Always professional and very helpful/knowledge staff
Truely helpfully guys ready to help any way they can
Lots of HAM radio gear. Lots of room and very friendly staff.
After many years I finally decided it was time to order an amplifier. Knowing that the Ameritron amps were showing out of stock I still chose to order from HRO instead of directly from MFJ.. I filled out my order for the ALS-500MR, a 75 amp MFJ power supply, the MFJ-994B tuner and a couple other items. Just as I submitted my order I noticed that this store sowed having the amp in stock but a little later they were out of stock again. Seems these folks filled my order immediately then shipped it all UPS. Ive ordered a few items since the Plano store has been open and the service has always been absolutely great. 5 Stars isnt really enough of a rating for how great these folks are. Thanks to the crew in Plano.
Fare prices and good stock level.
These guys are awesome. One phone call and day later the products arrived. They are extremely helpful. Thanks Plano team!
Very helpful and knowledgeable!! Great place😊
I had the best experience Saturday with Dee. I came in to get a new hand held radio. He helped me find the right one and a fantastic antenna. He answered all of my questions and gave me a print out to program the radio. The new radio was able to hit the repeaters better than the old one that has a good mag mount antenna. I feel your customers cannot go wrong talking to Dee or any of your other knowledgeable Hams.
Some of the more and most intelligent RF minds this side of the tear sheet line, aka unclassified, uncontrolled technical expertise.
Still requiring masks! Business must be good they lost a $1000 sale.
Great friendly people, with the parts you need.
Very helpful staff! Lots of inventory, they always have what you need.
Don’t waste your time here ! Bad customer service from the manager Dee Miller. A simple question for antenna splitter Mr. Miller quickly replied no before I even finished asking the question. I not the expert on this so I was hoping for some help but I didn’t have all the information for Mr. Miller so he was annoyed. He was so rude he was smiling to tell me come again!!
Drove all the way from Fort Worth. Great customer service.
It is a great thing to have a Ham Radio store of his quality in our area. It is over an hour away but worth it. Great prices and staff. I purchased my first HF radio (Yaesu 101D) and love it. Very happy with my selection. The staff helped me understand the features and mad it a good experience. They are my first stop when looking for gear.
I arrived yesterday to the store where antennaed vehicles littered the parking lot to buy a FT-991A cash, but you guessed it, NO SALE! I was greeted by a guy whom I saw through the window at the register shaking his head. Get a General license they said, it will be fun they said, but first you need a radio and a welcoming, helpful staff to make Amateur radio continue to be something people want to do! Good Luck, Right?
Nice store. Well stocked with ham radio goodies. Found an antenna I was looking for.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Awesome inventory and about average on pricing. Of course everything they have there can be bought online but nothing beats standing there holding and looking at these items in your hand. Several of the radios are even set up with power supplies and antennas so you can try them out if you want. This is a brick-and-mortar I hope it stays open for generations.
My recent dealings with HRO Plano were all 5 Star! From my initial phone conversations with Eddie to several lengthy email and phone conversations with Robert I was treated with respect and professionalism. Eddie helped me decide on the rig that would meet my requirements. He never pushed me in a particular direction. He patiently answered my numerous questions. When I did decide, he met me outride the store, picked up my trade-in, and brought the new rig and power supply to my trunk. When I had some issues with set-up, Robert communicated with me via email and then had extended phone conversations with me on his own time. Robert helped me over some hurdles and got me up and running. As I told Robert, You were an Elmer to a 78 year old ham who wanted to learn new things! Would I recommend HRO? With hams like Eddie and Robert serving the public, I would say a resounding, Yes.
Very helpfull people
I walked in with a list of items to buy and was immediately told I wasnt welcome without a mask.I will take my business elsewhere from this point forward.
