So good! Having an ice cream place that is vegan is so amazing. The ice cream is delicious and service is usually friendly. They get quite busy, so we like to go on a slower night. Busy nights have left us in line for 15-20 minutes. Not a reason for a lower star review though because it’s totally worth it. All flavors have been delicious.
LOVE THIS PLACE! It’s so nice to have a good dairy free ice cream that tastes just as good as any other ice cream. I no longer feel like I’m missing out on one of my favorite treats. If you have food allergies, this is a great option, (unless you have nut allergies). I highly recommend the Chocolate orange honeycomb! So good!
This ice cream is great, whether you are vegan or not! The flavors are creative, but they also have some standard flavors. My wife and I tried 8 flavors, and had the waffle cone. Due to COVID, it is take out only or eating on tables outside. You cannot dine inside. They are also not doing any drinks from the menu.
Went here last night and got their Dead To Me flavor. I love that everything is vegan and the creativity of their flavors. This place added depth to the ice cream experience by experimenting with different bases (coconut, cashew, etc.)
The ice cream was cheap and so very delicious. They have creative flavors and basic ones- all vegan which is my favorite aspect.
I came here on a cold and rainy Tuesday night, this is one of the only businesses that still refuse to serve clients inside and only sell to you through a window. Eat outside in the rain or jump into your car, “pay us and then figure it out on your own type of place”The ice cream is very good !
Stopped by on Sunday when it was closed. The owner happened to be there and opened up to give us ice cream. Super cool guy!Got the coffee and rocky road flavors. Absloutly delicious. Would highly recommend.
As a vegan, Ive gotten used to going out to restaurants and having few options available to me, let alone any dessert options I can eat. That being said it was a pleasant surprise coming to this place and having so many options available that are all vegan! Not to mention the ice cream tastes amazing! I think anyone, vegan or omni alike, would find this place great.
I ordered a small cup of rocky road with syrup in a cup and got very little syrup. I thought that was rather cheap of the employee; he could have been more generous. I have to say the ice cream there is absolutely delicious.
The value isnt there. You can either get a pint for $8 or a tiny sip for $3. You cant mix flavors. There are a bunch of gluten free flavors, so of thats what you need, there you go.I got the cookie dough and theres some weird zucchini hiding in there. Its fine to start with but I didnt care for the after taste
Im sure for the people who enjoy coconut it is great! However it is coconut and it is not advertised. The flavored ice cream doesnt actually taste like anything except for coconut.
It was sooo sweet. I understand that ice cream is supposed to be sweet but this was a bit over the top. The sweetness took away from the flavor. Also the texture of the ice cream isnt super creamy.. not my personal favorite...
So, so, so freaking amazing. By far the best ice cream Ive ever had, vegan or not! We came here after dinner and then couldnt stop thinking about it and went again later the same day! It was just as amazing the second time too! I want to buy all their pints of ice cream and get a second freezer just to fill with this ice cream.
I am a regular omnivore. I will say that the vegan food at monkey wrench was excellent! Theyre selection of beer was robust, their wine list was decent, and their bartender making specialty cocktails were very good! If I did not know the food was plant-based I would have believed myself to be in any old Mexican restaurant. After dinner we went next door to their ice cream, baked goods and espresso shop. Hear again the flavors and textures would not have communicated non-dairy and vegan. I tested many of there ice creams and enjoyed each and every one. I ended up with a ginger flavored scoop. Their prices were moderate. Their service staff were friendly and responsive. I would especially recommend this restaurant to folks who have a difficult time believing a vegan menu can taste as good as this one does. Give them a try with my recommendation.
Best ice cream in SLC. Unique flavors and youd never know its vegan. Worth the higher price point. Grasshopper mint-chip is 10/10 DANK
I was very excited to get a pint of the orange chocolate honeycomb. It cost $8, tasted like a weird coconut/alcohol combination, only had two pieces on honeycomb in it and then I was up all night puking it back up! I havent been here since before the pandemic. But they arent as good as I remember.
Great spot, nice staff, not crowded, hole in the wall place among many other quick stops like bars, food, coffee, etc, next to trax.
Vegan ice cream that leaves you wondering if theyve pulled a fast one on you and given you real ice cream instead. Rich, creamy, delicious, and all of the flavors come with generous chunks of its noted ingredients.Their new vanilla flavoring is to die for, which is why there is currently a pint of it in the freezer.
Not vegan, but I was told about this place by a friend. Idk who invented the recipe for the rocky road, but boy would I like to hug them because it was phenomenal. You can definitely tell theres something different about the ice cream, but in the best way! I didnt feel bloated or weighed down after eating it. I love Rocky Road because of its classic creamy chocolate base with almonds and marshmallows running through it, and Monekywrench definitely didnt disappoint. Also, the waffle cones are tasty. Theyre thicker than your typical waffle cone, and I could be wrong, but I swear they add cinnamon to their cones which makes them have the essence of a churro (one of my fave desserts). Ill be back for sure, but next time Im getting a double scoop!
