This facility is not operating well at the moment. I would blame Covid, but most places are running at typical capacity again so I have a hard time believing that is the only reason. We went in and ordered 6 pairs of glasses for our family in early August. We wanted to wait until all of them were in before going to pick them up, and one pair apparently had multiple issues so it took about 6 weeks to get them all in. When we first ordered them, they told us it would likely be 2 weeks. Then, we had to wait until they were open to go in and get fitted for them, but they are not open 7 days a week like a store in the mall should be. Apparently, they have been short-staffed for quite a long time and are only open a few days a week. I seriously think they only have 2 employees, which is quite obviously not enough to service their customers. After we finally picked up our 6 pairs of glasses, we realized about 2 weeks later that one lens in my daughter’s glasses did not have the requested blue-light blocker that it was supposed to have. This was supposedly the pair that kept getting made wrong to begin with, and it was STILL wrong. Now it has been over 2 weeks since I called to have them re-order the correct lens and I have been calling them for 2 days - at different times of day - and no one EVER answers the phone. Not only do they not answer the phone, but they have never returned any of my phone calls throughout the whole process. I don’t blame the ladies that work there as I am fairly certain they are doing the best they can, but I definitely blame management. If you are considering this store for your eyeglasses (we have been there a few times over the years because they carry good quality glasses for kids at great prices), consider going elsewhere if you need them quickly and without hassle. Right now, they cannot provide either.
Had exam which was very thorough. Dr Did great exam . Thats where it ends . Bought polarized sunglasses for $160 and glasses total spent $580 even took Lens warranty. Frames right side screw out within month . Had to get lens redone due to scratching even with warranty it wasnt free it was a percentage. Sunglasses worn twice kept in case in truck to use this year and lens had like fine lines throughout the lens checked and the were polycarbonate went in and since it was just over a year said nothing could be done, tossed them in their garbage can . Now the right side frame has pulled out where they attach to frame and cant be fixed . I will never use there optical again . Ive been wearing glasses close to 40 years and have never had a problem like this .
The optometrist was very thorough, with the eye exam, and answered the questions I had for him. My problem is with the sales staff that likes to push more expensive choices when buying your glasses. With my insurance, I normally dont pay a cent. Instead of the sales person explaining costs, she just ran it over my insurance limit. Do your homework before coming here knowing if you want a plastic, glass, or poly-carbonate lens and what coatings you want on your glasses.

This optical office has probably the finest optician anywhere. I got my exam from Dr Spafford and he was very thorough with my examination he answered all questions and actually took the time to make sure my eyes were well checked. This office has true professionals who actually know what they are doing. Update to this post this office is a has been, the good opticians have moved and is now staffed with lower grade service. The Doctor is good but the opticians cant fit glasses very well I would suggest buying your glasses elsewhere after getting an eye examination.
Thank you! They have fixed my glasses twice now for free. One of the times I really thought the glasses were a gonner. The young women fixed them in 10 minutes (middle of day on a monday). I have gotten nothing but good service here. The eye exam to get the glasses was efficient and well done. The doctor figured out that i just needed to wear one prescription for both eyes, instead of selling me new contacts (when my contacts werent working so well anymore).Good prices. Great selection of frames.
I was scheduled for an eye exam on a Saturday but when I arrived I was told It wouldnt be a thorough exam because the optometrist was not there. Which I was not initially told about. The receptionist then told me shed take my name and number to reschedule the appointment and asked which days would work for me. I told her, and she said that she would call me back after she made sure it would work and then never called back. All in all it was very unprofessional and I am highly dissatisfied with the service. I would not reccomend going there
Terrible. Even though I was able to get an appointment for an eye exam quickly, it would have been worth the wait elsewhere for a more competent optometrist and staff. Even though the optical center inside the JCPenney store is tiny, the staff seem to have little idea what is going on. Dr. Stafford, who only works there on Thursdays, was ok in that he did a thorough exam, but hes very impersonal and seems generally bored. The initial contact prescription he gave me was off and the trial pair of contacts left me with blurry vision. My standard brand of contacts had not been stocked so he gave me a different brand. Staff told me to wear the contacts to the follow up appointment since Dr. Stafford likes to exam them already settled in the eye. I endured blurry vision until he saw me and instead of looking at them in my eye he immediately had me take them out to check if the issue was that I was wearing them inside out, because after wearing contacts for the past 20 years Im apparently an idiot who cant tell if shes putting them in correctly. After he figured out the script was off I wasnt offered an updated trial pair of my regular brand of contacts. And he wrote the new script for a brand of contacts that does not exist. I called to verify THREE times and asked for a call back that I never received. Ridiculous. Took me multiple calls to get through to schedule a follow up exam as well. I finally recieved a call back AFTER Id finally had the re-examine. They are completely disorganized. I Just ordered a brand online I have to assume he meant and have my fingers crossed they work out because Im never going back to this store or doctor again. Id rather pay for a whole new exam somewhere else.
I love JC Penney optical. I always find really cute frames and they are friendly and got me a really nice discount. She said they always try to save people money. Good experience.
1 star because theyre under staffed and the optician is a Chatty Kathy. We came in earlier this week and got measured. Here to pick up the glasses and its taking a half hour. Im not impressed with her and her customer having a 30 minute chat to get 10 minutes business done. If youre trying to get out of here in a reasonable amount of time dont bother. Must not get paid on commission. Either that or really love their job. Not impressed.
I dont usually review businesses -- but these folks are the BEST. The Staff has always been honest, considerate, prompt, informative, reliable, and has the BEST PRICE on the BEST FRAMES! Just got my THIRD pair of glasses from them -- over six years --- and each one has been a favorite of mine. I have checked out other stores with larger inventory -- but they all look the same. JC Penney Optical has real selection, a variety -- and great designs. I cant begin to say how wonderful Dr. John Viega is: calm, funny, informative, and very thorough (despite a VERY busy Saturday afternoon). Takes care of the whole eye health (he is an Ophthalmologist). I was surprised at how well I was cared for. The wonderful women who assisted me with the glasses were folks Ill remember for a long time. Jamie picked out the best frames me in under ten minutes and gave me a whole new look that I love and would never have tried without her suggestions.Dont waste your time anywhere else. They are overlooked, being off near the service entrance of Penneys in the Capitol Mall. Worth Finding!
I stopped by to have them fit my glasses for me. They were very polite and worked quickly to have my glasses ready!
New doctor every year, rude people and no one knows anything. Horrible place!! Nothing but issue and issue.
