The owner is Austin and he was very sweet and Helpful. Austin even let me know that in a few months I may need to replace my Breaks but said the are still in decent shape. I appreciated the fact that they did not pressure me it to fixing that too. Honesty is everything to me and because of his customer service, honesty and the fact that my car feels brand new.. and the AC has never worked better for now on I will only go to this this shop. I have been ripped off by jerks in the past. I feel really good about recommending made in Japan to others.

Fantastic service! This was the third time I’ve had car repairs done at this shop, with 3 different cars. Each experience has been very professional and completely to my satisfaction. Made In Japan has successfully serviced my 2000 Acura for 20 years and it still runs like new. I had to bring it to Niello Acura however, because it was recalled for a possible defective airbag. The airbag situation was fine but they sent me a text saying that my car needed about $2,000 in repairs immediately! I was supposed to tap on accept or not. I did not and brought it over to Made in Japan to check everything over. They said that nothing was needed except if I wanted a new battery that might not be a bad idea. Luckily I avoided the scare tactics of Niello Acura but I wonder how many others are taken advantage of. Made In Japan has always been there for this car and my previous Camry and I really appreciate and recommend them to everyone I know!

I came here for a pre-purchase inspection on a used Hyundai Sonata I was buying. The service manager Steffan was very helpful and the technician did a thorough inspection. They provided a very detailed digital report, complete with pictures of all points of the inspection. Steffan gladly answered all my questions and I left knowing that the car had been thoroughly checked out and I could purchase with confidence. I would definitely come back here for service if I lived closer.

Took my 2007 forester here for a Check engine light problem that nobody seemed to be able to figure out. The Roseville subaru dealership originally quoted me a thousand dollars for a throttle body replacement that I simply thought did not need to be done. Brought it in for a second opinion and it turned out to be a completely different problem. While the check engine light problem was more expensive than I anticipated, these guys saved me a thousand dollars from being spent at the dealership that wouldn’t have even solved the problem. Turns out I had an evap leak from the fuel cut off valve. I will absolutely be brining my vehicle back here for all its maintenance. Thanks Stephan!

We were buying a car from out of state and I was very nervous about any potential pitfalls with the vehicle. We had the dealer bring it in and we paid for a used car diagnostic. Their used car inspection was phenomenal! So detailed, pictures included, and extra phone calls were answered right away. We were never rushed or pressured. They made 100% sure we had all our questions answered. I’m not the easiest customer and I have a lot of worries but I feel so secure at this point. There was a potential $700 expense needed to get this used car up and running. Turns out it was a simple fix! This company was so honest and ethical! We didn’t have to pay for any additional service. (and if we did their prices are completely reasonable) Another company could’ve easily tried to take us for $700-$1100 worth of unnecessary repairs. These are kind, honest people! What a GREAT company!

2019-Ive been bringing our vehicles here for years. It was the Tacomas turn for service and the team was top-notch, as usual. My wife was driving our 4-Runner to pick me up and a problem came up. Steffan quickly diagnosed it at the same time and gave us advice on how best to deal with it.2020-By the time for next routine Tacoma service I had noticed a problem with braking system. The team performed the routine maintenance. They inspected the brakes and found no obvious problems. They were honest RE the brakes: go to the nearby Toyota dealer because this particular model has a special (expensive) system and there could be a recall or service bulletin that would save me money. Honesty and saving $s is always very much appreciated!

