Was looking for a new LBS and decided to try Thick Bikes. I took my road bike in for new tires and a derailleur cable.Technician was very knowledgeable; unassuming and courteous.I also talked with a salesperson regarding a Hybrid. He was also very knowledgeable, unassuming and courteous.Price for tires and cable was very reasonable!! I found my new LBS.
Very nice selection of bikes and accessories. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They even have their own parking lot while being in the South Side. I highly recommend this place!
Thick bikes goes the extra mile. I had shifting problems that was quickly fixed and found other dangerous braking problems that I wasn’t aware of. Thank you Paul for the no appointment one day fix. I was able to get my ride in too. This bike shop is first class Joe Morgano
I have bought 2 bikes, and had one replaced on warranty here over the last 7 years. I have also had all my service done here. I have upgraded my bikes with accessories that I’m picky about, including dynamo hubs with heads and tail lights. They’ve done great with sales and service of these items.I am always happy to support an independent local shop whenever I can. I am especially happy to do that with Thick. They are so great at what they do, and are very pleasant and helpful people. When asked about bicycle sales and service locally I always recommend Thick Bikes.
I took my bike in for a repair after my chain came off. The technician was able to diagnose the problem right away, fixed the chain and derailleur, and lubricated the shifting cable. The cost was affordable and my bike worked like new! I would definitely come back for any repairs and recommend them to anyone needing service in the Southside!
Thick Bikes is the best bike shop in Pittsburgh. We bought an Urban Arrow Family cargo bike, and Chris could not have been more helpful and knowledgable. I trust his expertise and honesty and I feel comfortable putting my kids on the bike because he and his staff do such a great job with bike maintenance. You get what you pay for with bikes, and Thick Bikes is the place you want for quality, safety, and expertise.
Had my mountain bike serviced and front suspension upgraded and these guys were awesome. Very responsive and helpful. No attitudes unlike some other bike shops around. My bike is riding like new, better in fact. The shop is well stocked with parts and bikes even now with parts being hard to get most places. I’ll be back to get some wheels, service and when it’s time for a new bike Can’t recommend them enough.
Amazing customer service! I just bought a brand new bike off this shop they put it together new in box within a couple of days! With this cities bike shortage I am thrilled to have this amazing bike and they gave me a free check-up and first free tune-up on this new bike! Kind & perfect service from this local shop. Will be my only bike shop needs store moving forward for sure. :)
Paul was fantastic. Quickly diagnosed and described the problem. Was unable to fix it (need vintage parts) but gave me some measurements and places to try for parts. Wish I lived in town, I’d love to come back! Clearly this shop doesn’t need more 5 star reviews, but our experience was so good I wanted to let them know 🙂
Great bike shop! Everything you could possibly need in the store section. Went there after getting two radpower bikes online (where you have to assemble the bike yourself) and went to thickbikes afterwards for them to make sure, I didnt, you know, assemble the bikes horribly and dangerously. Super reasonable prices.
The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. They’re always more than willing to help change the tires on my hand cycle and wheelchair. One time I needed a pump for high-pressure tires and they had a great recommendation. Highly recommended bike shop. Definitely check them out.
This is by far my favorite Bike shop in Pittsburgh. We all have our favorites but the staff and owner are amazing and always there to help. Their repairs and builds are amazing. If you need a new bike, a spruce up or a repair simple or overly complex, get over to bingham and let Thick get working on your bike. They are a local South Side business more than worthy of our support. I have been a customer for many years, and never once had to complain about anything. So I had to say something after so many years of just enjoying and admiring their work
I bought a bike from them last Fall and theyve been always been incredibly helpful and transparent with me when Ive come in with questions (and most recently a flat tire). They never try to upsell you and are clearly just very knowledgeable about bikes. Ill be coming here for years to come
Beware of getting service from this place. They gave me a $960 quote to do everything to my bike. They even had wrapping the handlebar tape along with replacing parts that did not need replaced. I got them to lower it to $160 after taking out most fluff that didnt need done. I dont trust people who try to take advantage of others. That is a sign to being a bad business in general. A hipster friendly vibe may just be a façade to shady practices underneath.
Great experience purchasing a new bike from Thick. I emailed them what I was looking for and luckily they had just received a new order of bikes from Giant and exactly the kind I wanted. I went in to check it out, took it on a spin and decided to purchase. Will definitely support this small business with my future accessory and bike needs!
Truly excellent service! Came in with some chain issues on a secondhand bike that was butchered by its previous owner. They fixed it and bike is running like new! Will be back again for any issues I have.
