Nijiya is an outstanding japanese neighborhood market. Their selection of meats is small but impressive. The selection of fish is outstanding. There is a good variety of Asian vegetables with some organics. They have a wide variety of prepared Asian sushi and sashimi. There is also a small but good internal restaurant with a nice selection of Asian noodle dishes. Nikita is slightly expensive but the quality is worth pricing. This market is primarily for those with an interest in Asian foods.
Well, its a market, not a supermarket so I guess taking that into consideration its not too bad. Decent selection of things. There was one item I was looking for that they didnt have but I dont recall what it was. A different variety and emphasis on fruits and vegetables like the huge pile of Jack-fruit. Interesting.
Picked up some lunch foods and it was good. Hand rolls, karage, salad, pork katsu, etc. They have it fresh and ready made, never disappointed.
High quality fresh organic makes Nijiya Market the Whole Foods of the Japanese markets. Large verities of sushi and fresh prepared meals to take along with you or if you can’t wait just warm up using the on site microwave, have a seat either inside or outside and eat away. Also do the same ordering off the menu, nothing fancy, noodle and rice dishes that are made with fresh ingredients that you can taste and best of all priced right.
Organic Japanese. Smaller of the chain Japanese groceries but the largest selection of organic Japanese produce. Best bento box choices. Due to the small size they offer less selections of the other Japanese grocery store and they cost more. Come here for the organic produce, organic rice and bento boxes.
Been a customer for 12 years and love it. This particular location is better and different than the one on Little Tokyo (love that spot too) because of the Cafeteria they have where they have a special menu to order from with the newspapers / advertisements on the side. They have shopping carts & small carts of your choice. I used to always shop for the Sapporo Ichiban noodles (🐔,spicy 🐔, & the creamy one), Ramune sodas, Mocha Ice Creams, you name it. They have a bakery section as well with cakes for special occasions (or just because lol). Its better to register for a membership card to get products on sale. The employees are very helpful as well. Definitely recommend for any consumers of Japanese culture
Not as big as Marukai, but they have fresher looking produce, and I like their deli a lot more too.
Well kept stock. Great workers and Staff concern and observant professional. Environment clean. Safe friendly. Enjoyed all areas. Thanx for the experience
If you love Japans culture of beautifully prepared, jewel like bento boxes, to go sushis, quick meals, sashimi trays, egg salad and tonkatsu sandos, then this is the deli for you. Pop in and grab a bento meal complete with rice, miso soup, and fried tempura goodies; tote it to a beach picnic or for Netflix and chill sessions at home.
Produce is great but expensive.Nigiri is amazing, sushi rolls are ok. I always go in for some sun ramen kits and refrigerated noodles. Their seafood quality looks great.
Really adore this place! This brings me back to the little Japanese Markets I grew up with back home. You can get fresh meats and produce. Beverages and dry staples from rice to spices. Not to mention the bakery and deli where you can pick up a bento box lunch to fresh bread and pastries! An absolute gem!!!
I frequently visit to buy fresh produce or for their bakery goods. My family enjoys getting their simple strawberry cake. The last time I visited was last month. I went to buy a cake, and there was an elder Japanese woman working behind the bakery counter. She greeted me in Japanese which I wasnt too surprised by, but the manner in which she greeted me was something to note. She was emotionless in her voice without making eye contact the whole transaction. When I paid for the cake, she handed me back my credit card which I proceeded to place inside of my wallet. During that time she also tried handing me the receipt, but my hands were still preoccupied. She just tossed the receipt toward me and then went about her business. I figured she must have had a long day with the whole pandemic happening now, so hopefully shes feeling better these days.
Nice clean store but selection is limited and items are a bit more pricey than other stores.
Really nice little Japanese market, they have everything you need and some. Employees are nice and I go here to get some currybread (if they dont have any on display you can ask, I got some fresh made).
The staff an the store is always clean an great items. Dont sleep on picking up some hot or cold food to eat. Its very good
Enjoying finding all my favorite Japanese ingredients here. The hot food bar is great.Sushi rolls make for a quick lunch on the go. Friendly, clean and the register never has long lines.
