Excellent New Mexican food! I had the Chicken Enchiladas and my hubby had the Chicken Burrito. The green chilis were spicy, but not too hot. The Soppapaillas melted in your mouth. We ate out on the patio in the Plaza...so beautiful. A great meal for our last day in New Mexico. Oh, and staff was wonderful!
Our first visit was in 1994! Place was classic diner then and now they have upped their image! The place looks great!! Retro decor still but fresh and new! Server/crew uniforms are a nice touch.Food is as delicious as we remembered and we service was prompt and friendly!!Cream in the little pitcher was a great touch!
Original Diner atmosphere, complete with tin ceiling tiles. Everything on the menu comes with rave reviews. ♥️Authentic SW Huevos Rancheros. Try it christmas style to sample their red and green salsa.Excellent Bloody Mary with fun, creative garnishes. The blue corn/ pinion nut pancakes were delightful, served w/ delicate cinnamon syrup & orange peel infused butter.Be forewarned on windy cold days, you get a blast everytime the front door is opened.
My wife and I both ordered the beef enchiladas. Generous portions packed with flavor offered at very humble pricing. Service was great. Only reason for the four stars was the table outside sat on uneven foundation which caused our drinks to want to slide off the table during our meal. Other than that, would definitely recommend.
First time in Santa Fe and a burger sounded good. I ordered the Hatch green chili cheeseburger, and it was the best burger I’ve ever had! My wife also had a burger and said hers was phenomenal as well. Coupled with great service, the Plaza Cafe will be a must visit if I ever get back to the area!
Food was okay but nothing great, especially for the price. We also waited over an hour for our food when the server came back and asked us what we ordered again. I did enjoy the atmosphere tremendously but for the price and quality I probably wouldn’t eat here again.
Had the best lunch here today!! The staff was attentive friendly and had the best customer service. The food was amazing!!! I had the best green chili cheeseburger I’ve ever had!!! It was flavorful, tasty, moist and lit up my soul! The meat, the cheese and the green chilies were fresh and melted in your mouth!! I highly recommend this establishment for anyone who wants a good fresh tasty meal and most of all who loves green chili cheeseburgers!
Loved my Green Chile Cheeseburger. It was killer, Plaza Cafe still upholds their great reputation. They were sooo busy, I was there alone, and was not ignored. I didnt wait long at all. Thank you guys.
No service go else where. My date and I sat down at about 6:20pm and left after sitting over 20 minutes without service while listening our waiter chat up the hostess 15 ft away, we were one of 3 tables seated in his section. He was shocked to see us leave and asked the hostess where we had come from as we walked away hungry
I was walking around in encounter this restaurant where it was packed and still I got a table right away I order in food came out immediately and I had amazing service from our waitress Sharon but everyone overall helped out pre-busing refilling of water and everything so I’m very satisfied and highly recommend it
Amazing experience! Was on vacation with my boyfriend. Went there on a Monday afternoon-it was BUSY good sign. Waited bout 20min we were sat and were accommodated immediately the food was amazing! My boyfriend got blue corn enchiladas and I got a frito pie Good service! The cool manager checked on us convinced us to get sopapillas which were amazing and was even telling us how to make them. Overall was in a great location, great food and great service-definitely a spot we want to visit again!
Great casual vibe but really stellar food. The view of the plaza (especially lit up during winter) was beautiful, and the prices were good for being on the plaza. We ordered a hodgepodge to try a bit of everything - a breakfast burrito, a tortilla burger, steak and enchiladas, and blue corn chicken enchiladas. Everything tasted delicious (the green and red chilis are delicious, but you should be prepared for the spice)! I was very impressed by everything, and the delicious sides (wow that rice) the tortilla chips (HOMEMADE!) and the margaritas were just, wow. Amazing (and strong). Finally the dessert sopapillas and the quatro leches cupcake were DELICIOUS we were so full but we couldnt help eating it all. Everything tasted fresh and you can tell high quality products were used. I highly recommend.
An outstanding family owned eatery in the heart of old Santa Fe! Great food and great service!
Cute place in the plaza. We were really squeezed into our table. Staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. I would recommend if you are hanging around the Plaza in Santa Fe.
