They quickly ran a diagnostic with my car and gave me a detailed evaluation with pictures showing what needed to be fixed. They are transparent with your vehicle’s maintenance needs and have amazing rates. And now my car works better than it has in years. I will definitely use their services again!

She also emailed me detailed diagnostic information and breakdown of parts and labor costs re: all the repairs that my sons 17-year-old car needed. She also patiently explained why certain repairs needed to be made, in order to properly maintain this car, so that it could last my son till at least the end of his senior year in college. My three year experience with Certified Auto Repair has been consistently favorable. They have serviced my 2015 Subaru Outback and a remarkably clean 1994 Volvo 740. They stand by their work and do only what is necessary, which is unusual these days. They are personable and provide a loaner car or a ride whenever needed, too.

It’s always difficult to find a trustworthy mechanic and I have had my fair share of terrible mechanics. However, I’ve been using certified auto repair for two years now and have only had good experiences so far! They have been very friendly and thorough without doing unnecessary work. Our daughter spent a year living in San Luis Obispo which was here first time living away from home for an extended period of time. We shipped her car out to California for her to use during her time away. We feel so fortunate that she met the staff at Certified Auto when her car required some lovin. I’ve taken a couple of my cars for repairs to certified auto repair And they have done a very good job at a fair price. It was always pleasant to talk to Melissa, who is a great face for their business as she is usually the point person to interact with the customers (at least she was for me). One of my cars had an issue with the antenna, after it was repaired a new issue came up. They were happy to get everything fixed right. I’ll definitely take my cars there again

They really have gone beyond which I think is fantastic! I was there just for a regular oil change but they also examined my car and sent me a very detailed report. They also gave me a voucher because the process was delayed which I think it is very nice of them. Great place, will come back!

Came in for an oil change and a light replacement,Left with a full analysis of my cars health and what needs to be monitored.Greatly appreciated it along with the friendly staff, cute dog, and their dedication.Even when it was near closing and I asked about the electrical, they took the time to work on it anyways and make it free of charge.Good wholesome company, would go for all my oil change (every 5th ones free!)

This crew is always really impressive! I feel really well taken care of every time I go in and feel I can trust them with whatever we need.

They deserve 5 stars on their trustworthiness alone. I went in because my oil change/filter light was on but they realized they just needed to recalibrate something and did a free safety inspection to make sure. Easily could have made a quick buck off of an unsuspecting young adult but instead quickly let me know the issue. They also give me 10% off labor for being a college student but I think their cost is fair even if I didnt have the discount. I have been going here twice a year for at least 2.5 years and dropping my car off and checking out a coffee shop downtown is still one of my favorite things to do.*EDIT: Forgot to mention, they also once took the time to teach me how to check my tire pressure which I think says a lot about the type of people that work here. Going to them for car help is like having a dad away from home.

Management (Melissa & Izzak) was friendly & accommodating. They made us feel welcome & concerned. We were on vacation from out of town with a car problem. Not only were they honest with the reality of their tight schedule but they reassured us that they would do their best to help us. Melissa gave us a quick overview of the area and recommended a nice place to eat (Guisepi’s)and stay nearby overnight (Ave. Inn). Our car was fixed by 12:00 noon the following day. The mechanic who fixed our car did a great job (very thorough with even a video of the problem found). Great service better than going to the dealership. Izzak also recommended for us to pass by Bob’s Well Bread on our way home which was an awesome pitstop for us. They were a pleasure to speak with & we are very grateful! I’ve mostly interacted with Sam and Melissa, but this shop is great. Everyone is very knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and honest. They are thorough with their 5000 mile checkup/oil change service and I always get a good idea of what kind of maintenance I may need down the line and also be willing to explain my options. Recommend going to these guys for any of your auto needs.

Just did another oil change with Certified Auto Repair on my 2006 Tacoma. These guys are great, theyll send you a text message with photos of your vehicle and detailed information about every single aspect that they checked. They separate items a Good! Non-urgent concern and Urgent. Very helpful. Sam and the staff provide Great customer service as well!

