I drive all the way from Boone just to get their amazingly fresh Salad Bar, great variety of soups like my favorite Chicken Tortilla, and delicious desserts!! Outside of having super fresh veggies to build your own salad from, we also love the different pasta salads, potato salad, and coleslaw, all made fresh! Of course no meal is complete without a dessert like chocolate chip cannoli or tiramisu, they even have vegan desserts if you want that sort of thing. We stock up a few soups and salads and keep them in the fridge for longer than youd think, sometimes. They even accept EBT as long as its cold foods, nothing hot.**TIP** Put your salad dressings in the 1 oz cups with lids, instead of on your salad, and they wont weigh your salad down, since the price is per pound!!**

This store is great. I only have one complaint and that is the price of items. Its so high. I didnt even get one full bag of groceries and my total was $63. I think I had 7 items. But, the products are amazing. You can find almost any health-type item here that youre in need of. I highly recommend checking them out if youre on a clean diet or if you need hard to find ingredients.

Great variety for vegans, but Ive seen some less than fresh peppers in the produce section before that could be improved upon.

I dont visit Whole Foods alot because they have higher prices. That is the reason for 3 Stars.The food I have bought their is great.They are an Amazon return drop off site, so that is usually why I am there. I do always find some things on sale to buy though. I will splurge sometimes on buying some really good meat or their croissant bread.

I have had excellent vegan options at other Whole Foods locations which is why I’m confused the West DesMoines Whole Foods location is so lacking with their vegan options: They do the SAME hot dishes over and over, zero creativity or variety, their vegan pizza and vegan Mac and cheese is always dried crusty. You’d think salads would be the easiest to make vegan, but check this, they have a salad with vegan Mayo and bacon - lol, who does that even appeal to? Other WF locations have had filled vegan donuts and when I asked about this and other vegan items the workers (who are very nice) say their hands are tied, “that’s just what they send us”… and we add different frosting flavors to the same donut base… (Is this management? Idk) I have gotten better salads at Campbell’s Nutrition, but really miss the love that chefs from others WF have put into making delicious vegan options. There is zero to look forward to here with zero rotation of vegan food, and the freshness is lacking most of the time.I have made several questions and requests at the W.DM WF location, and nothing has changed, so I’ll leave two stars and that is only for the workers, the vegan options only get one. This location can do much better especially located in/ near the capital city. :/ these locations and especially as a Whole Foods who self-claims to be “eco-minded” & makes money off of folks eating vegan for a better world has a greater responsibility to be better role models, but IMO are doing barely the minimum.

First time in this location. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Everything screams Organic here!! All that you see is fresh and feels like just out of farm. The best thing I like about this place is that I haven’t seen perishable goods get spoiled soon. They are so fresh that even if you keep them for a week, they still stay as fresh as when they were brought. Their packaging is very good. Though a little pricier compared to all other supermarkets, you can be assured that they are worth it. I personally feel they could run some discounts here and there for regulars and that might help in buying more and gradually help buying other stuff that are bought economically from other similar stores.

This is a pretty good Whole Foods! Just visiting from out of town and had to stop here to get some specialty items for my visit. Their produce was looking crisp and vibrant! I wanted to buy everything. The avocados I got ripened perfectly and tasted amazing. I was able to find everything I needed and more. Their fresh bakery had my favorite ciabatta bread and the women behind the counter was very nice and accommodating to getting the bread cut. The bathroom was fairly clean too! I knocked off a star because the gentleman who checked us out was really not that friendly.

LOVE that Whole Foods is an AMAZON RETURNS DROP OFF SITE/LOCATION!!! SO CONVENIENT, Dont even need to repackage your returns!!

Nothing is organized by vegan/gluten free/specialty diets. You are like a needle in a haystack trying to find your food here. Overpriced a bit but the BEST lettuce Ive ever had. Windy City lettuce... So so good.

I love this store! It is very healthy and environmentally conscious. The employees are very kind and helpful as well. I love to shop here for pills or tasty snacks!

The cake was old and stored for several day. We get our cake for a birthday and it was not looking or smelling good. We decided to have it anyway and after a while everyone was not feeling good. Obviously it was not freshly made. Do not get any cake from them at all.

They carry the best tasting organic eggs!