I only went in for ice so I didnt really look around and I didnt see other prices but I will never go back in there again especially for ice I paid $3 and something for a teeny tiny bag of ice that was probably barely two or three lb if that I learned that you could get a 7lb bag at the dollar store for 99 cents
This place opens later than the other Japanese supermarket. They have a collaboration with Cream Pan which delivers the yummy strawberry croissant and other desserts and 🍞 on Mon, Wed and Sat without much of a markup compared to the regular Cream pan all the way in Tustin. But their average prices on groceries is higher than Marukai. This when they had a good fair.
Nijiya ready made bento has gone sooo downhill. I bought chicken karaage...it was soooooo oily that the oil sat at the bottom of the container and the oil tasted like they just skimmed it and didnt change it for some time before frying. Eeeyuck. I bought a small tray of california roll that looked great because the avocado looked fresh, but it tasted weird because the imitation crab wasnt prepared right or something. Nothing like the food used to be. Cheaper chef?
Excellent bento boxes and freshly prepared meals on site.
Fresh produce @good price
I Lived near this market for many years, and now that I moved, I miss going here. I only buy my salmon fish from this place because I can be assured that is fresh . Though it is pricey. I drive now all the way here just for that.Place is clean, and workers seemed nice and helpful, they are always doing something. Power to those hard working EMPLOYEES, I just hope they get remunerated it for their hard work.!!!!!
Quintessential Japanese market. Bento, sushi, packaged Japanese snacks. Great!
This place is a hidden gem! Its a smaller neighborhood market that actually carries a lot of products! Id recommend getting their ready to eat meals/food. They are fresh and delicious. You wont be disappointed! Also there is a person that guards the door to regulate patrons from going in/out due to COVID. Dont be surprised if he pops out of nowhere as he is Nijiyas Naruto! Be prepared! Youve been warned.
Came here for the first time today to pick up some sashimi for Mother’s Day lunch at home. There is a large selection of hot and cold pre-made foods to choose from. I got a mixed sashimi pack with salmon, tuna, hamachi, and octopus for $15. It came with wasabi but no soy sauce. Also got grilled mackerel for $2.99 and some pickled vegetables for $2.99. The sashimi is really fresh. The grilled mackerel was meaty. The pickled veggies were way too salty. I wanted to get dango but unfortunately didn’t see any.
Love this market. 🥰
Some high quality and hard to find food items. Friendly staff. Mainly Japanese food. Natto selection (for those who care). Good Sushi & Nigiri. On the higher price end.
Excellent lettuce and seafood. Take away food is always fresh
Super clean grocery store. Best place to get very fresh organic food such as sushi and produce.
Consistency is the word for this spot. Easy check out - Omotenashi!
Feel like Im in Japan when Im there they have everything that I would find if I were in Japan! Love this market great tea seafood and vegetables.
Just similar to the asian market in Del Amo fashion mall.
Well stocked and clean.
I actually go to 2 spots, Boba Time and Happy sushi. Parking can be found, but anything right in front of the restaurants is 10-20 minutes
Big selección of asian food at very good prices
Love this place you can find good hot foods to go
Found almost everything we needed to make home made ramen.
A great neighborhood store. Good produce and grocery selection and their grab and go food selection might be the best in the South Bay. Service is very competent and friendly.
I always come here for the premade food. Place is clean. Great service.
Awesome Japanese supermarket! Everything I miss from Japan is right here. Very clean! Fresh meat, seafood and produce. Hamachi kama, please.
Japanese market, but they have a bakery, awesome cakes,
Fresh sushi at reasonable prices.High quality produce.Wide assortment of Oriental products.Diligent sanitation practices.Courteous cashiers and staff.
Great place at great prices. Have interesting items like pans( curry, vegetable, ect) will come again
Always a great market when I cant be in Japan
Great place for a quick lunch. They always make avocado rolls for me when they are out of the premade rolls.
Wide variety of high quality foods, big selection of Japanese beauty products, kitchen goods.
Love the small area for food and snacks. It is a great small market and grocery store.
This place is good to shop if you lot of time. Lot of variety stuff. Lots of choices.
The only store where I found the tempura dip.
Great store, very clean and safe. They limit the number of people in at any one time
I like Nijiya market
Japanese market, always clean, usually find hard to find Japanese products.
