Great selection of coffee varietals and coffee drinks. Great breakfast sandwiches and pastries! Friendly, accommodating, and attentive staff!
Coffee is old fashioned drip coffee and tastes amazing! They have specialty coffee as well with espresso and iced. If not a coffee drinker they have a nice selection of teas both hot and iced. The atmosphere was quiet although a little crowded because it was a Saturday.
They definitely practiced social distancing. The inside seating was unavailable and there were limited customers in line. Felt totally safe during Covid. Not many drink or food options available--were there more before? Ordered the hot chocolate & wasnt sure what to expect. Next time, Ill ask for some more creamer or something to sweeten it up a bit bc it was pretty bitter.
I was trying to find a place to get a mocha. Like in the name. Philz just has coffee. Plan accordingly and dont make the same mistake I did. Very humbling experience 10/10
Great ambiance! Really friendly service. The lattes were pretty nice and the place was cutez
Phillz used to be a small awesome coffee shop that was different than say Starbucks.. now its just another corporate facade. Its like walking into your local mom and pop shop and finding out its now a target. Coffee is still coffee.. pastries are still pastries. But no reason to go there vs any other corporate shop.
Iconic Silicon Valley cafe chain that deserves a visit if youre in the area. I found their ordering system extremely bizarre - you first choose your drinks, then pay for it, dont seem to receive any kind of receipt, and then go back to the original place to wait for your drinks? But it works, and the drinks are fantastic enough to be worth it! I recommend their iced coffee menu, which never disappoints on warm Peninsula days!
Im just not on board with the whole business model.. I just paid $5 for a tall pour over.. Thats espresso machine prices for regular coffee.... nope
Philz is definitely my favorite weekend coffee shop! Its easy to put in an order online with the app, and the wait for your order isnt terribly long.
Always enjoy getting a coffee Philz and this place is pretty unique. The staff is super friendly as always and my tesoro Phils way was delicious. Its a great place to sit and read a book while you wait for your kid to ref a hockey game at the nearby rink. The music is just a little bit loud for my taste but otherwise a great place to get a coffee and read a book.
Love Philz for their speciality coffee flavors and distinct additions (mint, cardamom etc). Its coffee reimagined!Turkish for bold coffeePhilharmonic for medium with creamy flavorMint mojito is a must try...Love this place.
Great coffee .. my favorite is mocha resort, make sure you try this awesome taste
Because I am a walk up at Philz, if I want to have my favorite coffee in the world, I am forced to deal with grumpy ”Mia” at the cash register and wait for at least twenty minutes to receive my coffee. If I were Phil, this would not fly. This place is not worth the hassle.
I came here for the first time. I didn’t know the menu well but the staff kindly made my favorite coffee.
I always love philz, at this point Ive left 5 star reviews at like 5 of their locations, and I dont even like coffee... Great place to get work done!Update to add this photo + tip: if you somehow dont finish it and bring it home, a good way to know when a mobile order has been microwaved for long enough is if the label starts blackening its hot! (side note:if your microwave explodes please dont blame me)
I always order the Chai. I enjoy it alot.Wish thier outside area was cleaner. No one cares to clean the windows even though they look kinda bad (inside and out).
It unexpectedly closed at 4😕
I really enjoy this philz. Its relaxing when i want to get some work in. Pre covid it was popular for students. The main work cafe competition here was blu bottle, but when youre in the mood for avocado toast and iced mint mojito. Theres no where else but philz. It can get crowded pre covid depending on the day however so if you want a more chill vibe go to the open courtyard of blu bottle
I bought a Turkish coffee and it was as good as what I had in Turkey. Great spot on Alma Street. Highly recommended!!
Tesora, Jacobs, Julies, Arabic.Mint mojitos are good too!
I always get the same thing. Iced mint mohito, so not a good resorce for all their other coffees but this one is perfect.
Great service and delicious drinks!
Philz Coffee was nice and perfee place.
As an European Ive certain expectations with coffee (sorry sounds arrogant, but original Italian style is THE real coffee). If you travel in the US and expect good coffee at every corner: youll be devastated! Americans let normally drip water through ground coffee without pressure, so theres never a very strong taste whatever bean and roast you try. Nevertheless @ Philz I had a very good coffee drink, was going back several times after discovering it. Friendly staff, modern and elegant interior. That was nice!
This location is busy, yet open, warm and friendly. The staff is helpful. They let me know about the spices on the avocado toast.