I cant thank Paul and Chris enough. I felt bad for calling as many times as I did trying to figure out parts that I needed thank you for that. I had to reschedule multiple times and they were very very easy to deal with all the way around thank you. I brought my bike in Saturday to get built around 9:30, bye 3:30 they had called and said it was done. Super fast bike looks phenomenal. Again thank you for all involved great job professionally done
Perfect service!! My bike looks great. Thick installed my basket and tuned her up nice. I gave it to them filthy and they even cleaned it. Really great service at a fair price
Second time we’ve purchased a bike at Thick Bikes, and again we found the folks here to be super patient, knowledgeable and friendly! I highly recommend them for all bike needs!!!
Bought 2 e bikes-one for me and one for my wife- and a suitable bike rack from this store. They have a wide range of Ebikes available with different manufacturers, prices, models, and sizes. Information on the in house stock is accurate and details about the bike from the manufacturer is provided -only a click away. The surrounding neighborhood is adequate for a short ride and includes a hill, cobblestone and smooth pavement for a test ride. In house technicians are skilled and quick with preparations and additions to the bicycles. Finally, Chris at the main desk was extremely helpful and knowledgable and provided this good experience.440 miles later-on the Specialized Vado ebike. The experience is thrilling. I am 70 years old now and cant jog anymore with some spinal stenosis issues. The bike has reenergized me to ride daily. Now I look forward to the uphills. It has an extra hill climbing gear than the Como version. The nicer Shimano gearing is excellent. The bike is mechanically perfect and needs no adjustments. The motor is very strong. I am enjoying the hilly farmland and suburban streets around here in western PA.
I took my bike to Thick for a tune up just over a week out from a 100 mile ride. Not only were they great to work with, they had my bike done in under a week. Highly recommend them and their services.
The team at Thick Bikes is very professional, friendly and patient. I purchased a Specialized Crossroads 3.0 and some accessories and they set the bike up for me and installed everything while we waited. Very happy with the experience and would recommend Thick Bikes for anyone looking to purchase a bike.
Every time I’m there, they treat me like family and I absolutely adore them.Southside and me would be very lost without my loves at Thick. Above and beyond doesn’t begin to accurately describe them.
Chris and the team at Thick Bikes continue to be wonderful… Professional set up on the new bike - Giant Escape Disc. The Light & Motion front and rear lights are a nice touch. Another happy family member! Thanks again!
I love it here. The extra time to teach about tools and the individualized attention to my specific bicking needs was everything. This is the best shop in town.
Awesome experience! Super friendly staff that helped get my bike fixed quickly. Pretty inexpensive too. Would definitely go back.
The staff at Thick Bikes is great. I purchase from them, and use them for service. The Sales Department is honest and helpful, without pressuring customers. The Service Department does excellent work. Every job is quoted in writing, with no ambiguity in price or time estimates. If you depend on your bike, you can depend on Thick Bikes.
There are 2 places I would trust in the Pittsburgh area to work on my bike and Thick is one of them. The service there is exceptional! The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable!
Took my bike in for a tune up and Thick Bikes really took care of it. They did a thorough evaluation of my bike and sent me a detailed quote before any work was performed. The repairs that they did were better than any bike shop I have ever taken my bike to before. My bike feels like a completely new bike. Rides like a dream! Will absolutely recommend and will be back for any future repairs. Thank you!
Both times I entered the store I was immediately assisted by a friendly employee or the owner himself. They went out of their way to provide good advice and see to my specific needs despite obviously being very busy. My new go-to for bike related items!
Love this store! Great selection, awesome staff...the place to go!
Chris at Thick is top notch 5 out of 5 stars! Him and his employees do not pressure sales. There is always a few options and a choice that the buyer makes, not the salesperson. Expert service as well. I’ve had wheels built, broken spokes fixed, twisted derailleurs fixed etc. Thick and Chris are community oriented as well hosting many types of rides. Want to try/learn to unicycle, Chris got you covered. The day I came to UNI he had about 20 different types of unicycles and some helmets to borrow at no charge! I have ridden the MS bike tour with Thick also and they raised thousands of dollars! Great shop, great service! Thanks Paul for fixing my derailleur!! Try other shops, but make sure you go to Thick. I bet you will be coming back to Thick!!
Chris and his crew were exceptional in getting me my Warbird. They were always up on the status of the delivery and kept me well informed. Upon picking it up, Chris made sure the bike was the correct size and a good fit for me. Shop has plenty of inventory as I could easily get bottle cages and bike accessories.
