Perfect little studio for shedding on your own. Big rooms are great for bands and there are also solo piano rehearsal rooms as well. All of the rooms are fully equipped with top of the line gear and all of the gear is well maintained. If a problem arises with the house gear, the staff will replace it quickly and efficiently. I witnessed this first hand.As a working drummer of almost 30 years, I love the fact that I do not have to bring any gear aside from my stick bag. You can adjust all of the kits to your specifications so that maximum playability can be obtained. The rooms are soundproofed so well that you can play as loud as you want and make as many mistakes as needed without disrupting other drummers/musicians and bands doing their thing. Each solo practice room comes with a small amp/pa combo for light jamming, a music stand(for my charts), and finally and most important point of all, the prices cannot be beat. The happy hour special is a life saver.A special place indeed.
Taking drums lessons there and its one of the best decision Ive made.
Beautiful place and affordable prices. Definitely recommend!
Very cool venue and practice spaces - friendly people too!
This is a unique and wonderful place. Amazing that you can find a fully kitted practice space for such a reasonable price in the city. The people who work here are super friendly and helpful. A great place to practice and attend community events during normal times, and such a wonderful escape to de-stress and play some music during these crazy times.
The best. My son takes drum lessons here, I practice solo and with bands here. Just a great place with awesome people. Love that its part of our community
I just recently became a student at 7DrumCity learning how to play the drums and its been a blast so far! My onboarding process was smooth, I discussed what I was looking for and my interests with Miles. I was paired with Isabelle who is awesome! This is my first experience learning a new instrument as an adult and Im very impressed with the location, clean practice rooms with great equipment, COVID precautions they are taking seriously and people. The prices are also reasonable and they have many membership options for various budget ranges. Jasmine and Eman were at the front desk during my first visit and made me feel very welcome as well as gave me a thorough tour. I look forward to meeting more people in this great community!
7DC is THE place to be if you’re a musician in the DMV. This space has it all: Ample rehearsal space, lessons with seasoned local musicians, open jam events, Flashband, and now full-on shows with the opening of The Pocket. Miles (the owner) has poured his time and energy into making 7DC one of the most welcoming environments in the local scene. You’re guaranteed to meet lots of really cool people no matter your reason for coming.
Seven Drum City is one of the main Hubs of the DC music scene. First rate practice facility at great prices and a great place to meet other musicians in the scene. Great service and lessons.
Just saw nappy nappa here last night at their intimate concert venue called the pocket. Super fun, will definitely be back, follow them on social media for more info. Major props to places like these that help keep the local music scene sustainable and foster local talent.
Great facility, excellent staff! We hosted an event in the Carriage House upstairs. The sound system was spot-on, plenty of power and punch! My guests were all treated very well, and everything from the studio to the restrooms were clean and well-maintained. I had a couple small special requests, and they were handled without any complaints or that wasnt what you originally requested. A very well-run operation, I look forward to returning soon!
7 Drum City is a treasure! They have *amazing* teachers that are helping my son develop a genuine love of music, and serve as mentors and role models, as well as teachers. Moreover, 7 Drum City has a great, chill vibe, with friendly, helpful staff, and is a fantastic place to practice (and more than just drums) or hang out and talk music. 7 Drum City is the best place in DC to learn an instrument, but also an integral part of the DC music scene. Were lucky to have 7 Drum City!
Miles is a great teacher who goes out of his way to enrich the learning, who is patient and generous with his time, and whose love of music shines through in his teaching.I began taking drumming lessons with Miles back in May 2013. I had taken some lessons with another teacher about 8 years before but my skills were rusty and I had forgotten a lot. In the short time Ive been with Miles hes totally reworked and improved my skills and taken me to a whole new level. I started out struggling to play basic beats, and now Im learning the Led Zeppelin song When the Levee Breaks, a big jump.Miles used to have a mini-studio set up in his Capitol Hill-area home; recently he opened a full studio/drum school near the 9:30 Club, where lessons are now held. He takes a holistic approach, teaching you equally the mechanics of drumming -- what you do with your hands and the sticks, how to read drumming charts, and how to actually play the music . Hes very patient, taking the time, for example, to break down part of a beat into real small pieces and go over it with me again and again when Im stuck, always encouraging and supportive. This has really helped me: I began learning more advanced beats and then songs much faster than I expected.Miles usually ends our lesson by jamming with me on his guitar while giving me feedback or recommendations on the beat(s), which is one of my favorite parts of the lesson -- and a really fun way to learn. He also has recorded my drumming along to songs and played it back for me. At the end of each lesson, he writes out the beats weve worked on and what I need to learn. He has also given me drumming charts for songs I want to work on.I couldnt ask for a better drum teacher.
