I love a coffee shop that has allocated enough seated spaces for patrons. There are three zoned rooms with plenty of seating for the large crowds flocking to this beautiful place.Espresso coffee is great, service is friendly, and they have a sweet vegan option (donuts in 2 flavors).Weekends it starts to get busy right around 9am. For those looking for seats, head towards the back past the counter.
Communal is an AMAZING place to get some coffee and has an enormous amount of space to sit and work. Despite this it can be pretty crowded but I don’t think that should stop you from visiting. It’s easily once of your favorite places for coffee in the San Diego area and I highly recommend it to anyone that loves coffee. We will certainly be back.Order: I didn’t get our exact order but the prices were in line with what you would expect.Review: Communal Coffee was our last cafe of the day and it seems like we may have saved the winner for last. Communal is a huge cafe that is crammed with seating both inside and outside and styled like a flower shop. They have a large collection of oddities for sale in addition or coffee and just next door is a full flower shop. This really lends a very creative, whimsical, natural air to the entire cafe and I absolutely loved it.We started by ordering an espresso and tonic, then later got a pour over and a cappuccino, and finally got a seasonal latte to go. Every single one was fantastic; and I genuinely don’t know what I would call out that they should do better. The staff was friendly, the service was quick, the coffee was amazing, and the space was wonderful. I suppose they only negative we encountered the entire time was that while it was pretty easy to find a table, it was very challenging to find an open table near an electrical outlet to charge our computers.Overall I think Communal is one of our two “must visit” cafe’s in the San Diego area, so, you know; go visit them.
For a little more than the price of a standard latte, Communal Coffee offers tasting flights ft. creative flavors like lemon almond, honey lavender, vanilla rose, and more. My partner and I enjoyed the tasting, especially since the shop is so cute, and we’re huge plant nerds so we appreciated having the plant nursery right next door. This is a great date spot but has plenty of room for reading. Highly recommend!
Very nice but rather difficult to find parking - so park a couple blocks away and get out and stroll da hood. Very coffee shop next door to a garden shop. Popular North Park neighborhood with charming homes and real sidewalks. I like the comfy couches and arm chairs - more mom and pop feel than Starbucks.
Short version: You should try this place, its awesome.Long version: This shop is a fantastic spot all around. The Coffee options (of which there are a myriad) are smooth, lightly sweet and always delicious while the food has that fresh, homemade flavor. Couple that with informative staff and an incredibly cute shop and youve got a winner. Try the lavender chocolate if you can and peruse the almost random collection of knick-knacks, treats and personal care items. Theyre also a florist, so youll be tempted by beautiful bouquets and arrangements for that person in your life (or yourself, cause you deserve a treat). This will definitely be a regular stop for me whenever Im in town. Give it a try!
Good coffee and Service has improved 100% since the last 3 years. I enjoy going now. Im a local who lives 1 block away and go to support my local businesses even tho I love making my own ☕ . Good Vibes.
Ive been coming here for years and its one of my favorite spots to work for hours. I really appreciate their expanded menu since the pandemic. Its a super cute and trendy spot. Very bright and airy. It can get really busy so be prepared to wait (but its worth it!). I find the staff to always be friendly and cheery with one exception. (which is why I took a star off) There is a man who runs the food. The last three times hes delivered my food it comes with a snarky comment about how I didnt put my number is a great spot. (including a time I was sitting at the bar and I dont really know where else hed like me to put it?). Ive also seen him just kind of slam the food down on someone elses table. He just seems to be irritated to be here. I definitely recognize him, hes been here for years but it just seems like maybe somethings going on? Not sure, but its definitely been affecting my experience the last few times.
Such a cute little place. Obviously very popular as it was very busy. They have a lot more seating than I thought at first but it was all taken inside, a lot by working people staying for great lengths of time, so we had to sit at an outdoor table in the heat. Still, we enjoyed our time there and then enjoyed browsing the little artisan items and plant shop. Id definitely go again but try to find a less busy time to avoid long bathroom lines and no available indoor seating.
I LOVE this place but it not for everyone. Great drinks, great menu, the staff is awesome, and the atmosphere is amazing. Bring someone out of town that is expecting Starbucks and they dont always feel the menu. I myself have brought a few non locals and seen others come in with that complaint but they just arent open to trying something new I suppose. For everyone else this place is a jewel and I love their seasonal menus (even though I end up missing my faves when they do). They also sell great merchandise, ranging from jewelry and nail polish to body wash, air freshener, baby toys and specialized kitchen ware. Try the Lattes iced, yum!
