This store has a surprisingly robust paint and hardware selection for the size. The home and garden center is equally big. Theres a lot of good stuff crammed into this tiny store but it doesnt feel cramped. Its a great place for practical gift shopping or picking up essentials. And if you do need something specific, the staff is very helpful and can happily have things ordered. An all around nice place.
I have been using Breed and Company since 2010. The place is a treasure! They have all kinds of things that are hard to get and things that you readily need. They have everything from high end dinnerware to toilet plungers to succulents and high quality cheeses and truffles. I live close by so I have the extra added advantage of it being walking distance. It’s such a great place I love it. And the people that work there go above and beyond to help you. Can’t say enough good things about this place.
Went to have remote fobs for my car programmed, and have keys cut for the car. The gentleman who helped me was very courteous and efficient. Since I provided the fobs and blank keys, I was only charged for labor. It cost $20.00 plus tax total for 2 fobs and 2 keys. Absolutely great service and value!
Breed is where I go when I have questions about anything hardware, construction, or home improvement orientated. They always have what I need, but you have to ask. In addition to being a great full service hardware store, the other half of the building is devoted to high end gifts and gardening.
Great prices and always clean and stocked. Some of the young cashiers need to work on their customers service with everyone that comes to spend $ here! Treat everyone the same! Everyone especially people of color, our money is also green! The reason Im bringing this up is because a couple of weeks back a young Caucasian female cashier was sweet and polite with a customer ahead of me (also Caucasian) when I came up to pay for my items her smile and politeness just disappeared. No how are you today and thank you.Nothing like that, she asked is this all and handed me change and didnt say anything else! Made me feel like not going there anymore!!!I really hope that they read this and fix it or I will take my money somewhere else!
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐6/5 stars! If you know Breed & Company, a six out of five star rating makes perfect sense. From the welcome greetings and genuine offers to help to the unmatchable selection of...just about anything hardware store and then some(think awesome, hero making gift ideas), nobody comes close. This is where you come for that one missing piece that will complete your current project the way you want, not just what the BigBoxBrosDepot serve up. Breeds is not even more pricey. I went to above-mentioned and a couple Auto parts houses in search of some grade 8 socket head cap screws and only Breeds had what I was looking for. And Im not talking about something that will work, Im talking about exactly what I had in mind and it was cheaper than the big boxes, and I could buy just one if I wanted to, not a package of two, or three so you understand what Im saying:TRADE HERE!
I went in to buy paint for a home renovation. I was dealing with Jeff in the paint dept. While chatting with him a bit about different paint options he mentioned that he used to be in the photography world and could see the differences in color. I mentioned that my father was a master cabinet builder and could spot a piece of trim in a room that was a quarter of an inch off. We had a laugh and continued to complete the transaction As simple as that seems, it was a great experience. I lost my father a year ago and by mentioning his sharp attention to detail, Jeff understood the beauty of being meticulous. Jeff was so pleasantand helped me land on exactly the right shade of white. There are thousands of different white options and he nailed it today. Thank you Jeff.
This store is a favorite of mine. Half hardware store, half boutique shop, and half kitchen supply store, it is a fun place to peruse! In one half, it is fully equipped with all the hardware essentials, making it a fully functioning hardware store with helpful staff members. In the other half, home decor and kitchen supplies fill the store with cute and tempting buys. Just as good for plumbing repair as it is for holiday gifts. Also sells high-quality Case knives!
Definitely one of those old school hardware stores where you can find that 1 thing you cant find anywhere else. And a friendly and knowledgeable staff, that are almost worth going in for just to shoot the s*it with.
Phill was awesome, got me all the stuff for my DIY project. Plus helped me modify stuff. Prices were the same as Amazon.
An upscale Ace Hardware, good help, lots of household items with standard hardware items
Nice hardware store.Highly recommend it.
We had a horrible customer service experience like many others have mentioned. The store is great but the customer service is terrible. Ours is specifically with the employee Eduardo. We asked him how his day was at check out and he went on a long talk about how horrible working retail in the holidays is. I was purchasing six mugs that were wrapped up for me and I asked to look at one of the mugs to make sure they were the ones I wanted and he gave me serious attitude. It was a gift and I wanted to make sure it was right. I then wanted to buy a Fir dish soap which he told me was not on holiday discount (I had been in the store 2 days prior and was given the holiday discount on the exact same item without even asking). When we had purchased all of our items we said “when we were here 2 days ago they gave us a student discount...can we use it again?” my husband showed his ID which is for MIT and we were told sorry it’s only for UT students. I have never seen a student discount specific to one school?? He said “I’ll be sure to tell my manager that this does not count”He was just so rude and condescending. It’s unfortunate so many people have issues with the employees because it is a nice store. I have never been treated so poorly by an employee as Eduardo treated us today.
