Dave and his team are truly amazing and knowledgeable while providing everyone with some good lighthearted humor. The selection and quality of the wood species available is quite impressive. We took home a large cut of black walnut to make a coffee table and end tables and are looking forward to posting the finished products shortly. We will definitely be back and would recommend Spachts to everyone and anyone looking for lumber. On a side note, be sure to take notice of - and compliment Dave on - his truly spectacular pant pleat. :)
Great source for hardwood lumber, including massive slabs with live edge. Dave is very helpful, will sell partial boards when you only have a small project.
Best mill around. Dave is more than knowledgeable and willing to help find the perfect lumber for your project. Cant wait to go back!
My first visit here and very impressed. Met the owner Dave and he gave me a tour, very nice guy. Great place for quality wood, selection is great. You can get furniture quality wood here at different sizes and thickness. Plenty of different types of wood to choose from and price and type are marked. Wood is properly dried and milled. Lots of live edge options too. I will definitely be back for my next project. From the wood hobbyist to the wood working craftsman, you will not be disappointed.
Best place within 100 miles of Philly to get hardwoods. Dave is super friendly and willing to help out if youre a little lost. Selection is fantastic and prices are very fair.
Beautiful family run Sawmill with a pretty amazing range of planks available for purchase
I love Spacht Sawmill. Dave is very helpful, knowledgeable, and will never push a product on somebody. His inventory of live edge slabs and dried lumber makes me drool every time I walk in. I have been going here for the past four years and am very satisfied. The lumber is predominantly, but not only, domestic: cherry, black walnut, different maple, different oaks, ambrosia maple, sometimes curly maple, pine, poplar, and others.the live edge slabs are where I find the species can differ more and will include those listed above as well as english walnut, cedar, elm, and the occasional less main stream species. I highly recommend a trip to see Dave for the beginner and advanced wood worker.
My wife and I made the trip to find some quality live edge wood for our fireplace mantel. We meet Dave who spent almost an hour with us finding the perfect piece of wood. He took the time to explain the ins and outs of the mill and the different types of wood and cuts. We left knowing much more than we arrived with. Its rare you find a place like this! Keep up the awesome service Dave!Just an update with some pictures. Dave again helped us out and gave us great pricing and exactly what we were looking for. We used the rough sawn lumber to wrap our beam and make a entryway bench and coat rack.I will be coming back for lumber for a farm house table!
Great lumber mill with is an excellent selection and good prices.
I honestly didn’t even know that places like this still exist!! local wood with fair prices! dave was funny & very helpful. so grateful we stumbled upon this place, we will 100000% be returning customers!spacht sawmill did NOT disappoint 😌
The quality of the products available are always first rate. When I have the option when making a product for a customer I will always buy my wood through this mill.
I showed up on a Thursday afternoon around 3:30 pm while Dave was straightening up outside, and it was obvious they were closed/closing up. I asked if they were closed and Dave told me, Thursday afternoon, Friday & Sunday they were closed. Dave followed by asking me where I was coming from. I explained that I was close and glad to come back Saturday, yet was kind enough to insist on showing me the shop. This is a guy, getting ready to go home, offering to show me his shop and stock despite being closed and the shop already closed for the day.If you come from a good family or have people in your life that are kind to the core, that is what Dave is. I’m a nobody-hobbyist in the woodworking world, but drove up in my sedan 3 hours after they closed. You could easily tell that I wasn’t a big customer, but instead, Dave Re-opens his shop, introduces himself to me, gives me a full-on tour, and even let me grab a few rare pieces that he sawed for me. I hung out for a half hour-unrushed, it was amazing.1. Dave is a magnificent person, kind and friendly. I highly doubt anyone would ever contradict me here & if they did - I would not believe it.2. His prices are way better than Home Depot / Lowe’s. (Cash only I think).3. From hobbyist to woodworker. Just go meet him.I asked him when the best time to come in, he told me Saturday morning after 9:30. (I believe they are open earlier than that too).He has many types of wood, even rare finds, specialty woods, etc.Highest recommendation possible!
Super friendly. Very fair prices. Great selection of local wood.
A working sawmill that sells hardwood to small cabinetmakers and woodworking hobbyists. They offer 1-hour group tours that must be scheduled in advance.
Super nice place! They are super helpful and friendly. I would come back again.
Everyone there was great, and were a huge help for my wife and I- especially considering we had literally never bought wood until today. Amazing selection, especially if youre looking for live edge pieces. Make sure you bring cash (there are banks nearby in case you didnt bring enough) and read the FAQs before you go
This is an awesome place. My 19 year old is starting woodworking and Dave is so helpful and knowledgeable and patient helping him get started! Highly recommend!!