Great place to go and study for hours at a time. Lots of people study there so it helps you get in the mode. They have two large study tables and lots of bar type seating next to the window. I have the Philz iced tea every time. Philz iced tea is a strong tea with lots of real mint. I get it with 0 sugar
Strong coffee and tasty pastries.....
Delicious pour over coffees made to order. Its kind of slow because its all so individual, but really tasty. Kind of expensive, but theres a $1 discount if you bring your own cup (a larger coffee for the price of a small). Yum!
Great place.
Order ahead or dont bother, theyll tell you theres a 20 minute wait and take 35 to make a single coffee
As seen in Silicon Valley, this Philz Is the iconic peninsula Philz. You never know who youll run into! A good amount of seating and pretty fast internet! That staff is always pretty chill too!
Good coffee at a high price, a classic of Palo Alto. I tried The Philarmonic, which has cardamom and mint. Very balanced blend that hits all the spots on the palate, I recommend it a lot. The pastries are somewhat OK, but nothing out of this world. They have plenty of seating inside and outside, would come back.
A unique stop for any coffee lover. The individually prepared cups keep the standards high however I personally find them a little sweet for my taste. For best quality visit after a meal to cap things off.
Always a delight!!!
Its a typical nice Philz, plenty of space to catch up on some work. There are tons of outlets everywhere which is good if you plan on staying there a while. Staff is very nice!
Always on top of it! Great system during pandemic.
Best coffee on earth!
Very friendly and fast pace! I had never been before and there was a line out the door. I waited in line for only 5 minutes then they called me to the counter. I told the barista I had never been there before. She took a minute to kindly explain how it worked and made a suggestion for me after asking what I usually like. She did it in a friendly, but fast way and directed me to the cashier. After I paid she called out my order and let me try it first before I left in case I wanted to add anything sugar or milk which she happily adjusted. They are friendly and super fast. Know what theyre doing to serve as many customers as they can to help them move on about their day with their coffee. The coffee was good too. Nothing fancy, just simple brewed coffee with the different flavored roasts, no flavored syrups, only sugar and milk if desired.
The barista who served us was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave us a lot of information about Philz, and also recommended specific coffees for our tastes. In the end, she actually made us a couple of drinks to try, and said they were both on the house, which was very surprising and generous! We left a substantial tip, and will definitely come back!
Philz is my favorite coffee shop, and this location is one of my favorites. They have lots of comfortable seating (those couches tho), and lots of desk space. It can get very busy in the morning, so expect a line, or simply use their app to have your order ready when you get there!Edited 3.6.2018: Philz no longer uses Orderahead (RIP) but now uses Caviar for ordering for pickup and for delivery.Edited 4.22.2018: Philz now has their own app for ordering ahead. I highly recommend it. It’s nicer and easier to use than the other previous apps.
I can’t believe the quality of their coffee!!! I’ve had the Mojito iced coffee and the Turkish. They have a huge reputation around here and I see why. The customer service is amazing and the coffee is legitimately made... one cup at a time. I didn’t get her name but the nice lady with the English accent was so patient and she recommended which coffee to get. I’d come back here every day if I lived in the area.
Our favorite, go-to place for coffee every weekend! Super friendly service, and they always oblige to adjust the taste. Their snacks/ meals are great too for a quick bite.
Strong, quality coffee. Will energize you all day! And the costumer service is great!
It is very good I love their system and thr coffee is great!
My first time here. Loved the space, very cool and cozy. Will come back to work remotely. The coffee is top notch. Service was very good. Highly recommend for coffee connoisseurs.
I really used to love coming here, for some reason it has lost the warmth. Painted over the awesome mural, and staff doesnt seem too concerned with customer service. The barista who helped me refused to greet me...instead she kept saying What can I get? What can I get? ...Really? What happened to Good Morning!, Hello!, or even making eye contact with your guest?
Who needs fancy-Schmancy lattes when you can get a damn fine cup of drip-brew coffee? I was recently in the area and it was indeed refreshing to see a spot dedicated to making brew-to-order cups. Love the fact you get to select your beans and the staff then grind the beans and sweeten and milk-fortify your drink to your liking.
GoodMocha
Nice coffee nice tea, friendly staff and friendly people. Can’t go wrong when you need a nice cup of brew.Crowded most of the time, so this is not for those looking for a quiet coffee time.
I really appreciate the selection of roasts and I think they do a great job with their pour-overs. Its a local place thats been around for ages, and I imagine thats why their queueing system is so terrible. Once you get used to it, its not so bad.
Smooth, creamy coffee; it is so good! I love the mint mojito, philtered soul, tesora, gingersnap, and rose! Too many good options. Ive have a terrific bite of a pumpkin mochi bread before that I cant stop thinking about.
