Foods great. Though the place needs a little upgrading. Server was very nice. This is the first lunch we had since we arrived. And we are definitely super satisfied with the food. Even the fish i ordered was really good. I can never come back to Utah without stopping by for a meal here again. I highly recommend this place.
Food taste so good!! Highly recommended! :) I recommend the “Chicken Florentine with Spaghetti” or “Sauted Shrimp With Spaghetti” or “Steak & Spaghetti “ or the “Philly Steak Sandwich” also if u want something fitness try the “Trout Salad” is on the picture.I’ve tried all those and more and i have to say that they are really good! :)
BEWARE! They dont take credit cards (they say they like to keep off the 3% credit card fee and keep prices cheap). The service isnt great, the food is honestly pretty bad... I wouldnt recommend coming here and I wont be back. To their credit, the prices are really good... But the prices are just as good as the food quality. I was probably the youngest customer by 20 years...
Coachmans is like no other restaurant, where you feel like you have traveled back in time to where service was important, where fresh ingredients were always used, and where you got large portions for a very reasonable price. Even the decor matches that yesteryear feeling. Its a slice out of time. Just be aware they do not accept credit or debit cards—is it cash or check only.
We are so sad that Coachman’s is closing! We have always loved it. It brings back so many wonderful memories of dinners with my grandfather. It was his favorite restaurant. We continued to go after he passed away and always loved all the food we got. We really always were “pleasantly surprised.” (If ya know, ya know.)We were one of the last tables served tonight before the food ran out, and we are so glad we went one last time.Thank you to all those wonderful people who served us. We will never forget Coachman’s Dinner & Pancake House! ❤️❤️❤️
I was more then then happy to come back to Utah and see this great landmark open again. I am proud of the owners son to finally step up and carry on the business his parents built so many years ago. We all straggle at times in our lifes but my heart warms when I see real change and progress in a person. The food and service was fantastic and you can bet Ill be back again and again. Good job yall!
Little bit of a wait to get into this old school diner. Bring your paper money as it takes cash only. There is an ATM on site. Well worth the wait, old school look, and cash only policy, because the breakfast we had was delicious and overfilling. I had the strawberry pancakes, which were actually crepes. Tasted excellent and our waitress was extra helpful and sweet.
There are few places left in this world that can, and will, take you back to a simpler time. The time you sat with your parents at the table and were able to order for yourself or simply a great memory from the past. That is what Coachman’s is, a place of memories, and pretty dang good good too! This place is an INSTITUTION, and anyone that is from salt lake or the neighboring communities can tell you is everyone knows Coachman’s.A place where you can still get soup, salad, meal, dessert and a drink for a reasonable price. But let’s be honest here, is the food going to win a Beard award? Probably not, but the friends you’ll see and meet here along with the ambience is what makes this place a go-to in the city. I have loved this place since I was a child and 4 decades later I still enjoy it every time. This is where I take people who come and visit, this is where we go to enjoy a low key meal with friends and family.Long live Coachman’s!TRY the “Chicken-Chicken” and the bread pudding for dessert!
An excellent restaurant. Staff were friendly, and the dinner was an incredible deal. Everything was delicious. If I had to add one criticism, the portion of the main entree was a bit small, but with everything else they gave that was hardly noticeable.I ordered salmon, and in addition to the salmon entree received a dinner roll, soup, salad and dessert. For under 20.I had been advised that they only accept cash, so I pass on the same word.
I have heard that the Restaurant is going away and that the whole corner there will be revived with something new. It will be sad to see this go I have been going to the Coachman since I was a child. I have taken friends and family and work clients to this place. Thanks to Mike and his Dad and their family for all the memories and good food.
You know, sometimes a hot bowl of soup hits the spot. Good food. Reasonable prices. Kind staff. Ni Diet Coke but hey, I need to drink more water, anyway.
