Great place to work!!I love working at the old IGA aka Eastside Market Place is where my grandmother used to so her shopping with me. We live like few blocks from it back in the 90’s. Best place to work!!! We are very friendly workers!!
Used to be much nicer when it was an independent small grocery store. Now its Stop & Shop without the brand displayed.
Nice place to shop if you are in the neighborhood and pleasant atomsphere for the family and for college students to do their daily shopping. 😊😊😊
Great variety of products, wonderful employees! I have never experienced bad service here.
Alright prices with good selection.
Dont be fooled like I was, this is Stop and Shop. Its like a tiny, poorly light, snooty Stop and Shop. The store was dark and poorly laid out and there were only two registers open. They did order student and faculty discounts, but otherwise the store was not great
I really like this market. Great selection of RI products. Nellies dark chocolate popcorn nuggets are the best.
Nice store, if you want kosher meat you better call ahead to make sure they have what your looking for. Also dont get caught trying what cold cuts where the Deli employee. Can see you they will tell you youre not allowed to because of Covid. We tried and she got on us for it. Than the zip lock bag broke asked for a new one as she took the meat out wrapped it it Saran wrap then put in the Ziploc bag so we couldnt take it out and nibble on it.
I love Eastside market. The best ever
Great market 👍 great selection of groceries, and a line of ethnic foods. Deli is great has everything. Nice meat department. Fish department. Nice salad bar, hot bar. Tables to sit at an eat. Coffee, pastry. Lottery tickets. Pay your utilities there. Very clean for the amount of traffic. Plenty of parking. Handicapped parking spots. Plus on a convenient bus route. Go check it out for yourself you wont be disappointed.. pleasant staff..
Loved their vegetarian options
The store is a little pricey but u got what u pay for. Good sales and good staff. Always a plus. The cashier was friendly and careful to follow guidelines. The products are always fresh and a different variety of veggies and meats. Good natural product selection. Fresh plants and flowers beautiful selection
This store has great fruits!
Good location, decent selection of items (though a bit more limited than a typical Stop&Shop).
The veggies wrap was excellent..
Immaculate neighborhood food store. Great selection of prepared foods; kosher and kosher style. Bakery carries their baked breads and that of local bakeries.Cakes are presented elegantly and staff wonderful.Owned by Stop and Shop, you can also buy their products.
6:15PM I went to Eastside Market today to pick up a few things to make for my friends 60th birthday. I was limited for time. I stood in front of the bakery for over 5 minutes waiting for someone to take my order. There was no one behind the counter but there were several employees working behind the deli counter right next to where I was. I walked over and asked for help and was told they were unable to help me. One of them explained that since Stop & Shop took over the market they were no longer to be cross-trained in departments and it was against regulations to assist me. I then asked several times if they could at least call for someone that could help me. Then, after time continues to pass and no one arrives, I ask for the manager. He eventually comes over and I explain that I have been waiting for over ten minutes now to purchase a cupcake from behind the counter. He did NOT apologize but instead responded with She is on her break. There was also mention of this being a union. I had to walk out because I was so disgusted. I am also in a union because of my profession. I work hard because I am dedicated to my practice. It is so gross to use union as justification to not care. Tom, the manager that I was told was working tonight, is why I will no longer be shopping at East Side Market or Stop & Shop.
This review is for Courtney...she is such a sweet girl. I am always happy when I am able to get her as my cashier and often, I try to go to her lane. She is awesome. Courtney is also a joy to be around! She is a valuable asset to the Eastside Marketplace experience.
Close to work good customer service
Very nice place but more expensive than other groceries, including stop and shop which owns it
Stores always clean and organized. Staff always friendly
Produce quality has been poor and prices across the board have been super high ever since the Stop and Shop acquisition.
Good place. However, theyre not great at packing bags properly. You dont put bread with bottles
Bring your checkbooks this is a very expensive place its owned by Stop & Shop what the prices at Stop & Shop or different than at the Eastside Marketplace however they have top quality products and thats why I go there so its not so much the price it is the quality of their food
Used to be a good store. Once stop and shop bought it it became pretty useless. Its a smaller poorer stocked stop and shop with only a couple of better items here and there.
I like the size of Eastside Marketplace. A smaller store makes running in for a few items much simpler.
Decent supermarket. Good selection of groceries. Some goods are more expensive than others though.
Good for groceries shopping
Produce is fresh and good but packed products are quite expensive for the same exact products in other stores like Walmart
Not as good as it was before Stop and Shop took over. They run out of odd stuff. Today they had NO ground cinnamon of any brand. Is there a run on cinnamon? I really miss the original ESM. Are they trying to kill off this location?