Open and making it work in spite of COVID-19 restrictions.Still serving great Santa Fe comfort food. Servers are a pleasure and it’s a go to for gluten free Frito Pie or a bowl of red Chili 🌶 . I recommend adding an over easy egg 🍳 to the bowl of Chili. Chili has a nice heat and great flavor. Chips and salsa are a must. Please visit and eat plenty to keep this go to place open for years to come. You will not be disappointed.Oh, don’t forget to check out the cakes and pies. Biscochitos cookies are available in the late fall and winter. Not for me (stupid gluten) but family and friends enjoy these before and after a meal. See you there next time I’m visiting family.
Sat on the lovely patio, and ordered a round of drinks. We were given paper menus. Having looked at the website menu the night before, we kinda remembered the pricing. The prices on the paper menu seemed higher, so we got online and looked at the online menu. Just as we had suspected, the paper menu prices were, in fact, higher. About $2-4 per item higher! Husband got up to use the restroom and noticed the menu that was posted at the hostess stand. It had different prices than the paper menu AND the menu listed on their website! Feeling bamboozled, we left.
I ate a hamburguer with gluten-free bun and it was delicious. You can taste some New Mexican dishes and also different plates from other restaurants. Also the waiters were really kind and they treat us really well. I will repeat for sure!!
This place has gone so far down hill its sad. My recent experience almost $70.00 for 2, the enchiladas were stone cold and chicken was so dry it was inedible. My hubbys steak was so overcooked he couldnt eat it either. Our server was also non-existent. Ive been coming here my whole life (over 40 years) and its always been great, my last 2 experiences have been a very expensive disaster. Hopefully they figure it out, its sad to see such an iconic place hit bottom like this.
I loved my first time coming in! Superb service and VERY friendly staff. Our waitress answered all our questions and even others that had nothing to with the cafe. Highly recommend and a must if visiting and want some great food!
The plaza Cafe was a very good eat. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes like a true tourist and they were very good. The service here is amazing I could not possibly empty my water. They serve a very thick bacon. probably a good idea to eat here on a day that you are not planning on skiing because it will weigh you down. While in Santa Fe definitely stop here for breakfast.
I ordered the 8oz. ribeye steak and enchiladas. What I got was a charred 1/4 thick 3oz. Piece of gristle and two flat tortillas with cheese stuck together. Dry tasteless beans and rice. I ate it and paid my bill. I mentioned to the waitress who simply laughed at me.
Stopped by for a beverage after a long walk with my husband. He had a beer and I ordered a iced chai latte which is on the menu. I was delivered a coffee latte, had a sip and now I have to deal with the fallout of a gastritis stomach that dared to have something that acidic. I took the coffee inside, informed the waitress of the issue. First they said, yes I brought you a coffee and after explaining again what I have asked for I was met with attitude. Fine! She said. Okay wow. They came out to tell us we wont be paying for anything and 2 minutes later, my husbands and my mood (and my stomach) were just ruined so we left. Bad service. Know your menu. The funny thing is, is that she double checked when I ordered. I repeated chai latte...
I asked for chili on the side so it wouldnt get soggy (I wasnt gonna be able to finish it) 4 times and it was a huge fat soggy tortilla covered in everything! Waitress didnt seem to care at all. Food was sonic at best but at THAT price, being a local too. So disappointing. Dont recommend.
Great food, fast service always handle a issue right away. would defenetly come back!
Of course good eats. Thats why they were packed! Staff worked their tails off, yet they remained pleasant and sociable.
We stumbled on Plaza Cafe as we walked around the shops on a Friday morning. They have plenty of outdoor seating with umbrellas to protect from the hot sun, and our dog was able to join on the patio. The special avocado toast was delicious with feta, red onion, herbs, and served on house made cheddar green chili bread. We also ordered the steak and eggs and although there was a little more fat on the steak than expected, it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Our server, Julian, was wonderful. He wrote down recommendations on places for cocktails, the local farmers market, and some good places to hike during our weekend in town. We would absolutely return.
Great New Mexican food with friendly staff. Delicious dishes, great service, and overall a great environment to be around!