A very nice shop with helpful staff. They helped me with a box after finishing the GAP trail. Thanks guys for the help.
Chris and the folks at Thick Bike are down-to-earth, friendly, and helpful. I feel like they just want to get people out on bikes and they make it happen for all flavors—city cruisers, rail-to-trails set-ups, roadie and serious mountain rigs (my personal favorite!).These folks are among Pittsburgh’s finest!
I finally found a bike with an xxl frame and boy am I glad I found it here. The shop is very well stocked and maintained. The staff is very knowledgeable and were very quick to put my bike together and install all of my purchased accessories. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone considering a bike, I know that this will be the place I go to for my next bike purchase, upgrade, or maintenance.
Friendly and attentive. Dropped 2 mountain bikes off to have derailleurs adjusted and indexed. Dropped the bikes off at 1 and they got them back to me before 5 the same day. Will recommend them to anyone looking for professionalism at a reasonable price.
They were quick and efficient. Told me what to expect included when it would be completed and provide cost up front. Convenient hours and parking available. Staff was friendly and personable. I would highly recommend.
The staff I interacted with were great. Easy to talk to for someone looking to get back into cycling like myself. When they built my bike they realized one of the parts was bad, and had the manufacturer replace it. I really appreciate their attention to detail, and love my bike.
They were so good to my boys (9&10), took care of our needs & had the job done FAST!! wonderful service i’ll absolutely keep going for all our biking needs.
Like every crooked car mechanic I have dealt with, these guys originally give quotes for small work needed and then end up saying the bike needs 50% of what its worth in repairs. From all the other reviews it seems like it’s really easy to buy a bike from them but god help you if you need something fixed. If I didn’t need my bike fixed back back soon I would not have ponied up but it was a tough situation. These guys really only cater to people with higher end stuff and bone you with costs if you have a mid grade bike. The first time I walked in a couple months ago all the associate did was ridicule me and my bike with an extreme quote to match later which ended up being fixed by another place. Never coming back. I would rather drive to another shop around the city and lose the convenience of them being down the street from me.
Just took my bike here for the first time for some much needed work. I was estimated to receive a quote in 1 week and work done by 2-3 weeks. Work was done (and done well) in 3 days and staff was very pleasant to work with. Will definitely be back for future work. Thanks!
As always friendly and great customer service. I got what I needed without an issue. Thanks guys! 🤙
Excellent service and work done on my bike. Would highly recommend taking your bike here!
Bought a bike at the end of the pandemic, when bikes were difficult to find. I was able to view constantly updated inventory online and order by phone. Cool shop, knowledgeable staff. Will definitely go back.Driving and parking in the Southside can suck. But the store has a small lot on the front. It’s on a one way street. So if you use Waze, you’ll probably have to loop around.
This place is the real deal. I brought my bike in for an issue with broken spokes and needed a new wheel. They explained everything they were going to do, showed me a price (which was very fair) and had the work done the same day. The work was also done right and they even cleaned up the bike as well.
New to town and needed some maintenance on my bike. Called Thick bikes and bought it right in. Fast, expert service and friendly staff. I will be coming back and highly recommend them. Thanks.
The service was excellent. Jon P was pleasant knowledgeable, honest and fun. We laughed and laughed..And they did an amazing job on my bike. .thank you, and I will for sure return!DJ MorryLovebug 😄
I took my bike in with 40min left before closing time. They accepted me with smiles and jokes. They finished with 15min to spare. Enough cant be said about Paul & Co.
Excellent service and very helpful staff. Safety check was done very timely and was completed early.
Great service as usual! Ive taken them road, CX, and mountain bikes over the years, for everything from a tune up to a single speed conversion. They can do it all!
Super happy with my choice to go to Thick Bikes. The team was incredibly knowledgeable and patient in helping me pick out my first bike. Highly recommend!
Great experience buying a new bike. Knowledgeable staff. Excellent covid safety protocols. The store was incredibly easy to communicate with and even pay via text. Will definitely be a returning customer.
I ONLY trust Thick with my bikes. I have an older Cannondale friction shifter and they can be tricky-their team always does a great job, theyre always friendly, and they have a good selection of quality gear.
Excellent service! The front derailer on My bike needed adjustment, so I thought. I called Saturday morning to get it fixed and they were able to squeeze me in same day. They had to do a bit more work than I thought but it was still under $40 and I was able to make my Easter Day ride with the kids.Highly recommended for excellent customer service and great craftsmanship!