Front end workers are rude and meat department never has sale items and I’ve noticed they have all prepacked meats . I have tried the prepacked steaks and do not like them at all very fatty and tough.
When I Need Things, A Bus Stop Also
Its just giant aka stop&shop
Not that large ; prices varies ; no mutch options
Great location and parking. Close to Brown. Good mix of organic and regular food. Meat section excellent. Fresh produce. Nice staff.
Great place and people
You can get some delicious prepared foods here. Especially enjoy the mini pizzas.
Some people there are not nice at all.
Great grocery. Wide selection of local and specialty items, caters to gluten free and organic seeking shoppers. Prices were moderate - not the cheapest place to shop but plenty available at different price points.
I have decided not to shop any longer at Eastside Marketplace. The final nail in the coffin was an experience I had a couple of weeks ago, the third such experience in less than a month. I was overcharged at the deli counter. The advertised price (posted right in front of the product that I wanted) was three times less than what I was charged. When I brought this to the attention of the deli worker, another Deli worker popped in and just blasted me about how this wasnt her problem and that she would charge me whatever have been programmed into the computer. When I protested and said that I had to be charged whatever was advertised, she went on and on and said Im going to get the manager. I have to be honest I was absolutely dumbfounded that an employee would speak to a customer that way. I wasnt rude. I wasnt yelling. I turned to another worker and said What did she say? I heard her. It was just that I couldnt believe what I was experiencing and hearing coming out of this young womans mouth. She wasnt even the person who waited on me. The department manager came over and I spoke to her explaining the situation. She told the deli workers that yes, I needed to be charged whatever was advertised and if there was a mistake they would correct it in the computer so it wouldnt happen again. As I said this was the third time in less than a month that this overcharging happened. I wrote an email to the store manager, Mr. Johnson, and I have yet to hear back from him. Its been several weeks, so that tells me really all I need to know about Eastside Marketplace these days.Ive been shopping more and more at local stores. Yes they are pricier because theyre smaller and really cant afford to buy in the bulk quantities that big chain stores do. Id rather spend a little bit more and have a decent and pleasant shopping experience than put up with loudmouth, ill-trained staff. So, I am done with Eastside Marketplace. Daves, Whole Foods, Urban Greens Co-op on Cranston Street, even PriceRite all have better trained personnel. And thats where my money is going.
Used to be an independent market, with a great staff and a selection better than the chains. Since it has been purchased by stop and shop, all the products have been converted to stop and shop selections and the staff doesnt appear to care very much any longer. The better bet is to go a street over to whole foods which carries a better quality selection of products. I miss the old Eastside marketplace, however that ship has set sail.
Nice people. Great produce. Amazing cheeses!! Nice meats and seafood. Always a pleasure.
Great supermarket. I come here every Sunday for my weekly groceries.
Staff arent very personable and dont tend to talk or smile much, they very much seem highly reluctant to engage with customers but the store itself is clean and the prices are fine thanks to Stop & Shops buyout. Wide selection of quality foods and no real issues.
Clean & organized. Slightly pricey but fresh
Decent place to relax, and enjoy lunch. Some employees are professional. The buffet could be better with presentation. Overall 5 stars.
Always have my transaction here. Workers are good people. No complain
This market used to be a very good local market. Now that it has been purchase by Stop and Shop it has turned into a thinly masked corporate grocery store. Fortunately, the employees still evoke the East Side Market spirit, but lately I am finding much more of what I want and need at Whole Foods.
Very helpful had everything I needed
Everything we needed
Lots of items they no one else carries. Kosher like foods with a rabbi to certify some foods. Clean, helpful people, and a deli with hot and cold foods. Great salad bar!
Nice market with lots of ready to eat food. Nice food court where you can sit and eat there and choose from the great selection of food. Service is outstanding with excellent choice of fresh meat, fish etc. With all these extras expect to pay a lot more for all groceries. The convenience may be worth it but if you want to save money this is not for you.
Very sadly, the place has declined noticeably since being picked up by Stop and Shop. Gradually, the selection has changed as items are replaced with house brands from stop and shop (although only the logo is displayed, not the actual name.) Many of the same items as are found in a Normal Stop and Shop are here, but at higher prices. I have been happy to continue paying a premium over the last year for a good experience, but it seems now that they are trying to reduce costs on staffing. It had always been a pleasure to meet well-chosen, bright and engaged kids working there. This has really taken a dramatic turn very recently. Sadly, I may as well just use the Stop and Shop on Manton Ave, since it is now actually a better experience and with lower prices. Or perhaps Whole Foods when possible. This was once a great place with a real community vibe. I am sad to see it change like this.
