Overall, not an awful experience buying a car, but there were a few aspects that were unexpected and extremely unpleasant. But Ill try to be objective.Good:- probably better inventory selection, than most Volvo car dealerships around NYC haveVery good:- I appreciate the team helping to arrange the delivery of the carVery bad:- I found the build I want on the dealers website priced at 58k. At this point, I already knew I want this particular car, and wanted to finalize the price. I used request more info feature and expressed my willingness to buy the car and asked if the price was final. Instead of direct answer to my question I was invited to come for a test drive. The next day when I came, I was told that the price now is actually 1k higher. My explanation that the only reason I have to pay more, was because the person that replied to my email ignored my message, didnt convince the manager to sell the car at advertised price that was on their website 16 hours earlier. This made me feel Im tricked, on top of all stress of shopping for a car in 2021Bad:- as mentioned above, I contacted the dealership in regards to a particular build they have in stock. Not only my question was ignored, and instead I was invited for a test drive, I also was surprised to find the car parked inside the office behind many other vehicles. Not sure what was the point of coming for a test drive then, unless it was a part of their scheme (get attention by website prices, invite them to drive 2.5 hour just to tell the price is actually higher)
Found our XC-40 on a Friday in August and was able to drive it away by Monday. Mostly excellent experience from start to finish. There was some confusion at the beginning because there were two different threads going, but Justin quickly sorted it out and was able to move the process forward. He was responsive, patient, and knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Car was exactly as described and no surprises with the price. Would gladly return.
I tried to give you this feedback by mail and text (ie privately) - I asked for the valet service (since you offer it). The pick-up in the morning at my office was fine, but they called me at the end of the day to let me know that they were not going to be able to return my car that night (for a basic service and without warning). I ended up having to arrange transportation to and from my house the night you kept my car in. Very inconvenient.
First time at Riley Volvo to have a spare smart remote programmed and key cut. The cost of the remote was literally half that of other dealers, so worth the hour drive for me. Chris in parts and Paul in service were fantastic. In and out in less than an hour. A good first experience! Definately will be back.
We purchased the Volvo S 80 in 2003 after doing research from a car accident Volvo stood out for being a very safe vehicle. We purchased a vehicle from Rile Volvo of Stamford we still own this vehicle it is a 2001 S 80. We have been taking it back to Volvo of Stamford for 20 years their service is fantastic and they meet all expectations. There is a gentleman named Paul who does all the service scheduling he treats us like family. He is very caring respectful and concerned with any issues we may have. What a great dealership with great people.Thank you Volvo and Paul.

I got my Volvo updated to include a Polestar tune. It couldnt have been a more positive experience. This dealership is very much in tune, pun intended, with their customers and are even involved with Volvo social forums. It was through this forum that I learned of this dealership. Its a family owned dealership and I was quite surprised that the person that I was in contact with was part of the family. There was an issue with their ordering website. When I sent an email to them, I was quite surprised to not only have received an answer within 5 minutes (seriously! I just checked the time stamp), but also to have had the website fixed in order for me to place the order. This was to help enable me to take advantage of a Labor Day sale.The service people there were also super nice. They also had a few very nice desk areas for customers (not to mention the beverage area) which enabled me to be super productive. Nice dealership! Installation was under 1 hour. They did warn me that sometimes it takes longer. This was an incredibly positive experience for me at this dealership.

Recently I looked up their reviews and they were less than stellar. Not quite sure why, since I’ve only had great experiences with my salesman Lee and the service I received over the last 10 plus years from Riley. Like any business, it’s always about the person you’re dealing with and how they treat you going forward. From the moment we walked into the Volvo dealership it was completely different from the usual dealer haggle. There was no one to make us feel uncomfortable or too forward. The exact opposite. Everyone was so pleasant and made you feel right at home. There was even a kids corner for our young daughters (age 3 & 5) to play, read books and eat snacks. They thought of everything here. This is by far the BEST car buying experience we have ever come across. We’re now forever a Volvo family. We will only drive Volvo after this experience. Inquired about a vehicle on Sunday night. Received an email Monday morning. Emailed Justin back about an hour later indicating that I will stop by after work at 6pm. Never heard back from him. Got there around 6, receptionist say she is trying to find a salesperson, but gives me the keys to an xc40r so that I could take a look. Come back inside and she is still trying to find a salesperson. I think she was disturbing the guy because he appeared to have no interest. I tell him the car that I was interested in and he tells me the car was sold. He then tells me that he has a few left on the lot and pointed to where they were parked. I decided to just say, Ill go outside and take a look. I went outside and straight to my car.
Easiest transaction I’ve ever completed for a car. Very competitive pricing and no shenanigans. The dealership is family owned and run and it shows. For a new Volvo this is the place.

