These types of shops are what give mechanics a bad name. I took my car in, based on the good reviews from Google. I always do a quick google search of my car issue before I go to the mechanic so I at least have an idea of what to expect in repairs. My car was displaying textbook spark plug issues. I took it to Ward and after signing me in and getting my info real friendly, was made to sign an agreement to pay for an hours labor ($135) to diagnose the issue, then they’d call before they fixed it. That should have been my first red flag. Why the high charge just to diagnose? But I signed and left. 4 hours later, they call to tell me they’ll need two more hours to diagnose the issue. That they aren’t sure what’s going on, but it could be spark plug related, so they’ll check that next, among other things. They hadn’t even checked the spark plugs after an hour of diagnosing?! I came right over and picked up my car. I took it to Myrtle Auto Repair around the corner where they did their own diagnosis (free) and did the repair (spark plugs, wires, coil) for less than I would have paid in “diagnostic fees” at Ward.

We have used Wards for the last 10 years. Wards has consistently done quality work at a fair price. I take our family vehicles there, as well as our company vehicles. They are a family owned and operated business - and Jim is always available to answer questions or follow up on their work.Highly recommended.

Took car for purchase inspection with owner of car. They called owner for pickup & discussed repairs needed. Tho I was the one paying & made the appt, they never called me! & when I called, gave me a run down problem with a rattle but didnt check why cuz they didnt raise the car to look! & too late to discuss...but wanted payment over phone. Needless to say, not enough info & since owner had picked up car, I could not take a chance to buy. It was a waste of my time & money. Other AAA mech said was not the way to do it. & Jim, owner was rude from the start...said I was late 10min for appt after saying they dont make appts! he was not interested servicing me as a customer....thumbs DOWN

I found they have the highest level of technical competence and costs are fair and reasonable. They only recommend necessary services and do not pressure you on anything. On top of this they have great customer service.

When we moved to Ca almost 30 years ago Wards in Pasadena was recommended to us. Jim Ward has been there for us in so many ways since then that when they moved to Monrovia, we decided to drive the extra distance to them rather than use one of the numerous places that were closer. They check our cars before we make a long trip and sometimes find something that could have given us a lot of trouble in the middle of no where!! Theyve on occasion reminded me to show my AAA card for the discount I forgot about. One time our daughters car stopped and Wards was a few miles outside of AAAs allowed towing distance. She didnt understand what the new service people were telling her so she called Jim and he talked to them and helped her figure out her best move. There was nothing in it for him, but he took the time to help her anyway. More than once, hes told us a problem was under warranty if we wanted to take it to the dealer. Wed have never known the difference if he hadnt told us (and saved us the money!!). We find Wards people to be highly honest, helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable.

Ive been coming to Wards since I was in high school and theyve done a great job with all three cars Ive owned in the last 25 years. Today is a great example of why I go to Wards for everything.I only needed an oil change and debated about going to jiffy lube instead, but ended up deciding to go to Wards. While there they did their usual inspection and found that I had a nail in my tire so they drive it to the tire repair place and back and I paid one bill and they paid the tire repair place for me. Great service. Highly recommend.

We initially came here for a car diagnostic. They told us what was needed to be done with the car. We then said not to work on the car and that we’ll be back another day, but they worked on the car without our consent anyways and we ended up spending money that we didnt have at the time because they were so eager to get money from us. They also overcharged for that unwanted service. Finally, It seemed like they took advantage of the fact that we are females, thinking we didnt know anything about cars.

I have been taking my two old cars there for about 3 years wish I knew about this shop 40 years ago would have saved a lot of money, worries and cars. The people here are so caring they make sure I have a ride home even a rental car if they have to keep the car overnight or a few days. I always get the car back fixed and cleaned. Phenomenal! 4th gen family got it right.I am from out of town, broke down on freeway, had my truck towed to them, at suggestion from AAA, in the evening at closing time. They were extremely nice and courteous, helped me load luggage into one of their vehicles, and drove me to a hotel. They called before 9 the next morning with diagnosis. Before noon my problem was fixed and they picked me up at the hotel.The dealership I originally went to wanted 450 to diagnose and couldnt do it for 2 weeks.I cant say enough good about Wards. Outstanding! Thank you for making a bad situation in to a really great experience.

Not only did they promptly check the new car out to ensure I bought a good one, they then delivered it for me to the San Fernando Valley where hand controls will be installed so I can drive it. I met Jim Ward about 13 years ago, he was the coach of my AYSO Soccer league. My father and him formed a great friendship, and we started taking out cars there (10 to 12 Years ago.)I wasnt driving at this time, but I was looking for some work. Jim Ward didnt hesitate to give me an opportunity volunteering. I went in maybe 3 days a week for 5-8 hours and would help dispose and crush oil filters according to proper code, sweep the floors, I really did any little chore than needed attending to.It gave me some time to be around the shop, (before I was even driving.) It allowed me to see how the mechanics worked, get to know them on a more personal level. Not only was Jim charismatic, patient with every customer, but I found this in every person working there.The mechanics, the employees in the front (the first face you see when you pull in) that would check vehicles in, and handle paperwork, amongst other things; all of them where friendly, thorough, kind and have a smile on there face, and it isnt fake, because I can tell you they are happy to represent Jim Wards Auto Mechanic Service, and what is stands for.When you walk in the shop there a big banner hanging if the shop rafters it reads. The Least Expensive Job is the Job done right the first time. This really sums up the shop, they may not be as cheap as cheap as the many chain auto-repair places youll see around town, but I can assure you they may offer a low, even unbelievable price for a common maintains task but you will not have the assurance that you do taking your car to Jim Ward, because he does the job right the first time.If there is a problem that occurs later that week, hell take a look without hesitation and if he feels it is a result of there work. Jim will make sure its is taken care of as promised, he wont try and pull another dollar out of your pocket. Dont get me wrong he rarely doesnt get the fix right the first time, it has never been the case with myself, or any member of my family who have taken many cars there over the past 13 years, but I have seen situations as in any auto shop, where a problem re occurs, Jim Ward gets it handled, and your car back to you fast!To sum it up, Jim is one of those people who just radiates kindness, honesty, and I have never seen him without a big grin when he greets clients. I took a car in for repairs. I was considering paying out of pocket and needed a detailed estimate.They would not provide the estimate I needed and insisted that I go through insurance so they could submit the bid they wanted to use without needing my approval.The car was onsite for a few weeks and they were not willing to provide details about the repairs. This company is difficult to work with and did not provide any reasonable level of customer service.I was not able to determine a cost for repairs from this company and had the car towed to another repair shop that did provide the estimate and complete the necessary repairs.