I had just coffee which was really good. It’s cute café with the floral shop at the same place “ Coffee|Food|Flower” concept. If you are in Downtown you should stop by.
Good coffee and decent food. Very cute inside. I came in today to do some work. I had to change tables a couple of times because the temperature was 86° inside (via the thermostat) and the sun kept hitting where I was seated. There is no AC or fans. Bummed, I left because I couldnt concentrate. Cute place, but not the best during hot summer days to work.
Yes the shop is pretty and the food aesthetically pleasing, but I had a problem with this shop and it’s that almost none of the staff members handling food and/or drinks had their hair up, they were all wearing there hair down which is a food health and safety violation. But i could be wrong I mean, I’ve only ever taken 3 years of culinary and management classes. So what do I know?
I can make a great latte at home, but I really love the lattes here so I make special trips to get them! Staff is nice and ambiance is calming...
I love this place. Beautiful green plants everywhere. The coffee is always amazing. Love the chocolate lavender donuts. I wholeheartedly recommend this coffee shop.
Very delicious hot chocolate and avocado toast! Super healthy for my and my growing baby
My go-to coffee spot. The drinks, food, flowers, shop (especially their greeting card selection), everything is amazing. Theres something on the menu for everyone here!Aside from the place itself, I also really appreciate their online ordering system. Its is so easy to use, it provides options for any modifications you could possibly want, and it saves so much time so you dont have to stand in line to order. The only downside is how difficult it is to find parking if youre driving there, but its worth it anyway!
Visited communal coffee during our visit to San Diego a few weeks ago and we loved Communal Coffee. Their menu is very broad, you will find something for everybody here. We ordered the matcha latte and the pastries and they were delicious. The matcha latte was made to perfection; not overly sweet; you can taste the quality of the matcha and milk that they use here.We also noticed that they sell flowers on the other side of the bar, which is pretty unique. If I lived in San Diego, I would definitely be buying some fresh flowers while getting my breakfast. It does get pretty crowded during the weekend, we were lucky enough to find a table inside, but they offer both outdoor and indoor seating. For parking, we ended up parking at the Smart and Final parking lot down the street. If you are in the San Diego area, highly recommend checking out Communal Coffee. You wont regret it!
The ambiance and vibe here are super fun. Its combined with a botanical shop next door. Theres a lot of seating options: mini-couches, countertop stools, tables and chairs, and a cute outdoor seating area covered in plants. We had trouble finding a seat because there seemed to be so many students there doing work on their laptops. I tried the sweet mint cream cold brew. It was a little odd. Something about it wasnt quite what I expected, but I do appreciate that they apparently make their own syrup for it. My girlfriend got the lavender laté and loved every sip.
I adore this place. Very chill and relaxing place to hang out with friends and enjoy a tasty cup of coffee.
Great bakery and coffee. I love that this cafe is connected to a florist nursery so the interior is very beautiful and elegant. Nothing like flowers and nice coffee make you happy:) Even though this cafe is very spacious with lots of comfy seatings, it can get very busy, so try to come early if you want a place to sit.
This place is just pure amazingness. I love, love and love Communal Coffee. It has quickly grown to being one of my favorite coffee shops ever. North Park, yall did yourself a solid with this gem.The entire vibe, aesthetics and community is just awesome. Awesome coffee. Delicious food. Yup, the food is 5/5. Great staff. Friendly patrons. If youre looking to grab a quick bite or coffee with a friend, theres a ton of space. If youre looking to work remotely, or get some studying done, yup, the vibe will suit you just fine.Communal Coffee, thank you so much for existing. I always leave this place happy, refreshed and just in an overall positive mood. The generous amount of light, incredibly spacious interior and abundant seating throughout the building (and outside) definitely helps.
What a friendly and warm space. Its effortlessly hip, but in a way that even a total square mini van driving Dad like me felt welcome and loved. Coffee is phenomenal, staff is even better. This place rocks.
This place has the most peacefully productive atmosphere, I loved it! Stopped in to fire off some emails and get coffee, ended up getting a floral latte flight, gluten free lavender chocolate donut, and people watching for a couple hours.Loved sitting at the bar and watching the incredible amount of work the florist put into the arrangement she was working on.Coffee was very inspired in flavor, but I wouldnt order the rose latte again. Chocolate lavender donut was a little heavy on the glaze, but pretty good texture. I definitely think this place is cool but there is a lot going on in there - both busy with people and busy with two businesses operating in one space, lot of products all around to bump into.
