I bought a new tire from this place when I got there the guys where watching a video on the phone didn’t greet me I walked into the office the lady was greeted me. I told her what I needed, I had to wait until the guys where done watching the video on the phone to get my new tire put on, there was no place to sit I’m 8 and a half months pregnant standing outside waiting the whole time. Once the tire was one he drove it to the front, once I got into my car I learned he didn’t put enough air in the new tire so I went to a gas station near by to add more air.

I stopped by here to replace my brakes and get my oil changed and the front desk was wonderful to work with. One of the men working on my car came out to show me what was going on with my car and the transparency is very much appreciated. Wish I got his name but him and the front desk’s name (V. Vargas, I have difficulty hearing sometimes), they were both super nice. Going to come back whenever I need something else done.

We learned of this place from an ad mailed to us. They had a great coupon for an oil change. We sent in our teenager and everything was handled with no problem. I went in a few weeks later. Receptionist was friendly. Big clean waiting room available. I was surprised to receive a text of not only a picture of the person working on my car... but also pics and explanations of other possible issues. An auto tech asked if there was anything else I’d like to work on and I opted to do air filters too. Everything was done quickly. I was impressed to receive a follow up text a few days later from them. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back. Thank you guys!

I called 4 shops before reaching out to Family Auto Service. None of the others were available to fix my brakes. They were grinding and I couldnt put off the repairs any longer. Gary recognized the sense of urgency in my voice and told me to come right in.I added on a routine oil change, which was overdue, and decided to wait at home while the work was being done. I realized I forgot to ask about my windows and locks because they hadnt been working for a while, so I called it in and Gary was able to identify it as an electrical issue. I opted to have that repaired as well.A full diagnostic was done on the car, complete with photos and commentary, sent directly to my phone. This made everything so much easier to visualize and understand. The repairs were pretty extensive but the pricing was extremely fair. Everything is working again!Being a woman, several service centers have tried to rip me off over the years. Im so glad I finally found a shop I can trust!

I particularlydepend / request for either Ney or Johnto work on my 3 cars. The new owner’sstaff, Gary & Chris are also very accommodating & dependable.

I was recommended this business by a family member who knows cars inside and out. I am very picky about where I take my car because I treat my vehicle as if it’s my own flesh and blood, and I have to say I was very satisfied with the service I received. The employees were very friendly and professional. My car didn’t sit around waiting to be serviced like they are at other chain businesses. They were timely, and I felt that they were also honest to me. I have been lied to at other car maintenance facilities, but here they didn’t try to tell me that my 3 year old car had all sorts of problems that it doesn’t have. Overall, very impressed with the professionalism and business conduct and I would definitely recommend!

Once in 2020 I changed the oil and practically did not use this expensive car, I was parked more often. from the first couple of times I did not notice what was happening, but after a couple of months when the smoke from under the hood became strong, I opened the hood to see what was happening.I opened the plastic cover under hood, and found oil under it, in the grooves on the top of the engine in all possible places, around the oil filler cap.This oil was fresh, not from the engine, drips were visible from these open areas where I saw the oil. I removed all the oil with a paper towel, and rubbed everything around where there were drips as much as I could.But the problem persisted, the engine smoked and smelled of fired oil as soon as it got hotter, I had to do a lot to fix this problem. The 110 $ cabin filter does not help to simply change. When you wash the engine in an expensive car, no one can guarantee that the car and electronics will work normally.Why am I writing all this ?! I tried to make an appointment normally, and when I rescheduled this appointment because of my job, (I was physically there for this); I did not like the attitude, as I understand it, of the new owner of this business, he personally communicated with me at the front desk. It seemed to me by all indications that I was just not in the subject, go away, boy, do not interfere with work.So with that I think we say goodbye. Do business further, your choice to apologize or not is not for me to judge you.I didnt notice, but it looks like they changed the name and owner. Therefore, with the service of three cars, I will look for someone who will do well, and most importantly, be responsible for mistakes, even if there were any. We can all be wrong.

My dad recommended this shop because he swears by the mechanics there and loves the customer service. I had brakes and rotors replaced and my car rides better. They did a great job. Been coming here whenever I need maintenance. Its a new name but same great service. This place has been my go to because the staff and service is excellent based on my experiences so far. They are very knowledgeable and have great communication. They breakdown all the things I need fixed along with the cost. My last visit, the cost wasnt cheap to be honest but it was a lot cheaper than going to the dealership and pretty much got the same quality maybe even better.