Recently started taking lessons here and this place is awesome. A lot of skilled musicians here passing down knowledge and very helpful staff. Jasmine helped me out a lot!
5 stars isnt enough to express how great this place is. 7 stars
Ive been taking lessons here for about 3 months and I love it. My teacher, Ben, is patient, caring, and over all fun. I feel like Ive drastically improved my mechanics and Im excited to see more progress. The free practice space for students has made it possible to play without having to own a kit at my house (and destroying any relationship with my neighbors). Im definitely pleased with my choice.
The best rehearsal spot in DC, hands down! The space is clean and welcoming, the available equipment is great, and booking process couldnt be easier (online). Theyve hosted potlucks and drum student performances, a real community vibe coming from this place.Miles, Mitchell, and the entire crew are dedicated musicians themselves, and are super supportive of the local music scene. Thanks 7Drum!
7DC has provided me more than a practice space; Miles and the 7DC team have provided me with a musical network of friends, opportunities to serve my community, and safe outlets to explore my creativity. It is because of 7DC that I have rediscovered my passion for music, and have become excited about the role music plays in the DC community
Simply put, this studio is AWESOME. The staff is incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful, and the gear is top notch. Prices are very reasonable as well (especially if bought as a package). Would recommend it to anyone looking to for a good rehearsal space.
It has been a wonderful experience having drum lessons with Andrew. He is very patient, knowledgeable, and knows exactly how to guide a novice drummer. Overall, Its a very good studio and staff are friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone who lives around and looks for drum lessons/rehearsal place.
7drum is an amazing resource for musicians! In an area with limited practice space, 7drum provides quality lessons and practice rooms, as well as helpful, knowledgeable and kind staff. 7drum goes above and beyond by supporting their community through sponsoring local events!
Ive been taking drum lessons from Miles for almost 2 years now. Miles is a great drum instructor, and Im really excited about this awesome new studio! I didnt know a ride cymbal from a high hat when I started, but Miles has ably taught me the basics - technique, rudiments, etc. - as well as how to play a bunch of awesome songs. Miles is very positive and encouraging and is very dedicated to helping his students learn and improve.
The coolest, chillest, most happening-est music studios to meet local musicians and practice in DC! Every time I bring a friend by, their jaws seriously drop. The team that works there (led by Miles Ryan), is super helpful, cordial, friendly, and make you feel right at home. I took drum lessons during the summer with John Heinze, who plays in a bunch of different bands throughout the city and was one of the most patient and kind teachers Ive ever met for a beginner like me. It is one of the best music studios in DC, and every room is sound proof. Definitely recommend!
My only regret is not starting drum lessons sooner. Miles gives you all the tools you need to get to the next level, while keeping it fun and interesting. The funk will increase rapidly from 0-10, and just when you think it cant get any funkier, he takes it to 11.
If youre looking to learn the drums and have a great time doing it, Miles is your guy.In the few months Ive been his student, hes taken me farther and taught me more skills on the drum set than I could have imagined when I began taking lessons. It also helps that Miles is a great guy, and very accommodating to his students needs.Miles lessons are very interactive and engaging. In a single lesson, you may go from learning and practicing the fundamentals (rudiments, writing/reading music, etc), to learning to crush songs on the set, and jamming with Miles as he accompanies you on his guitar. Of course, Miles is always open to tailoring lessons based on each students interests.Another great point is that because many of his students do the 9 to 5 grind (like me), he is always very understanding of my hectic work schedule and the fact that sometimes I may not be able to practice as much as I would like to during the week.As long as you come to each class ready to enjoy yourself and get better at playing, you are guaranteed to quickly improve your drumming skills with Miles.UPDATE: New studio is awesome, and adds a ton of value with the multiple practice rooms, and even a stage. Recently Miles hosted a student concert which was a great way to see what the other students are up to, and challenge yourself to play better by seeing other great players.