This was probably the best coffee Ive ever had. Starbucks cant hold a candle to it. Mind you I said coffee, not a dessert coffee drink.
Great place for coffee and cozy environment to get some studying or work done. It does get crowded so be aware of that. Would recommend the mint mojito!
Service and products are consistent with how they are made at any given time of day!
Absolutely love this coffee shop as they hand brew everything for you and customize it to your preferences. For example, you can ask for 1 or 2 stevia, almond milk, soy milk, other milks, or regular sugar. And the baristas are usually pretty friendly and love to have small talk. It’s a fun environment to be in and many tech folks visit this coffee shop frequently.
Line was confusing. Baristas were not organized so customers knew where their order was. Cash register was in a different location. I see now what youre trying to do but confusion happens to new customers. Coffee was pretty standard. Little texture or flavour like Illy in Europe or Hong Kong.
I love Philz coffee, great tasting smooth blends! I would give it 5 but theres always a line. It moves well but on average youll need 20 minutes (or more) to order coffee. Staff is always super friendly and attentive to your liking.
Blown away by the coffee quality and my new favorite breakfast item, their avocado toast. The baristas attention to detail and service is impressive. The ordering process is a little complicated and intimidating at first because of no signage or explanation - but its worth powering through. If you are ordering coffee and food, go through the coffee line first, then head to the payment counter and repeat your coffee order to the cashier and order food. Then head back to wait for your coffee, then go back to the cashier for your food. No need to look like an idiot like I did. Learn from my confusion and enjoy!!!
Philz... Amazing coffee. Out of the box selections. Drink coffee next to the founder of the next billion dollar start up... Likely spending their last $5 on a cup of coffee to just get the product out! Thanks Philz for fueling the valley.
Can be confusing your first time there, but dont worry! Theres a line forming from the south door for coffee. Wait for a barista to call the next person, then you can discuss what youre looking for. They are all knowledgeable so you dont have to bark out your order and get out of the way; just tell them what coffee you like! After ordering, head to the cashier line (which is also food line). The food line is near the east door and you can skip the coffee line if you only want food. They have pastries, bagels, avo toast, and other things that pair well with coffee.
Best coffee in the Bay area theres nothing much to add. The place however is always full of people but that doesnt stop the baristas from being extra nice to every customer. Of you havent you need to get the mojito coffee.
Philz makes my favorite iced mocha of any coffee place Ive tried. Its more chocolatey than most without being too sweet.
Great coffee. very nice staff. I like the process you order your coffee here. its always line here when I drive by that shows people are willing to wait in line to get their great coffee.
Let me tell you about the barista that helped me today. I dont know her name, but her favorite drink is a chai. She offered to make her version of it for my friend whos a big tea fan, actually both of us are, and she forever changed our lives. Who ever she is, she a real one. Be happy, treat yourself, live a little...all the things! Just go to philz.
Philz never disappoints and this location is no exception. It also has a lot more seating including a comfy leather couch! Same great Philz experience, with great seating and all of the amenities of University Ave, I cant think of anything missing!
Cool coffee shop with the friendliest staff. The coffee is tasty too. Great place to study and get work done
Favorite coffee shop in the country. Place becomes a bit of a Cheers - I walk in and everybody knows my name. Lines are long, whatever, thats what it takes to make each cup from scratch. Chill for hours, grab and go, doesnt matter. Just enjoy the coffee and come back for more.
Nice employees, but i dont like the coffee: no espresso drinks, overpriced, and always crammed with stanford students and tech bros
Always love Philz. Got the philtered soul (hazelnut flavored). Its so good!!! Also enjoy silken splendor. The baristas there are always so friendly, nice, and knowledgeable.
Everyone here is working on their next novel or startup. Decent coffee.
Overrated: Coffee was Okay. Crowds Made It Impossible to ChillOrdered a ginger snaps which was quite nice. Friend didnt enjoy his brew of the month and left it almost untouched. The place is teeming with people. I guess some people like the buzz and hence the reviews. Older people like me didnt appreciate the crowd quite as much.
First time at Philz....got to say they take their time to make a great cup of coffee. Service is great and they want to make sure you are satisfied with the coffee before you leave. All the customers and employees are in a good mood. Would chose Philz over Starbucks any day.
One of the more pricey cups of coffee youll have, but the quality to back it up. $4 for large. Pour over per cup style. I had a Dark, Aroma, I believe it was called. The baristas recommendation. Super personable team. Cool neighborhood vibe. Was hopping on a Saturday morning.