Ive been avoiding this place for awhile since Im not a huge fan of hotdogs, but dang was I missing out! I came here for the first time last week and got the classic bratwurst with fries and it was bomb! I love how the hotdogs are almost mini size which pairs perfectly with beer! And can we talk about those crispy, Belgian fries?! Sooo delicious!! And starting last week, they set up benches outdoor so it really feels like a German pub. Love how they used their outdoors creatively during this covid season! And hand sanitizers at every table!
Dave was very helpful and had exactly what we needed! He even was kind enough to help joint some pieces. 5 Star service!
My 16 year old son went here alone to buy wood as he is starting his own woodworking business. He came back raving at how nice he was treated and all the help he got. Thank you for being so kind to my young entrepreneur. From this experience and the other reviews you are clearly great people!!
Dave is very helpful and he had an amazing selection of premium lumber and slabs. A must visit for any wood worker.
I am a younger guy, very new to the hobby of wood working. Between my inexperience and my fear that my small quantity buying would be considered a nuisance to a non-big box store, I was extremely nervous to go to any lumber yards in person. I am so glad I trusted the other reviews for this place and went because at this point, I feel foolish for waiting or being nervous. Dave was an awesome guy that answered questions, helped me decide and never made me feel as though my lack of knowledge to the topic was ridiculous and not worth explaining. Even the other customers (some of which seemed like legitimate contractors/ professionals) that were there were incredibly friendly, laid back and talkative making me think this place has a generally awesome community of shoppers as well. Im generally a very anxious guy that internally freaks out in these kind of situations but ultimately, it became an extremely relaxing experience as I looked over an amazing selection of cut lumber and live edge slabs. If the quality and variety of selection wasnt enough, his prices also are far and away superior to any big box store or lumber yard that Ive managed to get quotes from (many arent even responsive to small time shoppers). Unfortunately for Dave, he will have to deal with me again in the near future.
Just got back and I definitely recommend this place. Dave is very welcoming and helpful, but will get right to business. This is both rare and refreshing these days, as most customer experiences have you dealing with peoplebots. Nice guy who knows how to banter plus fair prices equals a great experience.
I just discovered this place as per a recommendation from Craig from Philadelphia Furniture Workshop. Great place plenty of selection, prices were very reasonable and everybody there was pleasant. I will certainly be returning for future projects.
First time project. Went to Spacht and they have a very nice selection of live edge pieces. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. Thanks for all your help! I can see more projects coming down the pike.
My husband and I went here to find unique options for a headboard. They have beautiful wood, including more natural options that would make lovely tables. We picked up beautiful walnut boards that are just stunning. The prices are very reasonable, and people were friendly. Well definitely go back for our next project. A tip: drive to the back of the place--past the mill and the shed. The workshop in the back is where all the finished, priced pieces are.
The guys are all super helpful and truly care about your project. I built an outdoor bar using the live edge slabs. They have a great selection, and even helped load my wood into my vw bug convertible. They deserve more than 5 stars!
Found the perfect live edge slab for a bar top. Dave was very patient in showing us every possible shape, size, species, and prices (which were very reasonable for the excellent quality) available. He also gave some great advice on finishing techniques, without sounding like a know it all you may encounter at other shops. Dave is extremely easy to talk to. I could have hung out with him and the other guys who showed up all day! I doubt Ill need to shop around ever again.
I have been buying lumber from Dave Spacht for a few years and would definitely recommend him. He has a very good selection of domestic hardwoods like cherry, walnut, maple, white oak and more. His prices are very good and I have always leave knowing that I have been treated fairly. I really like that he cuts and dries his own wood so he knows his product which helps when trying to select the right boards. He also has a decent selection of slabs. One of the best things is that Daves sawmill is the perfect size, big enough to offer good selection and small enough to provide personal service.
I was looking to build a stand-alone multi-tier pipe shelf. I wanted the shelves to be live edge, so I Google-mapped this place and drove myself up to Spacht Sawmill. The guys here (Gary, Dave, Bob) were great. They knew exactly what I was trying to accomplish and had some good advice. They helped me select a wood slab and after I purchased it, they cut it down to the rough size I was looking for; which was a huge help because I didnt have a table saw. There are some really cool looking pieces here. I ended up coming back twice for black walnut. I see myself coming back a number of times now that I know this place exists.
Went there for the first time today and cant say enough. Excellent choices of wood a, excellent friendly service reaand verysonable prices. I look forward to doing business with then in the future.
Dave and his crew are super nice people who are always willing to take the time to share their vast knowledge. The place has a fantastic selection of local hardwoods in various grades and thicknesses for whatever project you need. A friendly smile, a ton of help and fair prices. What more could a woodworker want?