The staff was friendly and very helpful with the repair for my bike. They didn’t talk down to me (which happens a lot to women and mechanical problems), but clearly explained the options and recommendations for what my bike needed, taking time to understand my preferences and riding habits.
They fixed my brakes in 10 minutes and explained what they were doing while they did it. Reasonably priced and very helpful!
Top tier bunch of guys! They’ve taken care of me every time I’ve stopped in. Even once accommodated a short notice situation!
Great shop, Chris is really helpful and not pushy or in a hurry.
I highly recommend this shop. We’ve driven 3 hours to get here twice to buy new bikes. The shop is well equipped with parts, racks, alt bars, pedals, straps, fenders, and anything else you can think of. Chris is super knowledgeable, informative, and offered great recommendations to set up a bike for my eleven year old enjoy for a lifetime.
Great selection of bikes during this time of high demand. Chris was able to build a bike for me that I had been eyeing for a while. He also helped me pick bike accessories and had great knowledge! Highly recommend this place!
Thick bikes is a great place to buy, repair or supplement all your riding needs. I’ve been a repeat customer since 2013 and will keep coming back👍👍
What a great experience I had purchasing a frame from Thick bikes, they are one of a few shops that list their inventory. Super friendly staff and Chris gave me a recommendation for a lodge to stay at when riding the Allegheny Passage.
Top notch experience. Chris was so helpful with my husband and I. We both wanted to upgrade bikes and he answered all of our questions and made great suggestions, including great tips about what accessories were the best for each of our bikes. Excellent covid safety too. We both love our bikes and are very thankful for the knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff at Thick.
Great shop, fantastic sales and service experiences.
Thick Bikes is just great. I’ve been coming here for almost a decade and I’ve bought at least seven bikes here between those i’ve bought for myself and for my kids. The staff is knowledgeable and super pleasant to deal with, and they’ve got a great range of bikes for everybody. I really can’t say enough good things. Their service shop is top notch, too; I take my bikes there whenever they need work and they’ve always taken good care of me.
Everyone was very friendly & helpful at this bike shop. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to purchase a bike or in need of a bike repair.
I was in need of a bike rear rack for my ebike! I have been to 5 bike shops! They had some or one of the parts I needed! Stopped I to Thick meet at the door with a friendly staff and I left out with the rack and a smile! Thanks Thick✌🏾
I used to go to bigger, chain retailers for bikes, but once I moved to the southside and came to Thick, I will never go back to the old places. You get customized, 1 on 1 service and knowledge specifically to you and your needs. They stand by their work and warranty. I had a bearing go out on my back wheel, and they contacted the manufacture, got me a replacement for the back half of my bike, and replaced everything all for free. You can’t beat that kind of service!
Appreciate the knowledgeable assistance of the staff. Great selection of bikes and accessories. Very happy with the safety checks, new wheels and new brakes on my old bike. Great service, great communication. Won’t go anywhere else.
Went there to buy and replace an inner tube. Left because the quoted repair time was 2-3 hours. Manager who was idle, wheeled my bike to the door and watched as I left with a flat tire. Carried it back three blocks and put the inner tube on myself which took three minutes. Why couldn’t they have just offered to let me use an air pump (the only tool needed) or something. Lame!
Cant fault them. Always friendly and helpful. Nice selection of bikes, spares and accessories. Always gives honest assessment of any repairs and great pricing.
Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. By far the best bike shop we visited in Pittsburgh. Happy owner of a new bike!
In the time it took me to eat brunch down the street, these guys took care of some last minute repairs so that I could head out on the GAP and C&O trail. Thanks for the sticker! I added a picture of it on the National Mall.
The thick bike experience was excellent! They understood what I was looking for and found I needed.
I would give Thick Bikes more stars if I could. My experience there was nothing short of fantastic. I took my 1971 Nishiki 10-speed in for a total refurbishment (after it sat in the basement for decades). Within a short time, I picked up what amounts to a brand new bike. I cant say enough about the professionalism and the quality of the work.
Helped me pick out a new seat and put it on for me. Very friendly and knowledgeable
The staff and selection was second to none. It was a pleasure shopping at Thick Bikes. I recommend to anyone looking to purchase a bike or biking gear.
Great service on my first fat bike purchase! I love my Salsa Mukluk and am taking it out this weekend to a trail near me. Parking is limited due to COVID and only allowing one customer at a time. Only wish I had more time to browse the store when I was there - looks like they carry lots of great products/accessories! Thank you Thick Bikes!
