Refered by a friend! Did not disappoint. Unique dishes, presentation impressive. Dessert perfect finish to a perfect meal. Must tryThank you
Dont let the strip mall exterior throw you off! This place has delicious seafood and starters. I only wish Id saved room for dessert!
I enjoy the food here. The staff is wonderful too. I will have to return soon.
Cozy dining room, beachy feel. Great food cooked with fresh ingredients by a talented chef.

Nice place to stay. Delicious food and friendly staff.
Velo eatery is the bomb!!! you can taste in every bite the love that chef matt puts into his food! Creative! Delicious! Family atmoshphere! Just Great food! Large portions at reasonable prices! Only open friday and saturday..cash only.. menus for the 2 nights always posted on facebook. Has special theme nights once in a while! They are exceptional! Dont be afraid to try new things! It just might end up being your next favorite food! My new favorite place!
Great location for quality American food. Great location to chill, eat some good food. Really nothing but good experiences here. The place has a nice feel to it.
What an eclectic menu! We dined at one of the two tables available for outdoor dining, and the service was attentive and very friendly. For our first visit, we couldnt have asked for more. I couldnt see it, but my husband noted the brisk take-out traffic, as well. We will be back!
Delicious food.
Great food, good service. Couldnt ask for a better atmosphere for a small eatery.
Truly outstanding meal. Was gonna try the scallops but decided to go with the brisket, ribs, and sausage platter and glad I did. Wasn’t sure how the BBQ would be not coming from a “BBQ place” but wow, the meats were tender, tasty, and not fatty. Came with a sweet potato side, a piece of cornbread, and a pork and bean chili but I only had room for two out of the three. Both the sweet potato and corn bread were delicious and I’ll be having the pork and bean chili for lunch tomorrow. My wife opted for the seafood gumbo and we were both impressed with the amount of seafood. She easily made two meals out of it and it had just enough heat. Velo will become a regular stop for us on date night and we look forward to seeing what Chef Matt will be cooking up
The food is homemade and huge portions! The server/owner was super friendly and the place is always busy, small yet cozy. Highly recommend!!!
Good food but the people were not very friendly.
Velo eaterys food was not bad but they need to clean their comfort room well.
Food is great but every time we eat there, it’s so crowded I’m literally glued to the wall.
I love the decorations and atmosphere. The dishes served are superb. Everything is fresh, menu changes weekly so there is always variety, and its byob so you can look at the menu to pair with your favorite wine! I recommend everyone to come to this Jersey gem
So food here is excellent, no doubt. The young gals serving the tables, and bussing, delightful. But the Hostess, head waitress isnt nice, she sure lets everyone knows SHES the boss. Big deal, lighten up, relax and enjoy the restaurant. Needs an attitude adjustment badly.
Best small seafood place in toms river
This place is pretty good. The seafood they serve was fresh and cooked perfectly. Some of the dishes had an eclectic style to them but overall very good well cooked food. It is cash only, which in 2018 is a rather annoying and old school way to do business but hey its not my choice. Bring cash and prepare to eat good.
Small family owned and run restaurant. BYOB and cash only. It was the most flavorful meal we had in a long time. I had the crab cake and my wife the scallops. Both were amazing. We will be back again.
Creative menu excellent prep. Sword fish dinner and pulled pork egg rolls app. Totally amazing.Cant wait to get back
I must have missed something. Rude service from the how was everything, as she walked away twice. Lets face it, she couldnt have cared less, but at least she was dressed comfortable in sweats and converse sneakers. Theres cozy, and then theres professionalism....wow.Ok food. Soups pretty good. Apple wooden bacon and arugula...a salad perhaps, but listed as an appetizer...with a random sauce; just odd. Five pieces of bacon whole with lilted arugula on the side.Entrees of shrimp scampi and scallops. Forgetful completely. Over cooked scallops on one side, rawish on the other.Just not even close to worth it.What am i missing here?
Really amazing food! Even the salad was great and Im not a salad guy. Best scallops Ive ever had. And I love the mom n pop feel.