Its fine and was handy for what I needed. Its really a retail type gift/ hardwear store.
A great old style hardware store where they have everything you need.
I purchased a wooden picnic table from Breed, and when I unpacked all the parts to put it together, the table wasn’t lined up properly so we’ll have to use a circular saw to even out the ends. Also, the one of the wood seats had a chunk out of it, which I’ll have to fill with wood putty.I don’t have a problem with Breed per se, but I’m disappointed they gave me such a subpar product—perhaps they aren’t aware that this product isn’t manufactured well, they’ll see this and look into other resources.
Little gem of a hardware store with a lot of hard to find items. Cant believe I never knew it was here. Will absolutely be visiting this place in the future
Great store and friendly helpful staff.
Its like Lowes but wayyyy cheaper and better
That is a review for their dumb looking personnel who chat among themselves in a blinded space in the store and they look like gangsta members of the block when you ask them a question about the location or availability of an item. Man, if you dont like it working there, get out! You piece of ...
Very friendly staff, very well organized, a little on the priceier side for tools and hardware.
Such a unique shopping experience and definitely an enjoyable experience for girlfriends shopping together, especially for housewarming or wedding gifts.
This is a good ole hidden Hardware Store ! Bring the wife plenty of Goodies for her too!!
I love this place. its like a boutique hardware/general store with anything you could want. The folks who work here are so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I especially love coming here for seasonal items like grill accessories and holiday decorations.
Great, and friendly customer service.
I went in today to find some obscure finishing tacks, and not only did they have a large selection of them, but Robin in the hardware department spent lots of time with me, advising me on what might be the best choice for the job, (I was making an oil painting panel.) She even offered advice on creating painting panels because she used to work in an art supply shop! Only spent $2 and I was treated with incredible kindness and care by Robin and everyone else that works there. Thats the way it should be in every store, but these days its not often you receive this level of care in a shopping situation. I SO appreciate this store, and especially the amazing people that work there! Thank you Breed and Co! :)
Very convenient downtown Hyde Park area. They got what youre looking for.Very helpful staff.
For decades, Breed & Co has been my go-to place for quality merchandise and solid advice. Today, though, I see we’ve gone to a store full of nervous youngsters continually speaking furtively into their tiny black walkies as they rush by, ignoring customers. What are they talking about, and why is it all so urgent? Is an Apple Store Breed’s new model? Hardware to these clerks is over-priced chocolates and crystal vases (pronounced vozzes). None of them would know the difference between a rain gauge and coffee filters, neither of which were in stock. New management, please.
Ace hardware practices in bad faith. Sold me a product at a discount online, emailed me to pick up and then refused to release the actual item when I showed to pick up curbside. Stated that it was a glitch in their promo codes and item should have been excluded. News flash -- you sold the item, honor it. Also note -- ACE is a huge corporation and it was a $5 discount on the item, it wouldnt have put them in bankruptcy and probably worth customer loyalty and satisfaction. Given the significant inconvenience, I would never shop at ACE for future purchases and will definitely share my experience with others.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great neighborhood location. Parking. Shopped here for 30 years!
Great place to shop always very helpful!
Good thing Breed exists--Id never find the stuff I need for my home. Home Depot is a nightmare but sometimes you need a little neighborhood place with real employees on the floor like Breed.
Youre going to go again and Im going to go again because of where it is
Breed & Company is great! I get all my Traeger accessories and pellets from them. They are always stocked, and if not you can order online via Ace and curbside or delivery is available. Awesome place for tools and home improvement projects!Awesome staff!
Actual hardware store, great selection of items.
ACE HARDWAREI dont know why your name doesnt reflect this is an Ace hardware...
Love this place. Terrific for small hardware.
Very friendly and helpful staff! Thank you!
This sweet shop is like a garden boutique!❤ Beautiful selection of pottery plants and delightful items for your entire home! The staff rocks!🥰 Very kind and knowledgeable. True Austin TX experience!😘
Ace Hardware over all others. They carry metric fasteners as well. A concept too difficult for other hardware stores (looking at you home depot) to comprehend.
Nice little hardware store if you need the basics. A little more expensive than home Depot but the down home service cant be beat.
