WARNING: LONG POSTFor the major part of my teenage to adult life, I have dealt with really bad forehead acne. I’ve always been so self conscious that I never felt comfortable wearing makeup because it didn’t cover anything- it just made it more obvious I had an issue. For the last 4 months I have been seeing a dermatologist and been getting professionally treated. My acne has cleared up drastically and recently made me confident enough to wear makeup again. I’m a minimal makeup girl, so all I need is a little powder foundation and mascara, and I’m good to go.I walked into Merle Norman today with that confidence in hand, knowing what I wanted and being excited to wear makeup since it’s been over a year now. I was greeted by a worker and told her I was looking for foundation and that it’s been over a year since I wore makeup bc I was getting my acne treated. Immediately I was told by her that I needed to get my acne under control before I consider wearing makeup. She immediately looked at my skin and told me everything that was wrong with it. She told me that I have oily skin (I have dry skin. It was just 90 degrees out and I had a little perspiration on my forehead.) She started suggesting skin care products and told me the ones I’m currently using (that both my dermatologist and skin care esthetician recommended-and that have been DRASTICALLY clearing up my skin) were damaging my skin. She said that the last thing I needed was foundation and told me that “If I were you, I’d cover up my forehead.” (Almost making me burst into tears because of how rude she was and embarrassed she made me feel. She then told me all I needed was to fill in my eyebrows and trim them because they looked rough and throw on some lipstick and I’d be good. She told me she could sell me a “$50 thing of foundation that will clog [my] pores and make [my] acne situation worse,” but she was just expressing her opinion. Not knowing anything about me or my history, or how long I’ve struggled with my face, she started throwing unfounded recommendations that conflicted with the professional help I’ve had recently that has greatly improved my skin, and instead made me feel self conscious by telling me what I need to do to look pretty. Instead of getting the foundation I wanted (that I honestly would wear on rare occasions), I left almost in tears and feeling disgusting. It has taken years for me to start feeling confident and I live an hour away from Merle Norman, and set a day aside to drive up and get this foundation that I’ve been too self conscious to get for so long now. I am so scarred by this experience and will be taking my services elsewhere. I had a pleasant encounter with this company a few years ago when I was in high school (and my acne was bad) and today just put a sour taste in my mouth. I am not impressed and highly recommend avoiding this location.IN ADDITION:I am insanely embarrassed that I have to go to this length to express my point, but as you can see in the photos I’ve added, you can see the progress and clearing of acne I’ve had- making me bewildered that she would say my acne was bad when she doesn’t know me or my history. I knew what I wanted today, and I’ve been taking care of my skin, but instead she acted like she was my doctor and pushed me away from purchasing anything.

I recently traveled to California and was only able to carry a backpack. I got in a pinch with the little supply I had of my Merle Norman products. I went to the Merle Norman store in Rocklin, and the owner totally took care of me. She even gave me a free gift. I felt so blessed! Thank you!