1st time that we have visited Whole Foods. We have passed the place probably 50 times in the past 9 years. This past year due to health reasons we wanted to change ou diet and eat much healthier. I was looking for specific items and To my surprise they have every one of them in stock. The store was extremely clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Its been quite a while since Ive been to Whole Foods, until this last visit. And at that point, I really didnt have much purpose in going there. The foods I ate were readily available, and mostly cheaper, at the grocery stores closer to me. But my diet changed last summer, to be vegan and gluten free. There are more vegan food options available at Whole Foods than at the HyVee in Indianola. (although HyVee is getting more things regularly)But as someone who has a restrictive diet, I just wish manufacturers and stores would do a better job of labeling, and organizing foods for people whither special diets. But that has applied to everywhere Ive shopped, thus far...To be honest, I have only been there once lately. But I found out about Fresh Thyme, which is just down the street, and went there and loved it! I will most likely go back to Whole Foods, but at this time, its not my go-to grocery store on the West side...

Went for the bakery but it wasnt the best. Pricey, but not memorable

I used to love coming to Whole Foods. But I can’t any longer. I came at 7:45 during high risk hours and was turned away cause I was not a “senior”. They are not just senior hours and I’ve been other times and was not turned away. I told the manager about it and he shrugged it off. I called customer service and they said I should explain that I’m high risk. I don’t need to explain anything. It’s my health. They just assume I’m a young woman so I can’t be high risk. Was fun shopping here I guess.

I think the choice and quality of food at Whole Foods is usually five star, BUT I feel that overall the pricing is high and therefor only three stars. I, therefore, give it only four stars overall. Prior to COVID Whole Foods had a great buffet in the store, with places to sit to eat right away, or packaging available for take out if preferred. Last time I was in the store it was still closed. However, the do have a made to order sandwich and pizza area open for business. As well as a cheese market with precut or cut to taste options and a bakery with great breads, cakes, and cookies. I love all of these services. However, the buffet food, when it was open, sold by total weight and I believe it was really high priced for what it was. Although we enjoyed the convenience and variety of food items, we felt the need to take very small portions of food. The breads and bakery items, including specialty, very fancy cakes and cupcakes are delicious. COVID has also shut down their free samples, which I miss because I could try out things I might not usually purchase. I also love being able to order pizza by the slice, and the slices are huge! I was thrilled when Whole Foods came to town, and Im still happy about it! Id guess that we shop there a couple of times a months on average.

Great variety of organic produce. They have an amazing variety of organic canned and dry goods. You can find about anything you could want in vegetarian and vegan. They are very conscientious in choosing the items that they carry to make sure they are sourced with the farmers in mind and your health in mind.

I bought a bunch of frozen pizzas from the 365 brand through Amazon. Margherita..terrible. Four cheese...not good at all even for two bucks. Pizza vita, cheese...even worse. I will not be shopping here any longer. These frozen pizzas were shameful. We literally threw six or seven in the trash. Go for take out!!

This is not where I purchase many groceries. I visit when I need certain items. They usually have great deals on cut flowers. I dont care for the bank style queueing.One thing you can count on is friendly service.

Fair prices, I thought this place was expensive but the selection of healthy food is way better than most grocery stores. Some things are expensive but you can shop here cheap.

They finally deliver!This has been an amazing change and probably due to covid. I would not recommend buying produce online as what weve had delivered has been pretty terrible. As expected, non-produce items are fine. Unfortunately, this results in still having to go to the store to hand pick fresh food, boy that almost seems unavoidable.They are generally very expensive, but some of their Organic items are competitive with their pricing.I really enjoy their deli and fresh cheese. They generally have a day off the week when those items are on sale.If paired with Amazon prime account, they do have some good deals.

Amazing and clean! 1st time ever and I was impressed

I used to love Whole Foods but after going this week and having a poor selection, I’m not sure I’ll be back. I got home and my raspberries were all molded, the kale was all wilted and not fresh what so ever. I didn’t have a choice on what to get because they were so picked over. For as expensive as this place is, I was disappointed to get gone and not enjoy any of my “fresh” fruits and vegetables.

Plainly I will never make a two hour trip again to be lied to by staff, also there rude and inconsiderate I understand people are afraid but you dont have to be rude about it

I am writing this review because I am not sure whether I got a racial treatment when I was purchasing the fish. I was trying to point which pieces of fish that I would like to buy. I got a little bit closer for pointing, then I was get a warning from the big saleswoman. I have shopped in WF for years since it opened years ago, and I have purchase fish hundred of times if not thousand. I have pointed which pieces to buy many times. I know Covid-19 makes people nervous. But at least she must observe I, just like others, all stood next to the counter for fish. The person who was serving me did not say anything. I did not know why that big woman had to say something. I wont buy any fish if that woman is the salesperson, period.I have never seen other salespersons acting that way in my whole shopping experience at WF.

Produce not that fresh & far more concerned about policing and harassing healthy small children about face masks. As if it’s not enough to have adults comply with their mandate in order to spend their money on food, they now force parents to force their very small children to wear one as well. There is no law or mandate, definitely no science or POSITIVE benefit behind muzzling a small healthy child....just Whole Foods, with snarky staff at every corner pouncing on children to force their compliance of something they don’t understand to cover their noses and mouths. Pathetic.