I’ve been shopping at ham radio outlet for a year or so. I stopped by once before I got my ham radio license and they still treated me awesome. They showed me every radio I wanted to see and made recommendations. Allowed me to browse and answered many of my questions. I later purchased a vx-6r during covid while the store was closed. They processed my order and met me at the door to give me my product. Yesterday I picked up a d74a. I ordered the product an hour before closing and called up there to see on the off chance if I could pick it up the same day. (Remember an hour before closing) Jason told me to head down there and they would push my order through so I didn’t have to wait until Monday. I have continuously had awesome customer service. Thank y’all!Robert MiksitsKI5JRX
Rude. Maybe because I am a woman. Told me they dont do car radios when I repeated it was a HAM AMATEUR radio and I dont know what I need to get with the radio I have. He just told me to look it up. Thats it. He was a real jerk.
Had what I needed fir m ham station. Helpful advice!
One of the few remaining brick and mortar radio stores in the country. Im privileged to live locally. Service is always excellent. They stock all of the major brands and several of the smaller ones. They always have accessories ready to go to get you on the air as well.
Great place to visit for us HAM nerds.
Quick service and knowledgable staff.
Great people, really helped with a lot of questions.
Full of Awesome employees
Update: The store is now open for limited capacity!! I was able to go in for the first time in 2020 (for me). I was also able to get everything I needed and then some! Hello super small diameter antenna wire for a QRP EFHW!!Great staff as always, helpful and knowledgeable. Please visit them and keep them open. HRO is much more critically essential than most people think. Lets not loose them to the likes of Amazon. In an emergency, HRO will be needed for critical communication, parts and knowledge. Amazon wont be there for the people... HRO will.Closed to IN STORE customer due to Cov-19. You cannot enter the store at this location which is a shame. Despite that, this is easily a 5 star store. The company has a laundry list of HIGH quality parts to feed every HAMs need, and then some. Support your locals as its important that they exist in an emergency either personal or public. Keep Em Open!
Customer service is excellent and products and prices are great! Dee Miller worked with me to correct an issue not of their making. I highly recommend giving them your business. You wont be disappointed!
I was greatly disappointed after showing up to purchase another 7300, antenna, coax, tuner, and hiel mic with cash. I was ignored through the window with a sign stating closed to walk in customers. Being that everything else is open, I didnt think to very online if they were open because again, EVERYTHING ELSE IS OPEN!!! so I drove over an hour to get there with mask ready to use but was denied the opertunaty to browse and purchase. I have previously and exclusively spent many many many thousands of $$ at HRO(you know what I spent there!! Its all in your system) for big ticket items but will now put high consideration toward using other sources for futureacquisition.
I cant believe that they referred me to google! I call to buy equipment and money isnt an issue and the guy Robert tells me to get on google and do research instead of helping me figure out what I need and sell it to you. I guess no one should waist you time but rather get on google and do research??
Plan to purchase car side pick up. Have always heard great things about this store. Unlike their local competitor, who are rude and antagonistic.
I came here looking for a gift with very little knowledge of ham radios. Larry was extremely helpful and patient with me answering all my questions and helped me pick out the right option for me. The staff are very professional and polite and I highly recommend this place. I will definitely be back as we grow into bigger and better radios.
Awesome inventory. Personalized service. Very knowledgeable staff. One of the rare bastion of Brick and Mortar excellence.
Excellent section of products. Robert and Dee are very knowledgeable about the selection; and will help in anyway possible. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for amateur radio supplies!!!
Wish they has a place in San Antonio, is the only downfall.
I was on a business trip to the DFW area and have been planning to make a stop in the store for a few months. I got licensed a few months ago and have no ham radio stores near me so I am stuck with clicking on the Internet. I wanted to get a dual band mobile unit for my truck and had it narrowed to two different units. I had lots of facts but really wanted to see them in person, hence why I waited to go to the store. The salesman was helpful but not nearly as much as I had hoped. As far as the radio went, I actually knew more about it than he did. When trying to select the proper antenna and mount, I left with more questions but he did give me some good advice on that. Overall, it was a good experience but not quite what I had expected. I’m thankful for their help.
Great place with an abundance of knowledge. Very helpful even for inexperienced people walking in off the street. Larry Yates had been very patient with me every trip to his store.
Good stuff
Super nice staff, helpful and knowledgeable.