I brought my 02 Sequoia in to Certified Auto Repair in SLO from Santa Maria, because I had heard these guys and girls provide the best service, and I was not disappointed. The staff stayed in contact with me the entire time my vehicle was in the shop, and the repairs were done really quickly, despite the 8 or so items that needed attention. On the drive home, it was like I was driving a brand new vehicle. Thanks to Isaac, Sam, Melissa and everyone else. Hopefully the vehicle wont need anything for a little while, but if it does... Ill be back!

We are very lucky to have found Certified Auto. We have used them since moving to SLO a few years ago. They have consistently been great to work with, do a great job diagnosing issues, and repair problems right at fair prices. Even more important, since we have an older car and rely on it for long trips, their comprehensive inspection and reporting on any concerns keeps us feeling confident when we are on the road. It is nice to have found a place that can handle all of our cars needs, eliminating the need to go to an overpriced dealer. We have recommended Certified to friends and they have also been very happy with their experience.

I’ve been taking my Toyota’s to Certified for 10 years and they have consistently provided me with good service and great prices. Your quality of work is easily equal to that of the dealership and much less expensive. And one can usually get an appointment same day. I highly recommend them.

I gave four stars this time because I did not get a call back as I should have. That has not been my experience in the past. I used to do all the work on my cars myself. Timing belts, alternator rebuilds, replace head gaskets, replace V8 heads with reconditioned heads, etc. So, I respect the honest expertise this company exhibits in the dealings I have had with them. They will get five stars next time because they wont forget to call me.

I am always so nervous to go to mechanics because I know nothing about cars and I thought this repair was going to be very expensive! It turned out my battery was installed incorrectly and the repair costed basically nothing. I was so thankful! They also treated me incredibly fairly and talked to me reasonably about the problems I was having with my car. I love that women work there. It is very comforting at a mechanic shop!

Had a great experience with Sam, Isaac, and all of the Technicians at Certified Auto Repair of SLO! The clear consistent communication was on another level, and greatly appreciated. As with doctors, a good ‘bedside manner’ is a really important trait in a mechanic. The diagnostic analysis and explanation of everything going on with my vehicle really helped me feel secure, and of course they do good work too. Breaking down while on the road in the midst of a pandemic far from home is no fun, but these guys helped me get through it. Highly recommended!

Just had a routine oil change done at Certified Auto Repair, they were able to slip me in to their schedule on very short notice and they are now providing a Digital Inspection where they provide routine safety inspections on around 20 items. They even rotate your tires with a simple oil change and lube.Great service, I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dependable and extremely honest repair facility !

Always helpful, punctual and most importantly honest. The goal with my vehicle is to keep it running for as long as possible. With 180,000 mile on my Chevy Tahoe the front end was definitely due for some rehab. Sam at Certified Auto Repair worked with me to develop a preventive maintenance/repair plan for my front end and suspension that we split up into three separate visits over 2 month. I completed my last appointment this past Friday and my Chevy Tahoe feels like a brand new vehicle. Will definitely keep doing business with Certified Auto Repair.

This is where I take my Toyota Tacoma. These guys really know Toyotas, and they’re very honest, and reasonable. My vehicle had some issues which they corrected for very reasonable price. My vehicle was raining very rough, they could’ve sold me new struts and shocks, Instead Sam drove my vehicle, adjusted the tire pressure, and smoothed out the ride. That save me over $1000. They also gave me a coupon for a free oil change. These guys are awesome. Honest, competent and friendly.

Highly recommend. Our 1998 Honda Accord is pushing 250,000 miles and is running really well thanks to the guys at Certified! They are.friendly, detail oriented and see and make recommendations for small problems before they become big ones. The detailed electronic summary of work done, complete with photos, is superb! This was the first time Ive used C.A.R., that being said, I was pleased with their service. Brought in my own purchased spark plugs, which they installed for me (I was lacking the tools to put them in myself). There was a mix up on my appointment date, but they managed to get me on my scheduled date. I certainly would use their services again. Friendly staff and shop mascot.

Took excellent care of my vehicle. Standard oil change, which they found I also needed spark plugs and the valve gasket cover replaced. Was smelling burning oil and brought it back in, they fixed it up and got it back to me quickly. Cannot recommend them more. Such an excellent experience!