Ive been taking lessons here for a little more than a month. The lessons are tailored to what the student wants to learn and so far with John I have been working on a nice mix of rudiments, fundamentals and rock beats and fills. I feel like Ive progressed a lot in the time Ive been here. All the teachers Ive met are obviously passionate about their music and invested in making it a great experience for the student. The atmosphere is very welcoming and it really makes the lessons a lot of fun - every week I look forward to showing up a little early so I can hang out for a bit before the lesson starts. The place has a real feel of community for anyone interested in music and it makes coming in to practice something always look forward to.One of the most unique parts of the studio is the ability for students to reserve (free and easily online) practice space on a full drum set, which is nice if you dont have your own. Since the place is so welcoming I never hesitate to reserve a space and I actually look forward to coming in for practice outside my scheduled lesson.Ive tried taking lessons from home, going out to an instructor and through music stores before, for both drums and guitar, and my experience here has been heads and shoulders above any other. I highly recommend 7DrumLessons Drum Studio for anyone considering taking drum lessons, its been well worth the price of admission for me.- Dan
7 Drum City is one of the few places in the city that cares about creating an environment for artists to create. It is by far one of the most welcoming, nicest communities in the area, definitely a huge positive impact on the city.
Im so pleased Miles pulled this together and opened his doors. Its surprisingly difficult to find quality instruction for some reason in the area. And while there are tons of resources online - maybe too much actually - there is absolutely no substitute for professional provide feedback. 7DL provides a cool, comfortable, and conducive environment. I highly recommend it.
The owner Miles is dedicated to the DC music community and his space embodies that spirit! Its not only a place for lessons and practice space but a gathering spot for music lovers and friends. I highly encourage you to check 7DL out and show some love!
Its truly awesome here - just good people and good vibes. I started taking lessons when I was new to the city and until this point I was pretty skeptical of DCs music scene. Not only did this crowd prove me wrong, they pointed me in the direction of some of the best shows/ jam sessions/ places and people. They really care about making good music and hearing it. Worth your time, even if you just want to go to chill on the couch and listen to some new stuff.
7DL is the best. My band has been practicing there for over a year, and weve had nothing but absolutely awesome experiences. All of the available spaces and studios sound great and have top of the line equipment, and the staff that works there is great. On top of it all, Miles, the owner, does an amazing job of promoting and supporting the local music scenes. Weve met and become friends with a lot of great bands and musicians through our association with 7 Drum Lessons.
I have been practicing and taking lessons at 7DL for about six months now and I have been incredibly happy with my experience. The quality of lessons is great with teachers who not only know their stuff, but know how to transfer that knowledge to their students in an effective way. The staff is helpful and laid back. The variety of practice spaces is awesome and allows one to practice solo or jam with other musicians. Overall this is a fantastic stop to learn drums, practice drums or jam out.
Miles is a very patient, insightful, and motivating instructor who knows how to get your drumming to where you want it to be. Now in a beautiful new studio space, 7DrumLessons has everything necessary to teach the absolute beginner, the most advanced pro, and everyone in between. I have greatly enjoyed my time there, and I cant wait for my next lesson.
Incredible place - positive environment - good energy! Staff are extremely friendly, and individuals from all skill-levels/backgrounds are welcome. The group lessons are especially great for those seeking a cheaper alternative to private lessons. I always leave feeing good and look forward to lessons the next week!
Ever since One World Studios closed, this has been my go-to place for band rehearsals. Their performance room is huge, well kept and has great equipment! Miles runs a great business!
Great place, great space, great people. If youre looking for a place to practice, fantastic! You wont find better rates or friendlier service anywhere. If youre looking for a connection to the music scene in the community, you wont find friendlier service anywhere. 7DrumLessons creates the musical vibe youre looking for and helps you get in touch, and play music with other great musicians.
Great location; great equipment; & reasonably priced. I rent time here often to practice music prior to gigs. Great place for solo drummers to shed or to bring a band in for rehearsal space. Definitely recommend.
Miles is an awesome and fun teacher. Ive been taking lessons for 2 years and Ive learned all kinds of things such as marches, rock songs, jazz and much more. He holds student performance concerts every few months which gives me a chance to play in front of people. If you want to perform in a band, he is the best option for teaching in DC, and his new space is AMAZING!
Ive been using 7DL consistently for about a year now, and really have had only positive experiences. There are a range of rooms available to suit your needs, from a two-person jam session to rehearsal for a full 10-piece band. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the online booking system provides ample flexibility. Rates are reasonable- about on par with what other studios in the area charge. The only negative thing I can say is that its a shame there arent more places like this in DC, because the rooms book up quite far in advance (you generally need to reserve a week in advance for a weekend slot, and several weeks in advance for a weekday evening).