Hands down, the most talented chef in Ocean County. Weekly menu reflects fresh produce and local seafood. For the caliber of talent demonstrated in each dish, the price is remarkably affordable. Velo has raised the bar for this area. Sadly, I now expect the same from other restaurants.
Very clean, well organized restaurant food is amazing and the staff are very kind. Definitely good place for a family night out::)
Great little place with creative and delicious seafood dishes. Family owned, cash only, byob. Not the greatest location, but the food and friendly service is worth it.
Food experience was pretty good. Service was good as well. Parking was easy. The schedule of this place is confusing and constantly changes. Sometimes open and sometimes closed. Call before heading over.
The food was amazing! This was our 5th time there and the menu is never the same. Everything was creative and delicious!
Awesome seafood
Drove past this place like a million times and never thought twice about it.My girlfriend on a whim wanted to try it.The food was fantastic and the portions were ridiculously large.Girlfriend got the ribs (probably can be a meal for three). She loved them.I had the fishermans stew. I was beside myself.
Fantastic! Food was delicious.. atmosphere was great...staff was warm welcoming and friendly... definitely one we will keep in the rotation! A must go!check their Facebook for daily menu...yup its that fresh!
Excellent food, fresh seafood and THE BEST homemade desserts!!
Small cozy restaurant, family owned and operated. Menu changes weekly, amazing food. Great place if you value food quality over ambience. Byob. Check hours and menu before you go.
I never have any idea what I want when coming here because I know everything is going to be delicious. Whether its soul food, Italian, seafood, or anything else you can think of, its probably amazing. Velo isnt open every night, and youre probably going to be waiting a bit before being seated, but its worth the wait every time.
Food is great, creative menu, cooked fresh to order. Staff is super friendly. Atmosphere is casual and VERY nicely decorated, creative, cool vibe! BYOB
My family and I had dinner here tonight and ask I can say is wow! The food was fantastic. Chef Matthew is creating some extraordinary dishes, so original. And the execution was flawless. I love this place.I had roasted salmon with mashed red potatoes, spinach, charred red onion salad, with a honey red grape reduction. It was excellent!Of note: the best new England clam chowder Ive ever had in a restaurant. Really. The best.My wife has the summer lump crab cake with cheddar and bacon Mac n cheese, avocado, and wasabi aioli. Really good.My wife and family absolutely loved this place. Not too much to look at from the outside, but the interior, service, and food were outstanding.Try it, youll thank me.
Great food. Well priced great service
We ate there twice and the food was wonderful! However, we have tried three other times to bring friends, after raving about the food, and all three times the restaurant has been closed. Very frustrating! Doubt if I will suggest Velo as destination for dinner again. Really too bad because they serve great food.
Food was amazing, server seemed very annoyed it took us awhile to pick our entrees after ordering an appetizer. Fresh ricotta and peach appitizer was fabulous, as was prime rib and lobster bouliabase, were superb. Server again appeared to be rushing us but restaurant was not busy. She also seemed annoyed we ordered the ricotta and peach dish once again but for our dessert which she brought with no dishes to share as she knew we were and no utensils had to track her down for two forks, as we were finishing up our dish she dropped off the check and left, no offer of coffee or tea?? The server is part owner and has no customer skills if the chef partners food was not so fantastic this establishment would have very few customers. We stayed away almost a year because of this same situation on another visit. Its sad we may stay away much longer or permanently. This was probably first time I left such a poor tip.
We went here for NYE, so I get it was a holiday and very busy. The food was good and the chef/owner was friendly. However, it was freezing in there, a cash only establishment and the woman owner was sooooo nasty/rude. We were so surprised by her attitude. We definetly will not be back and have already told about 10 people about how bad our experience there was. The woman owner should definetley try to at least put a smile on her face and try to be friendly
Always delicious...
Food is amazing. Always delicious.
Had the Tile fish and Beef Ribs they both were very good. The service on the other hand could have been much better.