Update from latest service (10/26/20) - The guys took great care of my truck again - fixing a burst spark plug wire (replacing all components) but also found a leaking valve cover from a previous service when I had gaskets replaced and instead of saying I had a leak and charge me to fix it (like many other shops would do), they called out that it was under warranty from the previous service and fixed it at no charge. The honesty and integrity of Made in Japan staff (especially Stefan) in Roseville is why we continue to bring our vehicles in without question.—From the very first interaction with Stephan I could tell I was dealing with a professional and reputable business culture. I came in saying I think I need all my oil gaskets replaced (as I want to keep the engine on my 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4WD in pristine functioning order - last model with that engine and very sought after - I get asked 3-4 times a month by strangers if I would sell — never!!). A typical shop would try to take advantage of the consumer and say “okay let’s do it.” But Made in Japan is different and they wanted to make sure I was only getting done what was absolutely necessary so he recommended a service to steam clean the engine and run a UV dye through the oil to then see where the leaks really were. Turns out I only need a couple of the gaskets replaced (cost savings). The other awesome service that was included was a full inspection (inside and out) of all major components with assessment, recommendation, and PICTURES! I could see exactly what they were recommending and why (one case was a bulging, cracking radiator hose). The recommendations are color coded green for good, yellow for something to keep an eye on for later, and red for more immediate safety concerns (vehicle, passenger, and environment), as well as, the downstream costs of repair if something was to go wrong on a component in need of attention. The complete analysis was emailed and texted to me timely and made the discussion with Stephan way easier and straightforward. I appreciated the thorough diagnosis so much (and love my truck) so I just had everything on the list done for a very competitive price. So impressed that I had my daughter bring in her 98 4Runner for the same treatment. And that is a major compliment because the only thing I love more than my truck is my wife, daughters, and granddaughter so I would never put them in harms way. Lastly, all staff I interacted with were not only knowledgeable and professional but also very friendly. We have found our new family auto repair shop. Thanks Stephan and team! George

Scam mechanic didn’t even fix or address the original issue for bringing my car in. Same problem and check engine light still on. This mechanic had the front desk person work on my car and NOT a certified technician. I will not be back and will find a honest mechanic who can address and fix the issue. I brought in a 2003 mazda miata that had a loose timing belt that had slipped out of timing, from my own attempts to work on my car. The experts fixed it for me. Stephen was able to explain the problem and the fix to my satisfaction. Gary explained the second phase of repairs: After putting it all back together, it was discovered that one of the cam seals was leaking. Again, my own fault as I had replaced that seal with a used one. That is a disaster for a shop, as the original work had to be done again. They went back in and replaced the cam seal with a new one. They were very fair about the cost and only charged me about 1/3 what they could have for the second repair. They made customer satisfaction the priority. I certainly will use Made in America Made in Japan for my future repairs.

I’m absolutely pleased with the service here! I dropped my car (2013 Subaru Crosstrek) off when they opened, and around 10:30a I received a link to view a full report of my car. This report is organized by items that are in good condition, ok/need to be serviced soon, and bad/recommend change. The report also include data photos and a video, and I feel this shows how transparent and honest they are. I also received a call within 5 minutes to make sure I got the report and to see what I wanted to do moving forward. I also felt that Gary and Stephan listened to my concerns and offered great advice. I will definitely bring my car back here in the future and highly recommend them!

So first off, it was really nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone at the shop. I left several messages during hours and after hours... I even emailed the contact email and I was never actually contacted back in response...it took a fluke call during hours one day to hail someone on the phone, and then when I asked for a quote it seemed as though I was bothering, the gentleman who answered my call. He was very gruff with me and kind of yelled the quote price at me...thats not to even mention the quoted price he gave me...which was very, VERY expensive! Ive spoken to and obtained several different quotes for a replacement timing belt on my 1988 Toyota Corolla DLX and this shop wanted to charge me OVER $1000! To put things into perspective, the next most expensive quote also included a replacement water pump/installation AND would come all the way to me and do the work here at my place of residence for $500. And all the rest of the quotes just went down in price from there! It just left a really bad taste in my mouth and I know I will be going with another shop because after the towing fees to get my car to this shop + the quoted price + tax + anything else that may come up = more than I want to pay.