I had some break work done at John’s (pads, rotors and sensors) on my mini, but as soon as I drove off the lot, the break light remained on. I figured it was something I just had to manually reset, but I couldn’t figure it out, and the dealership was unhelpful. I took it back to John’s which is now under this new ownership. And they were excellent! Turns out I had some bad sensors, and since it was an error with the original service, they took care of it at no charge.John’s always took care of me, and I’m happy to say the new ownership is just as great!

Very good service. Went in for an oil change. I thought it was a bit expensive at $75 for a fairly inexpensive car. We were given a list of maintenance things we need to take care of which was good. All in all, a very good experience but will likely not come back based on the cost.

Its hard to find a good mechanic. Youll find them here. This place is centrally located and easy to get to. Nice folks.

Honest and very helpful.I asked him to check something last minute on my car that I brought in for an oil change and he had no problem doing so. He told me what the issue was and didn’t charge for taking a look. He was honest with me and gave me a recommendation on when it would need to be looked at again and repaired. I received an coupon in the mail for a $20.00 oil change from here which was perfect because it was due time for my car. I called and easily made an appointment with the friendly female receptionist and also conveyed to her that I wanted to see if the mechanic could take a look at my belts because my car was making a screeching noise. They were more than happy to do so free of charge (they do a general inspection with each oil change). Its also great that they ask for your permission before adjusting or doing any additional work on the car. The staff was just as friendly in person and the oil change took 40 minutes. They also found that my belts needed to be adjusted which they were happy to do for an extra $25.00. With the disposal fee for the oil the whole thing came out to $50.00 and I was out of there in just under an hour. It may not be the fastest oil change process, but I did have a good experience overall. Would highly recommend. I believe they do all kinds of auto body work as well. Will definitely be returning for my regular oil change especially because they have a loyalty punch card when you get a free oil change on your 10th visit I believe. Great marketing and customer service!

An old friend of mine used to manage Johns Auto, and I remembered how miffed he would get towards other shops ripping people off. I figured that would still be the culture there. It is. $350.00 is a lot of money, sure, but they could have really bled me with what was wrong with my car and didnt. They did only what was needed at a fair price, and were very clear and personable. Now I dont need to worry about where Im taking my car next time. Its a no BS business on par with AAA.

Excellent service, honest and fair pricing and fine people. I had a wheel alignment and was charged less because there was only minor adjustment required. I’m definitely going back for a brake job. They quoted a lower price than my independent BMW mechanic. And they also offer a Costco member discount.

Quick and easy. Was referred to here by another auto center for a engine cleaning. Did a great job to help me and my mechanic figure out where my oil leak was coming from.

I went there a lot when it was jones, new owners recently bought it. Got flim flammed on the phone about a couple of tires. Im out.

Only place in the county that is licensed to steam engine bays. John’s tech did a great job cleaning the lower engine area and underside of my 20 yo car and removed 20 years of crud off the motor to prep for engine work. Very good results, happy to recommend their steam cleaning services.

I have an old pickup. When I call most of the listed smog shops, they either don’t certify a 1993 model or charge me an excessive amount. John’s has their rates posted when you walk in. They don’t deviate nor make up phony repairs needed to get certified. An honest mechanic is a true find!

Great service ! I called and received an appointment right away. The bathrooms were amazing and clean. Rare for an automotive facility. The waiting room was comfortable. I wasn’t there long however because the service was so fast.

Had brought my Chevy Silverado to multiple “credible” places to find out what was wrong with my truck. Brought it to Johns as it was close to my work and trying to see what the issue was. They were the only ones who figured it out and it was an issue from a rebuilt transmission I got done from another place that had told me it wasn’t that, well I went back with Johns information and they had to fix it on warranty, AND Johns did t even charge me the full inspection cost because they found it so fast. Highly recommend this place as they are honest and fair and that is so hard to find in automotive care !!

I was referred here by a local tire shop. They did an alignment check on my car after being involved in a minor accident. They were quick, friendly and got me in the same day and the alignment was cheaper than the body shop I went to for the estimate.