Came for the Bento box lunch and sushi
A little pricey but their food is fresh
The only drawback that I noticed from this market is that its a little small and sometimes theyre out of side dish items or bento boxes. This store contains a lot of items you would find at H Mart at a decent price. They also have more bento box types than a lot of other stores when they are in stock. The store is a go to must have if you enjoy Asian cuisine and like to find things that you may not find at other stores in the States.
Nice service, but less stuff than Tokyo Central. No personal bags allow. Store provides free bag.
1000th review
They sell all the best products asia has to offer
This place is a hit or miss with product availability and even in quality. I have bought stuff from the freezer section not really checking expiration date that were already expired. The fast hot foods bar is an awesome idea but sometimes, stuff just sits in there and it does not take great (again it depends on how lucky you are with the freshness).
Always clean and well kept 👍
Always good prices and nice helpful people here.
Excellent produce selection. Pretty much the best market around.
Nijiya is an over-priced market that caters to the Japanese food culture. One whole chicken uncooked sells for $17+. I can go to any big chain grocery store and buy a whole chicken thats cooked for about a third of their price. I do not recommend this store. They do have a large selection of fish you wont find at most stores.
If only they actually took ebt.. 🤔
Pristine and clean with a wide selection of products you wont be able to find anywhere else. The staff are all polite as well.
Best market for pre-prepared food like sushi, croquettes, aji-fry, and the like. Cafe Kobo is also great, especially their cakes with whipped cream frosting.
Great service, clean store. Good quality produce, things like satsuma oranges and Fuji apples when in season. Some things pricey but its a specialty Japanese grocery store. They have a counter service restaurant inside the market, decent food at good prices, premade and made to order dishes
I like that there are tables here to eat your ready made food items. You can heat up leftovers or make some top ramen with the hot water. What I did was buy dozens of oysters from a place a few doors down. I shucked the hell out of these oysters. Everyone was looking at us which I like to think they were all jealous of our working meal.
Great place for oriental food
Great place to shop!! Plenty of parking. . .great service! Ready to eat food, drinks & desserts!! Need help preparing a meal?? Ask anyone. . Shopper or employee. . Everyone was friendly and answered every question.
Efficient and friendly staff🙂
Nice japanese market.
We love Nijiya. Fresh food. Excellent produce. All of our favorite Japanese foods, drinks, and snacks.
Many Japanese products including their original ones. I love their variety of bento boxes Its pricey though.
It is clean, and they carry high quality, often organic items. Very fresh produce. The staff is helpful and pleasant.
Good deals and I found some hard to find items. The food course had decent selections, good portions and tasty food.
I love love love love this market. It’s like a adult candy shop but better. The insane amount of prepared food plus the experience of grocery shoppings
If I dont have time to cook dinner this is my favorite place to get warm dinner and desert. I really like Japanese food and at at this store I can find almost everything. But the most important is customer service: they always ready to help! They not just friendly and nice you can feel the family atmosphere and it makes me want to be there every day (if I can). Also I like that they extended store hours from 9pm to 10pm.
Best treats to eat. Meats are great and produce fresh.... if you want fast food quickly and delicious here is your place,... poke sushi, etc;....
Good market for Japanese foods, however, though their price is not cheap compare to other Japanese groceries, their quality is sometimes bad. Ive got eggplant few days ago, and one of those were completely not for selling condition. But that side was hidden at packaging. It is kind a sad...
Growing up in Northern California, Ive been lucky to have diverse offerings when shopping for groceries and quick bites. I am pleased to find there are several amazing options here too in Southern California. Nijiya is definitely one of the best Ive been to anywhere! The produce section is pricey, but everything else is reasonably priced. The sashimi is sushi grade, the ready made salads are amazing, and I love, love, love their cold Sake/Beer/Wine section! They even have a nice patio with bistro tables if you want to sit and enjoy the scenery while enjoying the days finds. Oh, and if you go after 7pm, youll get discounts on the prepacked and deli items.
Don’t take ebt
Very friendly staff. Would go there every chance i get.
Sushi was fresh and delicious. Rice was best I ever had.
Best Japanese Market for authentic food. They even teach you about blue fin tuna
Ok
Love their bento plates
Good organic veggies. Tons of different and fresh bentos. Great place for a quick Japanese bite.