My overall grade for Plaza Cafe Downtown is: A+We went there for breakfast this morning based on my good friend Tonys recommendation. Breakfast is my favorite meal and one that I am very picky about. The location could not be better - right on the square - just perfect. There is outdoor seating available for when the weather is cooperative. The diner itself is exactly what I picture when I think diner. Nostalgia, the servers all wearing white shirts and black pants. Coffee - as expected - a good diner cup of coffee.I asked for a good Santa Fe representation for breakfast. The server recommended huevos rancheros with chili. Since this is Santa Fe, I asked for both the green and red chili on top of my huevos. The green sauce was spot on - great flavor and a little bit of a spicy kick. More spicy than I expected - but a pleasant surprise. The red sauce has great flavor and actually not as spicy as I expected. The star of the meal of course is the chili. Both green & red were great. Service - great. My wife ordered a single pancake with a. couple of eggs. Also, we had a side of their sausage which was very good.Pancakes are a make or break for me - these pancakes are excellent - I rate them an A on their own. I would visit this place just for their pancakes. The next time youre in Santa Fe and are looking for a great breakfast, head on over to Plaza Cafe Downtown - you will not be disappointed.Ill be back for sure.
I was not happy with the quality of food we received for the price I paid. Enchiladas were cold and cheese wasn’t even melted. My daughter breakfast burrito was not very tasty. Bowl of beans and chili was not very good. All around bad food but waitress was very friendly and helpful.
The place was filled with people. The atmosphere felt electric. Servers were amazing and on point. Meeting the customers needs. Made sure everyone was being taken care of. The food incredible and impressive flavors. You wont go hungry in a place like this. If you do its your own fault. The desserts are handmade and only the ones that work there know the recipes. This is what traditional food should be. Yup. Cant wait to go back and eat again. Felt welcomed as soon as you walk in. Like family.
It was not good. Our server said she had too many tables and it was obvious. The food order was not correct and it took our entire meal to get waters. The margaritas were very small and expensive ($11) with more ice than margarita. The food was not seasoned well (or at all). It was quite disappointing.
Good value for the cost. Very busy with local flavor and customer mix. Great staff and service.
Had their signature granola and Greek yogurt piled high with fresh fruits. Best breakfast! If youre lucky to get a table outside, they have a very pleasant covered area right by the Plaza.
Tasty diner. Good food. Good waitstaff. Omelet was good, pancakes, thick bacon and eggs perfect. Green chili really yummy. Great place for a family whose tastes roam from American breakfast to Mexican breakfast.
Stopped in with my husband on the way back home to Denver. Food was Amazing, atmosphere nice & comfortable. Our server Donna was wonderful & the hostess Karen was/is Fantastic!! Highly recommend. 👍👍
Great job! Service was amazing. We have been in the downtown Sante Fe area for 3 days and service at restaurants has been pretty bad overall. Lots of adjustment post restrictions so I’ve tried to be understanding. That said, the team at the Plaza Diner is running on all cylinders and clearly ready to be back in the service industry. Great job, great food. Thank you.
Nice place with some dope af local foods! Sopaipillas were delish.
Food was fine and my waitress, Ashley, was awesome. At the table next to us, Laura the waitress was cleaning the table (not my waitress). I said, miss, theres a packet on the floor under the table that someone could slip on. Without making eye contact, she barked at me, maam I dont have time to help you. It was very rude.
Great restaurant on the plaza. Enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the music and seeing the people on the plaza
Fantastic place. Love the blue corn pancakes. Great service, too.
Arrived, sat us down, 15 minutes later nobody around to even ask us for drinks and we left next door to Thunderbirds and had an amazing local beer and great food with awesome service.
Great food and great service. On the square. Awesome atmosphere.
Really liked the atmosphere and the food. Two thumbs up.
Stopped there on Wednesday for a cup of coffee and pie. Terrific coffee. And Im picky about my coffee. Great wait staff. Went back today for a mid-day breakfast. There was a line, but we were seated quickly. We were amazed at the wait staff. All well groomed, dressed in white shirts, aprons and ties. Moving fast throughout the restaurant. I noticed that all of the waiters performed all of the duties (i.e. serving, greeting customers, clearing and cleaning the tables). The efficiency was amazing. Food was great, but the service was amazing (our server was Jordan). I love it when I experience an operation that is so well run. This restaurant earns it success and reputation.
Excellent breakfast, great staff. Classic diner experience.