You would think being their last night, they may have done their best, right? WRONG!!! I mean, I can understand the need to wait to be seated, thats typical, but they tried giving us dirty silverware to start. Got NOTHING to drink because we ran out of clean glasses! Ask for coffee with creamer, they were out of creamer. Brings rolls to the table with oh, these were the last 2 rolls (there was 4 of us!) Soup came and just smelled so disgusting, we left. Ive never received such horrible service as I did there, and my boyfriend said nothing had changed in the 10+ years since he last ate there. I hadnt been there in that long myself, but if they werent going out of business, I sure as hell would NEVER go back!
I talked about this place this week and I said it took me back in time. Well it also took me back in time to the whole steak and potatoes days. Where are you got real food in a good quantity of it. I’m writing this again because I went back call. There is so many things on the menu that is hard to make a decision. No cocktails or a glass of wine which I would’ve enjoyed, but this is Utah nerd many strange laws. I’m thinking going there for breakfast would be fantastic.Try it out. I’ll get some photos next time.
Im so sad this place is closing. To appreciate Coachmans its important to compare the place, not only to other restaurants but every restaurant ever. Crushed Red Velvet on the walls, the massive wagon wheel in the large banquet room, and cash only...its the best. So many people dont get it. This place is what it is. If you dont like the authentic style pancake house straight from the 70s then get back in your sub compact and drive to IHOP. If you want to have a great time and share a few laughs with some real characters then come on down and be part of the family of patrons that makes this place special. You WILL be pleasantly surprised!
Ive been going to Coachmans since 1973 when they were located on 3400 South state area. They still have the best spaghetti, the best liver and onions, great breakfast great service! and its a habit of mind to drop in on Thursdays and get their lemon rice soup which is the bomb! Love this place cant say enough about them! did I mention they havent raised their prices like everybody else in this state.
Bring cash. Your basic diner near downtown. Breakfast is their best meal. The place itself looks run down on the outside but this place stays consistent on the bfast menu items.
Good food and very reasonable prices. However since the covid-19 flu hit, service, portion size and quality has diminished some. The restrooms are always a mess and sometimes out of order.
The Eggs Benedict was pretty good, and the potatoes were excellent. I appreciated that the food wasnt super salty! It was delicious.
Very nice staff!! Has some pretty good pancakes, hash browns, country potatos, and sausage. The eggs were okay.... You could probably make the same quality omlet at home. The decor is interesting and fun! Will for sure come again next time we visit Salt Lake! Good prices too! Youll leave full!
Its been years since I have been back here. I love this place! The food is fantastic, and at a good price. The service is good most of the time, and everyone is real friendly. Great coffee!
This place has the vibe of a sketchy wendover casino restaurant without any of the benefits. I could have bought better hash browns from a gas station, and to top it all off they only accept cash thats right 2021 and no cards are accepted. This place would need Gordan Ramsey to turn it around
This restaurant was recommended by a freind and BOY was he right. It looks like its from the 70s,but that is part of its charm. We ordered the rib eye steak dinner, best tasting steak Ive had in a long time. Plenty of sides with it. The service we had was above and beyond what is expected.
The waitress was very fast. So many courses. I loved that! Gave us time together. Food was wonderful and there was plenty. Nice to see managers out working 💪
Great service, I had liver and onion lunch special. It was wonderful the liver was tender and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite of everything. I will be going again most definitely! Prices are reasonable
Classic eating spot! Glad I was able to come one last time before they close to make way for cookie cutter condos. I hope they open in another location.
Absolutely Love Coachmans! We got the waffle special and chicken fried steak. My waffles were perfect pockets of butter and syrup! My counterpart ate every last bite of his meal ( except what I stole from his plate). Seriously the best chicken fried steak we have ever had. The ambiance of this place is so unique it keeps your eye interested with its lighting and velvet panels. Service was quick and friendly with genuine servers there to help. We frequent here often and even heard from vets of the establishment who have been going there for 30 YEARS. Thats consistent quality guys. This place will surprise you and keep you coming back for more. Be sure to bring cash!