AMAZING!!! the food is so fresh and the portions are huge! !! The chefs have the magic touch!!! Beautiful .. relaxed ... Mello atmosphere. We will be making frequent visits
Great food. Quaint atmosphere. Gets busy but so worth it.
Doesnt look like anything you would want to stop at from the outside which is terribly unfortunate because they have excellent food. Everything made with painstaking care and skill.Cozy and inviting inside with fresh and amazing cuisine.I couldnt recommend it higher.
This is a must, very talented chef eclectic atmosphere, love it!Dont be the only one who is not invited to the party...yum!
Out standing delicious food. Great atmosphere.
Creative menu, large portions, menu changes regularly.
Average to say the least. To me dining experience consists of 3 things: Atmosphere (decor, comfort, cleanness, etc), Food and Customer Service. The place is cute and cozy. Nice cook/owner. Thats about it for positives. One-door entry can make place cold when door opens. Here are the issues :- CASH ONLY. Wow. Seriously. I had to run out in freezing rain/snow acrooss the busy road to get cash from gas station (spending extra on fees). This place has High Prices. Main courses priced $25-30+. What cash?- CUSTOMER SERVICE. I believe the 2 waitresses (older woman and yonger girl) were relatives of the owner/cook? They have no clue how to service, what dishes consist off and 99% of the time glued to their phones (texting, instagraming, etc) and sitting around where they feel like.- FOOD. Well. Nothing special at all. We returned one dish as being impossibly oversalted and cook/owner was nice to take it off from our bill.I was dining with my son as weve heard a lot about this place. Not going back.
Delicious food. It was so good I ate way too much.
Great food, good sized portions, reasonable prices....
Growing up in Brooklyn we were literally minutes from NYC where some of the best restaurants on earth were visited often (Peter Luger, Old Homestead, Bamontes, etc) after moving to New Jersey we were concerned that the food quality would be that of chains (Chilis, Fridays etc) which are fine but I much rather the small hole in the wall where the Owners are the operators and I know my money is going towards one of the kids college tuitions versus a big corporation. My wife and I stumbled upon Velo in 2017, they had great reviews and were excited to give a try. Like an addictive drug we have found ourselves at Velo more and more as time goes on. The problem here is each time we go, the meal is better then the last. We now visit Velo every 3-4 weeks.Last night we went for Valentine’s Day, the Chef recommended a nice 2 lb lobster which he said he’d grill with butter and I believe cognac (I was already dreaming about the lobster by this point, and my attention drifted)For apps we had:-Arugula salad, with blood orange, shaved pecorino and grilled artichoke hearts in vinaigretteAnd-Homemade buratta (fresh mozzarella stuffed w ricotta, yeah ur mouth should be getting a bit moist) with pomegranate, figs, toasted homemade bread and drizzled with honey (you’re prob drooling and you should be)EntreesMy 2lb lobster was AMAZING (and I’ll tell u a secret, I’m not big into lobster) served with roasted fingerling potatoes and string beans. My wife had her “go to” seared sea scallops with risotto and wilted spinach, she can eat this 7 days a week, it’s that good.Dessert (we had no room so we took to-go, as you should too)Red velvet cheesecake w graham cracker crust was greatLemon bread pudding with homemade whipped cream (ARE U FK’n KIDDING ME?!) this was a close 2nd to my child being born and getting married to the love of my life, it was that good.Let me mention they also have their staple items which are also amazing:- crab cake (as big as ur face)- fish and chips (England sit down)- buffalo cauliflowerI can’t say enough good about Velo, it’s family run, service is always stellar, Jennifer waitress / Owner is awesome, Matt the Chef is beyond skilled.FAQ- BYO? Yes- Cash only? Yes- days open? Fri-Sat from 4pm ONLY! (Please open more days, please!)- menu? Changes with seasons, it’s different each week and once they sell out of an item it’s crossedoff the menu.- portions? HUGE!Get there early, order a lot, share it all, bring home a doggie bag and have lunch the next day.
Very good, try the Key Lime pie.
