The best atmosphere of any coffee shop Ive been too. I enjoyed the Chai Latte too. I definitely recommend stopping by this spot whenever you can. The interior is very homely and welcoming. Perhaps not enough meal options however. It is better for a snack and a coffee than anything else.
This place is right off of hw1. Really easy to get to. But is quiet and secluded. The place is huge including a well tended garden with seating. They serve leaf tea. Great to while away time.
Cozy café. Typical prices. Very friendly staff. They stock a selection of items from local creators and artists
Large interior space, cozy and inviting. Good coffee
Friendly staff and yummy treats. Thank you!
Lovely ambiance inside, neat art for sale as well. I bet not during a pandemic it is even better. Pleasant outdoor, sheltered seating. I ordered a cup of soul which is just steamed milk with your choice of several teas. It was a lovely temperature but maybe due to my choice of teas, rather blah. A nice spot though. Ample parking, friendly service.
I absolutely adore this shop! The coffee is divine, and the food is made with love. All of the baristas are so friendly and welcoming. Everyone needs to make this their go-to coffee spot.
Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The drinks were delicious, but you will okay a little more for that. However, you get what you pay for. My only complaint was there were not very many others, but they have extenders; therefore, I am not taking off a star. I highly recommend this place and will go back.
One of the best if not THE best coffee place in Santa Cruz. Cold brew is phenomenal, and the environment is great for studying or having a relaxed get together with friends.
Amazing atmosphere, the god the people, the energy…. Amazing
Get the Gibraltar! You won’t look back! This is a really fun place and great for studying. A lot of seating which i feel like most coffee shops lack in. The people are friendly and kind. It’s also great for relaxing at after spending the day at the boardwalk. Everyone interested in trying new coffee shops should stop by.
This place is so amazing
Best cofee in Santa Cruz, really friendly staff, the manager is the best
Super cute spot! Lovely decorations, comfy chairs, big tables. Lots of room. No AC, but was pleasant enough with the windows and doors open. Decent food, good prices, good drinks. One of my favorite spots in town. Very chill vibe.
Good coffee, great cozy artsy sweet venue, lovely music, very nice kids working here, and an inviting patio.
Great staff serving great coffee.
Vibe is amazing. Drinks are creative. We come here a few times a month to sit in the garden with our 3 toddlers. And we often get them the oatmeal to share and the turkey cranberry panini which is delicious. But avoid the bagels. We decided to switch it up and we got an everything bagel and a raisin bagel. And we ordered for the sides Hummus, peanut butter, and cream cheese. The bagels are terrible! Hard and dry. None of us could even eat them except for picking soft parts out of the middle. The peanut butter they serve is not spreadable and too thick. And the hummus was frozen. Literally frozen.Definitely go to this spot its worth hanging out in period stick to the drinks. Sometimes my panini comes out cold. Not very consistent.
Great service, atmosphere and (most importantly) coffee. Highly recommended.
Cute coffee place with a nice courtyard
Locals and students from UCSC come here for coffee and quick bites. They have a special coffee menu but theres no description of whats in the drink. I got a large green tea latte and apple cinnamon scone and headed to their enclosed patio. Theres plenty of indoor seating with outlets for laptops but who could pass up a nice sunny day. Other students are studying, a lady with her dog, and the rest of us enjoying some quiet time. Service is quick and friendly.
This coffee shop reflects the sign of the times here in Santa Cruz; catering to the high profit dollars of UCSC students...who usually but not always leave town (or as alumni stage a Sit In and reside in a redwood Grove of about 5-7 trees for 9 months to save them from being cut down to build a parking lot on campus). Mommy and Daddy must be so proud :)
The stuff are so friendly and I love the energy of the place and I love that they sell art from a few different locals.I like looking through the prince and the stickers and the various items for sale that were made by different locals while Im waiting for my coffee.
The staff were so chill and friendly. I really appreciated when I mistakenly ordered a drink with milk and they remade it for me with coconut milk, no problem. The Abbey is connected to a church so on Sundays, a lot of smiling, happy, loving people walk through and you can hear the church music. I took photos of the outside table because it was so beautiful. Love the atmosphere. A collection of mirrors against the back wall helps make the coffee shop feel even bigger than it is. Great experience to meet with a friend.
I really love their music choices for the ambiance, it fit the space very well. Its very open and comfy. I did not find their mocha to be very chocolatey but I enjoyed their chai bowl of soul. Very nice place to study, do homework, or catch up with a friend. Their chicken and pesto panini was very very good!
Definitely a great spot to grab a beverage (and maybe a small bite) and just talk, study, or chill. We usually stop by whenever we are in Santa Cruz for a visit. They have plenty of comfortable seating inside, as well as some outside choices in a walled patio area. Live music is available at specific times. They pride themselves on appropriate sourcing of their product and make their beverages with care. Dont hesitate to try this spot out.