Foods pretty good. Other than the shrimp. Everything else was great!
Nice food and prices. A very good Selection of eats. After 5 you get the soup and salad.
I love this place. Sometimes its super busy. But this place has the best crepes I have had in Salt Lake City.
The Liver and Onions was terrific! I really wanted to try the lamb bc Ive never had lamb but wasnt sure, however the price is what kept me from it. I did go out on a limb & get the Liver and Onions...it was So good. Even my husband was jealous. He got the Roast Beef Dinner. If this is your first visit, tell the server they should be able to give you the rundown on how the menu works. We shouldve done that this time as it was only our 2nd time & its been a while. The place is almost like a time warp...I love the old elegant decor & the oldies music. You know you havent gone back in time bc the patrons are current era & the prices are current. Great place to try at least once...if not daily.
Really good food. They only take cash. They do have an ATM.
Coachmans has always held a special place in my heart. Coachmans closing feels as painful as it was when Lambs Grill closed. Im going to miss this place.
Let me start off by saying how do you mess up chicken tenders. This was probably the worst food I’ve gotten at a restaurant. I didn’t eat anything on my plate and I was constantly drinking water after every bite to wash down the atrocious taste. Only got my water refilled once as well. 0/5 stars do not eat here
Ive never had a bad experience here not even subpar there prices are cheap the food is in a big proportions and really good not a complaint.
Food was ok. Service was good. No credit cards taken. No sign at the door telling you they saying cash only. Cash isn’t a problem but using the atm to get cash in the lobby and being charged a fee is. I left bothered and most likely will not come here again. Not recommended. Eat somewhere else.
I ate there 35 yrs ago, now when I went there it still looked the same. Service was good the food was average. Didnt like that they didnt take plastic only cash.
No signs posted that its cash only. So after eating you go to pay with debt or credit card thats when your informed of the case only policy. And of course they have an 🏧 on the premises that of course has a fee attached.
Best breakfast I ever had eating out since Ive been in Utah 😋😋 excellent service too 😎
For the record, I love this place. I probably go there twice a month, and I am always satisfied. The price, the portion size, and the decor are awesome. The liver and onions is excellent. Good breakfast food, and I also love their chicken pot pie! If you go in here expecting Copper Onion, you may be disappointed with the food… I.e. iceberg lettuce, marshmallow sauce on fresh fruit, slightly overcooked sides of vegetables that at times seem like they came out of a can… But there is something about Coachmans that I really like. It really does feel like kind of a time warp going in there. My only complaints, (not reflected in my star rating ) are that I much preferred the late 50s and 60s oldies soundtrack that they had going for years.. now it’s more like late 70s early 80s adult contemporary. For me the vibe of the restaurant, (and the age of much of the clientele!) is better matched with The Platters than Kenny Loggins.I also really miss the sign outside that read “ come in, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!“
So weird and creepy! But the food is really good, and people are really friendly! :D
Very unpretentious place. We just wanted to get lunch in us, but everyone at the table was surprised at the food quality. I had the rib eye steak. The price was so low I thought it would be a typical diner type steak but Im ok with that. To my surprise, this was one of the best steaks which came with so many things like salad, soup, dessert, and sides. I couldnt finish it, and Im a big eater. Everyone at the table had an equally good time.
I loved this place fast staff good food bit of old school cool.
American food and service here is excellent. loved this place from the first taste. next time ill be back with my friends. the prices are well within reason for the quality. they have a lot of positive reviews for a reason.
Have only been here a handful of times, but the food and service is always excellent! I would definitely recommend it!
This is possibly the greatest restaurant experience of my life. Everyone that was employed ther was fantastic. The menu is hard to choose from since all of the items are fantastic and very reasonable in price. Id recommend if you are ever in the area be sure to make coachmans a dining stop 100%
The food was good but the host set us ar a corner table that was way two tight and his attitude was not pleasant.