Pretty good prices & selection, nice big parking lot. Owned by Stop & Shop?
Shopped here for years, now go out-of-town. There were 2 problems: Quality and training (lack of both). Hot prepared food was inconsistent, often unattractive. Ragged service, some of it rude, sub-par Stop and Shop brands, no alternatives. After avoiding the store for months, we went in Dec. 31 and a couple of days later--same old, same old. Melon cut in store is STILL sold under-ripe, except for a few blah bites. (We let the rest sit in the fridge briefly, where it promptly went bad, well before the sell-by date, Jan. 8.) You can tell ripe melon by scent and appearance, a fact apparently unknown at the market. And teens seem to be running things at the front of the store.Providence needs an alternative to Whole Foods, just not this one.
Not as good of a selection as before, no goose pate.
Not what is was. Very disappointed in the quality of many of the Natures Promise products. Cheap, as opposed to low cost. Tooth picks with splinters. The 3-pack organic lemons showing brown at the tip, clearly not as fresh as they should be.Lots and lots of plastic packaging (soon to be plastic waste) where maybe its not needed. Overall, significantly less quality than the IGA days.
East Side Market is a pretty good supermarket. They have a decent selection of modern, pricey items that appeal to the dietary restriction crowd... Im actually on the fence as to how I truly feel about this store. Ive been there scores of times over the past 10 years and yet nothing about it beckons me except for its convenience for me. Yet nothing turns me off either. Maybe its just that its a decent market and thats all. Obviously, thats just my 2¢ and take it for what its worth because I know that many people feel this is the best market in the city and area.
I am moving to a Zero-waste lifestyle and I am scouting stores that come up in my Google search.Pros:1. Bulk produce available.2. Free Reusable bag at checkout.Cons:1. Plastic produce bags only / paper produce bags not available2. Only Plastic Milk Gallons available. Not the best bulk store I came across.
Eastside Market is where I would take my son to do his shopping when he first got to Brown. This market has been the only store in the entire area I was able to find hand towels that had a Providence design. I love them and they go great in my ocean themed bathroom.Thats not all thats great about this market, Its always clean and has a fantastic display of fruits and veggies when you walk in. It might not be the biggest but they have a great variety of all sorts of things.
Good supermarket in Providence. It offers a great selection of products, both fresh and processed. It is also possible to find some international food (Italian, Mexican and Asian, among others).Good quality, great presentation and large stocks from a large range of brands.Staff in great, skillful and helpful.
Still okay but they should drop the pretense and call it what it is.....$top & $hop+
I really like the deli and prepared foods here. I wish they had one of these stores on the west side near Cranston.
Great store. All sorts of good food. Great deli, cheese selections, just enough organic foods to live off of and really good meat counter. Good line of Everything. My favorite grocery. Better prices than Whole foods.
I enjoyed my experience this afternoon at the Eastside Marketplace. The people that work there were very nice and went out of their way a couple of times to accommodate me. I highly recommend the Eastside Marketplace. It is Top Shelf.
Love this place!
Smaller selection than other stores in the area (besides that tiny Whole Foods), but good variety and great prepared foods/bakery. Meat quality pleasantly surprised me as well
One of the best places to get groceries in Providence.
Bags break all the time. Literally tear into shreds either carrying them out of car or even just out of cart. This has happened a dozen times and Ive only been shopping there for 6 months. They over pack very flimsy paper bags to save a penny. Today I put one thing in a bag and it ripped in the parking lot.I have to ask them to double bag everything every single time.
“This place is the best! The hot lunch is delicious (my son especially loves the wings!) and the staff there couldnt be nicer. All the food there is fresh and they carry quite a selection of different brands to chose from. The bakery is always yummy, and the staff there will listen intently to you and your suggestions. My favorite market! Definitely a three star, I would give it four starts if I could!”
Nice place to go shopping. Nice selection of organic foods, but unlike whole foods, you are not limited to only off brand natural selections. It can get busy during peak hours and the aisles are narrow, so they get jammed up easily.
Nice little market. Produce looked nice and fresh, bakery was good. Will go back when Im on the east side again
Nice neighborhood supermarket. The biggest issue is that I cant do my regular shopping here because it is much more expensive than the chain stores. Id definitely recommend the butcher shop here and the selection of specialty items is impressive.