EDIT W RESPONSE TO DEALER: yes - you tried to charge me thousands of dollars in repairs to a problem that your service department caused. Purpose of visit was to weigh the oil in my car (photo proof attached with receipt). Your technician cracked a spark plug and told me I needed to replace my cylinder head because they could not get it back in the car. This would cost me over $3,000…not even addressing the other issue you claimed the car had. I called a trusted auto body shop who told me “this behavior is what gives our industry a bad reputation”. When my husband called to check in you claimed the car was ready to be picked up and no issues. Therefore you took advantage of me as a woman trying to make me pay for something unnecessarily. I will also add that the so-called “family friendly” owner Jameson questioned my parenting in front of my 2 young children when I confronted him about how I was treated. Also you mention expletives (plural) - it was a single swear word I used after you tried to hold my car hostage unless I approved a multiple thousand dollar repair for something you broke. Current and prospective customers beware; these guys cannot be trusted.Shady and dishonest practices at the service department. I left feeling belittled as a woman. Needless to say I sold my car for much more than they would have ever given me and I will never return to any business owned and/or operated by the Riley family as they adopt a misogynistic philosophy while dealing with customers. Was treated much better at 8 other dealerships I visited this week when looking for a new car. If you need a Volvo I suggest going to Westport.

They are very responsive whenever I have an issue and do a great job of prioritizing issues that need immediate attention and those that can wait for a future visit. Great dealership service! After almost a month of Safelite giving me the run around about windshields being on backorder and being very hard to get, I called their parts department and they had glass ready for me in 3 days. So much for those horrible backorders, huh Safelite... They also installed it for me for a reasonable price, it was actually almost $300 less than it would have been with Safelite.
Joe and AJ made what my wife and I feared could be a tenuous process easy, fast, and pleasant. We purchased our S60 virtually, which was a bit nerve-wracking. Joe went out of his way by virtually showing the vehicle before finalizing the purchase and again when it was loaded to the transportation truck. AJ was very patient and thorough in explaining all our financing and warranty options. Joe and AJ were extremely professional and did a great job putting my Wife and I at ease throughout this entire process. I highly recommend Riley Volvo. We will certainly be back for our next Volvo purchase.

Experience when getting my car wasn’t smooth and things were left out of the lease until the day of signing when I had to ask about certain items. Now, I’ve had problems with the software in the car, and the valet was 3 hours late to the set appointment time to get my car. Report was returned with little to no information about the problem in the car, so I had to ask service advisor what they actually fixed. Overall, very disappointed with Riley Volvo.

Visited to purchase what is effectively their most expensive car, an x90 t8. Entered the empty showroom and was observed by a number of chubby and sullen looking salesmen who elected to remain in their offices. Astonishing when car sales are being decimated....

Shady and dishonest practices in the service dept. Had 2 employees on separate days tell me I had a free service under warranty, including the woman who booked it. Dropped my car at 8:30am and didnt get a call until nearly 4pm to inform me that I did not have free service, but that I needed $1200 of work, including a new battery. I was told my car was already drained of the old oil... trying to pressure me into paying for at least that with a 10% discount for my inconvenience. I was disappointed and felt duped and asked to speak with a manager. Apparently he was gone for day, so they kept my car until following morning. Next morning I was offered a bigger discount, despite my telling them that my expectation was to pay nothing for the service. All of a sudden they say my car was never emptied of oil the previous day, making it seem like that was a pressure tactical. After 5 phone calls back and forth (no manager ever called me back to apologize) they agreed to do oil change for free and I turned down the battery work. When I picked it up, they said they did whole service for free (did they? How would I really know?). I went straight from picking up my car to someplace else where I got my battery tested. I saw the test results on the screen come back good. They said it was totally fine. Havent had one issue or low battery warning on car since. Seems the claim I needed new battery was absolutely false and attempt to just generate unnecessary business. Shady doesnt begin to describe the service dept here. They may seem nice...but i wouldnt trust them with my car ever again.

My appointment was scheduled for 9 am. My car was picked up at 3 pm and I didn’t get it back until the next day at 3 pm. I was not expecting to not have my car for 24 hrs and I had planned my day around pick up time which was worthless. I guess that if someone had called me to let me know what the real deal was it would have been helpful. My car went for routine service. At other dealerships I would get my car washed, not here
I wish car wash and software update are available as they stated.Reply to the dealer: I contacted Volvo Cars to find out why on their website states free software updates on every visit without any fine print or exclusion as the screenshot attached, but Riley Volvo wouldn’t honor it. I was told every dealership is independently owned and operated, they might have their own exclusion. Volvocars.com has recently updated their website, free software update is removed. As of 4/13/2021, complimentary software updates and car wash are still listed under Volvo Genuine Service on your website as the photos below, without stating exclusion after 3years/36,000 miles at anywhere. Volvo cars offered me $100 off after made a deal with your manager, who I specifically asked to speak to and never had the chance back then. Anyway,no, thank you! I’ll pay for the update in full price at somewhere else.COVID-19 is a perfect excuse for not offering car wash, but I serviced my Volvo with you since 2016, I only got exterior wash and vacuum once and exterior wash only at one other time.I visited Volvo Cars White Plains last week for a repair under warranty, free car wash, vacuum and tire shine without even asking.