American food... yummy. I like it here, excellent food & service. The service was very friendly and kind. This place has a good atmosphere. Food is like a place in Baltimore I loved.
This actually is a diamond in the ruff of Salt Lake City that has been there since I was 12 years old (now 67). My high school friend use to manage it in the late 60s.The price is still amazingly cheap, the food is still great and plenty of it with a very large menu and the waitresses are right on top of their service. You wont regret going back in time to the Coachmans and fair warning... they only take cash after all these years, just to make you honest. 😆
What an establishment. Cant go wrong. Expansive menu.
My top scene for tasty American food. service is consistently great. bring your hunger - portions are large. food is similar to a cafe in portland i liked.
Such a fun retro experience! Wish I had taken Fred there before he passed..He would have LOVED it. Great coffee in mugs from 1978..Eggs served exactly the way we ordered..Wait staff zigs and zags like they are treated well, smiling and proud of their longstanding establishment..My son and I are on our way back to get bfast at 1pm.
Excellent quality, large portions, reasonable prices, great service. One of my favorite places!
Great lunch, I like this place for lunch, they have a great menu and I like all the different meals Ive had here.
One of my favorite spots for tasty American food. Super savory. Will surely make a return trip. This place has a nice feel to it.
The steak and eggs were absolutely amazing but the omelette was served without cheese?? The service was something to be desired, the waitress never came back to check on how our food was. It was definitely an interesting experience.
Very good food and service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
You will be missed! Thank you so much for all your wonderful service and great food❣
The worse service I have ever had. We go quite a bit and usually great. Today way different. We were 3rd person to be seated when open at 10am. We were seated at 1001. Everyone recieved breakfast except me. The rest of table didnt get toast or pancakes till after they were done eating. Me Im still waiting 11:15. Finally I ask to go my order because everyone ready to go. 11:36 I finally get order. Sad to see it so bad.
We always enjoy the food and have gone here since the 70s
This is an old favorite hadnt been there in a long time. Food was just as good as we remembered.
Have to pay cash only or use the ATM . Great food and service.
I have been eating here for over 20 years. Home style cooking and family environment in downtown Salt Lake City.
The sausage was delicious, the eggs were perfect and the pancakes came with sugar-free syrup
Ill go out of my way for this place. They have awesome food and prices. But remember its a cash only place.
Cash only! Good food, cozy and nostalgic atmosphere. Busy hours can lead to lesser service, but waiters are pleasant enough. If you’re looking for a classic diner breakfast this is the place. Let me say again, CASH only. I’ve been several times and I’ve always been satisfied.
Great as always..Staff Were friendly and very attentive to bringing out water and coffee.. Food was delicious and you get quite a bit of it for the price. I had the steak and shrimp dinner and everything was done perfectly.
Great coffee and food. A unique atmosphere.
I had the chicken fried steak with the mashed potatoes, the gravy was brown, with mushrooms.....It was bonkers! The whole meal was amazing, the others with me kept trying to eat off my plate, whack, wtish, slap! No touch it, is mine. Definitely eating there again.
This place is constantly busy and its no wonder because they have great food, and a lot of it, at reasonable prices. The meals and the service are wonderful and they have a great variety of food. They make a wonderful breaded veal which they serve with a cheese sauce you cant find anywhere else. Its my favorite meal. Their soups are to die for. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.
Lived here 40+ years. Only recently tried this restaurant. Wife and I love their food here. Great restaurant worth trying!
Amazing customer service and everything Ive eaten is delicious every time Ive ordered it!
Never had a bad meal there. Been a customer for as long as they have been open.My wife loves the crab salad.I had a nice Trout lunch.
American food... awesome. Staff is always super even when they have a full house. Prices that are reasonable.
They dont accept credit cards just cash...Food delicious...
