I went to a Astou’s for the first time today looking for two particular products. When I walked in, I was greeted in a friendly and helpful manner. I was directed to the sections that contained what I was looking for and allowed to browse at my leisure. Their selection of products is amazing (I’ve never seen anything like it)! Prices were very reasonable. Astou was wonderful and made herself available to answer any of my questions! There were also several women getting their hair done in the next room, so it’s nice to know that their salon services are available on Sundays! For the quality of customer service and selection – I will be back!!!! Thanks for everything Astou (-Ray)

This was by far the most comfortable and professional experience I have had while getting braids.I got small knotless braids and was in and out within 6 hours.Amy was courteous and conscious of my time and comfort.The salon is beautiful and above all extremely clean.I am so happy I found this place for professional hair braiding. A huge plus is the salon has a beauty supply attached that has everything you could ever think of needing. The salon owner even helped me find a product I could only describe.Id highly recommend this place.

I have been coming to this shop for 3 months although I like the way they style my hair when I walk into the beauty supply area Astu and the whole family watches every move as if I’m going to steal. I want to support them because they are people of color and so am I, I truly want to support her but she treats me like the white people does with a watchful eye. When I need my hair braided any style these ladies who are sisters are good the best. I enjoy going to get my hair done at this wonderful salon.

DO NOT GET YOUR BRAIDS DONE AT ASTOU AFRICAN BRAIDING....I went to Astou on December 1, 2017 for her to see my hair and select the Remi (natural) hair for my micro braids. As a first time weave, breading hair, breads wearer, I brought and showed Astou the picture of the micro braids style (micro all of my hair w/wavy hair at the ends) I desired. Since some of my hair is bleached blonde, I wanted the Remi hair to continue washing and conditioning every 2-3 weeks to protect my hair. I stressed to her that I was going in braids due to continuous workouts and needed to put my hair up in a ponytail.I went on Saturday, December 02, 2017 to get the micro braids. She had me to look at pictures on her wall. I told her I wanted the micro braids I saw in one picture and the type of wavy hair I saw in another picture. Her sister or family member did micro braids in a small portion at the top right area of my head. She did a sew in. I was at the shop for 7 hours (to include wash and blow dry). When I looked at the hair once done I didn’t see the ends of my hair sticking out from the braids before I left because Astou sprayed something on the braided area and rubbed her hand over the braided area. When I got home that night, I looked in the mirror (better lighting and a clean mirror) and saw my natural hair sticking through the braids. Please see the attached pictures of my hair; done by Astou’s African Braiding.... Horrible work. Judge for yourself.I called Astou and paid for the conversion on my phone for her to get the message. I tied my hair down as she directed since I’ve never worn a weave or braids hoping that would help. Less than 12 hours after my service at this place, I took the braids out. The girl had cut my natural hair (I heard her using scissors but didn’t know she was cutting my hair.I asked Astou to refund half of my money for the service, not the hair cost. She refused citing her sister had to be paid. She offered to micro braid my hair Tuesday afternoon despite me telling her I’m only available on the weekends. Her business didn’t perform the requested service, cut my hair, and wouldn’t accommodate the customer for their screw up. UNPROFESSIONALISM AT ITS BEST.

I am not one to write reviews, especially since its not a positive one, but I felt highly compelled to write one so others do not waste their time and energy into this business until those who work here decide to improve their customer service and attitude. This was the first time my friend came here and is still upset from what happened, so I will tell her story. She was ready to drop $500+ here. She figured it would be a win-win situation to not only get the things that she needed but to also support a local black-owned company, especially since the pandemic continues to affect so many businesses.The woman behind the counter in the front of the store was on her phone when she first greeted my friend. She told the woman that she was interested in buying lace-front wigs. The woman pointed to the selection at the top, told her about one discounted wig, said these wigs were nice and then went back on her phone. Since this was my friends first time buying a wig, she used her phone to look up the wig brands that were on display as she browsed. Wigs are expensive so she wanted to choose wisely. The woman seemed more interested in watching what was loudly broadcasting from her phone than providing my friend assistance, so she continued to browse and analyze which wig would be the best one for her. My friend was MOMENTS away from making her final decision when the woman suddenly told her in a very rude tone, “I see what you are doing! You are looking up wigs online! We don’t allow that here!” My friend was shook! We never ever heard of that before and we have been to numerous hair supply stores across SoCal. As well, this so-called policy of not looking up wigs on your own phone was not stated by the woman beforehand when she first told my friend about the wigs, nor was it clearly stated in the store. The woman also accused my friend of touching and researching each and every wig that was on display which was a lie. My friend was very specific about the particular style she wanted and was only interested in 3 wigs from their selection. For the woman to verbally attack her was appalling. My friend told the woman that since this was an investment, she wanted to make sure she was making the right decision, especially since the woman was on her phone the whole time. My friend left and vowed to never do business at this place again. Hopefully this business can work on their customer service and professionalism because there are people out here trying to support! In the meanwhile, my friend is investing her money elsewhere.

They are the only ones I will let braid my hair now. I started coming here 1 year ago and I always leave more than satisfied with my hair. They are the fastest and most gentle braiders ever. I have really long thick hair which many people find difficult to braid but they never have a problem and my hair always turns out better then I expect. These ladies are awesome. If your looking for a new place to get braided look no further you wont find a better place in north county.