Staff is excellent. Friendly and attentive. Old school dinner with New Mexico twists. We had the BLT-A which seems pretty basic but they put it on fresh baked green chili-cheddar bread, wow! Pop! And they use a spicy aioli to create taste bud confusion. Huge portions. Such a cute place, 115 years old and counting.
Excellent food. Very good prompt service.
Great as always!! Repeat yearly as it is always consistently good food!
Tres leches cake. Good friendly service. Good breakfast.
Hostess was great, Deserae was awesome, friendly, had our table ready for 9, no waiting. Wish I could say the same for our waitress. Food was good but service needs a little improvement.
Such a great place. Great NM food and the view of the plaza! Wow. Staff were great. Outside seating, pet friendly.
Was looking forward to dinner here based of others reviews. Was disappointed as a New Mexican for the meal that came out, though the green chiles had spice. Seemed like everything was out of a can or package. Queso was good that was served with the chips. Wait staff was friendly and restaurant was clean but I am sure I wont go back as I did not feel that the meal was worth the price.
Food was good, ate on patio. Music was playing across the street in the plaza.
The food here is simply amazing with very large portions and reasonable pricing and while they can be quite busy, which I take as an excellent sign, their service was still very good. The outside dining is a very nice touch as well.
We were seated fairly quickly, but then waited about 10 minutes for our server to finally show up to take our order. Coffee tasted burnt. There appeared to be no offering of plain, white sugar as our table nor any around us had white packets. We ordered the Traditional and Plaza breakfasts. Hashbrown were FANTASTIC, very good flavor and not greasy. Bacon was thick and cooked well. Husband said sausage was delicious. Prices listed online (Google menu) do not match current prices on in-restaurant menu.
First off they had everyone crammed together with tables touching when there were many other tables free and all the booths free. The taco meat was tuff and cold, so papillae were cold and the pinto beans were dry and tasted a bit old. Used to have excellent food pre COVID.
First visit to the Plaza Cafe since their renovation. Consistently great food, with some unique touches. The outdoor seating on the Plaza is a good addition.
Once the waiter remembered we were there, the food was quite good. But maybe she was having an off day, we waited a long time for service once we were seated.
Excellent food and great service.Best coconut cream pie ever!! I love the coconut crust!
Great lunch spot. The menu was very typical of the area and it makes a great spot to stop when shopping in the area. The service was fast despite being very busy and food tasted great.
Had breakfast there is morning. The Plaza special. Food was excellent. Never saw a harding working wait staff. They were at the very least speed walking!Highly recommend
Very friendly efficient and attentive staff, fast food service. As soon as I entered into the dinner I could smell the delicious strong coffee, fresh Santa Fe honey on the table I am told. I ordered the sapopilla with beef with rice beans and salad on the side, plus two chilli sauces (green manageable, red not my favorite). (12.95$+T) delicious. The bread was not hard, the meat was tender, not chewy or tough. Facing the plaza park, good for kids to eat but not enough room to play. WiFi only allow access to browser, I could not access Skype. I would go there again because very friendly staff - warning chilli sauce is hot!!
Great food and service. One of our all time favorites.
My go to cafe whenever I visit Santa Fe! Great food and prices. Perfect location on the Plaza. Great service. I have been visiting this place for years and will continue to go anytime Im in town.
Great food, great service, good drinks, and a wonderful atmosphere would definitely eat here again. Delicious guacamole and chips, wonderful fish tacos!!!
Amazing place! Waitstaff went out of their way to make us comfortable and bring us anything we needed! I had the blue corn Pinon pancake with orange butter. I will say of you are allergic to pine nuts dont order this.
Wonderful ambientance, very friendly staff and a very tasty breakfast
The fish and chips was very good.
Coffee tastes like Nescafe powdered coffee...
Comfy, attractive, four of us had a very good lunch.
I shouldve left when I was seated at the table with a sticky surface. But I stayed, and now I am paying for it. Something tasted off in the carne asada on the chili. Now I am puking my heart out.The service was almost non-existent. The food was average, the prices were low compared to the most of restaurants in town, and the place was busy. Never again.
The food was excellent, the service not so good.
Very nice and professional waiters. Third time visiting in 12 years and just as awesome! Picnic was off balance due to the road but that’s nature, lol. It still worth it.