The selection is amazing and Dave made me feel very welcomed even after telling him I was a sawmill virgin. He has beauuutiful slabs that will instantly inspire. Really fair prices. I was thrilled with what I was able to find in the smalls area. This will be my new go to place.
Always perfect product at a fair price. Dave is very helpful with lumber selection and with alternative suggestions that will save you some money. He does grade lumber where applicable, other places just charge at the highest price. Ive been a customer for several years and Spacht Sawmill is my go to for lumber.
Dave and his team are great to work with. As a novice woodworker they are easily to talk with and give great advice and help guide you to the right wood for your project. Gary is a wealth of knowledge for your project as well. Highly recommend!!!
Fantastic experience with these funny guys! They absolutely helped me out with great advice and some great prep work on my lumber! Plan on getting all my future projects lumber from here!!
On my first time visit, Dave gave me a quick tour of the sawmill. Theres a great variety of wood species, all in excellent quality for fine woodworking and at great prices. I will certainly be back for more and highly recommend this place to others, no matter the size of your project.
Tremendously friendly. Dave was helpful in answering my questions. I was pleased with his prices as well
I went to Spacht Sawmill for the first time to get pieces for a woodturning class, and they were great. Dave is a very nice and friendly guy and provides very fair prices. I will definitely be going there to get wood for all my projects. I would definitely recommend!
Dave is the best. Walking through his sawmill feels like going back in time. The assortment of beautiful woods in incredible, and he even gets some great local exotics in. Prices are very reasonable. Very few businesses like this left, and Im happy to support such a great guy and amazing sawmill.
Spacht Sawmill has been most helpful in making our wedding rustic like my fiancé and I have been planning. Dave is a genuine person, and his knowledge and tips have come in handy. Good man, good business.
Every visit is a wonderful experience. Beautiful wood and conversation. I learn something new or hear a good story every time Im there. Truly a gem!
Came here with my mom on a Thursday afternoon for a project she needed help with in her house. It was just us and Dave and a whole lotta wood. After a quick tour of the shop we explained to Dave kind of what we were after. After a few jokes he showed us what a black walnut looks like and a cherry. Once he sprayed the wood we were able to see the true beauty of it. I instantly fell in love with beautiful piece of live edge black walnut (even though I wasn’t there for that) that I am going to make into a coffee table. Although we are still unsure of what to do with one project, I left with an awesome piece of wood and a whole lotta knowledge. Great prices awesome owner. Will be back for sure.
Friendly (and funny) folks at Spacht. They have a great selection of lumber. They are cash only, but there is an ATM around the corner at the gas station if you decide you need more money than you planned on spending. They can surface and cut down boards for you at reasonable rates.
Dave was great! Gave me the tour, let me source exactly the wood I was looking for (black walnut!) and offered a fair price. Amazing find and Ill definitely be back for other projects. Thanks!
Ive been buying wood from Spacht for more than 20 years. He has always had what Ive wanted, he always has a good price, and he and his staff are always friendly and helpful. Twice, Ive had logs milled, he made it great experiences.
I went to Spacht with a project plan for a kitchen table. In addition to helping me select the right materials, they reviewed my plans and made suggestions to improve the finished product. Excellent customer service and lumber.
Great selection of lumber (many species) and lots of live edge to choose from! Dave was very helpful and his prices are very fair!
Great people and the lumber is the best you will find anywhere.. Prices are very reasonable.. The Ambrosia Maple is the best you will find.
This WAS a great sawmill where one could take a log to be cut. Unfortunately, they no longer take custom sawing.
This place was a recent find for me, and I couldnt be more pleased to find a pleasant place to source furniture-grade lumber so close to home. Found my new toy store!
Went there for the first time today. I think this is my new place to buy wood. Dave is very helpful, knowledgeable, and an all around great guy. They have a very good selection with great prices!! I would have paid three times the price at a big box store. Also Dave has been doing this for longer than I have been alive. This place is a hidden gem!!!#woodworking #woodworker #redoak #norristown #bluebell #philadelphia #montco #montgomerycounty #philly
Very friendly great lumber
A great place to get quality furniture grade lumber and advice
Awesome customer service and great selection! If you have raw wood needs this is the place to go!
Dave is wonderful. I get a lot of wood from Spatch Sawmill! If you need wood for a project, get it from Dave Spatch!
Called to ask about a backyard tree and was teased and mocked for my question. The man I spoke to was very rude. I would never do business with this company.
Come for the wood, stay for the hours of literal shoptalk.
Friendly and knowledgeable
Small family owned sawmill. Great selection of native hardwoods, particularly the slabs, with better than fair prices. Great service and advice from enthusiastic and passionate woodworkers, including the owner Dave. Its fun to just to browse to get inspired for projects.
