My relationship with John Smith started about seven years ago. My wife noticed her headlights were out of focus. New to the West Chester area, from New Hope, PA. she spontaneously stopped at John Smith Auto to schedule a fix. The office attendant said, let me take a look at that. Ten minutes later he returned and said all fixed. Shocked, Andrea said wonderful, how much do I owe you. With a humorous comment, your good, not a big deal! ..Since that moment, our four vehicles found a new service home, they all are serviced at John Smith. And now, my Son, and his wife also. And yep, even my former wife is now a customer. Just as importantly their service fees are very competitive. I am certain the auto dealer misses us!

I made no demands and the entire experience was supposed to be an inquiry for me. I wasn’t aggressive in negotiating or combative in any way.The sales boy Chris viewed me as a joke and waste of time. So much so that he called Mr. President over to interrogate me and put me in my place. “Let’s just see what he’ll sell HIS car for” was a phrased that was used. Knowing that I was no longer comfortable and he had the upper hand.The whole experience epitomized the negative feelings associated with buying vehicles. I understand that it’s a business and there is no changing the way it’s constructed.Be sure to avoid Chris. John seems like a decent person.

Perhaps since I have not received any response back from me several emails to both the salesman and President I will post my horrid experience here.In regards to the terrible service we received:We are going to take our business elsewhere. Unfortunately the sales experience was not up to standards from the very beginning. We came to your dealership looking to support a small business and because weve had great experiences from the service side. As soon as we arrived you were short and rude. Did not introduce your self and was far less motivated to move a car off of your lot. Especially since I have physical photos timed stamped showing the Prius has been on the lot since at least January 22nd. Now I know any other dealership would of strived to make the deal especially at the end of a month. When I arrived Saturday intending on purchasing the vehicle you did not bother to sit down with myself nor my mom and discuss any financials nor go over the vehicle. I had my current co buyer on the phone at that time you stated you would call him back in five minutes. Because the owner was unavailable and I could not proceed without you speaking to him. Which later to find out you did not call him and wasted my valuable time on Saturday. You send me a text message with no explanation just stated I was denied a loan. After only checking with one bank. You just now are reaching out to set up an appointment. You didnt care at all to do that on Friday when I met you for the first time. Didnt bother to call us to make an appointment to discuss financials. Didnt say hey were having a little bit of difficulty getting you approved we might need money down etc. Didnt offer anything. So no we will not be coming back to your dealership because you were nothing but terrible.

I had a great experience with Smith Used Cars.We live 2 hours away from the dealership, so all of the initial information I received was by phone and from photos. John was in constant contact with me, running back and forth, to and from the truck, to check for answers to my many questions. He took several pictures of key areas of the truck so that I had a full and true idea of the vehicle’s condition before we made the trek for purchase. I just took my car there and got it back for service. I wasnt sure what to expect because I had never been to the shop before, but everyone was very helpful and they even had a driver drop me back off at work once I took my car over! I was shocked that the exhaust was able to be replaced in a day because most other garages take much longer to repair things and at a higher cost. While Im not currently in the market for a new car, I was very impressed and satisfied with the service I received at this shop. Everyone I spoke to was knowledgeable and understanding of my wanting to get a quote before repairs would be made. I recommend this shop to anyone who may need to get their car serviced, theyre fast and transparent.

We have been having our cars serviced at John L. Smith for the past five years or so and have found them to be very honest, reasonable priced and courteous. I usually deal with Steve in service and he is always willing to answer all of my questions (which can often be numerous) and always explains things in terms that I can understand. I typically stay and wait for my car and I have taken notice how polite they are to everyone that comes in and also those that call on the phone. What a dealership I have got or blessed with!!! I should say they are the BEST dealer in West Chester PA. Every employee is so respectful and pleasing in reality not in the shadows! They only say what is possible and what they can do, not like other dealers in the market. They are true from every corner of what they offer and promise! Just bought a car from John L. Smith. I had taken my prior vehicle to them for service, having heard of them from a friend that works there. When it came time, sadly, to replace my car I decided to try John L. Smith first. So glad I did. They were patient and explained everything I needed to know and got me great financing. Theyll be servicing this car as well. So glad my friend told me about this place. It says a lot when someone is proud enough about where they work to recommend it to people in their personal life.

A few months back I was shopping for a car. Found a Sonata I really loved from another dealer. All prepared to buy, about to head to the dealer but I decided to see if there was a better deal anywhere. Then I found a vehicle a year newer, with less miles, for a grand less at John Smith and I was shook. Since then, every little problem Ive had along the way, the service at John Smith has handled it fast, and with no BS. Straight forward pricing and laymens terms with the auto jargon.Last week I totaled that same car. Hit a deer. I kid you not I called the guys at John Smith the next day because I only wanted to work with them again. A week later and Im back in another car, simple as that. They feel like family, in just a few simple interactions. I can ask any question without the fear of scrutiny (unless I really deserve it), and I always leave with peace of mind.Never going anywhere else.

SERVICE CENTER:Edited because my experience had changed. Service center is terrible. Got a tire replaced and balanced. 2 weeks later the alignment went out (if it was every really correctly aligned in the first place) and the inner tread of my tire went down fast. This was disappointing that a brand new tire went bad THAT fast but I decided to give John L Smith a second chance. I make an appointment for 9am and tell the guy that I will sit and wait for my car to be ready since I needed it for work, hence the appointment being made. Get there at 9am, 9:45 rolls by and my car is still not on the lift or getting worked on. Why did I make an appointment if my car is going to sit there for 45 minutes. If you arent available to take my car dont schedule my appointment for that time? Overall, the repair and maintenance work is very spotty and their scheduling and organization is sub par. Would not recommend their service center.

I went in not knowing a whole lot about what I wanted in a car, I had a few models picked out from looking on the site, but sitting down and discussing what I was looking at with Jeff as well as his suggestions about some cars I had not researched, I came away with a new car, less miles, and a very affordable monthly payment. The past 2 cars Ive gotten were from here. the first one was a Sentra that i had to bring back for service in about a week when the engine service light came on. Then when i brought it back for an oil change and they forgot to put the cap back on the engine block, the next morning i found my entire engine doused in oil after i popped the hood because the air coming from the heater smelled funny, after this i never went back here for service.then after hitting a deer and was in need of a new car. and got a Infiniti G37x, with 104,000 i had it for all of 6 months and the engine and transmission seized.I only maintained this car perfectly and got all my oil changes on time.and now i will never go back to this sales department.

Being that I had experienced financial struggles in the past year or so, I was doubtful that I would be able to get into anything. Ive been using John L Smith as my auto mechanic for years. They are honest with extremely fair pricing both on their maintenance services and on their cars. If they dont have the car you want, they can find what you want and youll pay considerably less than you would at a dealership. If youre picky about your auto maintenance and you want to use specific parts or accessories, they will accommodate you - fantastic customer service.

Dont go to the john l smith dealership if you dont want to be ripped off and taken advantage of bought a kia forte from them and as soon as i drove it off the lot it started giving me problems and the check engine light came on so i took it back and told them about the issue and they started trying to say it was not that bad of a problem never fixing anything or even looking at the car to see what was wrong then i was getting harrassing calls from anthony at the bank claming that i missed payments which all calls was all recorded on my phone then after i went down to try and fix all the problem they were disrespectful and could not be straight with me about anything this company needs to be shut down and the Better Business Bureau needs to see how their operation runs

Purchased my Mazda from them and had a real good experience. The guys in the service department have always been good to me, as well. Never felt like I was getting ripped off.