What we loved about this experience was from beginning to end they spoke to her and explained to her the issue and how to prevent it and what they did to fix it. I was looking for a shop to do an inspection on a vehicle I was thinking about buying. I honestly came across this place by just dumb luck. After reviewing the reviews on Yelp I decided to have them inspect the vehicle. I spoke with Steffan over the phone, he was able to accept the vehicle from the dealership on a Friday close to end of business day, and knock out the inspection first thing Monday morning. At no point did I get the vibe he was too busy to answer my questions or that this task was too small for them. Steffan and I talked early Monday, in addition to their inspection I had 14 other questions and concerns about this vehicle that I emailed to him. His tech did a thorough inspection including roughly 30-40 crystal clear photos of the good and bad with the vehicle. They then sent via text and email my inspection report along with the photos. Steffan knew I was working yesterday and in good faith sent this report to me before I’d even paid the $129 invoice. This was really one of the best $129 I’ve spent. It kept me from investing in something that would have brought me many costly headaches. As a business owner myself, I try and always provide the best customer service I can. Pride in ownership, that’s Made In America Made In Japan. I’ve found a new shop for future inspections and future servicing on my vehicles. Thanks guys.

Called the day before dropping off the car. Stephen and I had a very clear conversation about what I was looking to have repaired and possibly looked at. He made it very clear the guildlines in which they follow and how they operate. Which is to say, not a nut or screw or bolt gets touched unless the client says so. I like that. Ive had many experiences with other places where work was started and Im getting charged and I never authorized it. Not here. Again, I like that.The day comes, I drop off the car. Stephen again makes it clear that they would contact me with something other than what we agreed to, needs to be worked on and the would seek my permission before handling it. I went in for breaks and roaters.Once the job was done, I had no way of picking up the vehicle since I was at work and off after the shop closed for the day. We worked out how the car would be stored and everything was AOkay!The job was completed and was done so on a timely manner. When Stephen called me to tell me the job was done, we got a snag. My card for payment wasnt working. Stephen however wasnt gonna let a little thing like the bank being stingy stop him. Oh no. My man waited patiently on the phone for me to get him the funds required. It took 2 different cards and a help from a friend to complete the transaction but Stephen was a cool cucumber the whole time. He was respectful and patent and never once was upset about it. Its rare that you find this in the mechanic world. Most places would have kept the car and said Well see you tomorrow... I bought my Honda pilot in for overall evaluation and ask them to troubleshoot the clicking noise when I made the left turn. I like the report that they generated. One of the items is the dirty air filter that they recommended me to replace. I said that I will do it myself after I was given the overall quote to do the repair work(bad front axle replacement). When I picked up the Pilot and replaced the air filter next day at home, found out the whole air filter enclosure were not screwed in and the supposed dirty air filter was missing. Therefore, minus two stars.

Stephan really knows his stuff when it comes to cars. I went in for a warning light that turned out to be just out of sync and he fixed it for free. While there, however, he smelled gas and asked if he could take a look. When he did he found a problem that happens at the factory level and, if left untreated, would have blown my engine! After cleaning it up he realized he didnt have to replace anything, fixed the problem and only charged me for the labor. He really could have soaked me for new parts and everything but he didnt. Its a bit of a drive for me but I wont take my car anywhere else!Thanks Stephan!

I’ve called 3 times for printed estimate. I was told it would be $350-400 to fix oil leak. Since I never received written estimate,I took car elsewhere where I learned that problem was misdiagnosed and paid $150 to have repair. Also, learned previous $600 plus charges for diagnostic, coilreplacement and steam cleaning engine was overcharged. I realized they were having internal problems, and weren’t really taking care of customers. Plus, they always kept my car longer than promised. Worst experience I’ve had in very long time.

Update 4/2/21I am happy to have found talented mechanics to take care of my Subaru STI. I am blessed to have found them working in an ethical and honest establishment that treats their customers like they are the most important one they have. Many years of various repairs, from diagnostics to a recent engine rebuild, I have yet to be anything but 100% satisfied with the services I’ve received.Review from 2016I am so glad I came here!! I received a quote from my auto surgeon for multiple things that didnt turn out to be in need of replacement. When they changed the labor rate on their original quote, I decided to look for other options. I ended up speaking with Stephen, the service manager at Made in Japan Made in America, and brought my car in later that week. I appreciate the detailed inspection report, which includes pictures of the part being inspected, along with a green, yellow, or red check to indicate the condition of each. They arent the cheapest place in town, but when you consider the money you will save not replacing things that dont need replaced, it ends up saving quite a bit. Highly recommend!