Im from Exeter ri and Id travel to prov to shop here love this place lots of yummy stuff in this place
Great place! My friend threw his phone on the ground and broke it here! Right after breaking my other friends phone at a separate location! Very good store!
Excellent grocery store with great cheese selection, organic produce, bakery treats.
Just moved to town. Heard about it from many friends. What a nice surprise. This will be our go-to market.
Stopped in coming back from a doctors appointment. Just needed a few things. Very nice store and the employees and the cashier very pleasant
It is a bit overpriced and since it changed ownership has lost some of its charm. The produce is fresh and the cafeteria food choices are interesting however some of the product variety is low. This is a cheaper alternative than whole foods and is better quality than the providence stop and shop.
What a great, local grocery store! Theyve got everything you need. Organic or standard/conventional items that all come together to make it your one stop grocery shop. Very reasonable in their prices, the layout of the store is easy to get a hang of, excellent customer service. I will be making this my go-to store in the future
Great quality food selection, great prices and super friendly staff!
Excellent neighborhood supermarket featuring elegant home baked goods, unique and lean deli, hot foods ready to eat, quality meat and fish. Best place to purchase bagels, challah and ethnic foods; particularly for holidays.
I am so sad that this is now just a facade of a neighborhood store and is really a stop and shop. All the great boutique products are gone and the selection is disappointing. The service is fine and it is clean. But, it is over priced and missing the mark on being a worthy quick trip. The reduced prices, because of Amazon, at the Whole Foods up the street makes that a better shopping trip now. I can find better products for the same prices. So sad.
Good prices and good quality 👍
Found everything I wanted on flyer. And the one thing out, pork loin, employee got from back and honored sale price! Great service!
What a great selection of fresh produce!!! Deli choices are great! Can get something for everyone here plus organic or locally procured.
Nice little market on the Eastside of Providence in the college district.
This used to be jewel on Pitman Street is anything but shining. Goods that were reliably available...or available in a variety of sizes are GONE. Many quality cheeses...gone. And just try and find Orzo. But to my latest.Had 25 people for dinner on Saturday. The previously reliable meat counter only had packaged top round of lamb for my needs. The label said it was butterflied....but NO ONE had ever taken out the silver skin or the gristle.Inexcusable...these people know how to run a profitable market but have NO CLUE as to how to run a quality operation.So...that...will be that....
This place is super convenient to me, and I keep wanting it to be great, but it just isnt. Im always looking for something that they dont have in stock, is less expensive elsewhere, or because of the layout, I just cant find. Its too bad, but makes me hop in the car to drive across the bridge to shop instead of staying on my bike and in town.
Not the best prices, but its right around the corner and they usually have what I need. Place is clean and organized. Nice staff.
I cannot praise them enough!!! Ordered my son’s 6th birthday cake from their bakery dept. A difficult and detailed cartoon was hand drawn by Donna the cake decorator and came out IMPECCABLE!!! It tasted just as good! So many compliments and questions of where the cake was from by numerous guests. I’ve ordered birthday cakes from “the best” cake shops in RI and none have been this affordable, tasty and perfectly decorated as this one. Thank you Donna! We will be back! (With an easier theme I promise, lol)
Unfortunately there has been a steady decline in quality, cleanliness and customer service in the store since Stop & Shop became its owner.
East Side has become my go to place. It carries many of the brands I normally buy at Whole Foods, local produce when available, great bread selection, organics plus the basics that are too expensive to buy from Whole Foods such as toilet paper, sodas, etc. The meat and fish selection is decent but not great. Prepared foods tend to be heavy and old fashioned.
The staff at Eastside Market have always been really helpful, and they stay open an hour longer than whole foods - a definite plus - especially as a business owner who cant always get there earlier, when I would prefer to !! I dont agree that their produce is overpriced: no more so than Whole Foods, and I have often found that they will carry an item the other store doesnt! They dont shoo you out if you get there at the last minute: infact the manager and another colleague went out of their way to help me find my misplaced car keys one night right at closing time!! All the best for 2015 to all who work there!!
Good experience. I just forget to see the one way arrows on the floor.
On mothers day they had flowers where as stop and shop and shaws had none or anyone in flower dept. Outstanding job. I work two jobs and grateful for the service they provided.
Prices on some things are a little high but it’s a very nice grocery store.
Nicely decorated. Well organized. Knowledgeable, cheerful staff members. Great selection. Helpful loyalty program.