Great service.
The best place to spend all your monies!!
Great service
Quaint hardware store, refreshing from the larger corporate depot or Lowes.
After going to home Depot Lowes I got the answers I needed from from this amazing place from people that really care I will continue to go and do more shopping there!
It was the best locally known stores in Austin, and its been around for over 45 years, and under new family ownership since 2015. Locals love come to shop from assorted sweet confections, chainsaws, Baccarat crystal, to indoor plants and potting soil. Its the one of the most unique Ace Hardware retailer, housewares, bridal, and garden store. There are four in the Austin area.
29th streets flower and power tool shop.
Great place that has all the hardware other places dont stock. If you need hard to find hardware come here! Friendly helpful staff as well!
Very friendly service. They are helpful & well organized. Also much smaller that the big boss stores which means less time getting lost. Or looking for help theyre just right at the counter
This is the nicest ace hardware Ive ever been in. Slightly overwhelming.
Quaint old fashion hardware store with friendly helpful staff. It was my first time shopping there but I cant wait to visit again and check out the other half of the store.
Always helpful and it is surprising how many items they carry. The people in the hardware department are way more knowledgeable and helpful than what youll find in a big box store. They are also very competitive with their prices. Come here first, you wont be let down.
This place has the best assortment of fittings, bolts and misc items. I needed a moon key for an small engine and they had it. Great place. FREE coffee gotta love that
They didnt have what I needed, but the Salesman was willing to discuss alternatives to the tool I needed and referred me to another store. Very helpful!
Ace hardware and also a great place for gifts and other cool items! Great spot for decor and holiday items as well!! Great people, too! Very helpful nice and knowledgeable
These guys can fix anything..old school hardware store..better than you tube video
Normally a five star experience, but it ranked a bit lower this time because the garden center inventory was less than a quarter of what is usually available. Few plants.
Find what I needed to buy so glad they had it there
For a place that is not too large, they always seem to have the tool/fitting that I need.
This is kind of random but whenever I need spare keys cut, I go here. They are so reliable, I never have to worry about getting a key thats too sloppily cut to work in the lock. And they have the nicest, most knowledgeable employees!
I love this place, you can get almost anything here. From tools to Fine China. Great place for a wedding registry because he can go to the hardware store and you can pick out home decor all in one stop. So close to UT you can walk. And the service is amazing!
Excellent customer service from beginning to end
The most reliable place for a few tools / hardware stuffs here and there. Easy access from campus and friendly staff who know a lot. Always leave this place happy thanks
Great little neighborhood hardware store. Nice selection.
Austin native here. Been frequenting Breed since I was 3 years old and they have helped me with SO many home improvement projects over the years and I have bought an insane number of cards, chocolates, Christmas/birthday presents here. Nothing but good experiences!
First time here and Great place and friendly employees. Theyll take the time to help you and get to know you, great selection of tools. Just like in the good old days of a neighborhood store. Thumbs up guys!
Great store, wonderful variety of products, and friendly staff. Fun to browse and shop.
Best. Hardware Store. Ever! I love this place. When you enter, the left is the hardware, and right is home goods. I can bring my sweetheart here, and she can go right, Ill go left. We both meet at the register, and our home is improved!! They carry mostly everything you could want. And if they dont have it, they know where to get it.Super awesome service. Great selection. This is my go-to hardware store.
A hardware store that is there to help. High end home decor is fabulous. Chocolatier is divine. If youve never been you this upscale, down to earth home improvement store, you havent been to Austin.
I love this store. They have great gift ideas for weddings, bridal showers and house warming parties. The staff is helpful and friendly.
I guess that I should say, more accurately, that my wife loved it. Having collected numerous place settings throughout her life she thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected displays of fine China offered at this Austin hardware store of all places!
If you need a niche repair item & dont want to buy it online, this store will probably have what you need.
This is definitely the best local hardware store in Austin, and one of the best in Texas. They are consistently friendly, they greet customers when they walk in, and they always have what you need that is of good quality, practical use, and reasonable price. They also are well stocked, well organized, and they always have very high customer traffic. If they ask if you need help and you do, they are willing to help you every step of the way, and if they ask if you need help and you dont, they dont bother you, they dont watch you, and they dont follow you around. All in all, whatever you need, from novelty to practical, and from hardware/housewares to gardening/gifts, Breed & Co. is the place to go!
One of my favorite hardware/home decor stores. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and almost always find what I need and usually leave with a couple things I want. Definitely recommend.