I have been shopping at whole foods for years with very pleasant experiences. However, this particular store was a huge disappointment for me. The staff was abrupt, to the point of being rude, the bakery in particular. I will not visit this location again.

I absolutely love Whole Foods, it is well worth the price. The location is excellent, the store and grounds are clean and safe. The employees are all very helpful. The produce, meat and bakery are amazing. The atmosphere is great! The foods here are so healthy that you even feel better by eating them. If your skeptical, give it a try because you will not be disappointed.

Always a great experience. A bit more expensive in places than other stores, but they were requiring and enforcing masks upon entry, santizing carts, and had well set distancing markings throughout the store.

Some good foods here but I never am able to do all of my shopping here. I usually have to find things they don’t have elsewhere. Fruit and veggies are usually good. Better than many places around. Still a consistent stop for me for good meats and food with low additives (depending on what you buy).

This is a great place to shop if you are allergic to food dyes which can be found in some packaged foods. We like purchasing their un-processed pork, e.g., no sodium solution put in the meat.

I will never step foot in whole foods again. They had only 1 cash register open and the line was all the way around the back of the store it wouldve took me hours to get checked out its ridiculous and on top of that they make it mandatory for everyone to wear masks during Corona which isnt fair because first of all I have a health condition and then they wanna refuse service to me!! They shouldnt make it mandatory anyway for everyone to wear a mask. I hate whole foods you should shop at natural grocers or fresh thyme instead. Also their management at this location are very rude & mean.

You pay premium price for the right ideas about whole foods and organic products etc.But I didnt realize that you also had to pay another premium if you werent a member of Amazon prime.Its disappointing that you have to have a membership with someplace and yearly fee, in order to do right by your family and their health.

OMG where do I start. My long time goal in life is to recreate every meal eaten in the hit PBS television show Dowton Abbey. Thats all I will say about that. DREAMS DO COME TRUE!

I used to like whole foods because I can buy row food with my reusibl bags and get plastic free grocery but now they dont even offer paper bags in their row section! Its all plastic even though the studies show that using reusibl bags is safe during Covid-19. I prever Hy-Vee now cuz at least they offer paper bags.

I love a clean, caring, and mask wearing store. I felt safe.

As a vegan Im really grateful to have this place around. Theres a great selection of veggie meats and fresh produce. When they first opened, they had tons of fresh vegan options available, including wraps, sandwiches, and pizza. Now the fresh vegan options are far less plentiful, which is unfortunate. Regardless, its still a great place to find Beyond Meat, Gardein, and produce, and the staff is consistently helpful and friendly.

They always have a huge line that goes the length of the store. They have failed to realize the other grocery establishments around this area are leaps and bounds above Whole Foods in this area. And I wish I didnt have to say that. I love Whole Foods but its true. Take example from Walmart, hy-vee, price chopper, aldi, fareway etc..

Great place to do all your shopping, and know its really benefitting the community, and maybe the world. Everything from cruelty-free lotions to free-range chicken, tons of dairy-free (and delicious) yogurt varieties, local wines, a great deli and an even better bakery. And different options for lunch to enjoy right in the store. They even offer a lot of pet food and treats for your feline or canine friends. Very friendly and helpful staff. A place where I always leave with slightly more than what was on my list - and thats a good thing!

Ive been to a lot of whole foods from the East Coast to the West Coast and this is the best one I have been to. Very good selection and organised well.

There is a lot of weird stuff here. But it is all good. I,go here and buy weird spices and drinks and so far they have been interesting and refreshing. I would definitely recommend this place if you where looking to shop for something different.

The food selection is OK but I just cant get over the pricing. How can everything be twice as much as Fresh Time or Trader Joes. The pizza by the slice is a decent value as is the sushi. If you are looking for a good wine or unusual cheese this is a great place to get it. Hoping Amazons influence reduces prices going forward.

I dont come here for all of my groceries as some things are pretty expensive but I do really enjoy all of the health options and the selection of gluten free and vegan items. Some of the groceries I buy I can only find at this store. I also really like the 365 brand as its pretty affordable and the fresh ground nut butters. I dont typically buy a lot of produce here izat tends to be a bit more expensive compared to other grocery stores that stock organic produce.

The buffet is spotty. Taste before you pay. Its usually pretty good, but I have gotten some really bad food, and at those prices, its better to know before you buy.

I like to purchase organic and grass fed options. And Wild Caught seafood. Most of the other grocerers offer some to none in these options. Also nice produce area... Very Friendly Staff.