I have been going to this shop for around 3 1/2 years. Its clean inside, and quiet for a salon. Not silent, but not lots of loud obnoxious gossip, and I appreciate the calm atmosphere. The braiders are professional. They work quickly, and they do NOT overbook. So I have never gone in for service and been kept waiting for hours while they work on others during my appointment time. I respect that. The prices are reasonable for someone working from an actual salon and not from home. So while it isnt as cheap as a home braider, they save you time by not needing to stop for their kids or whatever. Time is money, and they do good, fast work. I get many compliments after every visit. Thats why I took the time to post this review.

They are very clean, informative and amazing! They did an amazing Knotless Goddess braids on me and i am so inlove! Its so beautiful and got a lot of compliments already. Best quality and amazing people! Definitely going to be a regular for them now when i get my braids done!

I took my son to get 4 braids and the braids was horrible and start making excuses saying the hair styles who usually do hair not here. I will never take my son to that braiding shop again.

This place is GREAT!!! My son gets his hair done here for cheapest place around town. He uses pictures from internet and they keep very close to design. They do all types of braids and twist designs. Sometimes the payment is in cash.I have called ahead to schedule an appointment and I have just stopped by in the evening. Both have worked. There is also a supply store adjoining so no need to worry about supplies.

They rip through your hair causing hair breakage . They over book appointments and insult you while they are late to start your hair.

The shop was very cute and clean.The ladies were nice and friendly. The service was was good and my stylist was very fast. I love how I was able to explain the style that I wanted And the stylist brought it to life. I rate this shop a 4 out 5 because the set prices are high a bit high in my opinion. But over I was very happy with my experience.

I came in looking for a wig and multiple hair items in their beauty supply section.The lady at the front was on the phone the whole time and barely even greeted me. She only came to the back of the store where the wigs were to tell me not to open the wig package while she was still on the phone. I asked about the wig I had opened as I wanted to find something similar. She half heartedly mentioned another wig that was in a similar style but she seemed like I was interupting her phone conversation.It is a big shame about the low level of customer service, as I had come here to buy a wig and support a black business close to home. I will be looking for another beauty supply close by.

The manager and staff treat me so well and this is the best braids I have ever had. Now they are selling hair and hair care products so you have every thing you need right here. We are from out of state and made a last minute appointment for my daughter to get corn rows. They were extremely gracious and expeditious! My 12 year olds hair was beautifully done in just over an hour at a reasonable cost. Now my daughter can enjoy her swim in the ocean this week without worry or fuss. Thank you Astou!

I went in to find a good moisturizer for my hair. But, because I have dreads, they just kept giving me locking gel. They did not know what products to recommend or how they worked. They did have some good products to choose from.

Astou does the best braids Ive ever had! They can do whatever I ask, and everyone is patient with working with me to figure out exactly what I want. The prices are great; its not ridiculously expensive. They even have their own hair available in case you dont want to go buy any yourself. The braids always last a really long time, and they dont pull out your hair when theyre putting them in. Theyre very friendly, and I definitely recommend going to them!

They are fairly priced, the products are good, and they have amazing customer service update: I bought a skirt from there for my event. Omg its so comfortable, it has pockets, and it wasnt horribly expensive. I also bought hair for my quick weave and everyone says it looks like my hair.

I love this shop I’ve been growing my locs/dreds for a year now (amateur) watching YouTube and needed someone to professionally do them. I was referred by a military friend, best referral ever. Now I go back ever 3-4weeks for a re-twist etc.

My daughter and I got our hair braided here and needless to say, we love the way our hair turned out. We both experienced breakage that eventually made our hair super short, especially in the back. They were very careful while braiding our hair and the caught what I thought I going to have to shave off lol. These ladies are wonderful!!

I had a very good experience here. Initially we disagreed on how I wanted my hair done, so I left because I will not pay for a style that I dont want. Astou called me back and said that she wanted my first experience with her shop to be a good one and asked me to come back. She agreed to do my hair the way I wanted, and I am delighted with the results. Not only are they excellent braiders, but the shop is immaculate and they care about their professional reputation. After a very disrespectful encounter at Sunnys, we went to Astou and she helped us. She was very nice and respectful to us. Her shop was warm and the other ladies working in there were just as warm. I recommend spending your money here where you are treated with respect. Its not just for Black women, because there was a white women in there trying on wigs and she was just as respectful to her as she was to us. Any mone you work hard all week for should be given to someone who will treat you like a human being and not like a criminal because of you skin color. Thank you Astou!

Terrible experience. I called and made an appointment for mini kinky twists after purchasing my own hair. The woman I spoke with on the phone said she remembered me from earlier and would give me an extra discount because I purchased my hair from her. When I arrived to get my hair done, the price was increased by $30 because my hair was longer than what they wanted to work with. Ill never go back or recommend this place to anyone that asks.

You are in a sense bullied and yelled at by Astou and her family/staff as they get OFFENDED and defensive when you ask any questions about your hair, (something as simple as the size you want your twists)! I have been here three times already over the years, not completely satisfied but I wanted to support them, however, their poor customer service remains the same. They get very loud and aggressive when they are talking to you, and are very unreceptive of your hair style requests. They basically take offense to your needs. I will NEVER spend my money here or recommend anyone else here, EVER!!!

I’ve been here twice. Brought my sister who has Cerebral Palsy and Astou was so sweet and professional. We were in and out and she knew exactly what to do for my sister.

This salon is overrated. It is overpriced i dont know what yall get charged but I was not paying $250 for Senegalese twists. I had gotten box braids instead and ended up paying $190 for the worst box braids ever they are too short, thin, and stiff!! I left there pissed!! Never again!!

She has been doing my hair for the last 7yrs. and no matter where I go I always come back to her for my braids.

I called in advance and was very clear on what I did and did not want for my hair. I was not happy nor impressed with the half way job they did. I would never suggest going to them for braids.