Great place to do business with. Ordered a Antenna Analyzer I thought Id lost in Harvey after searching for over a month, then found it the morning after I ordered it. Very friendly service and quick response. They are first on my list for Ham equipment.
Everyone in the store is so friendly except Eddy. Every time I go into the store I pray that hes not working. He has an ego bigger than Texas and thinks everything he says is fact. He always recommends the most expensive things when someone like Robert (Best guy there) will find something cheap that works even better! Plus, when you call the store and eddy picks up, he leaves you on hold for up to 10 minutes without any explanation!!!!! Overall this place is great, but eddy needs to go Srsly.
Had a problem, they resolved it fairly.
The staff there was very helpful and knowledgeable. I will definitely come back here. If you are looking for a ham radio, I would recommend you come here.
Glad HRO is now in Texas. Two of my favorite Plano sales reps are Robert and Rick. Both know the hobby inside out and their recommendations are good as gold!!! Plan on spending some time in the store as its well stocked with the latest amateur radio technology from radios to parts, antennas, coax, test equipment, whatever your station needs... 73
Ah yes. The ham radio operators candy store. Excellent service, free coffee. Dont bring any credit cards with you... Or youll be tempted to get something. Seriously though, HRO has always been friendly and prompt to me. If they dont have it in store they will ship it to you for free. Have bought all of my new equipment from them.
Excellent place for Amateur Radio toys. The staff was great even though they were very busy.
Love this place.
Always happy to drop in at HRO. The have helpful staff and stock most of the current items in play.
Great selection and very knowledgeable and friendly service. David was a great source of information.
Great store, ask for Robert when you go. I had called before I went to make sure they had the Gap Titan in stock, he had it ready waiting for me when I got there.
Good selection of products that you can try before you buy. Knowledgeable staff that are all active hams.
The people working in the store were very rude I will not spend any money in there anymore I can order stuff On line or go to Paris Texas
Great selection of radio gear, walk in and just get it of the shelf. Plus the biggest collection of ready to use radios Ive seen. Really helps when you want to pick between two radios to pit them against each other.
Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Good prices. Nationwide locations.
This is a great place to shop for amateur radio enthusiasts. They carry all of the major brands. The staff is very helpful and most if not all are actually hams. They have a good variety of antennas and mounts in stock.
Staff is very willing to help if you have any questions. Equipment set up to try out. Great place for someone looking to get into the hobby or a seasoned Elmer looking for supplies.
Knowledgeable and attention to service. Always have answers for what Im looking for.
Helpful staff, good prices. Helped me pick out all the right parts.
Came in to pick up a Antenna Wire for my Flight Aware Raspberry PI (1090 Mhz). Staff was very knowledgeable. I was able to get a 30 foot cable for $ 30, took it home, works great, I can see 100s of airplanes now on my ADS-B receiver. I highly recommend this business for anything to do with radios, scanners, Ham, etc.
These people are some of the nicest people I have ever come across. It reminds me of places (non radio related) I used to frequent with my dad as a kid. Just like those places, I never feel out of place or like I am bothering them. They also know their stuff, they are ham radio operators too, and have a lot of experience. The prices are great, the customer service is great, and the people are great. One cannot ask for more.I like this place so much so, it is worth the 70 mile drive, through traffic, to see them.
Always helpful folks.
Make the trip once a year to go to the radio shop. Its about 250 miles from me, but its worth it. Eddie sold me my first radio when I first got my license and made it worth the trip for us. Thanks to Eddie and the whole crew. Ill be back for some more gear when I get the chance.
Its like a hardware store, hard to leave, too many great buys.
Disappointing. As a newly licensed person I was hoping for some advice on what to buy to get started. Not at all helpful and I just ended up walking out. Wont be coming here again.I wonder why people say ham radio is dying?
Great people with lots of knowledge and patience. Great customer service. I will definitely shop here again.
Awesome place. I dont do much with ham radio but they had the parts I needed for what I do. Very informative.