Like many I found out about 7DrumLessons via a Google search. Miles took me from no drum experience to being able to jam with other people in only a couple of months. His method focuses on a mixture of essential rudiments and fun, well known songs. Many times he will pick up a guitar and jam with you during the lesson. His approach helps students become well rounded drummers rather than masters of one or two songs.
This is an awesome place with lots of positive energy and a staff that takes its commitment to drumming very seriously. As an advanced student I am looking to further my repertoire and toolbox with odd meters, Afro-Cuban, brush technique, improved chops, double bass drum technique, transcription of more advanced grooves. I was paired with instructor Andrew Toy and this has been a great success! Andrew is the consummate instructor who accentuates the positive, gives great feedback and is brimming with ideas and creative mojo. He is pushing me to the edges of my comfort zone and this is how one improves...yet he has tremendous patience. We start each 45-minute lesson w/ hand technique and snare soloing...even after decades of drumming, I still have improvement to make in the very basics, and Andrew was quick to identify my weaknesses. I cant say enough great things about this studio - it is truly mecca for drummers of all abilities in our region!
Such an awesome spot! The tutors are super knowledgable and patient, and everyone is so friendly. I couldnt think of a better environment to learn or practice a new instrument.
Surprisingly DC is very sparse when it comes to practice space for bands. 7Drum Lessons offers multiple rooms to meet different needs including a few smaller downstairs rooms, a large performance room, and a Jam Hub area where you can have silent jams that go later than the 9PM quiet times. Online booking also adds to the overall positive experience I have had there. PA, amps, and drum sets are provided.
People are great. Instruments are far better than other places in DC. Very competitive. I have rented their stuff and use their rooms for band practice.
Amazing and affordable practice spaces for local DC bands. Great location and nice equipment. Miles and company are huge supporters of the local music community. Definitely worth getting to know the 7DL team!
An AWESOME place to play music and practice. Super convenient location, great people, affordable rates, and a phenomenal space. As a local musician, I couldnt ask for anything more!
Love 7DL! Its a great rehearsal space and the people that work there are chill and helpful. And sometimes a dog hangs out and IT. IS. GREAT.
Ive taken lessons, practiced solo, and rehearsed with bands at 7DL. Each time being optimal and awesome. The space is equipped with everything you need to jam, and the 7DL team has effortlessly made me feel comfortable, assisted, and welcomed. Its very easy to book a room online and I enjoy the personal contact I have with my teacher and the managing staff. Also, having gotten to know most teachers from hanging out makes it tempting to want to take lessons with each one, who have so much to offer! I wish the best to this rocking studio and highly encourage all to partake in all it has to offer. 5 Stars!
Best rehearsal space in DC is the upstairs performance room. And its become a central hub for meeting other musicians. Miles is The Man and 7DL is The Spot.
7DL has become a home for our band. The space is a cozy, converted row house with a range of spaces for lessons, band rehearsal, and even public events. Miles (the owner) and his team are really building a community of musicians here.
Ive used 7DL both to rent practice space and as a student on drums. The practice space component is great- it is so difficult to find anyplace in DC and not only are there drum kits but also PAs and soundboards in the rooms. The lessons are excellent- the instructors are not only amazing drummers but also good, patient teachers that work well with a wide variety of students, from kids to adults, in all genres that you might want to learn.
7DL is an amazing place to practice, hang out or learn something. Miles is a really great guy. My band had been practicing there, but due to the lack of availability one night, we scheduled to play somewhere else. But since I wasnt paying attention, I didnt notice the venue change.. and showed up at 7DL around 10 pm. Miles was there, and of course, a little confused. But friendly and engaging, and we ended up getting some business done anyway.Great place run by a great guy.
7DL is more than just a place for lessons, and rehearsals. Miles and the team have created a community for DC musicians. Thanks to 7DL, I have not only met new musicians but more importantly, Ive made a lot of new friends. Keep up the great work guys!!
7DrumCity is among the world’s best music spaces and musician communities, right in the heart of DC. This establishment is becoming the heart of DC’s blossoming music scene and is reinvigorating the Bloomingdale neighborhood with arts and foot traffic.
I took my first drum lesson when I was 9. Ive taken them on and off ever since, at a handful of drum studios, houses, schools, you name it. Probably had close to a dozen teachers over the years.7DrumLessons is, bar none, the best environment Ive been in for recreational music lessons. Amazing space, great location, good variety of knowledge and styles taught. Its a godsend if you dont have a drum set at home to practice on - students get access to the studio to practice when they dont have a lesson. Its the kind of place where, after a lesson, you might find yourself going to see some live music with your teacher. They love the craft and are itching to share it with others.