If you havent tried this place yet, get down there asap! All Vegan ice cream and tons of great flavors. Ive tried 3 of them and was thoroughly impressed by them all. Great location in downtown Salt Lake City. Very clean environment, friendly and helpful staff and they had Jazz music playing which was also a huge plus!
Mostly bothered that this place’s advertising is misleading. We got here expecting ice cream and coffee. All of their ice cream tastes like coconut no matter what you get. Their sign says coffee as well as “16 ice cream flavors” but they are no longer serving coffee and they only have a few ice cream flavors available for scoops.
Their chocolate milkshake is to die for!!! “Tastes like a liquid brownie,” - my partner said as he took a sip. I’ve gotten the ice cream pints here twice and both were gone in one sitting. Normally, I can only have a few bites of normal ice cream but this place is too damn good. Whether you’re vegan, lactose free, or whatever under the sky; you’ll enjoy this place for sure!
Im not vegan but I absolutely love the ice cream here! The ice cream is wonderfully creamy, and they always have such creative and interesting flavors. The walk up window has been awesome and very much appreciated. Its definitely worth stopping by for some scoops or a pint to go!
Wanna have ice cream that’s not even actually ice cream? Come to this place. The Ice cream is all gluten free and tastes horrible. Wanna eat horrible vegan flavored “ice cream”? Come to this place. I never leave bad reviews but this felt like a disrespect to eat the ice cream
Omg, I love ice cream, but this is made with way WAY TOO much sugar..After three licks I couldn’t do more without a glass of water, and taste is not that good
Awesome dairy free and gluten free options.
Apparently the biggest complaint about this shop was the fact that an employee didnt let a customer in after closing? Get over yourself! It was 11:30, doesnt the employee have a right to go home as well? JFCAnyways, this ice cream shop was incredible. We were overwhelmed (in a fantastic way) at the huge offering of vegan ice cream flavors. WOAH! Luckily the employee was kind enough to keep doling out samples to my partner and I. We fell in love with the Stout Chocolate flavor and adored the house-made waffle cone we got a scoop in. Thank goodness we decided against two scoops, one was almost too much as an after-dinner treat for two people! This may require a separate day trip to fully utilize our stomach space for ice cream... Perhaps next time!
Unique flavors of some awesome dairy free ice cream.
Best place ever!! Its so nice having an ice cream place I can get non-dairy ice cream!! We need more places like this but you guys are top notch!!
We are not vegan, but we LOVE their ice cream. Their coffee is good too. All the employees are so helpful and polite. Thank you for having a walk up window! We feel very safe eating here even during COVID.
Amazing vegan ice cream (the Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter Fudge were my favorites), and the baked goods are delicious! The employee working was extremely nice too. If youre having trouble finding the place it is between Bangkok Terrace and Pulp. I will definitely go back next time Im in Salt Lake City.
Awesome!!We’re plant based so we love non-dairy options whenever we can get it. This is their brownie sundae with mint ice cream and fudge and caramel topping. Our son is allergic to cashews so he couldn’t have anything because all flavors are cashew based. Our other kids got waffle cones. It’s better to go at night when the parking is free. We can’t wait to go back!
Good ice cream but its borderline inaccessible. You have to park a mile away to get there or just walk from wherever you live which makes it not worth it.
For medical reasons my 6 year old daughter recently had to cut dairy out of her diet. It has been a difficult transition for her. I took her to Monkeywrench to show her that you can still get delicious food without the dairy. After tasting the Buds Cookie Dough she was ecstatic and couldnt believe how creamy and delicious it was. Thank you!
I was absolutely blown away by how delicious this dairy free ice cream was. I got the Peach cobbler for my birthday celebration a few weeks back. It was such a wonderful treat to have. So glad my friend introduced me. I will definitely be going again and again and again!
Adore this place! Please stay in business forever. I need you
Great icream lemon blueberry is now my favorite top 3 ice cream. Thsnk you so much
My husband and I aren’t vegan but we have a friend who is and he’s always scoping out new desserts. While I don’t think I could give up regular ice cream for this, it was an amazing alternative! We tried the mint chip, vanilla, rocky road, peanut butter and chocolate and banana brownie and it was divine. Cute location too!
The flavors tasted good and all, but I dont think theyre worth the price you pay. And I cant believe they make you pay extra for a freakin cone!?!?! Not worth it at all.
All the ice creams tasted like coconut . very expensive and not yummy at all.
