Very nice! Polite staff! A tad expensive. Wholesome experience ♡
Makes me happy to know theres still a genuine punk shop around in the area. Not many gems like this spot around anymore.I realize this is primarily a record shop but I wish they would expand their clothing section a little more with more variety. I still appreciated their selection though.Overall you will definitely want to pop in if youre of the punk/alternative scene. Youll enjoy it.
Best record store in town. Knowledgeable staff, top notch selection.
Walked in here earlier today looking to browse their vinyl selection. As I’m walking in, the guy at the front (red hair, white) asks me to leave my bag at the front, in an empty cardboard box. I agreed to do this, since I’m all for supporting small neighborhood stores, but as soon as I turn around I realize I’m the only one who has been asked to check their bag, and the other ~4 (white) customers are walking around with shoulder bags (like mine) and backpacks. I confronted the guy at the front about this and he literally just shrugged his shoulders and brushed off the situation. As a woman of color, I recommend you take your money to a different, better record store, instead of this bigoted establishment with “bag policies” that depend on the color of your skin.
Staff locks door and had to wait for them to unlock it. as soon as they let customers in they relock the door and make you leave your bags in a musty cardboard box. staff was very rude and followed me around my entire visit watching me. the selection is also poorly organized and quite petite.
Awesome vibes. Went with a friend who loves records and metal music, and he loved it too.
All things punk rock. Zines, music, apparel, real leather goods with quality studs n spikes, etc. My favorite record shop in the country!
Interesting shop but its a pity thats they have not computer data base of cds and vinils that they selling.
Not good at answering their phone! Need to do better!
I highly suggest coming here, even if you’re just window shopping this store has a lot to offer. This place truly perseveres punk, alt, indie, culture. Definitely the place to come if you’re looking for inspiration.
Great punk selection and good service
Great collection new and second handed
Nice selection of used records.
Awesome place. Love the environment, great selections of Punk, Heavy Metal and local artists. The staff members are really nice and helpful, also vintage band patches and records, reasonable prices and I highly recommend this place if you want to find some retro Punk and Heavy Metal records and you will also discover unfamiliar bands I guarantee youll love. Keep up the good work. (Y)
Smash is always a go-to whenever Im in that part of town.
Shop local, not corporate. Third location for D.C.s legendary brick-and-morter Punk Rock shop.
Small amount of vintage vinyl, mostly VG and less. Some decent bargains and a listening station. Mostly punk, metal and classic rock. Limited amount of other stuff. Refuses to give discounts and even has a sign up there.
Love SMASH Records!
The only reason this isn’t 5 stars for me is personal taste. The staff was friendly and they have a lot of music it just wasn’t my taste in music. Definitely head here if you want punk music.
Was some days in Washington and looking for a shop to buy some records. Finally I get out with 25 for a really descent price. Great classic rock and 70s choice find some gems. As well as some nice old school heavy metal promo records. Will definitely come back when I return to Washington.
Very neat record store. Lots of used CDs and new/used vinyl. They also have a variety of cassettes and VHS tapes as well as band shirts and a few other misc things. I would definitely recommend coming here.
Like any record store, its a crapshoot. Some days youll find nothing at all, a week later youll find a dozen of your very favorites. All luck of the draw. But this one has the advantage of selling clothing and electronics, and they have friendly staff. Recommended.
Its a nice local place to pick through a somewhat limited selection of records. Dont look for your favorite record here if youre not into the most popular music of the 60s/70s/80s or obscure punk bands.
Great mix of old school punk and newer records. Fun spot to browse through records
This place has everything. Great staff and great selection, including lots of punk, metal, and weirdo stuff. Zines, clothing, and random ephemeral finds too. Best shop in DC by a mile.
Really cool record store with great staff and amazing atmosphere
Totally impressed by the metal selection. Went there while on vacation. Amazing $3 bin. Found old school metal albums that I thought I wouldnt ever see. Will come back if I return to DC again!
Really cool selection of used CDs, found a lot of hidden gems for great prices. I highly recommend and will be returning soon!
Good record store with nice vintage collection. Not too metal though.
Good mix of music and cool swag. Worth the stop.
Awesome place when the other dudes I seen are there working. I just left right now cuz whoever the lady was with the tattoo on her right bicep couldnt even look me in the face when I had a question. Her phones obviously more important than providing good ol friendly customer service. Ill only be coming when the other ppl are working from now on
Best record store in the area (comparing with 4 others we visited on the same day). Great selection, very well organised and great prices too!
I came here once after a practice at the gym to buy something. The sales person was quite helpful. Reasonably priced clothes.
I recently bought a record player and went on a vinyl hunt around DC. This was the only store with both reasonable prices and an amazing selection. I walked out with about 10 records and didnt even hurt my wallet one bit. Got some gems from The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Sinatra, Ray Charles, Kool and the Gang, etc. This will be my regular stop from now on for vinyl. Also, they sell VHS tapes, including old WWF pay per views!
Friendly staff at this funky store. Lots of records and CDs to flip thru. Check out the zines, patches and stickers
Smash is the best DC record store and Matt is the coolest helpful guy youll ever meet.
Great used 📀
Great indie record shop!
Quaint little shop with helpful staff
Good selection of new/used vinyl
The staff treated customers as if they were shoplifters. Totally befuddled and a little annoyed. Plenty of other places to shop vinyls anyway. Oh well.
Great selection here, something for everyone
This place has been around since I have.. Its places like this that keep music alive.
All the punk albums you ever need
Nice Spot.
Was a little underwhelming, no hip hop selection.
Great selection of punk LPs
If you want punk, youve got it!
My kinda place
I have to say nothing,..............................................,...................shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Fabulous
Really a nice selection! The prices are ridiculously low and the seller is really nice.
Great attention Good catalog (clothing little variety)
Cool AF