Theres a reason we lock this place down each week to rehearse... because there isnt a better place that advocates for musicians, creates community, or has the space to do so in DC. Boom! [ Mic drop ]-Catch on the Keys
Awesome rehearsal space. My band practices there every week. If youre tired of rundown spaces with shitty equipment, try out 7DL. Their equipment is state-of-art and drummers dont need to bring anything! The location is easy, and the staff is great.
Not only the best drumming school in DC, but a great creative space for musicians of all sorts. The rehearsal space is impeccable, the vibe is just brisk, and the community you build is truly wholehearted.
This is my favorite spot in DC. For both band practice space, or for the drum lessons i am taking there.John is the man, as a teacher, and miles does a great job managing this amazing space
7DC is a #1 resource for musicians of all experiences and backgrounds. Based on inclusion and putting community first, anyone can come to this space for a place to learn or get connected to a larger network of artists and like minded individuals in the city.
If you need a place to rehearsal or just wanna jam out to some music, this is the place! Great environment, reasonable priced, nice gear, great people and wonderful staff.
Best spot for funky jams in DC
Best place to learn drums in DC. Lots of practice space that comes free with the lessons, great culture and people.
I came to 7DrumLessons with no musical back ground and no clear plan except to try something I had wanted to do for years. Miles listened to what I wanted to accomplish (have some fun, learn to play), and helped set small and attainable goals. Before long, I was playing the drums! Rudimentary skills, plus some fun and challenging beats - mixed with his affable and knowledgeable teaching style has made each lesson a great experience. Miles has been patient when I havent been able to master (or practice) a particular element, and continues to look for ways to make each skill easier to learn. As a bonus, my sessions at 7DL have taught me an appreciation for the artistic aspect of playing the drums. 7DrumLessons offers great instruction, a great (new) facility and the motivation to improve. Could not ask for more!
The first thing that struck me about 7DL was how laid back and welcoming the environment was. I put off drum lessons for years for several reasons, one of the biggest being that I always assumed Id be corralled into a kids-oriented program or be expected to have at least some musical background. However, Miles and the rest of the 7DL staff quickly made learning to play drums seem like a very attainable goal. The studio is geared toward adults (though kids can take lessons, too) and the private, one-on-one lessons make for a great learning experience. Being able to use the practice space free of charge is also great for someone like me who does not own a drum set.No matter you age or ability level, If youve ever thought about learning the drums or improving your skills 7DL is definitely the place to go.
I highly recommend the top-notch facility and staff at 7DrumLessons on 2008 8th street NW in D.C.Miles Ryan and his team of professionals have a wealth of experience, knowledge, and hospitality to provide any aspiring or veteran musician with the tools they need to increase the funk on a trap kit.The room variety gives musicians a choice between small and cozy, to big and open. Great for simple spot demoes and multi track recording too! They also host events that support the local community of musicians and artists.Get the funk up at 7DL!
7Drum Lessons is a great studio if youre looking to learn drums or guitar, or rent space as a band or solo musician. For renting practice space in DC, it is a totally amazing find in an excellent location right off U Street, and the gear and the facility are top quality. Its really hard to find available practice space for bands in DC, and 7DL is so much more comfortable and reliable than the basements or other places bands may resort to playing in, if you can find space at all. Also, booking online is really easy, and Miles and the whole 7DL crew are great. I found 7DL online while looking for practice space over a year ago, and Ive been coming back ever since, to rent space with other musicians, and as part of Flashband, a great organization you should also check out that puts local musicians together in bands playing songs around a theme, to practice and play a show over the course of a month. 7DL has been a great partner with that organization and its been a blast having such a great place to play music in DC.
HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION: I have been studying jazz and rock drumming for 27 years. Since 1988, I’ve taken many lessons from many great teachers in many different places. 7DrumLessons is the best I’ve seen yet. I started taking lessons at 7DrumLessons in 2014 with a very specific goal in mind: to jumpstart my drumming in the DC area and to integrate new skills into my repertoire. I came to 7DL to focus on targeted techniques including: odd meter, compound time signature, left hand lead, linear drumming, double bass drumming and more. I could not be more pleased with the results. Studying under Andrew Toy has been a perfect match for everything I had hoped for. My only regret is that I wish I had learned of the studio even sooner!
I love practicing here!
Hands down the best place in the DC metro area for any practicing/lessons/etc. The dog that hangs around the studio is also super chill.