Great and Honest Service. My dad has an Auto Repair Shop in Rowland Heights and we sent all his referrals to that shop when they call our shop. They do an honest and fair job just like our shop does. Also a family run shop- hard to find now days.

We moved to southern California in 1992 and a couple coworkers recommended Wards to us. We started taking our cars there, and would never go anywhere else now. They are low key and never try to sell us something we dont need, theyre friendly, reasonable, and happy to give us a ride to or from the house even though we dont live close to the shop. They have saved us money numerous times by telling us when something is still under warranty and could be fixed for free at the dealership; they could have done the work, charged us, and wed have never been the wiser. But thats not the way they do business! Our daughter had car trouble on a trip and her car was towed to the nearest garage. She didnt understand what they were telling her needed to be done so she called Jim to ask his advice. He offered to call and speak with them himself and then explain the problem to her in lay terms and help her decide what to do--no charge for his time even though he got nothing out of it. Over the years, weve taken several different brands and styles of cars to them and theyve never failed us. We wouldnt trust our cars to anyone elses care! They are the absolute top of their field.

We first became customers of Ward Service when they were located on the corner of Green and FairOaks, in Pasadena. Their good work and honesty have kept us loyal.

Friendly, thorough and explain and prioritize needed repairs, and they take you home and pick you up and wash your car when they are finished.

$250 labor only job that another repair shop would do for $60. During my conversation with Jim he would replace old fatigued fasteners with new ones. He used the old ones. I visited another shop and had upgraded new fasteners changed for free. Jim mentioned that I talk too much. I suggested sending my friends here, his reply was I could be sued if I did. I didnt see a lot of private vehicles getting serviced here just police and fire vehicles. Jim wished he could have sold me the parts I came in with but he couldnt source them out.

For the last 37 years Wards has been my go-to place for any of my car/truck repairs. Electrical or mechanical they do it all with a smile. Do yourself a huge favor and stop on by. Theyll leave the coffee pot on for you!

Fast a friendly service. I took in my 2006 Ford explorer with the engine light on and theyfound the problem quickly and repair it the same day.

This is a good shop to fix older vehicles. They went out of their way to fix a part that the dealership refused to fix.

Multigenerational family businesses are rare these days, but Ward Service is a shining example of the breed. We take them all the mysterious problems and are happy at their eagerness to find the answers for our older but prized car.

While driving home to San diego on a 100 degree day, my car started to overheat and I took the next exit and after a cool off took it to this highly rated garage. I was greeted courteously and told to wait in their air conditioned waiting room. An hour later they said the coolant was low and I should be good to go. I mentioned that my AC was also not working (my home garage had assumed it was mechanical and would take a full day to fix) and asked if they could check the freon. They agreed and said it would take 90 mins. 90 mins later, I had AC after a freon check and top-off. I was hot and tired after getting up at 5am to drive to LA and they got me on the road--as a walk up--in under 3 hours knowing I was a stranded motorist. Wish I lived closer--theyd have my business for life!!

I would give zero stars if possible. Took my car in after AAA recommended I do so on a Sat. They didnt tell me they were closed so I ended up dropping it off for the weekend. Told me I would be getting a discount. What a joke. The problem on my VW Jetta ended up being ignition coils needing to be replaced. Got charged $55 for diagnosis PLUS $200 to look inside. Then separate $388 parts and labor. Over $600 dollars later learned my lesson. Im all for making a buck but cmon this is crazy. Jim had the nerve to tell me but you get a AAA discount.If the dealer puts the diagnosis charge towards the total repair costs so should they. Please avoid this place. Just another typical mechanic ripping people off. Theyre super nice but dont let that fool you. I work for a large company locally here in Monrovia and am telling all my coworkers as well as friends and family about this experience and to avoid Wards. This is exactly the type of experience youre afraid of and why people are so distrustful of mechanics. $275 dollars to open the cover and inspect coils? Crazy and highway robbery.

The shop is opened Mon thur Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Techs work from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday thur Friday.

Have plenty of money available when you go to this place they dont tell you the inspection fee is $120 per hour before they pick your car up and take a look at it I sent my car here on an AAA review they want an additional $240 because they couldnt diagnose the problem I pulled my car out of there real quick took it to another shop and they found a fuse blown they only charged me $165.