Riley found this car for us too - two years ago.Paul is always professional, efficient and an excellent communicator re: the issues that come up when one of our Volvos is serviced. I love it that he sent photos of the broken axle so I could see what needed replacement.Great that Riley turned this repair around in 24 hours, too, as my daughter needed to drive 600 miles to Notre Dame the next day (to beat the snow)! The C30 Coup is the perfect car for her to have at college in Indiana, as it is good in snow and reliable in winter in general....so driving in the snow would not have been a problem!Thanks so much guys!Tim Greer

I dropped off a 2011 XC70 for service before service hours. I received a call not long after regarding their findings. The staff was extremely professional and courteous. I wouldnt think of using another volvo dealer.
Be wary of trading in your vehicle with this dealer. They will low ball you on the trade in value. Definitely look up your cars value on Kelly Blue Book before they rob you.

I have driven Volvos for years. Have bought them in Stamford, Westport & Milford & have serviced them at all three spots. Regular maintenance appointments have always run more than $1,000. I was so pleasantly surprised to get my car back yesterday at less than half that charge. Moreover, I like the explicit checklist of what was examined & done. I NEVER write reviews, but this service merited one.

I would deff call Paul if your interested in any Volvo model. I Always come to Riley Volvo for service also and never had any type of issues at all.
Sales dept is not particularly knowledgeable about their vehicles and the service dept is mediocre. They dont communicate well with customers regarding updates on vehicles in for service, the prices for their services are exploitative, (even for a dealer) and when they make a mistake with billing, (was charged for what should have been warranty work) they drag their feet when refunding money.
Buying a car from Riley Volvo has been the WORST car buying experience Ive ever had! I would give ZERO stars if I had the option. As an out of sate customer, I paid a convenience fee to the dealership to cover the transfer of the plates from the vehicle I traded-in to the XC90 I purchased. Its been 3 months since I purchased the volvo and I still have not received my registration. Riley Volvo has been unresponsive and left me no other option than to reach out to the Massachusetts RMV personally to try and get to the bottom of the issue. Come to find out, the RMV never received the paperwork from the dealership! Riley has made zero attempt to help so Ive requested the necessary paperwork so I may go to the RMV personally to process the registration. And still, no response from the dealership and they havent provided me with the documents I need. They havent even had the courtesy to call me despite my voicemails and emails. BUYER BEWARE!!

Dealership did do warranty work but they were very quick to get me moving out and seemed annoyed by my questions, I had to repeatedly ask for things that seemed to also annoy them, I also asked for an extended warranty quote and they said they would have that for me but they never did that either, also they said they test drove the vehicle and couldn’t duplicate complaint of vibration yet there is harmonic equipment to detect various vibrations that isolate motor mounts transmission mounts or axle imbalances, I won’t return to this dealership and don’t feel their very friendly either, they also were quick to sign off on condition of loaner but I had to point out condition of my vehicle and that it had no scrapes or dents and also told them I did take a video of vehicle prior to service to ensure that it was returned to me without damage again the girl was clearly annoyed and I said hey you want to ensure your vehicle comes back without damage then why should mine be no different, no can’t recommend them

Every time they worked on my car, I had to go back there because something was not done right. Service did not return my phone calls, appointment that I made two weeks in advance somehow disappeared from the system... Needless to say, I am not going there again.
Annual service due, drop off and pick up were easy and convenient. I would have preferred a loaner but apparently a week is not enough lead time for such. I had questions regarding tire pressure that remain unanswered.My only constructive criticism would be language used during text updates, for example I asked for an update on pick up around 1230, I was promptly told they were waiting for someone that could work on it 😳. Perhaps, ‘we anticipate pick up available close to closing time, thank you for your patience,’ would have been better and less stressful to hear.And, they did have to order a part for a something minor, it’s just over a week and I have not heard anything.

Brought my new 2020 V60 in response to a safety recall, and the service — during the pandemic — was conscientious and efficient. The car was completed earlier than promised, and was delivered back to me fully-detailed and with a full tank of gas. No prob!
