The dealer alternative. Truly.Nelson is as thorough as it gets and takes so much pride in his work. He diagnoses everything almost instantly, texts you pics + video of all the work hes doing including pics of old parts + (new) replacement parts. Ive had him diagnose and fix a multitude of things maybe an hour or two after dropping off the car, to my surprise.The feeling of knowing I couldnt be in better hands gives me so much ease.Ive never dealt with anyone like him in all my years. I know of mechanics as good or close to, at least, but from an overall customer experience and feeling at ease knowing what is going on and exactly what to expect in every aspect [timeframe, work being done, final cost], Nelson is in his own league. After reading great reviews about My Guy I decided to bring my car here. My cars engine light came on after having my car service for an oil change at a different place; I also lost engine power and couldnt drive more than 20 mph.Even though I didnt have an appointment Nelson took the time to scan my car to make sure the car was safe to drive. A long story short there was nothing wrong with the car, he cleared the codes that were causing the engine light to come on, he took the car for a spin and my car was running fine in less than 15 minutes.Nelson was very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, honest, and he didnt even charge me for his services.I had so many bad experiences with Auto shops; I am very grateful that I was able to find a GOOD HONEST mechanic. I highly recommend this business to all my friends and anybody looking for great service.

I recently purchased a car which when I purchased it knew it needed to go in for a few minor things like spark plug replacement etc... the place where I purchased the car said to take it to My Guy in South Plainfield and he set the appointment based on my availability.When I arrived for my appointmentGreg came right over and asked if I was craig and told him I was.. he immediately shook my hand and said what they where going to be looking at and replacing at no cost to me since the dealer was paying. He gave me a general time frame for completion and asked for my phone number to call me when the work was done. Also asked if my registration and insurance info was in the car so he could test drive the car after the work was complete. When I came back Nelson walked out of the bay where he was working on a car to tell me that Greg had taken my car to be inspected and he would be back shortly. Also he told me if I needed anything let him know and in the office there was water etc..When I arrived back my car was done before the initial time frame and since it didn’t have an inspection sticker I had the 2 weeks temp one Greg even went and had it inspected.When he was back he told me about all the work done and that it was a really good purchase. Nelson then came over to thank me as well.Customer service is what I would say this place is about.. Great work but also 2 guys who you can tell really love what they do and it shows.. you can fake service and most do but it’s rare when you find genuine service like these guys provided and as well as Charlie from Japanese Auto Imports in Red Bank.It’s easy to write about negative experiences and if I did I would be writing all day however when service like this is present I felt the need to let others know just how great my experience was and hopefully help be a deciding factor to where you take your car for service.Thank you again guys because you just made a customer for life even if it is a 30 minute drive because to me service and respect for my time is key and you went above and beyond.

A couple years ago I took a chance on purchasing a used Lexus SUV, as the car needed some work like a new timing belt, plugs and a tune up. Thats how I found Greg at My Guy Auto Repair in South Plainfield. He is straight forward, honest and knows his stuff. His shop is super organized, extensive (4 lifts) and theres no job he cant do. Recently, he brought on a partner, Nelson whos just as awesome and these guys work non-stop! They are especially knowledgeable of Toyota/Lexus but good with all cars as Ive brought in a lot of work between friends and family.Im always impressed by their resourcefulness when it comes to finding parts both new and used and thankful that they always try to work with you to give alternative options for the best solutions in terms of price and time. Highly recommend my guys in South Plainfield.

I just started driving a while back and Greg has helped me numerous times whether it be a fuel tank repair or fixing my bumper. They are super professional and kind workers! Highly recommend!!!

My 2012 Acura MDX used to make a whining noise on cold start / when I drive over 65mph. I took it to many Honda / Acura dealers but no luck. They straight out rejected the fact that there is no whining noise. I was visiting my cousin in NJ and wanted an oil change before a long drive. I called My Guy and got the appointment the same day. He not only did the oil change but also fixed the whining noise which was due to faulty O ring. He uses genuine Honda products for oil change / any service. Im waiting to go back when I hit 90K miles to have my 90K mile service done from this service center. Service cost is reasonable.

Over the years I have taken my vehicles to lots of shops and independent mechanics and have generally either had mixed or unsatisfying results. In April 2014 I found Greg, one of the owners and primary techs at My Guy Auto Repair on Craigs List and his pricing and service specials looked excellent. After checking out online reviews, I decided to give him a shot with my newly purchased 2005 Toyota Highlander. I was really hoping he lived up to the great feedback online but was skeptical since I have been burned so many times before.Well let me save you any further suspense. Greg and his co-owner Nelson are the real deal and the BEST and most honest auto techs Ive ever found and I have been a repeat customer the last 4 years! Greg and Nelson describe My Guy Auto Repair as The Dealer Alternative and they more than live up to this billing. Please do not take this review lightly. As you can see from my profile, I dont ever take the time to give businesses a Google review but I simply have to in this case because of the 5 star experience.*Star 1) Highly qualified and enthusiastic about their jobs. Its clear that not only are Greg and Nelson very talented and experienced working on Toyota/Lexus vehicles (ASE Master Certified, etc.) but they are also well versed on most makes/models and the quality of their work is second to none.**Star 2) Great Service. From the get go, Greg (and now Nelson) always greet me right away as I walk from my car into their shop and shake my hand. They explain the repair process and how long it should take and keep me updated. I can sit in their climate controlled front waiting room and use the FREE Wi-Fi and do my work. While its not a modern upscale dealer experience with tons of amenities in the waiting room, the shop is neat/tidy and my wallet isnt empty when I leave, unlike when I go to the dealer.***Star 3) Trustworthy mechanics. Multiple times I have asked the guys to perform a service and they talk me out of it as unnecessary! Can you believe that? For example, I asked Greg when I first got my 2005 Highlander to change my brake fluid. After he tested the fluid out, he determined it was like new. Explained it was probably changed as part of a Toyota brake recall. When I said that other mechanics would likely have charged me the $50+ for this, he explained he could never do that in good conscience and he wasnt raised that way. Translation, he is an honest guy. So is Nelson by the way and he often fixes something small I didnt even notice or ask about to prevent a future breakdown or driving annoyance and refuses to charge me for it!****Star 4) Very thorough and they actually teach you about properly maintaining your vehicle. The guys will spend time walking me through used cars I buy as part of a FREE inspection and advise what to look out for in the future. Greg even showed me early on how to manage the TPMS warning light on my Highlander if it ever acted up in the future and showed me how to reset it. When the timing belt was off, he showed me the condition and the build up in the water pump weeping hole so I knew it was getting close to failure. How many techs would do this? Overall, their thoroughness and vehicle education gave me great confidence that my vehicle was thoroughly checked out and taken care of while at My Guy Auto. This has led me to servicing my Infiniti G35 and wifes Mazda CX-9 there as well.*****Star 5) Excellent pricing across the board, saved huge $ on timing belt/water pump and drive belts, Mobil 1 Synthetic oil changes, trans and power steering fluid changes, brake jobs, tune ups, and even professionally installing a new exhaust system!Great job Greg and Nelson at My Guy Auto Repair, you continue to get a well deserved 5 STARS *****Thanks Again!