This is only the second or third time that I have given a 5 star rating. Breed & Company deserves it without a doubt. The staff is extremely competent and knowledgeable and the customer service is exceptional. About 95% of the time the price is almost the same as the big box stores, so price is not really a factor.
Nice place You can find a bit of everything. Great customer service
This is such a great place... workers go out of their way to help you in the store.. and always so clean
Nice little neighborhood hardware store. Its got all the tools/parts/equipment you could want and a helpful staff
I feel like a kid in a candy store in this place. I can always find things for any project, without buying 24 if I only want 2. Its like an old-time hardware store with helpful people and everything you need.
I loved this place they have Everything and there staff was super knowledgeable of all there products. I highly recommend them.
An associate followed us around and repeatedly asked if we needed help in a manner that suggested we were going to steal something. She also watched and stared at us throughout our visit. The store was awesome though.
Kind of a strange eclectic mix of wares for sale here. Regular hardware items, expensive dishes, candy, gardening. Just a fun place to go shopping. Friendly, knowledgeable staff to assist you if youre having trouble finding something or have questions.
Great little one-of-a-kind spot. Attentive employees and more knowledge than you get at the big box stores. At the same time there are space limitations and its not necessarily the place you go when youre about to remodel the back half. However they do have one feature that no one else has, AKA they paint match exactly. When you get paid here and you ask for a match it actually matches. No one else in town can do this as far as I know.
Very good store this store is always very helpful I have never had a problem with staff there always willing to help and if you have a problem with a job you are doing they will go above and beyond try to help you figure it out
They may be a bit pricier than Home Depot it Lowes but if you need a hard to find part to fix or make something, the employees know there sh## and will help you. They have way more stock of items than the big box stores
I love that Breed and Co is close to my house, very convenient. They always have quality products and decent pricing. It is a bit crowded at the Westlake store, but not too bad. If you are looking for a nice gift, this is the place to go. I always go after any holiday as they have their holiday items on sale with great discounts. Occasionally I run into a snobby salesperson/cashier, but for the most part they are very helpful and friendly.
This place is great. Always good to buy local.
Super convenient hardware store for west campus, Phill was super nice and incredibly helpful, he really went the extra mile to help me out and gave me an even better solution than what I had in mind even though it was a few minutes before closing on the weekend
They have the best sun glasses and un prescribed glasses
I love this place for various reasons. The selection of merchandise in this store is astounding. The employees are always helpful and know where to find what you are looking for. They are also so customer friendly here.
Breed is both a great small hardware store and home goods store. They have a surprising large selection stuffed into the store and a helpful staff. Ive gone here for random hardware supply like electrical cord, nuts, bolts, and the like but they also have services like key duplication. I even got a $20 duplicate for a chipped Honda Accord key that would have cost $100 at the dealership. Breed also has a weekly knife sharpening service - I couldnt believe what an improvement a sharpening was for my kitchen knives and a lot cheaper than buying new knives! Theres a bunch of other home goods here that I havent really even explored but I would check here first before heading out on the highway.
I would love to rate breed and company on 29th Street higher, because it is an exceptional store. However, my most recent experience there left much to be desired. let me start by saying Im a 6ft tall 270 lb 40 year old bearded man. Its rare that I get attitude thrown my way. However I was having problems finding the wheelbarrow I wanted to purchase so I asked the young lady in lawn and garden to help me. We checked every inch of that store to no avail. Then she asked an older gentleman if he knew where it was. His condescending attitude toward her infuriated me but I said nothing. We moved on to another older gentleman who worked there and ask the same question. Yet again his condescending attitude toward the young womans question was wholly unacceptable.
Horrible! Website said they had terrace board in stock, and didnt. Asked sales clerk and she was rude and unhelpful. Said I have to order, she could not. Drove 30 minutes to this store for this. I wont ever go there again. This place sucks.
Great place the staff is very helpful and the place is well stocked
If you have questions and want help figuring out what to get, Breed & Company is the place to go. They have the basics as well as more offbeat items; also things a homeowner or renter from the University might want. An ACE hardware store, they can get just about anything you need.I live in South Austin, but often come here rather than Lowes or Home Depot because of the service and home-town feel.
One of my favorite home goods and nursery places to shop in central Austin.
Old school hardware store, You will be greeted when you walked in, and an employee will always ask you if you need help finding anything to complete your project. I can only wish major department stores (cough, home depot) were as friendly and helpful. Thanks guys!!