I love this little coffee shop! When I come to San Diego to visit my daughter we come here. Cute, unique gifts to buy and beautiful flowers. You can either purchase an arrangement or have one made from flowers you choose. I usually get the lavender honey latte, it is very unique, not to sweet. Lots of good pastries also.
Its just a block away from this welcoming coffee shop. At school, the atmosphere is friendlier and more student-centered. Since it provides more elegant breakfast, lunch, and dinner dining options, Ill refer to it as the nearby Starbucks. The interior is cramped but well-designed, with a small band of patio chairs. Ill be back for sure!
Such a cute place! I’ve been here a few times and I finally had some food this time. I tried this toast with goat cheese, honey and lavender expecting it to be totally weird but it was not at all!! It was surprisingly delicious and I will definitely come back for more. The environment is so fun which is a big reason for going too.
It was a joy to receive an excellent sandwich and a good cup of coffee in such a congested location. The ambience in the café is both relaxing and enjoyable.
What an adorable place! The Nursery next to it had wonderful plants, the coffee shop was delicious, my kids loved the chocolate lavender donuts 🍩, and the trinkets and flowers were gorgeous 😍♥
Excellent, smooth iced mocha; laid back friendly vibes. Great place to chill.
Ok near and dear to me! My very own marky numbers( insta) and everyone else, all the employees are awesome! Very hip, relaxed, setting! Great coffee, chai, food, plants, flowers, and gifts! I love it! 💕
Nice inside, cute merchandise. I just have to say they need another person to make the coffee, a little to slow there. Kind of makes you go elsewhere.
The place is nice. Its quiet most of the time. The pricing is a bit high ($4+ for cold brew), however I feel youre paying for the ambiance. As for service... You order your coffee then you pick it up 3-5 minutes later. Ive never had much of a need after that. Everyone is kind with positive attitudes. Theres only 1 bathroom which can pose a challenge if theres a line. Come try this place its definitely worth it.
I tasted your coffee last Friday afternoon and I was very so shocked because the taste was very delicious and I just want to order it again and again. Their staff was also very kind and professional. I can talk to them freely. What a nice service in the area! I will surely visit this coffee shop again and again!
Beautiful coffee shop! This is the kind of place you want to hang out at on purpose. Plan to get there early to make sure you get a cozy spot. The ambiance is a 5+, especially inside. Staff seem happy & friendly but expect slower service compared to your chain coffee shop. Last trip I hit a rush & it took 20 min for a bagel w/cream cheese. But it was mouth wateringly delicious dill cream cheese, which made it more palatable. I wasnt hungry enough to pay $7+ for basic avocado toast. They have a fun little gift shop thats very pricey. Beware, because with the wait you may end up buying a $12 wiener dog lapel pin out of a combination of boredom & mild interest 😄Gorgeous flowers & romantic tones of sage green, dusty pink/mauve & yellow/straw/marigold + reed/straw & tapestry make this space warm, welcoming & nostalgic. Outdoor space increases the awesomeness.Parking is not friendly here. Best of luck.Ambience/Feel = 5+People/Service = 4+Food/value = 4-Uniqueness = 4-Experience = 5
Amazing Coffee. I came two days in a row for the Iced Americano. Very smooth taste. Cute store and atmosphere. I do however wish the staff were a little friendlier, both times we were ignored while waiting in line and had to literally wave to get the staff to take out order at the counter. The great coffee made up for that though.
Coffee & food was amazing. Inside is charming, decorations stand out and full of cute merch items! Some of the baristas/employees arent friendly though, haughty attitude. Other than that 🙌🏽
The coffee is fantastic!!! The service is fantastic!!! The meal is adequate. Its a lovely small place, and the coffee is very delicious.
This coffee shop just stocks the worlds best coffee beans! This is one of my favorite coffees because it meets or exceeds my standards every time! Im ecstatic to have found this coffee shop! I wholeheartedly recommend this coffee shop!!
Very helpful and kind staff on my visit. The woman in the floral section took time to make one of the holiday specialty gift boxes for me that had sold out, which was MUCH appreciated! The components of the box were top notch, wonderful quality - all from France - and most tasty. Lastly, they were offering a very nice promotion in which I received a free drink of my choice. A-1 in ALL regards!