Unique coffee place with an amazing vintage decor and spacious seating. Coffee was amazing too. Wish I could give more than 5 stars.
Nice cozy atmosphere. Coffee is good and staff is great. Nothing really to complain about here.
I love the Abbey with its unique style and warm hearted staff. Its a great place to sit outside on the side porch and read or be inspired to write something beautiful. There are plenty of places to plug in your tools of your trade. Plus its got amazing coffee, food, and teas that help you relax and enjoy the space. Its eclectic and uniquely furnished with some fun places to snuggle in for a good chat or silently surf the web.
Casual place lots of younger people. Students hanging out good energy
I get coffee here every Morning and i love it! Great people. Great atmosphere. 10 Stars
This place is often packed with students studying and difficult to find a good spot to sit inside. Lots of seating including outdoors which is never full but hard to find outlets to plug into. I also come here to study or work on my computer. Run by a church and uses one of their buildings converted for this purpose. Im not a major coffee person so dont really care what coffee drinks they have. They also sell pastries and some food, and have a stage with performances sometimes.
Really cozy with good coffee, good tea, and a decent selection of light bites. The coconut berry scone is amazing. I still wish theyd bring back the superior Verve coffee though!
Nice place to have a cup of coffee. A little too religious for my likes.
This place prides its self on its customer service, its ability to develop relationally, and its fine product. The baristas enjoy sharing the knowledge of brewing that great tasting berry or buttery caramel flavored coffee pulls. I enjoy the artwork they display in their shop as well. It seems to change monthly. Some prime musical groups have also played at this spot. Couldnt tell you the names, unfortunately, but great sound and talent seems to like to roll through this homey coffee shop. This place is so comfortable. One gripe, I wish they had longer hours of operation.
Amazing spot, hidden by the entrance of highway 1 in a book of Santa Cruz. This little coffee shop offers comfortable couches for seating, and spacious areas for studying. Plenty of outlets too! Ive recommended this place to friends before who are looking for a new place to nerd out in SC :)
Great coffee and people. Just make sure youre not in a rush.
The Abbey has a good variety drinks with fast service. There are a lot of tables for studying and hanging out and there is usually always an open table to sit at. It is a very warm and comfortable coffee shop and the workers are very kind.
Fabulous independent coffee house w attentive service and all sorts of seating that feels like home
Hands down best coffee shop Santa Cruz award.
Best barista in town, sam!!!!!
Great place to meet with friends.Maybe you could have more smack food to go along with your coffee. I suggest you lower the price of your pastries and have a larger selection. Just an idea / suggestion.
Great place to study and great coffee! Only reason I give 4 starts is the WiFi is sketchy occasionally, which makes it difficult when studying. Other than that, totally chill place with a great vibe.
I cant believe Ive lived here for so long and didnt know this place existed. The place has an incredible decor, great vibe, and kind employees. Parking can be rough but not usually. Check it out!
This coffee shop has good vibes, and their drinks are excellent. When I seriously need a kick, I buy the dancing goat. Its a red-eye (I believe) with a better name.
Cool coffee shop ajacent to the church. Beautiful outdoor space and large cozy indoor space. A bit pricey but nice.
Food is wonderful and friendly staff providing fast service. The Abbey provides a cozy study environment and a friendly coffee hangout for all ages.
Strong coffee! Interesting spins on your classic latte like the honey badger. Rotating art. Quirky interior and splendid outdoor seating.
Great place for a coffee or tea. Large indoor area was perfect for studying or hanging out with a 2 year old. Often forget this place cause its a little out of my way - yeah, its in an old church building.
Comfortable, relatively quiet, and spacious. Most of the tables are easily wheelchair accessible. I enjoyed my chai latte and jalapeño bagel with cream cheese. There was ample free off-street parking.
This is one of my favorite places to drink coffee. The atmosphere is chill and eclectic. The coffee is amazing and the people there are super cool. The place has a great vibe and I go there almost everytime Im in Santa Cruz. Theres music nights and other events happening year round but for the most part just a chill place. Great for studying and hanging with friends.
Yummy treats. Great breakfast burritos
I love the Abbey but have two suggestions for them. One: a little more lighting in the darker areas and two I just dont like the verve coffee or whatever light or medium roast they have. I like a dark roast. I actually dont go there sometimes because I dont like the taste of their coffee and espresso drinks. But I love the staff and the environment. I do go there for tea!
Nice vibe and cool connection to faith? Coffee was great 👌
YES!!!! I havent been able to make it back here in years and was able to stop by today and found out they serve Chromatic Coffee!! Delicious coffee, my favorites the Honey Badger and their Cold Brew! Highly Recommend!!