Great food and great service. I would go again
My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try this place for about a year. Every time we had a chance to go it was closed. Do not listen to the hours listed on google. That’s one of the reasons I’m giving it four stars. But after adding them on facebook it was easier to see if they were open as they post it daily on their page. I know they are also trying to be open more regularly. Aside from that the food was absolutely fantastic. I had pan seared rare tuna and he had bbq ribs. The food was absolutely fantastic! I definitely recommend the ribs. The bbq sauce was spicy and the corn bread was amazing. We also had dessert which I recommend as well. Everything is hand made right down to every side dish and dessert. And I could tell it’s made with love and Care. The atmosphere was great, the decor was cute. The second reason I’m giving it 4/5 is because it was freezing! The restaurant has space heaters throughout so I’m not sure if they have a heating system? We were seated in the back, farthest from the door, right next to a space heater and I was still cold. Other than those things the place was great and I will return.
First visit to Velo was fantastic. Scallops done perfectly. Yum.
Female owner was very rude. My two friends and I had just sat down and she was already trying to rush our entree order. Mind you it was 4:30 on a Saturday and the place was empty. We asked for more time to decide after our appetizers and she proceeded to sit at a table across from us with a disgusting and impatient look on her face. The food was delicious which is ashame because the owner has a nasty attitude. Needless to say we wont be back. Other reviews mention her poor attitude as well. Should have done my research!
If I could give it no stars I would. The food was the worst Ive ever had and I go out to eat a lot. Female owner was extremely rude!! Idk how they are still in business. Never again would I eat at this establishment
Great atmosphere and gear flavors of foods. Definitely will be back.
Best food in Ocean County. Cauliflower, lobster, and the bread are to die for!
Great food, but small and no reservations
Where do I begin? I walked in the door at 430 pm on a Friday with my Jewish girlfriend (her name is Heidi Ann). We proceeded to seat ourselves because the red haired harridan, whom I assume to be the owner, was too busy berating her teenage daughter for not being pretty enough, or something of that ilk. I wasnt really listening. Immediately after sitting down we were harshly accosted by the owner (henceforth to be referred to as R.H.H.). She hissed in Heidis face You cant sit there!!. No explanation or apology just the same forced and sickly smile that she wore plastered on her timeworn face for the entire evening. - - - to be continued- -
Menu Man highly recomends the New England clam chowder & the fish & chips (steak fries).5 STARS !
Average. Just a bunch of old timer customers that dont know what good food taste like anymore, prices are high for unseasoned blandish food.
Great food and service!!!! All fresh seafood and huge portions.
Great food! Great desserts! BYOB
Very good but small place good for the family
Excellent food, priced on par with the areas eatery.
Outstanding food at reasonable prices
Updated review:Everything was delish. Mini Meatball appetizer could be a meal by itself! Then on to the Almond Parmesan Crusted Flounder served with delicious polenta. Alongside was the Miso Marinated Cod Loin with seaweed salad and udon noodles. Both dishes were nicely presented and the freshest of catches. Nothing beats the Almond Caramel Macchiato Cheesecake though... We even got an order of the cheescake to go for tomorrow night! Keep it up guys, thanks for a great dinner!-----We hope the local area continues to grow because foot traffic would be great for Velo. We cant wait to go back to try the always-changing menu. Our choices for dinner were fresh and nicely presented. All 3 courses were innovative and obviously homemade from scratch. BYOBs like this are hard to find these days so we want to keep this in our short list of great lunch/dinner spots.
Best place to eat in oceancounty, hands down
What a great little find! So glad we got to go here.
Three times this site said it was open and it was closed. Very frustrating, not sure how you run a business like this
Really cute interior, good menu, pleasant staff.
I felt we were being rushed in and out to make room for more customers since the place is so small
Outstanding meal. I am going back.
Fantastic food! Matt is amazing!!!
Best place in time river.
Cash only but no ATM inside have to run across street to 7 eleven
Best clam chowder
The Best place in Toms River....!
I was going to eat there yesterday, there was a sign on the door, the sign said the place was closed for today and cash only
Amazing meals everytime
Pricey for having no ambiance... Foods okay...
GREAT FOOD.
Excellent
