execute your wishes, tame your crown in a beautiful fashion and a timely manner and but somehow the ladies of Essence have mastered it. Plus you can get all the beauty products you need in the same space.

I started going here about 6 years ago. Every time I go, I have a horrible experience. I always wait months or maybe even a year in between visits, thinking things would be different. Nope same experience. Ladies are rude when you have an opinion about how you want your hair. They get mad when you want what you asked for instead of what they suggest, like you haven’t dealt with your own hair your whole life. No sanitation between clients, eat over clients head, rude to other clients, and argue with each other in front of clients!!! I only keep coming back because of convenience but I WILL NEVER SPEND MY MONEY HERE AGAIN!

I was there this past weekend . They were extremely rude and complained that my hair was too long. * my hair is to my shoulders * i got my hair braided in individuals and I specifically asked them not to trim my braids from fear that would they cut my real hair. She assured me that she was not cutting my real hair. I get home and notice a blunt piece of hair sticking out of one of my braids. Knowing my hair was obviously cut . I took the Braid out and 4 INS of my hair was CUT off. From the Top of my head. I’m livid ...i could cry right now . Do your self a favor and don’t come here. I literally have to cut my hair now and I’m devastated.

After their remodeling the store has a better hair selection and beauty products. Im also happy that they didnt increase the cost of things after remodeling.

My braids were so tight. I could not sleep for 4 days. The 2nd day I had braids that were falling out, but the staff was friendly and it took them only 3 hours for box braids. If it wasnt so tight and didnt fall out everything would have been great!

Very unprofessional. Called 48 hours in advance for an appointment and when I arrive all chairs are full with clients and more clients waiting. Noone says a word. I say hello Im here for my 1pm appointment. They just stare at me and then finally someone speaks up and says can you wait an hour? No maam I can not!! And walked out. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Just unprofessional.

I’ve been going here since 2002 and I have only had one bad experience with one particular Braider who was mature and professional enough to understand my point and gave a genuine apology for not paying attention to my original style request. NOW this was probably successful because I didn’t allow her to finish ; the minute I realized she was not doing my hair correctly I stopped her and explained my concern. Needless to say we worked everything out and everybody went home happy she got paid I got a new hairdo. Overall I’ve had great experiences here, I’ve never experienced racism, rudeness, or unfair salon practice. Grant it things happen but even in my mishap the lady was able to own it and we moved forward. Everyone always compliments my braids. I can bring in a picture and they make it happen. Good quality good service and pretty good people.

I recently got freestyle braids and they really freestyled.... the back of my head they just threw braids in. Looked so tacky, I couldnt wear my hair down once the braids grew out. The portion of hair was so big with a tiny strand of braiding hair added. It looked horrible. I took my grandkids and asked for a certain style, the stylist couldnt do the small so she made it bigger than the style I showed her I want. Next time I get braids I will be going to braid experts and so will the babies....

I have been going to this place for YEARS, and it used to be great. Recently I went and there were new people that did a horrible job. The box braids were slipping out within three days (and I have a decent amount of hair), braids didnt last a month when before they would last three months easily. When I called and informed them that the braids were coming out, she tried to say it was because my hair was short (without even remembering who I was) and my hair is not short in any area. Taking them down were a horror story. Braids were super tangled and knotted. Super sad I have to find a new braids shop after all these years, but based on others recent stories and my own experiences, I will not be returning.

I was very disappointed with the service .The price I was quoted over the phone increased dramatically when I arrived to the shop .While getting my hair braided the employees were talking about other employees. I told them I wanted my hair mid back length and when they were finished it barely came to my shoulders(and they still charged the same price). I can not wear my faux locs down because it looks like I only have ten locs in my head.Now I have to buy some more hair and fix these ugly faux locs.I use to come here all the time to get my hair braided but I noticed the owner was not working in the shop anymore, so that probably why the quality of work has gone down.

This is the only place I get my hair braided and twisted! They are fast, courteous, professional, and affordable.

My sister referred me because my nieces get their hair done here. However I’m utterly disappointed! My 10 year old hair came out ok however my 9 year old was HORRIBLE! I want to scream! No effort at all part crooked, hair lumpy ... Not to mention my 10 year old heard my 9 year old stylist tell her stylist that my 9 year old hair was nappy and a struggle! Smh shame that a child heard that!! Still paid even tipped! BUT WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE! Here is a tip for you all if your customer service sucks SO DO YOU. This braid shop is literally 3 mins from my home and Ive never stopped here once to get my hair braided. I wanted feed in cornrows to make it easier for me when i have my baby next week so i decided to finally stop here and let them do it since it was so conveniently close. Feed in cornrows is easy enough right? Wrong! This lady put so much gel in my hair like i was at her house in her kitchen! I have never had gel used in my hair for cornrows. They were sloppily done and im very disappointed and will never be back! I shouldve made the drive to Suwa braiding like i always do.

My experience here was horrible. The staff was rude and the quality of work was horrible.Very unprofessional. I would be considered an alopecia client due to the damage at the front of my hair. The beautician made me feel so self conscious of my hair right.when she started working on my hair. And seemed as if she really didnt want to do my hair because of the damage. I guess thats why she half ass did my hair. My parts werent neat just the quality period was horrible. The entire time she worked on my head she was just talking not paying attention to how she was braiding my hair and constantly making slick insults in regards to my hair damage. And to make situations even worse. They are so supposed to be so god fairing people be constantly insulted AMERICANS and the choices on how we spend our money.If you dont like america go back to africa.She never compliment my hair as if she knew she was doing a horrible job. But made compliment to everyone else on how beautiful there hair was.When you go to the beauty shop you expect for the beautician to make your hair beautiful and make you feel comfortable. I hated the way i felt when i left here. And its sad because there arent many beauty shop in Missouri city. But i can tell you one thing for sure this one is not one you want to go to. They are rude, unprofessional and racist.