I will surely drop by here again! Im so thankful that finally, I was able to find this spot for some good coffee just in time. The atmosphere inside this coffee shop was very vibrant and relaxing. I will definitely rate them a five-star for everything that they provided. Truly amazing! Thank you so much, guys!
Very nice and calming atmosphere. I love the mint mango chia pudding.
This was a cool find for me and my wife. The avocado toast is a must try and definitely add the prosciutto and egg with the kombucha that they have on tap. Also we tried the smoked salmon bagel which is exactly how everyday should start. And as you wait its really cool that they have a large variety of things you can check out that are for sale. Cant wait to go back and try something different from there menu
Good coffee. Little expensive. Nice ambiance for seating.
The ambiance is very cool and young. The serving is good and worth sharing at a very affordable price. We felt very comfortable here, the best place for relaxation. In addition, the staff is all great and exceptional. I will definitely revisit this place ion the future.
I love this little north park gem. everything from the service, the quality, and the aesthetic is amazing!
The staff is always so friendly. I came to visit this coffee shop often. I just enjoy to read and enjoy great coffee and amazing delicious smoothies. The best in town. The server that works there is a great coffee maker and is incredibly friendly. Definitely recommend!
A little pricy but definitely worth it! The lavender honey latte is my favorite.
Wonderful selection of espressos and not coffees. 🍵 lemonade 😋
Great cappuccino, super cute design. Almond croissant was not fresh though
Nice place. Gets crowded
When it comes to cozy vibes, this coffee store nailed it. Comfy sofas, beds, and plants are everywhere. The staves are good and the overall atmosphere is great. The workers were all very helpful and personable. Their coffee is fantastic and its one of a kind. To all coffee addicts, I highly recommend this place.
Great coffee, so beautiful, such friendly baristas! Amazing local coffee store that seems to really care about the community
Visiting friends nearby and this has been my everyday cafe. Love everything about it.
Spacious, good vibe and great coffee.
This used to be a great place to get a bite and a coffee. Nowadays you have to spend 40 minutes or more in line, the quality of the food and beverage is very up and down, and the food prices have gone up more than 50% in three years.
The only thing that needs to be said about this place is that youre already missing out because youre not here yet.1. Endless Instagram photo ops so all your friends can see how trendy you are.2. Delicious and high quality coffee to bring out the inner connoisseur in you.3. Flowers, because theyre pretty, like you. And you deserve to surround yourself in like-company.4. Ultimate validation that yes, you are this cool, and no, you didnt run here after reading this review.#blessup and #drinkup
The tempo is relaxed for small or solo bands. The local feel of the city. Healthy parking for cars. Excellent coffee. I hadnt seen a great spot in the neighborhood before.
I am a coffee lover, thus I am so picky about it. When I tasted their coffee here, I was so amazed for it has a good mix of flavor. The next day, I invited my friends, and I also brought my parents here. If you enjoy reading books while having a cup of coffee, and they have more interesting books here!
Great decor, love Sightglass coffee, friendly baristas
Not gonna lie,a bit pricey but, super tasty toasts and great drinks.
I don’t know, maybe because it’s a hipster vibe but the girls at the cash register are always so spaced out and have no real sense of customer service. It’s “good enough” not a terrible place but the line always takes so long (been here 3 times in the morning) and when they take your order it’s extremely slow and sometimes still get the wrong stuff to you. No one really greets you when it’s your turn to buy there’s no “hey how’s it going, how’s your day today? What can I help you with?” It’s just odd. You get to the front of the line and they sorta just stand there waiting for you to order and once you’ve ordered they don’t say “ok awesome, your drinks will be picked up here at the bar and you can take the number and someone will come find you for your food, have a great day” once again, they sorta just hand you the number and stand there. It’s just weird. I mostly come for the pastries but I found the girl that sells them on Instagram so that takes care of that. @relic bread if anyone is interested. So like I said, not terrible service but definitely room for improvement but could be because it’s just how hipster places operate, I’m not sure.
Good coffee I must say I would have loved to sit inside but I was in a hurry, maybe next time very nice vibe.
Loved it! It isnt just a coffee.. it is a magical place where you can enjoy tasty food and drinks and while waiting there is this section with souvenirs and hand made bouquets by the employees.. there are also cards for every occasion.. the area outside in the back is very nice too, since you can enjoy the succulents from the place next door
Awesome coffee and bagels. Also they have like a ton of different avocado toasts if that is your jam. Coffee has that hand crafted taste and unique tastes.