Staff was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. I had repairs done on second hand children’s bikes. Workmanship is quality and I was able to pick up my bikes the next day. The shop was clean and the flow of business was managed with exemplary organization regarding COVID-19 protective guidelines.
They made me pay $180 for them to keep my scooter (primary transportation) a week, just for them to say they cannot replace the tire. They then patched it & it didnt even last 5 minutes of riding.
SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE. A friend took me to Thick since I was looking into buying a new bike. I learned SO MUCH about bicycles there. Adam helped me with picking a great one for my price point and fitted it for me specifically. There is so much that goes into having the right fit for a bike, and he showed/explained it to me in a way I could easily understand. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and they had a great selection! I am so pleased with my experience and bicycle I purchased there today!
I drove over 60 miles from Ohio to see and test ride a Gazelle as my research guided me toward the quality and options. Chris, the owner, explained the various features of the four Gazelle models in stock plus educated me about the European approach to ebikes. I fully intended to explore, but the ride of the bike and the various standard upgrades gave me cause to consider a purchase.Because of the world situation, the inventory is slim, and the Gazelle Easy Flow fit my needs as a 71 yo. Through my experience, it was even harder to find a bike rack. Well, Chris had a Swagmen and showed me the adapter to work with this bike without a top tube. He even assessed whether it would fit my wife’s ebike, which was not a Gazelle. I know this is long, but I wanted to detail my experiences to give credit to Chris and his crew as they fitted the rack to my hitch and loaded the bike so it was safely secured. Made the trek home safe and happy.
They always nice to me either ways and they have fix up my bike few years ago after the one of the fire depts. donate it to
The kind souls at Thick Bikes fixed up by Schwinn Fastback and it looks + rides beautifully. Super comprehensive tune up. Couldn’t be happier with the service. I’ll be back!
Took bike in for service. Fair price, delivered on time or earlier than promised. And every person there is super nice and even recognize you - even if you didn’t buy your bike there. Not sure you could want more from your local bike shop. I guess I should also comment on the process in a pandemic world - super safe, all precautions and protocols followed etc. and no touch payment was easy.
Thick bikes is always on point and provides excellent service with quality work.
I’ve purchased two bikes from Thick and had a great experience both times.
Thick Bikes rock. Great service all around. Thanks!
After my bike couldnt be repaired from biketek here in Pittsburgh, I brought my Evelo ebike here to thick bikes and within a few weeks my bike was better than new. Took care of everything on it, professional and comfortable place 👍
I took my bike in to get an estimate, they look at the bike and in a day or two they called to say there were many many issues. For the type of bike I had it was not worth spending the money. I suspected as much. For this evaluation they did not charge me anything. I would take my bike there to get fixed confident that they were not going to take advantage.
Amazing bikes, fantastic service! Highly recommend this South Side jewel. Thick bikes is allowing us to go for a ride and take a break from the pandemic. We are also lucky to have so many wonderful, accessible well-maintained trails
Very professional. Wide variety of bikes and bike stuff. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.
Staff is frendly..but a total ripoff for ebike owners....was told $12 to change an inner tube ..they said since it was an e bike itll be a lil more........ being that its An e bike..i specifically said that i had a rear hub motor ..i get to the shop and they said itd cost 50$ to change it since it was a rear hub .i even had my own inner tube..so reluctantly i let them do the work..i got my e bike back now the disk break is bent to hell..ill informed staff that will have u wanting to go elsewhere..i love Pittsburgh and the smaller stores that make up this great city..but i will not ever return there for any work done to my bike....and i hate to leave such a bad review..because that kinda stuff hurts businesses..but in this case..id advise to go to bear dog bikes on the north side for ur e bike innertube changes..itll cost ya 10 bucks with a rear hub motor....
We were shopping for an ebike and had only basic knowledge of ebikes. The guys at Thick were generous with their time and gave us lots of information to help with our purchase. We had visited oher shops but these guys were the best. After we had purchased rhe bike we needed a rack for the car, they kept the bike and spent time sorting out the best one for my bike. My bike has a very low step over so it needed a bit of time to see which was the best.I would thoroughly recommend Thick bikes. Thanks Chris and gang
Excellence is the word to describe this guys. Clear quotes and super fast fixing on my bike. Fair price professional work.Definitely will take my bike for tune up and fixings at Thick Bikes again.