Amazing flavors! I might prefer this over regular ice cream its so good.
If youre unsure whether you might like dairy free ice cream, please try this place out! Im in from out of town, loooooooooooved this place. The staff were really helpful and gave suggestions, my cone was a perfect portion (pictured: double scoop of funfetti in a waffle cone) and it was super tasty! All vegan, which was not a requirement for me, but it was delicious. Fun name and all that too.
Unfortunately, I can’t figure out why there are so many good reviews. The ice cream is terrible (we have given it a fair chance and tried six different flavors). They have such a strong coconut taste and a few of the flavors were so bad that we had to just throw them away, which is really disappointing as it is so expensive. They will not let you sample any flavors and refuse to take back/replace as scoop if you don’t like it. This is really poor customer service. We will not be returning nor recommending this establishment to other vegans, non-vegans, or our dairy-free friends. We will have to stick to the dairy-free ice cream options at the grocery store, which are much better.
Good vegan ice cream. Its very creamy and they have so many flavor options! The cold brew is pretty good, I got mine with some oat milk and I liked it. I appreciate the waffle cones as they are sweet and crispy but not too thin. Would definitely stop through here again.
Wow wow wow!!My first time in a all vegan ice cream joint and I’m thoroughly impressed! The ice cream isn’t too heavy or sweet and it goes down super smooth. It doesn’t quite melt like real ice cream but it’s ok, if you wanted dairy cream you wouldn’t come here anyways. I tried the caramel cone and strawberry. Both were amazing! The caramel cone has crunch cone pieces dipped in chocolate and caramel swirls. The strawberry were basically fresh strawberries and cream(vegan cream). Simple and refreshing dessert that doesn’t leave you full of regret after.
The most AMAZING vegan ice cream Ive ever had! It tastes so creamy, and they have the best flavors. I highly recommend the Earl Gray Tea and Biscuits flavor. You can get scoops and also purchase little pints to keep at home.
Not only was the ice cream sweet.... so was the lady serving ice cream and hot cocoa. Very tasty desserts.
LOVE having this great vegan ice cream downtown! Thank you Monkeywrench 🐒 💫
Monkeywrench is great! Love that it is vegan the worked offered samples and suggestions and it was delicious. I got vanilla with cookie cumbles on top and my sister got cookie dough with fudge sauce. The ice cream did taste a bit sweeter than traditional dairy ice cream but that could just be me. Ive being trying to eat less animal products so it is lovely that places like this exist. Keep it up! I will go back!
Was really looking forward to yummy vegan ice cream. They had a lot of flavors including some unique ones. However, all 3 flavors we purchased were too sweet. Also, they were not creamy, perhaps better than store bought ones but not significantly.
This vegan ice cream is so creamy and delicious. My second favorite in the country after Frankie & Joe’s in Seattle. There are tons of amazing flavors. Go here!
Rocky Road and Cookie Dough are super amazing!Best part, NO DAIRY!!!!!!
Absolutely terrible. Extremely expensive, very small portions, and the taste was the worst vanilla Ive ever had. There was also no real choices for flavors. Severely disappointed.
Not really the best vegan ice cream. Has a very doughy texture and a lot of the flavors taste the same. If you’re vegan with no other options it’s a pretty good bet. Good customer service.
Brilliant place, even during a pandemic. Highly recommend getting your favorite ice cream overtop their brownie! So delicious youll forget its vegan! Customer service was awesome as well. Will visit again!
The best spot for vegan ice cream in the whole Salt Lake Valley. Their staff is friendly and eager to help. You can also sample fast their flavors to find the flavor you like best! They have good coffee selections and you can get their ice cream in a pint to go!! So thankful that I found this place because it’s my favorite ice cream spot
Im a dairy person myself, but my girlfriend (a vegan) loves this place. Her personal favorite being the lavender flavor. A must try, its great
TWICE ive been here they mess up my order. The girls working the front either dont care, dont listen, or like to pick and choose who they like to help. The ice cream is amazing but honestly get some new employees because literally Ive only been here twice and each time i get double scoop on a cone and i get charged for it and receive double scoop in a bowl. And its been busy when I go so last time people thought I was skipping the line trying to correct my order and this time the girl just walked away from the window! Seriously...
I’m not vegan, but this ice cream is amazing anyway! The flavor combos are creative and different. The waffle cones are possibly the best I’ve ever had. Parking is tough, so bike or walk if you can - it’ll be worth it!
So delicious! I got the peanut butter cup and totally loved it! I’m vegan, so I appreciate that everything is dairy free. Even my non-vegan friends loved what they ordered!
I LOVE this place. Hands down the best vegan ice cream Ive ever tried. My favorite things about this small shop.-They offer other items aside from ice cream-Their coffee is amazing.-The staff is always friendly.-The ice cream is made in small batches, so you know youre getting fresh product.