Anything is better than Texas Towers, and Im pretty sure thats the competition that Cecil is speaking about . You are correct in their attitude toward customers. I stopped buying from them about 6 years ago, and have shopped Ham Radio Outlet ever since! I cant tell you how happy I am theres a new option in town!So stoked to have them locally now! Fair price, and great support! I have a feeling that TT will be closing their doors very soon, as they should be. Great to have friendly faces, and people that are enthusiastic about Amateur Radio, and dont have the Elitist air about them.
If you want it in ham radio they got it or will get it
Great service from a great team! Eddy you are the best!
I first ordered the FT-4X and discovered it really wasnt the HT I wanted. I called HRO and got the refund procedure and ordered the more expensive but what I really wanted, the fantastic FT-70DR. The return process was simple and FAST. The only slight problem is they forgot to include the rapid charger, and Im sure theyll take care of it and cover the shipping since it was in the order and just not sent. Ill give them a call tomorrow.Another NICE feature is everything shipped from the Plano, TX store gets to Austin, TX the next business day without having to pay for next day shipping. I do have to pay Texas sales tax, since they do have a store in the state. I plan to take a trip and visit the store sometime. Sounds like a nice place to visit. Ill buy more from HRO after I upgrade to General.
Salesperson was very knowledgeable. The prices for most items are listed on a tv instead of the individual item price tag.HRO literature states they are the lowest around. Browsing online seems to confirm this. Prices were about 10 dollars lower than I could find online through a major online retailer.
Buy over the phone excellent service and everything dispatched same day delivered the next. Best prices everything you need for over the phone service.. Highly recommend !! K5NOV Oklahoma
Love my new radio cant wait to make home
Nice place. Across the road from Frys electronics
The people here are nice and helpful. Reasonable inventory. No issues.
Great selection of ham radio and general electronics. Great people who are knowledgeable.
Large selection of ham radio equipment and accessories.Knowledgeable staff.
Robert Evans (WW9W), is Senior Sales person for HRO. Robert has the ability to not only sell the product but provide in depth consultation. Highly technical, and has the ability to metrically quantify the various parameters in Transceivers, antennas, amplifiers, rotors, cables and host of other ham equipment, which gives the Ham operator (Buyer), to make a solid decision (Rather than just emotional sale!)Robert loves his job, and the hobby, he is an outstanding individual, with second to none in integrity and will not sell unless it fits your needs..Tom Wright, NN2X
Great place. Staff is so friendly and ready to help. Great to be there..73
Great service, amazing staff and a very easy place to spend those hard earned dollars on Ham Gear!
Excellent ! Great Selection, knowledgeable staff.
Just an old ham radio kid in the candy store! Always find something that I “need“... lol
Great selection. Knowledgeable sales personnel. Friendly and helpful from the moment you walk in the door.
I an from CA where the HRO would probably get 2 stars because the counter people always seem grumpy. The folks at Plano HRO are friendly and knowledgeable. One of the things I have always like about ham radio is talking to other hams to figure out what equipment and antennas they use. The folks here love to talk ham talk and are willing to go out of their way to help solve a project problem.
Very helpful and friendly staff. He helped me find what I was looking for.
.... Great !!! Nice store, well lit, stocked and personnel very friendly (after all - they ARE Hams ) So glad to have local competition that tries to help and not give the impression you are an imposition on their time. Cant wait to see the antennas go up for the different radio displays so receiver comparison can be made..... Great setup of Transceivers and associated gear. And, if they dont have it, 1) it aint worth having..... 2) they can get it for you if you desire 3) no more worries about shipping damage on delicate gear........ Welcome to Texas HRO !!!! About time you got here ..... nq3c...
Very helpful. I was like a kid in a candy store
If you are a ham radio fan, good place to go. The sellers are patient. Good fellas.
Super helpful staff that is proud of their hobby! I come back every three weeks, usually. Sure beats buying online!
Fabulous customer service, knowledgeable folks. Ordered an ATR-30 from these guys and they price-matched lowest price I found on internet. Shipped to us overnight via UPS (free) and we received it day after ordering. You just cant ask for more. Thank you so much Robert and Eddy!
We felt like the person helping us really didnt have the time for us. He got our order wrong and we had to re-contact him to correct it.
Dee was great help answered most of my question. Felt no pressure to buy.