Nice spot. Clean, cozy café with very unique beverages (highly recommend honey badger) and a fun little gift shop. Bathrooms are well-kept, staff is friendly and efficient. The décor is warm and inviting, with plenty of plush sofas and open space between tables. The only possible issue for some folks is that The Abbey has a lot of this new Santa Cruz vibe and clientele that I dont know how I feel about yet. But this is not a reflection of the coffee shop, just something Id point out in case OG Santa Cruz folk walk in expecting this to be like old-time SC.Would definitely be back the next time Im in town.
This place is so cute! I loved the atmosphere & everyone was so helpful in making sure I had something I enjoyed! Highly recommend this place!
The Abbey has a really good selection of coffee and teas and many tables for either studying or relaxing. Even during the busy times, it seems like there are always available seating.
Nice coffee shop. Outdoor seating available. Pets welcome.
The service was very helpful and welcoming. Prices are reasonable I would say.
My favorite coffee shop in town. Nice, welcoming, big, good products, amazing patio, and nice folks. I recommend it!
Excellent place to relax with a tea or coffee and read. The outdoor area is excellent onbwarm days. The place does fill up with UCSC students, but its quiet like a library.
Great cafe to hang out in or get some work done. Very cozy interior space, and nice outdoor space too.
Fun little coffee spot with internet access, chill music, local artwork, and lots of pastry options. A number of drinks options as well as some bottles and canned things like kombucha and Yerba mate. It’s a good spot to study but a bit noisy. All in all pretty food
Im an atheist but the coffees good and the covfefe aint half bad-
Super cool little coffee shop. Good coffee, tea, and pastries and nice seating to get some work done or meet with friends.
Good place to study but pretty expensive coffee.
A very large coffee shop in which you are almost guaranteed a seat. So many people on the Wi-Fi makes it a little slow but most wouldnt notice. The coffee is good. The people are very friendly.
Awesome coffee shop. Probably the best in santa cruz with amazing caring people
Very cozy place with delicious drinks)
The food was tasty. Looking forward to a return visit.
The atmosphere is chill. The coffee is hot. The Honey Badger I purchased there is the best cup of coffee I have had. Thank you.
The Abby its my favorite work spot in Santa Cruz. Its quiet, reasonably priced, had great parking, and they have power outlets.
The service is good, the atmosphere is the best out of all coffee shops in santa Cruz, food & drinks are Awsome! Wish they had more vegetarian/vegan options. But overall pretty great place!!!
Great drinks, friendly staff, and abundant seating next to wall sockets (with free wifi). What more could you want out of a coffee shop?
Despite being located in a Christian church building, there arent any pushers or visible religious references in the sizable, cozy, and highly decorated coffee house. Typical cafe offerings such as espresso based drinks, tea, and assorted munchies are tasty and their prices wont break your bank.
Great service and smile from the young lady behind the counter
Good, basic food you would expect at a Cafe.
Lovely setting, pleasant service, good selections. Calm and interesting!
I asked for a toast plate, I got it in a bag instead of on a plate, when I asked why she goes We are out of plates, No apologies, rude tone. The butter by the way was hard as a rock
Great place, yummy sandwich and nice gentle music
Great place...if you like Christian contemporary music
Its a such pretty coffee shop, so nice and quiet
Really nice place.. i love the decoration
Awesome experience. We stayed at a little rental cottage up the street and wish we would have discovered this from Day 1. But, we did get to go about 3 mornings in a row.(I did read the previous post and must say I didnt feel any judgmental feelings while there. In fact, all I saw was love and customer service. And they played secular music, appropriate music, which is not always the case at Church Coffee lounges. But hey, everyone is entitled to their review. And mine is very positive.)The coffee was excellent. Service was friendly, though not what youd get at a speedy Starbucks or Peets. Nonetheless, it was pleasant and reasonable with clean tables and plenty of seating! And the facility / dining area is huge and open, with fantastic coffee drinks of all varieties and pretty decent food! Plenty of parking. And yay!... they have a public restroom. (That is NOT always the case downtown.)We did not come to the church or any church services... but I probably *would* in light of the way I was treated at the coffee house. If I return to Santa Cruz, I will be back to The Abbey Coffee Lounge!
Cozy with a lovely busy atmosphere & good coffee. Whats not to like :-)
The drinks and snacks are delicious. Great place to work or study.
Awesome spot. Great baristas and brew!
Great large open floor plan place to meet or study while having a cup of coffee/expresso drink and a light breakfast. Pre-prepared rolls, carrot bread, bagels, breakfast burritos, oatmeal. Large tables and wifi. Lots of students and causal business folk doing their laptop thing. Hidden away so only the locals know about it.
Sweet, cosy enviroment. Lots of parking,Great place to study, good for a small group meeting, and perfect for an intimate conversation.. yummy bowlofsoul tea, coffee & treats, oatmeal... plus.a few other protien type options. All round cool place ~ artist play music some nights as well.