I took my second car for AC service. It’s a 1999 Chrysler 300M. They told me it only needed a refrigerant charge. Other places would fabricate unnecessary repairs. Great service and attitude.

Very professional, took the time to give me a quote by looking up all the information, didnt charge me more than they quoted even though they had to use more oil, very good service, very prompt and same day appointment. I am impressed. BTW, their quote was the best of all the ones I got around town.

Whenever I bring my car in they are honest about the work that is needed and what isn’t, and always keep me informed of any cost adjustments or extra work and implications of fixing it (or not fixing it). Having a mechanic you trust is worth their weight in gold, and I wouldn’t take my car anywhere else.

On 06/05/2020 I had an electrical problem with my Volvo SUV. I contacted the front desk and made an appointment for that afternoon. When I brought the car in the staff was prompt in working on the car. I was able to drive away that same day with the issue resolved.

These people are professional and give the best customer service. Since my car was very old, I decided not to proceed with the needed repairs (cracked block) I decided to donate my car to KPBS in San Diego. I was prepared to move my car off the premises but Paula checked with Nick and told me I could keep the car on the premises since I was donating it. She saved me about $140 towing. The fee to Johns automotive was just over $100 for their assessment which I thought was very fair. I recommend Johns without reservation. Great company!

I have an 89 Toyota truck I bought new at Kearny Mesa Toyota. It has over 400K miles on it. Johns Auto has been my mechanic for most of those years, since I found the shop with the advice of my sisters husband. The staff is friendly, professional, honest, with fair pricing. I have a great relationship with the staff. Today, I was in for an oil change and they found a nail in my tire. I havent had any issues whatsoever with the quality of service. Harold, the owner, is down to earth, no nonsense. The same guys have been working there for many years, with a couple of new faces of late. They know me by name, and always say hi. There is a clean and comfortable waiting room with a door to keep the noise out, a TV with a few stations, and reading materials like National Geographic. The only downside is the coffee could be better. Drive through Starbucks on your way.

Johns Automotive Center provides the best service in town. Im so thankful for my friend who referred them to me. The work is of an excellent quality. The communication is extremely professional. They are honest and of top integrity. Many people I know take their cars there. The work is always done on time and they always end up doing some extra tweaks at no extra charge. Harold (the owner) and April (the receptionist/manager) are super nice. The feeling there is warm and fuzzy not like your usual plasticky automotive dealer/shop people. This is the only auto shop I have been to in San Diego where I never feel like I am being taken advantage of for being a female. The service writer April is always friendly and knows her stuff. All of the technicians there are also extremely knowledgeable and have access to the best equipment.

***This review covers the SMOG TEST ONLY***Ive been getting my car SMOG tested here for the past 5 years and the experience was always pleasant until recently. Like always, the staff was friendly when I dropped my car off and they asked me how it was running. I told them its been OK for the most part, but that Ive been having some minor transmission issues.Since it was a beautiful day, I decided to talk a short walk after handing them the keys. When I returned, I was informed my car FAILED the SMOG test. Your check engine light was on. Thats an automatic fail. they told me. I seriously had no idea. So I asked them, if they knew it was going to fail-why did they still run the test? We have to. What kind of BS answer is that?!They suggested I take my inspection report to my mechanic and have them run a diagnostic. Although the inspection report they produced shows where the issues are-my mechanic will still have to perform THEIR OWN diagnostic. So the question remains, WHY RUN A SMOG TEST IF ITS A GUARANTEED FAIL?!?!Ultimately, Johns Automotive Center cost me $40 to waste 45 minutes of my time and give me a useless report. Upon seeing my check engine light on, they should have postponed running the test. Perhaps the failure of a SMOG test due to a check engine light is common knowledge, but I had never heard that and they certainly didnt tell me. Its evident to me this business DOES NOT HAVE THEIR CUSTOMERS BEST INTERESTS IN MIND.As if performing an unnecessary service to squeeze a couple bucks out of a customer wasnt enough, they were unwilling to negotiate any kind of discount. I guess years of patronage dont mean much to them...If you need a SMOG test, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Great service here! Feels like they really have your back on getting you back out on the road. New turbo, catalytic converter, tune up, battery and various hoses etc. all done recently to get my check engine light off on my Audi. Hopefully for a good amount of time... Vroom vroom!