I love ice cream. I go everywhere I go. And i dont care what its made of. If its made out of carpet and tastes like good ice cream, cool. The ice cream here is good - but it is vegan, and you can tell. Texture is a little off. Great assortment of flavors though.
This place has fantastic ice cream. Its artisan and is a really great place for a date. Their flavors are original and inventive, and I liked every kind that Ive tried so far. Parking can be tricky but its well worth it. Outdoor seating is nice as well.
I’m not the type to write a review but I had a stellar experience. I’m gluten intolerant and asked the girl at the window about the gluten free options and how they manage cross contamination. She was very friendly and got the chef from the back and he explained all about their practices and the steps they take to stop contamination with gluten, he was very patient with all my questions. They have a lot of gluten free options so I got a pint! My family loved it and I didn’t get sick. We will be back
Best non dairy ice cream! I had tea and biscuits in a waffle cone and it was amazing - wouldn’t have known it was non dairy if I hadn’t been told
I love coming here after work! The ice cream is good, but I feel like the scoops are a little small for the price. So I instead go for the gluten free sugar cookies. Finding baked goods that are both gluten free and vegan is rare so it’s great to find some just across the street! They’re adorably shaped like ice cream cones and absolutely delicious. The employees are all very friendly as well.
Fast, efficient, and courteous service. Prices are appropriate. My apartment is far from here, so I cant visit often.
DONT go there if youre not vegan. Its pretty gross. Very doughy ice cream, and crumbly brownie.
I love this place. Its always super clean, the staff is always friendly, and the ice cream is delicious. The milkshakes were disappointing because instead of adding real fruit, they added a ton of artificial syrup. The quality was not worth what I paid. Their ice cream is full of tastey natural ingredients and tastes true to their flavors.
One star only because Google won’t let me give this place zero stars. My daughter called it “the worst ice cream she had ever had” and I don’t disagree. We had three flavors and all were not just bad, but terrible. Did not even finish my one tiny scoop of ice cream.
The BEST non-dairy Ive cream Ive tasted yet!
Really good, and I can eat normal ice cream. It is diary free and has gluten free options. Tastes like a premium ice cream and is so rich you will be satisfied
Wow. I cant even begin to describe how amazing the ice cream is here. Its all 100% vegan, but it tastes just like regular ice cream. I havent had real ice cream in years and this brought back so many memories.Theres tons of cool, unique flavors that get made on a daily basis. The staff is incredibly friendly and caring. The shop itself might be small, but it definitely makes a big impact.
Five of us decided to visit and all at once we received our cold cup and took a bite. Everyone’s face turned inside out. 😂 Like, “What kind of awfulness did we just put in our mouths???” Truly the worst iced dessert any of us have ever had. A couple people took one more bite just to confirm it was as awful as they thought. Confirmed. Absolutely terrible. We immediately found a nearby trash can where other uneaten cups and cones of ANTI DAIRY concoctions were tossed.
I really liked the ice cream but fair warning the flavors we tried were very coconutty
Such delicious and unique dairy-free ice cream flavors!! I loved each one I sampled. My favorite part about this place is that they use metal spoons!!! For samples!!! So amazing. And the service was so nice. I can’t wait to go back!!
I know this is a place for ice cream, but I LOVE their brownies. They are so rich and chocolatey. The staff is also super nice.
No samples, not sure why, not like a plastic spoon gets reused. This leaves you not getting able to try new things and go with a less ambitious flavor. Not making milkshakes at this time, even though they publish having - entire reason we walked there. Ice cream was so-so.
As a person who considers themselves as much a fan of ice-cream as the next, this place will astound. Directly next door to their sister-store Bolt Cutter, MONKEYWRENCH is the perfect compliment to the spicy aftermath of the nextdoor burritos; vegan or no, the desserts here are undeniably flavorful and unique, and delicious to boot. If you haven’t had dairy-free ice-cream before, you will notice a different texture than you might be used to, similar to brands such as Halo Top. But this is an easy trait to look past; their diverse flavors will have something for nearly everyone, and you may just be surprised to find that you have the best ice-cream of your life. I certainly was!
I prefer dairy in my ice creams, but this may change my mind. It was delicious. The brownie is not that good though. :)
This place has THE BEST ice cream around! I love how amazing the flavors are and it’s the most creamy vegan yogurt there is. I take all my friends here that fly into town. So good. 😋
I was actually pretty impressed by the flavor, but really good vegan ice cream is still vegan ice cream. Like others have noted, the texture is just a bit off. Priced a bit high too-- a 2-scoop ice cream waffle cone is about $8. Thats two containers of Tillamook from the grocery store. Your call 🤷♂️