This was my first time bringing my vehicle to Certified Auto but they treated me like I was their number 1 customer. My car was under warranty, Issac was awesome at getting answers from the warranty company and relaying that information to me in a timely manner. I just need to write this out, because along with all the other reviews of this diamond in the rough business are simply not enough. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado that has thrown almost every problem it possibly could at me over the last 5-6 years (knock on wood). I can confidently say that I have visited every mechanic in SLO and never found a mechanic that I felt comfortable with- I always had a nagging feeling that I was being ripped off, or work wasnt being done correctly, etc. I was convinced that this town was simply full of mechanics who do whatever they want and prey on the Cal Poly kids with Mom & Dads money. That is, until I found Certified Auto Repair. In my unending search for a mechanic to call mine, I tried them out when my truck needed a high mileage oil change. Im not comfortable doing it myself due to the fact that a different local mechanic had crossthreaded my oil plug, then turned around and told me that I needed a new oil pan, and that they could do that for me in the neighborhood of $1700. Certified Auto Repair manages that situation by carefully utilizing an oversized plug, and always takes into consideration my conservative budget. They do agree that my oil pan will need to be replaced, but their willingness to continue allowing ME to make the decision to roll with the oversized plug is huge to me- theyre not trying to force an upsell or make me do something that is costly, and avoidable for the time being. They do a great job of explaining what COULD happen, and Im well aware, but its my decision- and they respect it. HUGE SHOUTOUT to Max, hes not only a heck of a mechanic, but his customer service skills are superb. He always goes out of his way to please. Thank you Max!Lastly, in terms of their prices, theyre fair and reasonable- and ALWAYS thoroughly explained. In fact, that oil pan quote I received from the other mechanic was over DOUBLE what certified auto quoted, and when Im ready to make that fix, theres no other mechanic Ill be going to, Ive found my mechanic!

Certified Auto was very accommodating of my unusual schedule and finished the work on my car on time. Their online portal allows me to see pictures of the damage to the underside of my car and I now have notes I can refer back to if/when I need future repairs. I highly recommend Isaac, Sam and the entire CAR team and will likely return again in the future!

Certified Auto does a fantastic job! I have been going to them in my time at Cal Poly and they are always super helpful and do a great job. I had to get a new driveshaft put in my 2005 Subaru and they got the part ordered, installed, and running beautifully again in under a day.

The workers were very personable and helpful. They were able to fix a loud squealing noise that many other shops in town have not been unable to fix for the past year. So thankful!

Nick the owner is friendly and professional. Ive found him on Yelp because my other auto shop was busy. Although his shop was busy as well, he was able to fit me in for an oil change and tire rotation. I was in and out within 20 minutes.

They managed to get me in same day for a diagnostic, found the problem, offered the parts and did the (not insubstantial) repair by the end of the next day. Very clear on what a services were necessary and what could be put off, no pressure to do more work. Cheaper than the dealer; perhaps not the cheapest in town but trustworthy and very quick turn around.

Ive brought my car into Certified Auto a few times since moving to SLO. Each time, the quote that they give me and the price I end up paying are the same. Turnaround time has been excellent on all my visits. Quality of work is high, and their team is super friendly.

These guys were so easy to work with! They know good customer service. Each person I spoke to, mainly Don, was very nice over the phone, they explained everything and were very thorough in making sure they made the correct diagnosis. They let me drop my car off after hours, and were able to help me process what I owed them and get my car back to me, ISSUE SOLVED, and pick my car up after they closed that same day because I work past the time they close. They didnt rip me off either. Very fair pricing. They definitely have me as a returning customer if I need anything else done.

I’ve been driving a pretty worn down car, and when I took it over to certified auto repair, after their inspection they told me start up that I shouldn’t put anymore money into that car, because it wasn’t worth it. Thanks to them my dad is finally willing to buy me a new car! You gotta listen to people when they don’t want to take your money, my dad said.

I came in last week because I had an oil leak and wasnt sure where it was coming from. Certified Auto Repair quickly found out what was causing the leak, fixed it for me, and cleaned up the oil that had started to coat the bottom of my car.
