Awesome selection of fresh produce, meats and pre-made dishes. The food is fantastic and the staff was extremely eager to help and aided in making a selection! We will be coming back often to support this local buissness!

Decided to try this new restaurant tonight and was not disappointed! Shared mahi tacos, coconut rice, refried black beans and pomegranate guacamole. Our server was very thorough and attentive. Excellent michelada (La jefa), which was one of many different versions they had available, that all sounded delicious. Will be back!

This wonderful little market is full of authentic Hispanic items and products. The staff is great, bilingual, hard working and friendly. Best tamales Ive ever had are readily available in convenient packs to supply any sized gathering.

Very clean well kept organized and welcoming feeling customer service was great had a little conversation about the location and they seem very happy there. Ready to try their food now.

I had carnita taco dinner they were excellent! I walked in ordered to go and done in +-5min. Meal and a drink was $10 will definitely be back! Came with 3 tacos and some really good seasoned radish.

My wife & I had dinner there last night. The food was great! The enchilada dinner & the Carnita dinners were excellent! The portions were generous! We will be back!!!

Saw someone post about not sure if it was real steak and suggested it was horse meat....this guy is full of it! Amazing tacos for a buck fifty on Tuesday! Tamales and Menudo over weekends! The burritos were great sized and you can actually taste the skirt steak!! We’re overjoyed to find this place coming from Chicago!! Very friendly staff also! Chips are a little stale, and the salsa is kind plain- just ask for the chipotle hot sauce!!

Grocery side was neat but restaurant side left much to be desired. I dont know how to explain it, but the chicken taco was the only thing that I could actually stomach, and I love Mexican food!

There are several choices for Mexican food in Valpo, and weve found most of them to be just...okay. (I often find them disappointing, or stomach-achey.) But I was pleasantly surprised at La Mexicana this week. The food was interesting, differentiated from the norm with good spices and cheeses, and it felt like the plate was made up carefully with a kind of pride in the food coming from the kitchen. (I got the enchiladas and made them vegetarian with some extra avocado. My husband got La Mexicana plate (with shrimp and such) and he was a big fan.) Friendly service, and a great meal.

Great authentic mexican food. Very reasonably priced. The dining room is a bit small, but not cramped. And a bonus, Saturdays & Sundays you can pick up tamales, carnitas, barbacoa, etc. Definitely recommend

Food was bad, taste like the grilled hasn’t been cleaned ever. Had a long wait for your food and when you get it it’s cold. No wait for the check, that they give you before the food.

This place, though small, has many traditional food staples for Mexican cuisine and snacks. This is what you would call a fonda; 1/2 grocery store, 1/2 restaurant. It is very clean, the employees are bilingual, and the menu has some classic, true, traditional Mexican entrees-- and I am not talking about Menudo. The prices are reasonable and the servings are generous. The location is safe and convenient for me. And it sure beats goin to Chicago or E.C. for some of my pantry needs.

2 shrimp and 2 steak tacos, no cilantro please and a side of rice, all to go.Everything was soggy and covered in cilantro.I bet their orders would be more accurate if the girl at the till could stop messing with her phone while customers are placing their orders.As for the kitchen staff, they would benefit with refresher training from Coolwood.Bring back Coolwood. !!

I felt like I was judge right when I walked in the door. I felt like i wasnt mexican enough because i dont know how to speak the language. The whispering in a different language and the looks I got were rude. Overall the food was great i was happy to find a Mexican store were i stay. I recommend the food alot..

First and last time there. Ordered a beef burrito to go. Opened it up and it was like a soup Burrito. Tried to pick it up and it fell apart. I threw the whole thing out.
